[Q] Should I keep strict to the baseband version when upgrading? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I've bought a new Galaxy SII recently, and faced a problem with the market, it crashes and not a single solution I read on the internet has helped me.
I've thought if I upgrade to 2.3.4 from 2.3.3 it could solve the problem, KIES doesn't offer me any upgrade.
My firmware is specific to the Middle East, it includes support for Arabic keyboard.
Now I have two questions after I've read the topic Official i9100 Firmwares KF1/2/3/4/, KG1/2/3/5/6/7, KH1/2/3/4 Download
1) If I upgrade to a version which isn't specific to the Middle East, will I lose the support for Arabic keyboard?
2) Should I be strict to the phone baseband version?
Baseband version: XXKG5
Build Number: JPKH1
In another word, should I choose the versions for Baseband XXKG5 only from that thread?

1. If you use a version that is not specific to the middle east, you will lose your arabic support but there are now mods where you can add arabic support to any rom.
2. Baseband equals modems that you can change, you might find better reception with a newer modem.
3. csc which contains the information for connecting to the internet, you will need to keep the same :

Regarding CSC, I can add IPNs on my own, so it doesn't matter for me then?
Thank you

Post the specifics of your current firmware. Input *#1234# in the dialpad and post the details as they appear on here.
JPKH1 is Arabic firmware

Here's the output
PDA: I9100JPKH1
PHONE: I9100XXKG5
CSC: I9100JPKH1
Build Info: Fri Aug 5 13:34:05 KST 2011

Sorry guys not wanting to hijack the thread, been searching for similar answers...
PDA: I9100XWKF3
PHONE: I9100XXKH3
CSC: I9100CPWKD1
I'm rooted using CF matched Kernel and have remained on that, does no harm as far as i'm aware except for yellow triangle at boot..
I'd like to go from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 too and wondering about what to flash and what would fit, my CSC is Carphone Warehouse would that be correct? How important is it to match CSC?
Regards Baseband, doesn't really matter does it?
And firmware, thought about Frankenstein XXKF3 or 4 or am I getting things totally wrong?
And on that note, does the firmware version stiplulate which ROM I can load?

Ok. Try clearing the market data under manage applications and see if that works.
If you're not using an Arabic firmware you won't have Arabic language support.

I tried it many times, it just doesn't work, I tried to do factory reset, installed a newer version (3.0.26 & 3.0.27) I moved MarketUpdater.apk (someone said it works). Nothing at all was useful to me. I want to have the complete experience, I want to access the market, but it doesn't work!!
I have the same problem in my fiancee's X8 xperia too.
I don't know if it's related to my country (market isn't available here, it's forbidden here). I rooted my device and installed & configured SSH Tunnel, I sniffed the network and made sure that it connects through the ssh tunnel, but it crashes every time.

I'm going to download this GT-I9100_XSG_I9100JPKH1_I9100XXKG5_I9100OJPKH1.exe and install it, to restore the phone to its default status.
I should do it in Odin using the PDA box, right?

I've finished the restore of the original firmware, it didn't help the app still crashes!!

Sound like it's been sabotaged. We need an Android intifada in your country to stop the oppression against the Android market.

There is already intifada in Syria

But not Android intifada though.
BTW, Stay safe.

Questions about my SGSII I9100JPKG3 firmware?

Dear all,
I am new to this valuable forum & resource. I have been searching within the forum for the past few days & I am looking for help please. I have the following SGSII:
PDA: I9100JPKG3
Phone: I9100XXKG1
CSC: Unknown
Product code: GT-I9100LKADAM
Kernel version:
2.6.35.7-I9100JPKG3-CL388633
[email protected] #2
Build Info: Sun Jul 17, 2011 13:52:14 KST 2011
I have the following simple questions:
1. I have extensively searched the forum, & I couldn't find any information about this firmware JPKG3! I only found JPKG2 & JPKG5. Is my mobile's firmware official although I bought it from an official reseller in my country?
2. The CSC is unknown & I found a post by Intratech providing the CSC file: "csc_xsg_i9100ojpkg1" for Arabic language. Is is possible to use Odin to flash my SGSII with this CSC file only? And if I flash it, will I solve the "Unknown" issue? Do I need to backup my data? Will the data be wiped out?
3. I also could not find the product code GT-I9100LKADAM throughout the whole website! Any help on that?
4. The Kernel version mentioned above is a bit weird. Is the firmware rooted? I personally didn't do so knowing that i bought the mobile brand new.
5. If I updated to the newer version JPKG5 using Odin, will I solve the Unknown CSC & Kernel issues? Also, will my data be wiped out?
6. Kies does not recognize my mobile! Any help? Is it because of this firmware?
I would really appreciate your valuable help on the above questions. Thanks in advance.
Just flash the JPKG5 from the firmware thread, it's the latest firmware for your device and the DAM CSC is included as the package is a multi-CSC one.

Thanks Intratech for your quick reply. Honestly, I wanted to thank you for your post on the official firmwares but I couldn't do it there since I'm still new... I enjoyed & benefited a lot in every post your wrote It's a master piece...
What about the Kernel issue? Is my current one rooted? If yes, will it be solved when I flash to JPKG5?
Also, what about the product code? I couldn't find anything related to it anywhere! Is it because it's still new in my country?
Finally, after I flash to JPKG5, will Kies recognize my phone?
Thank you Intratech for your valuable help...
No, it's not rooted despite the label however flashing the kernel will update it to the newer kernel. DAM product code is covered by the firmware, if you look in the bracket you will see a list of the CSC covered and DAM is included.

Dear Intratech,
I followed your procedures at the original post & flashed JPKG5 with Odin. Everything went fine & smooth. However, when I tried to change the CSC I got the following list: (XSS, XSG, WAN, TUN, THR, PAK, OTU, MWD, MMC, MID, MED, MAT, LEV, KSA, EGY, BTC, AFG, ABS). It's different than the list mentioned in your post & there is no DAM in it. So what can I do now? Is there a firmware that contains DAM? By the way, I do not know for which country/region DAM stands for? Can you help please? So I currently used the LEV CSC which is the closest to my country!
My updated device data are the following:
Product Code: GT-I9100LKALEV
PDA: I9100JPKG5
Phone: I9100XXKG1
CSC: I9100OJPKG1
Build Info: Thu Jul 28 19:58:32 KST 2011
Kernel version:
2.6.35.7-I9100JPKG5-CL428948
[email protected] #2
Additionally, when I use Kies, I get: "This version of the device cannot be updated." However, it recognizes it as PDA:KG5 / PDA:KG1 / CSC:KG1 (LEV). Does this mean I can no longer update the firmware through Kies?
Can you please help on the above issues? It's much appreciated. Thanks.

I will investigate this for you. Once there is a newer firmware for your device then KIES will allow you to update.

[Q] Where to find latest original COMCEL Colombia firmware?

I actually have this setup after flashing and rooted XXKI4 (intratech tread), every things ok but my Product Code change from "COM" to KOR".
PDA: I9100UHKH3
PHONE: I9100XXKI4
CSC: I9100COMKH1
Build Info: Thu Aug 25 11:42:14 KST 2011
ROOTED: YES I9100XXKH3
Android Version: 2.3.4
Then I Restore in Recovery Mode a original firmware's full Backup I made before flash (Product Code return to COM), thinking Kies recognize it as original upgradable but don't.
Now I need flashing with the original firmware (Colombia Comcel "COM")
Thanks for your help...
Hgroove4
Here you can find the links, but some of them are dead. You need to ask Intratech to post new link for yours.
If you're after the original firmware that came with your phone, you're probably out of luck. However, you can get the latest firmware available for your phone/carrier/country using an app called Checkfus. Search for it on here.

[Q] Is my phone standard?

Hi
I've been jailbreaking iphones since they came out but have switched to android now so I'm a noob again!
I bought a new S2 on ebay (sealed) but I'm not sure it's standard UK, I've attached 2 screen grabs.
Could someone please tell me if my phone is rooted? (the [email protected] is what got me thinking)
In case attachments don't work:
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKH1-CL431225 [email protected] #2
Also:
PDA: I9100XWKH1
PHONE: I9100XXKG5
CSC: I9100XEUKH1
And is it possible for me to ugrade to ICS?
I've tried researching here and other websites. Odin is clearly the way to go and I see lots of XXK** and other 5 digit codes which i guess are region/Firmware specific but mine don't seem to match any of these??
Any help much appreciated.
Pretty standard stuff. XEU stands for UK Unbranded. Firmware is an old one though. Follow links in my signature to proceed. ICS has been released though we are still waiting for a unbranded UK version. Enjoy.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Dell is the name of the system on which this kernel was made. It is currently not rooted.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Yeah, Linux formats things as "username"@"computer". Samsung just compile their kernels logged in as root.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
I looks like you have a standard build.
If you really want to check whether your phone is rooted or not, try downloading the "superuser" app from the market (sorry, "Google Play").
If your phone isn't rooted, it'll tell you.

but u have to do it on ur own risk
as for as ICS rom is concerened u can if u root ur phone with a custom rom of ur choice
for more details about custom ICS roms mail me @ ( [email protected])

I have been reading in various places that XEU is a Polish version, is that correct? I'm a bit confused as to whether I have UK or Polish version - should be looking at XEUKH1 or XEUKH1 ??
Thanks

For the CSC part, you should be looking at I9100 XEU KH1; U+K is just a mere coincidence.
XEU is the code of the operator or the code of the "unbranded operator" - in my case I use "TPH" which is the unbranded csc for Portugal.
As for the token KH1:
K stands for the year - 2011 (ICS builds are from 2012 so they're L??)
H stands for the month - 11 or Nov (ICS builds have now been following this, though - e.g. LPQ, LP3, ...)
1 is an incremental number for multiple builds in the same month (also, sometimes letters are used)
Thanks.
So with these in mind for my phone:
PDA: I9100XWKH1
PHONE: I9100XXKG5
CSC: I9100XEUKH1
PDA - shows I am using Android version 2.3.4
PHONE - shows I have a phone designed to be used in the UK (XXKG5)??
CSC - shows I have an unbranded european phone??
Is that correct?
So if I upgrade my firmware to a stock UK one then all that would change above is PDA??
But if I upgraded to the Polish version of ICS how would that affect what *#1234#?
corype use
As far as i understand, installing any stock version minded for an EU phone should be the same. All they change is the language, however english should be present always.
I've got the same ROM images, and although I believe the XEU ICS has been released by Sammy yesterday, I'm (still) getting the "Your device does not support firmware upgrade" message from KIES.
I've done a hard reset of the phone, re-installed KIES with the latest version ( repeated on two PCs )...
Is there something funny about these ROM images?
Bought from Phones4U as an O2 Upgrade.
If I have to zap it using Odin, is there a way to save the existing ROM images?

[Q] Can I change my Australian firmware from Vodafone to Telstra?

Hi there,
I currently purchased a new SG3. It has the vodafone branding which I want to change. When I do the *#1234# it shows me the following:
AP: I9300TDUALE6
CP: I9300TDULE6
CSC: I9300TVAUALE6
"About Device" reports:
Model Number: GT-i9300T
Android version: 4.0.4
Baseband version: I9300TDULE6
Kernel version: 3.0.15-CL554509-user
[email protected]#1
SMP PREEMPT Sun May 13 11:52:35 KST 2012
Build number: IMM76D.I9300TDUALE6
Am I able to change the software/firmware from Vodafone to the Telstra one located on Sammobile. Im unable to post outside links but heres a copy of whats available on sammobile.
Firmwares for GT-I9300T - All (10 latest)
Country/Carrier Date Android PDA CSC
Australia (Telstra) 2012 June 4.0.4 I9300TDUALF2 I9300TTELALF2
Australia (Telstra) 2012 May 4.0.4 I9300TDUALE6 I9300TTELALE6
I got no idea how all this rooting stuff works. Im trying to learn but I can get my head around it. So sorry if any of my questions seem stupid. Thanks for all your help in advance.
No need rooting to flash.
And yes you can flash Telstra firmware on Voda model, they are the same hardwares.
You need Odin 3.04 and need samsung usb driver or if you already have it working with Kies, then no worries about driver.
Here I copied the general instruction from the UK thread:
Instructions For Flashing Firmware:
Extract the firmware
Launch Odin
Turn off your device
Put your device into Download MODE (Home + Volume Down + Power)
Click PDA and select *.tar.md5
Then finally click START!
Thanks mate. Am downloading the firmware now. Its gonna take 2 hours to download.
Am I meant to change any of the options in Odin3?
Thanks again.
Now that I have flashed my galaxy s3 successfully.
I keep getting the message "Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped"
Does anyone know what this is or can direct me into the right place? Ive done a factory reset as another thread recommended but didnt work.
Thanks

Background
Back in June/July when I was attending my friend's wedding in the states I bought a GT-i9100 off eBay while I was there (I live in the UK). Came with Gingerbread installed at 2.3.4. I knew there was a 2.3.5 available and possibly even ICS so I tried an OTA update. ~EDIT: I just remembered the other reason I wanted to update was that the screen had a yellow tinge and other some users were saying updating the phone fixed that for them.~ Nothing. Looked around the web, found out you need to do it via KIES and that there was indeed an ICS update for the GS2. Phone wouldn't connect to KIES so I did some more looking around in case there was a known problem but I also came to the realisation that my phone might be from a region where it wasn't released.
It turned out to have originally been bought in Hong Kong (the previous owner left some family photos and company documents on it too). I should have realised sooner when the phone had chinese as a secondary keyboard language. I identified the CSC as ZSKI3 and lo and behold Hong Kong wasn't getting ICS for the GS2.
Did some poking around and got confused by the conflicting or rather inconsistency between guides to change the CSC. Somehow followed followed one guide and put on XWLP7 (I believe this is open Europe. But I think I only flashed the ROM (PDA). I ended up with ICS but there have been minor niggles whilst using it which I think might be caused by something being mismatched between the firmware, kernal and rom.

Problem
I believe I'm suffering some problems with my GS2 because I flashed just the PDA to ICS and now there might be some conflicts going on between it and the firmware/kernal.
I would like to correct the CSC, ROM, firmware and kernal to open Europe or some other open CSC which you believe to be better.
I understand that I got myself into this mess and don't expect you to take the time to give detailed instructions.

Ok, i did very much the same thing as you. Ok probably no. I brought mine oversea not ebay. However i live in Australia. But the phone was stock from asia. I wanted try flash and play with different roms. Blah blah.
What you need to do is have a data cable like one you were trying to use with Kies. Now you need to see if you can get into odin mode ( from an off phone position, hold down vol down + home key while turning on the phone.) This feature as far as i know is for all android phones. And is one feature you cant break, flash or change. ( note, if ya cant get to odin mode, you have yourself a brick, screwed or stuffed or wat word deem appropriate? )
If all above is working. Goto http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3 somewhere in the mid of that page is some field you need to put in. Pick your phone model, and the country you are in or want the phone to set in. Down load the file. And follow the odin guide which i am not typing out. You can google it with full pictures And video eye candy.
Good luck.
