[Q]What to do before warranty - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I've been having problems with my phone. (touch screen problems) and I need to know what I have to do before I send my phone to a bell store. My phone is unlocked and rooted. So does that mean I have to re-lock my phone and unroot? What are the steps to doing that? Thanks for all the help.

Which method did you use to root?...

Bootloader relock?

Hi I have a attic that has a data problem and am going to return it to warranty, I want to try out 2.3.4 but you need to unlocked the bootloader, but is there a way to relock it so I can still have it under warranty. Also I have been trying to flash the 1.26 SBF file from www.bandinnovations.com and everytime I try to unzip it says broken something or other. Is there another link to try? Thanks

Look for 1.26 in the dev section
They probably won't even check. I warranted mine yesterday because my fingerprint scanner was peeling. I was rooted with gingerblur, and couldn't even do a factory reset, so I had to go into Android Recovery and wipe data from there, but the rep didn't even ask what I was doing, or anything. DSCs (Device Support Centers) are usually franchise stores; in other words, they don't really care too much, just there for their $8/hr.

No way to relock after unlocking the bootloader. It's a hardware lock/unlock, not software.
It may be spotted at AT&T store or service center. If they turn the phone on the first thing they will see is "unlocked" in the upper left corner. Per what it says when you unlock your phone, this "MAY" void your warranty. Don't listen to advice saying they won't care at the service center. The one where I live does everything they can to get your phone back working before replacing it. Been there a couple of times.
You can remove the "unlocked" in the boot screen by flashing back to 4.1.26, 4.1.57, etc., but the phone is still unlocked, it just won't say unlocked anymore unless you reflash the unlock, after which it will be on the boot screen again.
I would say if you are returning it, don't unlock the bootloader.

Need to return phone, how to unroot please!

My hardware broke (my touch screen is very glitchy and the "p" section of my screen doesnt work), I am going to return it for a new one, but my phone still has the "Unlocked" on the boot image and is still rooted. How to do I go back to stock without bricking my phone? I used Fruitcake, but it still seams to be rooted and well as the Unlocked message is still there. As well as how can I take out the "Unlocked" message from the boot logo? Thanks!
-I used Pudding to unlock my bootloader, and used gingerbreak to root.
Fruitcake to 1.83 then to 2.3.4 is what I think does it. Download root uninstaller from the market

When you say to 2.3.4 is that the fruitcake one aswell or OTA???
I was trying to find something on this as well with no luck.
I think he meant to install 1.8.3 and then do over the air update to 2.3.4 which I think I tried and it failed

Yep I did the same thing. I tried the OTA and it didnt work. I got to it halfway loading then it stopped with a read "!" I thought I bricked at first I was able to flash CMW though. I honestly dont see how flashing 1.8.3 fruitcake then flashing 2.3.4 fruitcake will take it back to 100% stock. They are just Stocked ROMS
I think you can't remove "Unlocked" from your boot screen once you unlocked your phone. It is written in any tuto...
Well since you voided your warranty you could try telling the rep its a sim unlocked phone.
I voided my warranty.

I'll try that : / tried fixing my phone by cleaning it up and such, but from reading the forums seems like I will have to use my warranty.

Relock phone

I searched for this before but got nothing but unlock threads. I'm trying to search now but the search is down. I unlocked my phone using the app in the market and have to send it in for a warranty replacement. I was wondering how do I relock the phone?
Thanks.
Backup everything to your computer, then follow this guide and flash back to stock. Also backup, then wipe your sd card.

I already have it back to stock but from the reading I've done this still keeps the phone unlocked. Does this lock my phone or do I have to manually relock it?
Thanks.

Why are you trying to carrier lock your phone again? It's not like Samsung/T-Mobile is going to care.

No need to re lock. Tmo will give you unlock codes if you ask. Sim unlocking will not be an issue

Root does not equal unlocked bootloader. Read the important information in every thread before you attempt to use what they post. Else, you wind up looking like an idiot, like you do now. Now if you want to do nandroid, follow the link in the post above and unlock your bootloader.

Can I unlock my bootloader, after my phone was rooted ? Or should I unroot it, unlock the bootloader and than root it again ?
Rooting your phone, and unlocking bootloader are 2 different things.
Rooting is for your ROM, while unlocking bootloader is for your phone...

You can't. Also, what's with the two Qs in the thread title?
Is it not possible to put it back in its original state?
I have the original Orange 1.8gb sbf, can't it be done with this? I thought this would return it to its stock unrooted, unblocked state.

If you flash a stock ROM (such as an SBF) that has the stock bootloader included the text will be gone and the bootloader will technically be locked. However, I'm pretty sure there's some sort of "fuse" inside that activates when the bootloader is unlocked. It will never revert to its original state.
This has discussed many times. The unlock bootloader actually burn the fuse permanently. If u flash a sbf, you will get the unlocked word removed, but technically the fuse still burned and can't revert back. Some call it software locked, hardware unlocked. Try search the thread about odm fuse. I did flash sbf to remove the unlock word in order to send it to motorola service centre to replace the digitizer. But flashing sbf might hard brick your phone.

Ok tnx for the answers, is it "safe" to flash a GB SBF, the only problem should come w/ FROYO FW right? Anyway it was just to make it appear locked, I know the fuse thing...
If you can, flash the latest version you can find. You will only hard brick your phone if you try to use RSD Lite to downgrade your phone.

Techinally its unlocked, but it may not work correctly with flashing Roms, kernels, etc. I have heard various reports of "unlocked" features not working correctly unless the unlock word is there.
I know it sounds fishy, but that's just what I've read on these boards over the last year.

This. Also, when he means "software locked, hardware unlocked", he means that the bootloader acts as if it was locked, but the fuse is still burned. It's unlocked, but you don't get any of the features that come from unlocking.

Got it from this link, it's not mine, it has the same md5 checksums as in the Atrix firmware superthread that were originally posted here on XDA.
