Hello,
Yesterday i've downloaded an app called "Appy Geek". It's a news reader, "articles from the best tech blogs and website around the world".
After install, i was adding some articles in favorite and a SuperUser popup appears.
"Appy Geek" ask for root? WTF?!
my reaction: Wanna root? not gonna have it!
I have looked in the permission of the app and it's not said that this app requiers root.
So I want to ask if it's possible to hide this or not write it in the Manifest.permission? Do you think that the app is infected (virus, worm, malware, ...)? Or the dev messed up? Or a bug with SuperUser or the ROM?
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Thx.
PS: I've downloaded the app on the official market.

You can simply deny it SU access. What did the developer say?

I deny it SU acces. I didin't know that an app ca requieres SU permission without any mention in the Permission warning in the Market.
The dev didn't answer...

Has anyone figured out a way to disable the advertisements that show on the bottom in most every app ?
So many are complaining about lag and I (for one) think it has to do with these stupid google advertisements.
Advanced task killer seems to stop them for a few minutes.....but I can't seem to grasp what is feeding them ?!?
Thats how some people make money... But if you must, there is an app called adfree android.... Must have root...

Please do not disable ads as a developer that keeps most of his apps free I really entirely on ads for any thing back.

Usually you can pick up the paid version of the app, which doesn't have ads.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
Just install adfree and be done.

As a consumer, please don't play this bs pity game about your decision to make your app less useful by covering a portion of the screen with ads to make money off us.

wrong section of the forums, this isn't "development"
but yes, AdFree is the thing that you're looking for.. most apps have a DONATE version which will remove the ad
Exactly, I just wanted to end the thread
You can afford a $500 phone, why not pay $ for an app you obviously like and find useful? Its especially insulting to ask for an easy way to screw the developers in a development forum... Try asking in general when you have questions.

Wrong thread.
Here is the classic argument, I believe consumers should have the right to privacy and there are apps out there with risky permissions and adwares that can read your contacts and sms while it is a simply an 'offline' game. I do buy many apps and donate sometimes. I use a phone because it's my personal devices, I customize it how I want. To the dev who blame AdFree for 'losing' money, too bad. Create a good program, charge for it and remove your adwares for the paid version. Or a non euphemistic way of putting it: maybe if you made a non-s***** app without those adwares and not running in the background slowing down my phone maybe I would consider paying or donating, its free market capitalism, not welfare.
Also there are even purchased apps that come with adwares and sometime there is no paid option. I do understand Google list the permission before you download the app and since it's free its my choice if I want to download it or not, fine, but it is not always transparent for the consumer, for example apps do not list the type of adwares installed. Until the Congress say it's illegal to use ads blocking I will continue to use it.

ads is everywhere, I got a headache when watching this ads.
Make sure to download the newest version if it via either Google play store or their website. They recently moved locations.
As for aware there exists an app that customizes that permissions an app installed on Android may have. You can use that to create a custom install for, say Angry birds, where it no longer allows it access to location or to the Internet which would defeat aware that tracts you or downloads new "harmful" features.
I cannot remember the name of the app offhand. If someone could help I would appreciate it.

AdFree Android
Titanium backup, buy the FULL version, when you restore apps, its automated, with free version you got to click yes or ok a few times each app, if you have 70 apps, its really annoying!

+1 for ad-free...BUT with the release of the paid versions of Angry Birds it's not as important as it was to me, but still great for being able to put the Flash add-on to "always on" and not have to worry about Flash ads in the browser.

Great thread for us first time rooters//android users!
Thanks for the recommendations.
Anyone had trouble getting titanium backup to work? I granted it su permissions but it says 'Failed' to acquire root when the app starts.

It's an issue with superuser and the new version of sense. There's a fix for it somewhere here, I saw the link last night in the developer subforum

Very true, although I kinda hate killing ads in free apps. I prefer paid versions so we can be ad free and support the developer at the same time.. Angry Birds was an exception because I always get distracted by the darn ads being in the same area as the target.

You also need to be sure you are using the latest version of busybox for TitaniumBackUP....select the problems tab. Should give you the option to update busybox.

I can't believe no one has mentioned ROM Manager yet. You'll need it when custom ROMs come out.
There is a new update to the HBO go app - still does not play video on our phone - but more importantly the new update is requesting super user permissions!
Not sure why yet, just want to pass out heads up and for anyone noob who has rooted who does not fully understand what that means in LINUX just warn
Don't allow anything or any app super user permission (root permission) if you don't know what it is doing!

It finally works on the international SGS2 after the update. Before you'd get audio and a giant pause button where the video should be. It doesn't ask for superuser rights on my phone after the update.
Ok so i had this app installed. i dont remember what i did but it wasnt in my appdrawer or didnt show up in any other apps,, just as its not installed on my phone. i downloaded it again and tried to install it but it said "Replace application" (the typical message you get when an app is already installed,, tho it wasnt installed) so i press "Ok" and "Install" but then it says "Application not installed" what should i do to fix this? where can i find the remains of this app? someone please look into this.
Hey man I would not post questions like that on this forum as that app is considered warez!!!!
Agree the app is a warez theft ware app discussion of such is banned on XDA for good reasons .
Theft from XDA developers and other developers is not something users should partake in .

I had a feeling that someone would say that lol but if you see, my question is not about cracking some app or having problems with cracking or anything even close to all that. my issue is not being able to install a certain app. its a technical question if you look at it that way.. that app "xyz" isnt installed but when i try to install it, my "android" system tells me that it is installed. and when i try to restore that app using titanium backup, it just gets stuck doing nothing. just forget what app i told you it was, give me a solution to the issue regardless of what app it is please.. thankyou
Warez discussion is against the rules.
PM me if you aren't talking about warez and I will unlock the thread.
