there are option for ext 256,512,1024,2048mb which shoud i choose for parttion ?
choose the size that you want to use as ext partition ... (But remember your pc doesn't detect the partition formatted as ext so it is better to use half/less as ext and remaing as sdcard so you can backup roms/apps as well as install zip files later when needed.. )
It also depends on how much memory you will be able to use as internal memory..

I am using openOptimus build 2.202.1 with 2 GB sdcard, which is partitioned as
MBR 1 block
FAT32 1.36GB
disk1s2 Linux Ext2FS 487.57 MB
and now i wish to upgrade to 4GB sdcard. How can i do it unambiguously?
From things i know, in Windows Mobile and Symbian systems, changing memory card does not make trouble. Also i think you should copy all your data to some folder on desktop, make Partition Copy of sdcard then start changing process (copying data).
I've changed 2GB card to 8GB card (soon to 16GB) and my android does not seem to notice that change. (just more free placoe)
You can also copy data from previous, insert new into android, let it meet your new sdcard, then put it out and copy rest of data..
This is what i did :
1. first partitioned the new sdcard from recovery
2. copied the contents by mounting usb storage.
up and going. thanks .
If you have a2sd ext partition you should make a nand backup on your 2gb card to backup ext partition, then you copy all contents to your 4gb card and restore nand.
16GB SD can change with internal storage ?can someone showme where the tutorial?THX!
i just bought a 16gb sd card, anyone help me find where the tutorial ?

help pls ,,,,,
I have no idea what the question is.
i guess he meant he want to move apps to his sd card ..
1.download link2sd from market
2.copy paste all your sd card files to your computer ( this will format your sd card )
3.reboot to cwm
4.go advance
5.go partition sd card
6.choose your size ( i choose 1024 mb dun go 256mb too little )
7.linux swap 0 mb
9.wait ( quite long about 5mins )
10.done
11.reboot
12.enter link2sd
13. pick ext 3.
14.reboot
15. you can now send apps to sd
The easy way to do it is format it with clockworkmod, it will create an EXT partition and a swap along with the standard FAT partition.
I preferred to use commandline parted and shell fu, but there is also gparted linux liveCD or windows tools like Easeus or Minitool.
Then use link2sd to "link" apps to use the ext partition. Your ROM may already have a2sd, in which case app2sd app is a GUI to control that, or for CM you can use S2E as well
-Download 'Forece2SD' .apk file
Note: This will only work if you are rooted
If you thought My comment was gelpful, Gimme a one-up!
@kabir: force2sd doesn't appear to handle or reformat an EXT partition. There are significant issues with running apks from the FAT sdcard partition (app break on boot, disappear when using usb storage, possibly lower performance due to all the virtual mountpoints), and I think link2sd is better than force2sd because of that.
Can you really use EXT partition of SD card as internal memory ??
he mean swap right? so the main selected memory would be sd card.
i have made a tutorial
go and read it
thx you eraser0
but ur ways is too many steps to follow and it is just linked , have any idea same with this ..? , just flash with CWM and the partition changed ...lol..
Example ~http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161557
I agree.
The only purpose of suggesting force2sd was its simplicity, and I can't think of a simpler way of freeing up space.
Also, the partition. basically, all we're doing is fooling system to believe that it has more memory than it actually does.

Hi,
I recently bought a Sandisk 32GB Class 4 Micro SD card for my ST15i on ICS. I'm planning to move/link non system-related apps to it and store all my videos, music and pics into it. I've come across several threads regarding the issue at hand and this raised several questions:
1.) Is it advisable to partition it? If so, how and what would be the best method?
2.) How should I divide the space and what format should I use (FAT32, ext, etc)? Any rule I should follow?
3.) Lastly, which is better: link or to move apps using Link2SD or App2SD?
Thanks in advance.
1-yes, it's okay.
Download mini tool partition - Home edition
2- Fat for 2GB
Fat32 for 4GB or Above-----u should use Fat 32
if u partition the SD card ext size must be
128mb
256mb
512mb
1024mb ---don't use than 1024mb
3- I think link2sd is better, but app2sd also good.
What he ^ said. But to make a few adds,
You format the whole sd card as fat 32, and set a high cluster size value. Then create ext partition which can be made in fat32, ext2 or ext3 (ext3 is said to be best)
You can also partition the sd card from cwn recovery (remember it will wipe all data on card).
Linking is better because it moves a larger number of info onto the sd card, i use link2sd which is very simple and efficient. Nonetheless when linking most backup apps except titanium will not be able to follow the simlink to the apk (i think mbackup also just solved this issue but i'm not sure), but they will backup the app data.
Also be sure to tweak your sd card speed in case you havent already done that. A 1024 read ahed value should be the best option for your class

Thanks for the input, guys. I'm getting a clearer picture on what I should do with my new external storage. Now, let me ask a few more questions:
a.) Any particular reason why I should use ext3? Shouldn't the partition be both FAT32's?
b.) If I do use ext3, what would be the reason? Any advantage over FAT32? Also, is ext4 better?
b.) What should be the ratio when I partition my card? Ex. 50:50, 75:25, etc.
Again, thanks. I'll be doing my own research on the topic while I'm away.
1- u can use fat32 too. But ext 2,3,4 are better. If the rom support u can use ext 3 or 4..
2- ext3 is better than ext2 (correct me if i wrong)..yeah use ext4
3- for ext - 1024mb is enough
for ur swap 128
sd card should be fat32

As above guy said, use cwm
hmmm...the safest format when you want to partitions your SD card is FAT/FAT32....EXT2/EXT3/EXT4 is good but depend on your kernel...you your using custom kernel then those format wont be any problem to your phone....
here is the best way to partition your 32Gb SD card....
for your main storage/primary = FAT32
for your 2nd partition/primary = EXT2/EXT3/EXT4
for linux swap = you dont need this partitions so its an option....
Size for your main storage = the remaining size after you have partition it
Size for your 2nd partition = 1024mb (do not go beyond this size)
Size for Swap (option) = 100mb....

Yeah,
I've went ahead and formatted my SD card into one FAT32 and one ext3 partition (still thinking about ext3, though). I've linked my apps to the ext3 partition. I've managed to free up about 100mb+ in internal storage space. Time to clean up my system ROM, let's see how much free space I can get.
Thanks to Pusak Gaoq, bandarigoda123 and Rudjgaard. You've all been great.
Haha, no problem bro.
Hi guys!
I have really particular question, which I have not found any answer to. I have my microSD card partitioned and I did backup of the system with CWM, but I have marked sd-ext option too. Now I have few questions:
1) So when I will format my microSD card and don't create new partition, then recover my earlier done backup of my system and sd-ext through CWM , will second partition (ext4) will also be recreated? or I should re-partition my microSD and then recover my sd-ext files through CMW?
2) When re-partition is needed, can I choose create ext2 and recover my sd-ext data which was on ext4? is it possible?
3) When I know that my backed up files on second partition was for example 4GB, and I still had 6GB free space (both give 10GB in total), can I shrink my newly created second partition to 8GB in total, and leaving 4 GB free space instead of 6GB before. Will it affect recovered through CWM files?
4) And lastly I would like to know when I copy microSD files to computer, files are only those from first FAT32 partition? When I wipe my microSD and copy these files back to microSD, I assume all my ext4 (second partition) files are lost? and then, all linked apps through link2sd will be broken (deleted?)? There is only one option to backup them and is it through CWM recovery with "sd-ext" option? or is there anything else?
I have just installed LOS 14.1 on my GTi9100. Before I started the install I partitioned my SD card with a 5GB Fat32 partition and a 3GB partition with no file type which my previous rooted system required to extend internal memory.
When Lineage installed it repartitioned the SD card and now I have a card with 6MB Fat32 partition and a 29GB partition of unknown type which cannot be used for external storage. I removed the card and tried to repartition using Mini Partition Tools but I cannot resize or change the 29GB partition.
As I have no external storage I cant install your fix for addons file or anything else. I cant use it for camera image storage either.
In TWRP if I select re-partition it says I will lose all data and I don't know if I should do that?
Don't know if this still is relevant. But yes, almost every storage issue (for example not accessible, not visible) I had in my past only got fixed by a full wipe. I don't know all those tools existing out there for data recovery, but if you have a more or less recent backup it isn't that painful to wipe everything.
