Sending int'l SMS in int'l format - Motorola Photon 4G

I have unlimited international texting package on my phone. All my contacts numbers are in international format. E.g.:
• US numbers are +1-ccc-nnn-nnnn (ccc = area code. nnn = the phone number)
• UK numbers are +44-7ccc-nnn-nnn.
• SA numbers are +27-8c-nnn-nnn.
I was using an EVO on a personal account and had no problem sending to my friends in UK, Albania, Germany, South Africa and Australia. Int'l texting worked great for a few months now. I then converted to a business account and got a Photon on a new line; switched the int'l texting package to that phone. Sprint CS verified that it is indeed active on the Photon line.
Whenever I send an int'l SMS I always get this message from sender 9230: "Message sent to invalid destination. Please check your number and try again. Msg 2127".
I phoned Sprint CS and my issue has been escalated up to Tier 3 support at the int'l dept. They have asked if I have included 011 in front of my number.
Therefore, the numbers to send the int'l SMS would be:
• UK numbers 011-44-7ccc-nnn-nnn.
• SA numbers 011-27-8c-nnn-nnn.
It seems, if I send a message to a friend in UK this way, he gets the message, but if I use international format for my numbers, I get the 9230 error message.
I really don't want to have to change 200+ contacts by adding 011 prefix to all my numbers. Having all my numbers in international format is great for when I travel. The + symbol will be the international dialing prefix depending on the country: US is 011, Europe is 00.
Seeming as the int'l messages worked fine on the EVO 4G, could it possibly be an error on the Photon's side of things in the way it is interpreting the international format prefix +?
While I wait for an answer from Sprint Int'l department, can anyone verify if this happens with them on their Photons?
Thanks

I have actually never encountered such problem. Although, the only international texts I have sent to is to Hong Kong. All my phone numbers are in +852 xxxx xxxx as it were supposed to be.
Right off my mind (Although I'd be surprised Sprint hasn't suggested this yet), you might want to check Settings -> Call Settings -> Plus Code Dialing Setting, and make sure the checkbox is set, the the dialing code is set to 011?

Thanks for the heads up, but my settings were the default:
Under the Plus Code Dialing settings:
Domestic Dialing IS checked
International Dialing & Messaging code: 011

Evo 4G LTE
I'm having this same problem with my Evo LTE. I imported all of my contacts and SMS history from my Desire, which I had used in Germany for the last 2 years.
A bunch of the numbers don't work. I tried updating a few numbers of people I SMS frequently, but it didn't solve the problem. It looks like any thread that was STARTED with an international number defaults back to that number any time I SMS in that thread, or even respond to an SMS from that contact. Even when the incoming number shows up in U.S. (xxx) xxx-xxxx format, I still get a 2127 error for replies.

Contact Identification in Brazil - SMS & Phone Calls

Hey Guys!
I'm having some issues in contact identification in Brazil and would like to know if you share the same problems in other countries. (And, .:hopefuly:., if you have a solution for this)
In Brazil, to make long distance phone calls we have to store our contacts number in this format:
0 + Operator + Area Code + Phone Number
For short distance calls, you could use just the phone number or the "full" number with the zero, operator and area code numbers.
Considering this, I've always had my contacts full numbers stored in my phone in case that if I go to another area code, I'll still be able to call my contacts from my city and from somewhere else.
The problem is: Whenever I get a SMS / MMS, the operator send the number in the following format (with a missing operator no.) and the phone won't recognize it as being a contact number.
0 + Area Code + Phone Number
I used to have nokias phones (n95, e71), motorola's, etc. and they all were capable to identify the contacts in SMS and phonecalls. I'm probably doing something stupid with my phone here.
It may be relevant:
Phone numbers in brazil: 8 digits
Area codes: 2 digits
Operators: 2 digits
ps.: If I misused the "operator" word, you can undestand it as being like "Sprint", "Verizon", "O2" and other companies that may provide you with long distance services. Eg. I could be a sprint user and use verizon's long distance service.
What your operator?
Thx
EMERSON VIER
My current phone operator is TIM - Brasil - São Paulo (11)
Every SMS I get has the phone number in this format:
0 + Area Code + Phone Number
Does android allow some sort of "default" operator for every phone call?
I'm having the same problem with my phone, I'm also a TIM subscriber.
The only (flawed) solution that I've found is to store the same number again but without the operator code.
Still hoping to find a better solution. Anyone out there can help us?!?
I use the MagiCall 2.2.4. my operator TIM.

That's exactly what I'm doing.
Couldn't find Magicall for android. Just WinMo.
My phone operator in Brazil is Vivo and I store all my phone numbers in the following format:
0 + area code + phone number
Because I ommited the operator code, Vivo assumes its default code. This way, the numbers stored in my phone are good for short and long distance calls, and the caller identification also works for SMS and MMS.
I'm not sure that applies to TIM though.
Of course what I suggested is just a workaround. This seems to be a known issue in Android:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1673
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1250
http://groups.google.com/group/android-platform/browse_thread/thread/0e5286ce14aba5b2
You could vote for the issues.
TIM doesn't have a "default" operator service. That's why we have this problem.
I think Claro and VIVO does. As soon as I get out of this contract, I'll migrate to other provider.
I have the same problem here.
You guys found any solution beside switching operators?
Nope.... Right now I'm a very happy vivo user.
However, it seems that the sim card is the one responsible to automatically add an operator number. Every time I call someone without the operator I get this message indicating that the sim card has changed the mumber automatically.
I wonder if we could add an program into TIM's simcards to act like other companies do.

I installed a program called Right Number.
All my contacs are in the format: 0 + Area code + Number (01191234567)
When you make a call, the program adds the operator number of your like.
And when you receive a call, the phone will recognize the contact.
I recomend!

T-Mobile Voicemail (number to divert to)

Hi Guys.
Has anyone got the number to divert t-mob voicemail to? I can't seem to find it anywhere on the web :?
And I'm on an unlocked hero so it wasn't set up as standard
079....
Log in to Your T-Mobile online account, select support, then confirm your phone type and they will SMS you the updated details.
Alternatively give them a call.
This is the trouble with T-Mobile, EVERY user has their own v-mail number as opposed to 121 or 123... weirdos!
Oh that makes sense. I had the number, but when I dialed it took me to my inbox. Which makes sense now.
Thanks

Unknown Caller

Hello I have a HTC Fuze currently running Titanium 28005.
I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem also. When someone calls me from a cell phone if they are in my contacts or not it comes up as Unknown Caller but if someone calls me from a land line it will come up as it should.
I have tried installing Titanium 28005 and 21877 , Standard 28005 and 21877 also the Leo EnergyROM and still no matter what I do it comes up as Unknown Caller.
Everything I have tried to do:
Install different Roms
Hard Reset
Soft Reset
Deleting all of my contacts and putting them in again. With or without area codes and 1 with area codes.
Tried NRGZ28 Tachi Dialer Disabler.
Tried searching xda-developers with google.
I am sorry if I am being a "noob" or something and if I seem like I am bableing on I am just trying to give as much info as I can.
Caller Display falls into two major categories:
Landline
The majority of landline service providers include Caller Name Display (CallID) as part of their service offering. When someone wishes to keep their number private, they must pay a fee. Note that some landline service providers split the service offering as follows:
Display telephone number (usually free)
Display telephone number and name (enhancement, fee)
Cellular
As cellular telephone numbers are private by default, most subscribers (you) must be pay a fee to provide the number. Many cellular service provider "include" the feature as part of a basic (voicemail, sms, etc.) cellular feature package.
The majority of cellular service providers do not include Caller Name Display (CallID) as part of their service offering. The cellular subscriber must pay a fee to receive the telephone number of the calling party.
What this means:
When you call a landline number, your number would be displayed providing the providing the following rules are met:
You have not requested privacy.
The caller cellular service provider offers the number (and name) to other telco networks.
The landline customer is able to receive number (and name) display via their landline service provider.
You are paying for the Caller Name Display feature.
Your device is capable of processing number (and name) information.

HTH,
Update: What it is, is that when ever a Verizon cell phone calls me it comes up as unknown caller. As an example when my girlfriend calls me (AT&T Phone) it comes up with her contact info. When ever a friend with Verizon calls me it comes up as Unknown Caller. I have tested this with all of my friends that are on Verizon My girlfriend has the same problem on her LG Vu that still stock nothing has been done to the phone, but my mothers phone works when a Verizon phone calls her. I have not changed anything on my bill or anything in the past 2 years only thing I have done is change phones.
Everything was working just fine in till Saturday I started getting the unknown caller problem. My friends have also mentioned that when they call me they hear a wired noise like a computer trying to connect to the internet thorough dial up then it starts to ring.
I contacted AT&T today and they are looking into the problem. It might have something to do with them merging with Centennial Wireless
I will keep people posted if they are interested in knowing what come out of it. And if someone can throw in there two cents on what they may think it to be be my guess I am willing to try anything. I hate now knowing who is calling.
Next time you speak with AT&T, ask them to "repush" your SIM profile as well to eliminate the possibility of profile corruption.
HTH,
I received a call from a Verizon line yesterday, this morning actually a little after midnight. Showed up. I am on AT&T.
Update: I just Re-Flashed the orignal HTC Rom that they provide on there website
(HTC FUZE RUU Raphael Cingular US 5.11.502.2 Radio Sign Raphael 52.64c.25.35 1.14.25.35 Ship)
And had my friend call me and everything came up as it should so it might be the rom I flashed to my phone witch was Phoenix 2 28005 11-27-2009
altho att might have done something with out contact me so i am going to re flash the Phoenix 2 28005 11-27-2009 and check
Update: Ok flashed Phoenix 2 28005 11-27-2009 and everything is working as it should. I don't know if AT&T did something or not but now when someone on Verizon calls me it comes up as it should.
when it comes unknown caller, is it display their number just below unknown caller?

[Q] Calls, numbers and long distance operators

Hello,
Just got my HTC Ultimate (Brazil's for Titan) and I'm experiencing some problems while dialing and returning calls...
For the details below I'll use a number (9999-8888) from Brazil (country code 55), with 31 as area code.
I store my numbers in international format (+55 31 9999-8888, for the number above) and Vivo (my mobile carrier) sends incoming calls identified as 03199998888 (same number).
I can't call none of them, as I need to dial (according to Brazil's standards) a number in the following format:
0 15 31 9999-8888
The leading ZERO identifies a long distance call, the following "15" tells them to use a especific long distance provider, 31 is the area code and the rest is the number.
In android I've used several apps to do this "translation" in real time, while calling, like "Operadora DDD", "Profiler" or Right Number...
Is there anything like this in Windows Phone 7?
I've checked the "International calling assist" thing too...
I believe it's good to match incoming calls with different number patterns from my contacts.
In fact, no matter where it's on or off, my phone matches 03199998888 for "+55 31 9999-8888", so I believe it would deal with more strange patterns...
While receive a call and match a contact is OK, calling is still a challenge...
Anyone with tips?
Hi, rgmarques. I'm from Brazil too. I have the same problem. Send email to [email protected].
Thanks
Antonio Marques
Hi guys, i'm a former owned of a HD7 and now I own a Ultimate too.
All my contacts use the pattern: +5511XXXXXXXX, for São Paulo as an example. All working now.
The fallowing patterns also works: 011XXXXXXXX, 0YY11XXXXXXXXX
As an example, if you use a TIM SIM, the match option when someone calls you will not work, at least never worked on any imported device I own previously. This is because when your recieve a local call, TIM does no put the DDD before the number! This is done nice by Vivo.
Please, don't keep information on your email, share it with forum. Since the Titan is a brand new device here in Brazil, more people will come to find solutions for their problems.

Try this: Go to Settings and then choose SIM application.
Click on "show application", click on "Facilidades" and then "Vivo DDD". Activate it.
Give feedback please.

Well, seems like my SIM card doesn't have a "facilidades" option...
Here in minas Gerais, we've moved from Telemig Celular to Vivo 1,5 years ago and some stuff hasn't changed completely yet... SIM apps seems to be the case...
I've seen different behaviors in incoming calls matching on my Motorola Milestone, depending on the ROM I used. Never tried different carriers, as it was never an option. But I believe they might send different numbers as originator of the call, resulting in different results.
But my problem relates to originating a call...
Vivo won't let me call +5511XXXXYYYY... I need to call 01511XXXXYYYY...
Well, while no alternative solutions come up, I've changed my contact numbers to match our (Brazilian) pattern... Regular expressions made this reasonable while nothing else shows up... If anyone needs any specific help with the process, just let me know...
I'll keep looking and will report here if i find anything useful...
Thanks.

Call VIVO and ask them to enable this for you. Or, if your have an old Nokia, try you SIM on it and see if the option appears there for you.
But can be different SIMs for each State.
When you DIAL without the DDD Operator, nor the AREA, does it completes the call? If not, this is the problem and this service from VIVO will 'add' the DDD Operator when you do a long distance call.

Hi Cris,
I have a Titan with Tim, and I save the contacts with 04121XXXX-XXXX, so when I receive a call from my contacts I don't see the contact's photo or name, only the tel number XXXX-XXXX without area code. But when I save the number like XXXX-XXXX without area code and Tim code, the photo appears on screen.
I had a Htc Diamond with Tim and photos appears well.

Well,
I used to save my contacts in the international format, +55 31 9999-8888.
With that, I'll need a transformation instead of a simple addition of the carrier code...
If I call 03199998888, the call completes when it's a local one. If it's a true long distance call, it will fail, requiring me to explicitly inform the carrier code.
Well, I will try to check if Vivo has any hint for me.
I'll call them tomorrow.
Thanks again.

[Q] Can't send outgoing text messages

My Galaxy Note II can receive and send phone calls, I can use data over the 3 network and I can receive texts, but I cannot SEND texts.
My Note II is rooted, unlocked and running Jelly beans rom V5 on the 3 network in Scotland on a pay as you go SIM card. The SIM card works in my other UK phone (unlocked Nexus S), i.e. I can send texts when it's in the Nexus.
I have never been able to send texts with the 3 SIM card in the Note II, (as in this isn't something that was working and stopped, it never worked). My note II was able to send texts when it was on the Verizon SIM in the states.
After I send a text, the "view message info" screen show it as sending to a +44 number and says sent. Several hours later (after the recipient in question never receives the text) I get a text from +441144 (then recipients number) with a message stating " Your text - to - speech message to 01144 (number of recipient) has been rejected by recipient phone."
Calling my +44 contacts works just fine.
I have no idea how to fix this issue. Does anyone have any ideas/ similar issues with their Verizon note II abroad ?
Thank you for your help and time
Using rooted Verizon phone to text on UK three network
I had the exact same problem, three network, using a Verizon S3 with synergy ROM and a hacked APN (as Verizon would not allow APN to be added), I guess you figured that bit out? Using APN Manager Pro running as a system app as set by Titanium Backup Pro.
You also have to make sure you have all the right APN settings, this was done to make DATA work on the phone.
Now the problem you describe is exactly what we had, it's the format of your phone numbers in your contact list, for UK numbers while in the UK, you DO NOT use the +44 or 44... just enter the number as normal 0745 xxx xxx etc... and that fixes the problem. Btw It's quicker to log into your gmail account and edit all of your phone numbers in there, presuming you use Gmail to sync your contacts and not verizon backup as that won't work over here when off their network.
This does cause another problem though, if you happen to use Viber, then viber will not see the contact, so what you do for that is add ANOTHER entry in the same contact, so I use the WORK field, and you enter +44 745 ... you must have the + in there and you must drop the zero, this way normal text works using the MOBILE entry in UK format, and Viber can see the contact in thge WORK entry... all appears to work doing this.
I know it's off topic and you may not use viber, but if you do, then your USA contacts would have to change your phone book entry to +44 745 xxxxxx again including the + and international country code and they can then see you as a viber contact. To see my USA contacts I changed my entries to +1 xxx xxx xxxx, so an orlando number might be +1 407-999-9999 then Viber can see the contact, just use multiple entries within the same contact, there are plenty of fields available.
Hope all of this helps, took some time to figure it all out

I'm having this problem too, on a Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere 2 that I imported from America (it's got a slide-out keyboard, we don't have them over here), also rooted and running on the three network.
I've changed all my +447 contacts to 07 but texts only send successfully when I start a new conversation and pick the 07 recipient. When they text me back the number at the top changes to +447 again and I can't reply without starting a new conversation.
Any tips?
possible workaround
I've installed Handcent to replace the stock sms app and it seems to be working well so far. As far as I can tell, replies are successful and the number doesn't default to +44
