I'm looking for a smart wireless management app for my Streak.
Main function I'm looking for is the ability to let it automatically switch between WiFi and 3G as soon as signal drops below an exact specified value.
Right now I have a fairly fast 3G connection on Vodafone NL, but when I'm home I switch to Wifi to save cost. At some spots in my house the 3G connection is way faster then my Wifi signal, so I want it to atomatically choose the fastest connection.
Is there any simple app out there that chooses the connection with best send/receive qualitiy?Anyone knows about an app that can do this?

anyone knows how to make the wifi take priority in internet access whenever it is turned on and available at the same time with an edge connection, i always have to go to comm manager and turn off the data then turn on wifi to access that wifi speed.. thank you
Some helpful information that might apply to your question can be found at:

when enabled, WiFi takes priority over UMTS connection, so even if you have them both up, the phone will choose the wireless network, unless you are trying to browse to a web site which was added to 'exclusions list' (like your operator's home page).
but, only if you have changed the default settings to set that WiFi connects you to the Internet. Which is not the default.
To do so you have to go into the Settings -> Connections -> Network Cards -> Network Adapter.
</snip>
I have found this information on several different forums with several different folks and use cases posted. I also think that you might get some milage out of the "comm mgr pro" or "IP Dashboard" applications as well...
Hope this helps,
Bob
Thank you Bob, ill mess with it a little more and post feedback, that was helpful
Thanks again

Simple, I have both activated, move near and away my router range.
When the Wifi signal is weak, the service provider (3G, my case) takes over.
Otherwise when the Wifi signal is strong, the 3G never get to activate.
Maybe others had a better and different approach.
All telco service signal should be available unless you are in fringe area.

oh cool, yea this sounds like the way to go so far, noone has come up with a better solution yet? maybe benchmarking the speeds of each stil it depends on your cable provider (wifi i mean)
Heey,
I just ordered a Samsung Galaxy SII, but I still have a question...
Is there a way to know if you have Wifi enabled and it is connected, that the phones is only using Wifi and not 3G. Because I have a 1GB data plan and when I use my phone at home I want it to only use Wifi and not 3G, so I can use 3G when I'm on the go.
I hope someone can help me.
Thanks in advance!
Yes you can see it (no 3g in the notification bar)
So when I get outside without Wifi, that 3G icon will show up and use 3G. And when I go home it will switch from 3G to Wifi?
Yes

Thanks a lot!
This tread can be closed.
As explained earlier, status bar shows how the phone is connected to internet. By default phone uses wifi if it is on.
I uses "3G watchdog" to keep record of my mobile data usage, this app is simply great.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
3G Watchdog, hmm sound like a useful app to see if I'm over my data limit.
Thanks!
I just noticed when using the Quicker App with Gingerbread I can manually shut off 3g when in the previous 1.8.3 I could not. I've tested it and I can make a call with 3g off. I also tried surfing the web and could not, so 3g must be disconnected. I like that app because I can put the quicker shortcut in the status bar and access it from there.
I'm not really sure if it is just cutting data connection or shutting down 3g completely.
IIRC, the data connection and voice connection are separate since the data part was tacked on after the wireless companies had built all the voice infrastructure.
Does data connection=3g?
Data connection=gprs, edge, 3g, h, h+
Hi everyone, I have a question that i can't quite seem to find an answer to any where i look.
I am a recent android convert, i had ios on my iphone and ipads for many years. I use a wireless hard drive that has its own wifi signal, which i connect my devices to. The problem with doing this is that the device thinks then that it should get all of its internet from that wifi connection, which of course, being a hard drive, it does not have.
To get around this what i have done is go in my IOS configuration and remove the "default gateway" or "router" or whatever you want to call it (depending on your networking background), and then iOS knows to go ahead and not use wifi and continue to send any non local traffic over LTE.
My Samsung Note 5 doesn't seem to want to do this. First thing, when i try to remove the router/gateway from the ip address configuration in wifi, the "save" button is grayed, meaning i cannot save a blank gateway. I located an app on the app store called "wifi settings" which was suggested to use to set the router to nothing, but still this did not work, really what it did was save a 1 in the router/gateway field and caused nothing to work, not even local traffic.
The Note 5 has a "smart network switch" option which is apparently to detect a poor wifi signal and switch to LTE, if i enable this, the phone does realize that the wifi connection to the wifi hdd doesn't have an internet connection, but terminates the wifi connection, thus killing my connection to my hard drive.
My question, does anyone know how to configure the wifi on android to access local resources via wifi while still using the 3g/4g connection for internet traffic?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks much.
Hello users,
I'm wondering if there is a way to use the 4G connection with the wifi in the same time ?
almost like what samsung do with the "booster" option so that the WIFI can get "help" by 4G speed.
Thanks in advance.
Actually the method samsung use is similar to wifi+ on huawei phones. It is not boosting but it switches between wifi and 4g connection depending on condition like connection status, internet availability and speed. As far as i know it prioritize wifi connection but there is a danger of eating up your mobile data quota if your wifi connection is not good.
I am sorry if you are refering to download booster on samsung device. That is a true dual connection. If i remember correctly you can use an app called speedify to get that option or something called super download booster which require root.
