I know I should know the answer to this, but I keep ending up in the stock recovery...
I just tried to install 0vermind's 2nd init rehack, and now I'm stuck at the Dual Core boot logo screen. Is there any way to boot into the custom recovery from a powered off state so I can just reinstall the atrix rom and undo the changes?
I've tried holding vol down on start up, but that gets me to the fastboot, then stock recovery...which won't install that zip due to signature...
Take the battery out, leave it out, plug phone into wall charger.
Voila!

If u have boot strap installed it should just boot right into recovery from an off state after its plugged in.

Hmm...still sitting at the boot screen.
I can get into the factory recovery though. Will a factory reset in there just erase /data or will it overwrite /system as well?
I suspect I'm going to be stuck doing an SBF...
Unplug.
Take out battery
Put battery back in after a minute
Plug back in.
If the last thing u pressed in system recovery app was "install recovery "
Then it should come up after a minute or so...
It works this way as it hijacks charge only mode
also make sure u are plugged DIRECTLY INTO WALL SOCKET.
U don't have to press power or volume at all. It should come up automatically
If the above doesn't work are you sure you installed the DX2 bootstrap by Tenfar? Did you place in charge mode or something? How did you enter recovery to install scripts?

The above did not work. I ended up doing an SBF since I need the phone tonight and can't play around with it too long (thank you TiBu ).
The last thing I did before getting stuck at the boot screen was boot into Tenfar's recovery using the system recovery app. I installed 0ver's 2nd init rehack and couldn't boot anymore. None of the suggested methods got me past the boot screen though.

Sounds like u may have had conflicting scheduler scripts at that point I think.
,and that isn't a 2nd init rehack it is just a rehack to make normal init.d work right.
I suggest using nacendrobs final 6b version of init.d hack but do not run 98kickasskernel with it as they conflict. You really only need one init.d hack.
Also newest version of eclipse version 6remix5 comes with it preinstalled so u don't need any hacks implemented if u use it.
Also I would male sure u have isbn debugging turned on in settings under application > development as I believe that needs to be on to ensure proper recovery boot when off and plugged in...for next time

I think you're dead on about the scheduler. I was playing with 0ver's speedy script and was installing his init to get it working. I'm actually using the Atrix rom right now...need to switch over to Eclipse... Ah well, it's all fun and games if it's not a brick right?
Thanks for all the helpful tips everyone.

BTW
The Energizer AA battery usb charger works to trigger cwr.

Hi Guys am quite new at this however i've been doing some research on how to install [ROM]KaosFroyo V30 on my Eris but i have not found any instructions or guide and so i was wondering if anyone here could help? by the way i am running the android 2.1 version released by Verizon an HTC and hopefully this won't be a problem.
Google is your friend, also the Eris root app might make things easier.
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
first question is are you rooted?
i think the phone's rooted now!
well i used the eris root app and when it asked me to i used the KaosFroyo V30 zip and it seemed to install ok, then i boot up the device and after an initial boot screen i get a screen saying android in blue and like a white light inside i don't know if that makes any sense but that's where the phone stays. i guess i am rooted now but then phone won't fully boot up

ok so this is what i did i downloaded eris root app i ran the app rebooted the phone as instructed by the app turned it off again then held down volume down and pressed power. then i chose recovery and from there instead of using the default zip file i used the "kaos v30" zip file everything installed well then i just rebooted the device. since then the phone doesn't boot completely it just says android and it just stays there.

good luck and remember to always do a nand backup before flashing anything...saves more lives than seatbelts
The thing that you did different was wiping caches before flashing. That's why it works now.
BTW, NAND backups are important, but the one you made this time was worthless.
A NAND backup makes a copy of your system. Unfortunately your system wasn't functional when you created it.
Use this as a lesson. Always do a NAND before you change anything. That way you can restore to a working system.

Hi guys I was messing around on the HTC DROID ERIS and I may have damage my phone. I change the wrong NV items. 435,436,1192,1194 and now phone keeps turning on and off. it only gets to the skate boarding green dudes. I try adding a custom rom but i dont think i am rooted. I try doing the system wipe but as soon as it reboots to enter that mode it reboots and reboots again same system. I can only update with the PB00IMG.zip but does not changes anything. I can only keep it stable on the hboot usb which I dont know what else to do with that. anyone has any idea on how to correct this issue...
First off I spent hours searching and trying everything I could under the sun. I have ota update and did the one click root which has worked perfectly. the problem i have is trying to boot into recovery so i can flash speedy v2 roadrunner. thing is have tried d2 dx and i cant boot into recovery it just boots normally. i have usb debug off and even tried booting cwm recovery through rom manager with no success and tried droidx/ x init/ droid 2 versions of clockwork to no avail. what am i doing wrong?

Make sure you're plugging your phone into a wall charger NOT USB to a PC.
Ok sorry for the absence but homework is a @#$%&. Ok so I have system recovery installed. I turned off ish debug and plugged it into a regular charger. I then proceeded to recovery where i hit install zip from sd then installed navens init hack which I guess went ok dunno how to check. I rebooted twice then tried to install speedy v2 and I used root explorer to check for "zipalign" anything in /data but nothing. So obviously im being an idiot and although I tried the rehack also I can't get it to show the log. What gives here?
Oh and thank you tremendously for the time and help.

Anyone with the faintist idea? bump.
Did u try installing busy box 1.18.4 I think its the one overmind reccomended although im not 100%
Do u have ANY busybox installed? U would get it or can check if u have it with jrummy busybox installer from market.
Or just try re flashing the rehack after the initial init.d hack and it is recommend to reboot twice.
Might be a better question to ask overmind or navendrob in their threads regarding the hacks.

Hi, I am pretty new to this stuff, so bear with me here.
I recently rooted and installed eclipse v 0.5. Everything went well except I did not get my contacts and figured I did something wrong in the original ROM. I decided to go back to my original rom...but decided to wipe data because I thought that was the right thing to do. Now I have no idea how to restore the nandroid backup because I don't know how to get to clockwork recovery.
Help would be appreciated.
Thanks

weird, I had root and bootstrap still installed after wiping data/cache and dalvik cache.
That Might Have Been Read Wrong, By Flashing Recovery I Meant Pressing The Install Button. To Me That's Flashing The Recovery.
Have you tried just plugging in the phone to the wall charger. Yes wall. And wait to see if it goes to recovery mode.
If it doesn't work all I think you can do is sbf and start again.

ok:
what do you do if said event happens where your recovery doesn't load through after the rom installs with the wipe/cache wipe
your phone boots, however your usb conditions are stuck on usb mode rather than charge mode.
the initial setup starts but is stuck in a loop of force closes that never end.
i have successfully used Roms in the past, no big deal. when **** hits the fan i use sbf; but i'm stuck in limbo where both recovery and sbf are seeming to be out of my options - unless i can change usb mode to charge mode by some strange form of buttons pressed.

Unplug your phone. Hold volume up and power on until you see the m logo and rsd protocol starting.
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
well that allows rsd to find it but - it won't just flash it and call it good. i'm getting all sorts of errors from rsd saying something about my ini
Code:
Failed flashing process. Unable to retrieve initialization value from INI file (0x7029)
i get this error before the above error (before i actually "start" it)
Code:
Chipset type 53 is not supported
restarted computer:
updated drivers:
no dice, same errors
EDIT: the problem was in the RSD version i was using, i got everything working now. thanks!
long story short ......with the new beats audio news out i flashed that and got stuck at the M logo on boot.
I pulled the battery plugged in and booted but still the same, stuck at M logo. Why is my bootstrap not working? i used it earlier today.
I also tried getting into the stock android recovery but then it just gets stuck at the android guy next to the triangle with the ! in the middle.
How do i get back into bootstrap so i can flash my nandroid backup! Thanks guys!
p.s. i have tried it numerous times hoping it would eventually work but nothing.

Did you flash the zrecovery before you rebooted?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426062
Might save you next time
Also if you wiped data your bootstrap will be gone.
not sure what zrecovery is?
i have the bootstrap recovery installed and have been using that for months without a hitch, just after i flashed the beats audio zip this morning (in bootstrap), i can't get it to even boot. im stuck at the M logo. and if i pull the battery and plug in, it won't even start up to bootstrap. I just want to flash my nandroid backup
i didn't wipe data, just flashed the zip. chose reboot in Bootstrap like normal and bam, stuck at M logo.....any way to force back into bootstrap? I was literally just in bootstrap 1 hr ago so i know its there....just not loading
Not that I aware of besides doing a sbf rooting again and installing bootstrap and then you can restore your nano back up.
Be sure to pull the battery for 30 sec put back and then plug in to get cwr to boot. Or Then try to access stock recov pwr on & rocker down to wipe data.
Thanks for the help!
As far as I know, the only way to get into bootstrap is through the bootstrap app itself. Which you need to be able to get into your phone to do. I do think you can get into it by rebooting while plugged in but maybe this doesnt work if you did something to mess up the startup. As was mentioned already, your only choice most likely is to SBF, root and install bootstrap again and then restore your backup.
I beg to differ. As long as charge mode was never put back to normal which is also a mistake.

sending out an SBF, my God there are great tutorials here in General and Android Dev sections... Cwr is not part of DX2 BSR is, but you wiped and lost that. To enter stock Android Recovery you just hit power button volume down...but that won't help you now...so just SBF and root then restore your backed up material through Titanium backup.... Install BSR and NANDroid back...you did make NANDroid backups I assume, if not I suggest starting to. Good luck

Thats what I thought. But the OP cant get that to work from what I get. Is that method still supposed to work if you cant even boot the phone?
As long as you do not wipe data BSR should be installed. If you pull battery and put it back in before you even try to boot plug it in to wall charger. This will take you straight to BSR before you ever try to boot. Then you can get back to your nano back up.

@ the triangle Push the middle of the rocker to get to stock recovery. (both up and down at same time)

Stock recovery wont allow you to flash stuff to the phone or backup your ROM or stuff like that. Thats why we have a special one to do those things.
Stock is good for flashing an ota (no need to rename just make it start w/ a number so it will be first in a mess of zips at the root of your external sd)
And wiping data.

DX2 on 2.3.5, can only be rooted with
Magic MD5 Root
edit: magic md5, should install, the DX2 bootstrap/custom recovery, called BSR/ system recovery app
in app drawer, there will be an app called System Recovery, open it and select first option install
when superuser pops up, select allow, then select 2nd option Recovery mode, phone will shut down, may take a little bit
DX2 is different, even from other motorola phones, to get to recovery, it has to connected to wall charger, because its uses a charging mode hijack
DroidX2 Recovery, works and looks like CWM recovery
every time phone is off and connected to wall charger, it will boot to DroidX2 recovery, when system recovery is in recovery mode
to change to regular charge mode, select third option charge mode in System Recovery app
