This app Renames the SU Binary So you basically loose root acces till you rename it back within the app!
By you doing this, you have the ability to use Google Videos also the Blockbuster apps on android.
keywords: google videos, blockbuster, root blockbuster mod, su, superuser, google vidoes for root

I was able to rent, and watch a movie on my rooted NC. I followed this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15620050&postcount=175
instead of bin I typed in xbin.

So the takeaway from this is that Google Movies is looking for SU by name and renaming it MU (or just about anything else) gets around the "root" check.
Cool. Does this allow the Movies section in Google Market to show up?
From what I've read, yes it is looking for SU by name. You're root apps no longer work while in MU, just an fyi.
I don't have the new market on my NC any longer. I reverted to the older version. I rented the movie from my DROID with the new market. Opened the google videos app on my NC, linked to my gmail, and the movie was there ready for viewing.

I know it isn't an App (I'll work on that later) but here is a script you can run from a Terminal Emulator.
Just download the script to the root of your SDcard and then run this in Terminal:
Code:
sh /sdcard/googlevideo.sh
It'll Autodetect where SU is and whether you're running the script as Root or not. If you aren't Root it'll inform you whether you need to run "su" or "mu" to get Root. Once Run as Root it'll automatically rename SU as needed.
Download the Script here: http://db.tt/nNy1jCy
I started a topic for the script. If you have any questions ask there.

Hello,
Yesterday i've downloaded an app called "Appy Geek". It's a news reader, "articles from the best tech blogs and website around the world".
After install, i was adding some articles in favorite and a SuperUser popup appears.
"Appy Geek" ask for root? WTF?!
my reaction: Wanna root? not gonna have it!
I have looked in the permission of the app and it's not said that this app requiers root.
So I want to ask if it's possible to hide this or not write it in the Manifest.permission? Do you think that the app is infected (virus, worm, malware, ...)? Or the dev messed up? Or a bug with SuperUser or the ROM?
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Thx.
PS: I've downloaded the app on the official market.

You can simply deny it SU access. What did the developer say?

I deny it SU acces. I didin't know that an app ca requieres SU permission without any mention in the Permission warning in the Market.
The dev didn't answer...
There is a new update to the HBO go app - still does not play video on our phone - but more importantly the new update is requesting super user permissions!
Not sure why yet, just want to pass out heads up and for anyone noob who has rooted who does not fully understand what that means in LINUX just warn
Don't allow anything or any app super user permission (root permission) if you don't know what it is doing!

I opened it and saw the request for root permission. I hit DENY and then it still went to the main page, I was able to open and play the last video I started watching. I am on CM7 and the video and audio ARE WORKING.

It finally works on the international SGS2 after the update. Before you'd get audio and a giant pause button where the video should be. It doesn't ask for superuser rights on my phone after the update.
Hi all,
I had a rooted device and I installed an app from market that requires no permission. However, this app needs root access. Would it mean that this app might change its permissions if it was granted the root access without I know about it?!
In other words, how much dangerous to grant root access to an app?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
As far as I know if the app is well known or provides sufficient information about its usage, its completely safe to grant root access.
Warning: it's better you Google about the app before installing for your safety.

I think it's save too, but check the reviews in the market, there can you find a lot of information

Thank you.
The app is droidwall. I need it to stop some other apps from having internet access (firewall). Reviews at market are positive.
Just wanted to know if a root-access app can do something I don't know about.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Giving root access to Droidwall is safe.
Yes, Droidwall is safe, check it myslelf. This however is the good example of using root access.
Generally to give root access you need to trust this app completely knowing that it can use and abuse practically anything on your device. There is nothing more powerfull than the root .
I am checking apps and roms for security issues myslef so if you wonder if anything is safe or not I would be happy to check and advise
