[Q] Lost root after flashing MIUI 1.9.9 - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
After I updated to MIUI 1.9.9 today, I lost root. This is my 5th or 6th MIUI update, and I've never had this issue before. I dl'd and flashed it thru ROM Manager. I discovered the problem when I installed Titanium in order to get all my apps/settings back. It gave be the "be sure your ROM has busybox" error message. Any thoughts on how to get back to root? I tried uninstalling Titanium and the Pro key, rebooting, then reinstalling Titanium with no luck. I didn't even get the "countdown" message where you have to allow Titanium root rights. Any help would be great!
Thanks

From MIUI.us
"UPDATE NOTICE: Superuser Permissions need to be enabled via Superuser.apk menu enable superuser Permissions. (Superuser is found in Tools folder)"
open SU, menu/settings/enable.

I don't know If this is different on every phone but on my Desire Z this app is not in the tools but on one of the home screens directly also you I had to kill titanium backup because it didn't try to acquire root again (I restarted the whole phone but I forgot that I could have kill it from application manager).

As i mentioned I lost root access after the update today. I am still able to use launcher pro but i can't use titanium backup or set cpu. On a side note i did notice that my superuser permissions app is no longer in the menu (the one with the ninja). I tried to redo the root but it can never find the update.zip. I tried rooting it manually and with One click root with no success. Its been awhile since I loaded Launcher pro, but doesn't that require root access. Any thoughts?

Q: is Titanium Backup working for you on the Flyer?

Hi,
my Flyer is S-OFF and rooted succesfully. But Titanium Backup is not able to get su-rights.
I see in the "Superuser" App that Titanium Backup is not listed there, but whenever I launch Titanium it is not asking for su-rights.
Any idea?
Try re-downloading Busybox.
This didnt help. Other apps that request "su" just work fine.
The problem is that TitaniumBackup just doesnt ask for "su" when I launch it, and it is not listed under su-apps in the "Superuser" application.
I had TitaniumBackup working when I had my Flyer term-rooted last week once, now as I have it S-OFF and perm-rooted TB just doesnt work anymore, as it is not asking SU permissions on launch anymore ?!
You can try upgrading Superuser inside TB. Press the "Problem?" button inside TB..
There is no such option anymore on the latest TB versions, as TB since then uses his own busybox. There is a option in "preferences" to disable this and use the Rom's busybox, but also checking that option did not help.
Is TB working on your Flyer?
The strange thing is that it worked fine when I had a temp root, and only now with perm root it is not asking for su-rights anymore...
I have the paid Pro version 3.8.9.2 and it still has the "Problems?" button. It works fine with my S-Off and rooted Flyer.
Mine is 3.9.1 (also paid), downloaded from the market.
Under problems it only has "See Wiki / Preferences / Upgrade Superuser".
Same here. Have you tried "Upgrade Superuser"?
Yes, that only shows up a link to the market, with "open" ...
I have the latest su installed. 2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip
That is also the su I have installed. No problem here with TB.
bah, I really dont get it then. All other apps that request "su" work fine on my flyer.
Only TB doesnt, as it doesnt ask for "su" rights on launch.
Damn!
Perhaps uninstall then re-install TB?

that's been the first thing that I tried
Also rebooted..
Nada worked.
I wrote to the TB developers now, hoping they can help.
Really puzzling! Goodluck!
do u have clockwork?
If so you may want to see if it works in a custom rom ... there are 3 out atm
Kris
It's work fine for me.
Stupid question, but you did run the Busybox Installer, and didn't just download it from the Market, right?
TB works fine for me, as well.
With the help of the Titanium Backup support staff i got my problem solved:
There was a old "su" in the directory "/data/bin". After deleting that "su" there, I ran TB again, and see: it asked for root permissions, I gave them and now TB works fine on my Flyer too!
This is how my Flyer is set up now:
Code:
Superuser.apk - com.noshufou.android.su - version 2.3.6.3 is installed!
Standard su binary location:
lrwxrwxrwx root root 2011-08-02 06:35 su -> /system/bin/su
Alternate su binary location:
/sbin/su: Permission denied
Finally with the help of TB support got it fixed !

SGS3 re-rooting problem

Hi all,
I've rooted my SGS3 via ODIN with CF-Root-SGS3-v6.3. Everything went good and I had root in seconds. One thing I've noticed that this method is installing SuperSU app instead of SuperUser (which I was using on Motorola Defy). It didn't make any difference for me, however after some time I discovered that not all applications works with SuperSU. For instance xMissedCallPatch for exDialer don't even ask for admin permissions. Permission access window from SuperSU just don't POP UP so I can't give that app a root permissions. There was some more examples but can't remeber which one. TitaniumBackup and few other works good.
And here comes the problem:
I wanted to change from SuperSU to SuperUser, so I've installed SuperUser from market, however that does not make him as default app to handle root requests. So... I went to SuperSU settings and clicked "Switch Superuser application". That deleted SuperSU as default app to handle root, but again it didn't make SuperUser as default also. So, none of SuperSU or SuperUser were default apps to handle root
So, trying to make this out, I've uninstalled SuperUser and made ODIN again with CF-Root-SGS3-v6.3. All procedure went as expected but SuperSU still isn't default app to handle root. Now when I'm launching TitaniumBackup (for instance) it just says that it can't work because it has no root rights. As previously no Permission access window from SuperSU.
Do you have any ideas?
OK, my fault.
I've accidentaly used CF-Root-SGS3-v6.3 instead of v6.4. After ODIN with v6.4 everything works great. Even apps which hadn't popups from SuperSU previously now work. For example xMissedCallPath for exDialer now works somehow.
Sorry to bother you all, topic to close.

[Q] CleanMaster Root Access Failed

I have already given root access to the app Clean Master. Under the 'Autostart Manager' page, I tried to remove apps that autostart by itself. However, the app pop out a message indicating 'Failed to Grant Root' and reminded me to grant root access.
I went back to the superuser app, it was indicated that root access has been granted.
Any way to solve this problem?
I have been having this same issue on rooted stock gs4. It's temperamental when it comes to root I've noticed. One day I was able to turn it app off of auto start and when I installed a new app it wouldn't let me do it and su says I'm granted
I'm experiencing the same issues. Auto Start Manager is the only feature that has this issue.

I always face this issue also, what I do as a temporary fix is, go to the SuperSU app, then "Forget" Clean Master, open Clean Master and try to disable an app from Auto starting, grant root and the app will be disabled I hope it works for you too
I am glad I am not the only one having this issue. I recently updated an app via the play store and clean master told me it was auto starting. I tried to block it, but it keeps telling me root access failed and to grant it. Well I've granted it root 18 times now and it still says root failed. I have tried everything to get it to work...clear logs, tell superSU to forget clean master, give it global default, etc. Nothing seems to work and it's pissing me off.
Unfortunately this does not work for me.
I have granted root access according to SuperSU Pro however when trying to stop autostarting apps in Clean Master it reminds me to allow access.
I even get a popup massage from SU stating that the app got granted root access.
Whats happening here? Does anyone have a work around?
Deleting Cleanmaster in SuperSU doesnt help. It is always the same unfortunately.
Best Regards
J
I too also have problems with the autostart function in Clean Master on my Optimus Zone II
First of all, if you've root then you shouldn't use clean master. That's so naive.
About the permissions. Even after root your system partition stays in read only mode. I'm guessing this okay. You should check that out first.

Ok, (I know Im gunna reget this), but why?, in your option, should Clean Master NOT be used, since it need so many "root" functions in order to work? Ive used it for years. Rooted or no, (mostly rooted), and why do all the "autostart" apks, (ROM Toolbox, Autostarts, Autostart Manager, etc) work just fine. I've tryied it with r-w on system on, sooooo....next...?

I can't argue over this. Best options for you 1. Root Cleaner (high priority) 2. SD Maid Pro (medium priority)
See the difference yourself.
fix?
Has anyone figured out what the issue is here? It worked just fine on cm12 but stock Lilli nope. Root issues for sure it must have something to do with system partition. Has anyone fixed this issue?

I just rooted my s6 edge and was having the same issue with 2.46. Luckily when I updated to 2.49, I was unable to block the autostartup apps.

Titanium backup not restoring apps linage OS 15.1

I have just flashed linage OS 15.1 (Based on Oreo) on my one plus 2 and i have installed titanium backup again and selected my backup folder and hit batch restore all apps and data but it just freezes on 0%
i have managed to get it to restore 2 apps or so by messing with the settings and then it just does the same again and freezes.
Could this be a root issue? i noticed that when i installed super SU through TWRP and booted to the system it wasn't installing the super SU manager app i had to manually download it from the play-store, i had also installed root checker and everything comes up OK.
Also i have tried indirect mode in the tibu settings and it still freezes, the only way it works is in interactive mode but that takes forever to click install that many times.
Busy box is installed
Super su is installed (might be the issue)
verify over usb is unticked
USB debugging is on
also i have turned off google play protect but i have a good idea that its something to do with that could be causing the issue
Im stuck with what to try next if anyone has any ideas let me know im lost here :good:
I'm curious about this as well. I had this issue on my old note 4 the other day. Only thing I found on Google is to deselect a Google security option that scans apps. It might work for you. It didn't for me.
I'm actually wanted to play with my Nexus as well after a long time. So this will be interesting if I will have the same issue.
