Linked apps, sd-ext (second partition) and backing it up with CWM - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
I have really particular question, which I have not found any answer to. I have my microSD card partitioned and I did backup of the system with CWM, but I have marked sd-ext option too. Now I have few questions:
1) So when I will format my microSD card and don't create new partition, then recover my earlier done backup of my system and sd-ext through CWM , will second partition (ext4) will also be recreated? or I should re-partition my microSD and then recover my sd-ext files through CMW?
2) When re-partition is needed, can I choose create ext2 and recover my sd-ext data which was on ext4? is it possible?
3) When I know that my backed up files on second partition was for example 4GB, and I still had 6GB free space (both give 10GB in total), can I shrink my newly created second partition to 8GB in total, and leaving 4 GB free space instead of 6GB before. Will it affect recovered through CWM files?
4) And lastly I would like to know when I copy microSD files to computer, files are only those from first FAT32 partition? When I wipe my microSD and copy these files back to microSD, I assume all my ext4 (second partition) files are lost? and then, all linked apps through link2sd will be broken (deleted?)? There is only one option to backup them and is it through CWM recovery with "sd-ext" option? or is there anything else?

[Q] Installing new micro sdhc card (rom:void delta)

i recently purchased an 8gb micro sdhc card to replace the old 2gb.
i performed copy/paste of files from old card to the new one.
the phone is stuck on LG boot screen when i load the new 8gb card.
im currently running void delta.
appreciate your help.thanks!
If you had an ext4 partition on the old card, you need it on the new one too. Ideally, the data inside the partition should be copied too, otherwise you will lose apps and settings. But simply creating the partition should at least help you boot.
how can i check if there's ext4 on the old card?
how can i copy the data inside the partition?
i think this is the part that i missed.
Well, if you have an ext4 partition on the old card, then your card appears to have only around 1.5 GB capacity instead of 2 GB. This is the simplest test.
Otherwise, you can analyze it with the disk management tool from Windows (right-click My Computer, choose Manage, select Disk Management under Storage). It shows up as "Unknown" in XP, if I remember correctly.
Copying the data from ext4 under Windows is beyond my knowledge. Maybe someone else can help you.
Edit: wait... you can copy data using a nandroid backup! You need a "nandroid + _android_secure + ext" backup, but must have the ext partition already created and the same size as the old one. Create the backup using the old card, copy it on the new card using your PC and then restore.
Edit2: remember, if you're dealing with an ext4 partition, only version 1.2 of the ThunderG custom recovery will succesfully backup and restore your data. The old version 1.1.0 only works with ext2 and ext3.
Noejn himself told (replied actually) in void thread that if someone upgrade memory card, the rom have to be flashed again.
yes, Nandroid backup should work just fine.

[Q] [HELP] upgrading from 2GB sdcard to 4GB when a rom uses a part of it?

I am using openOptimus build 2.202.1 with 2 GB sdcard, which is partitioned as
MBR 1 block
FAT32 1.36GB
disk1s2 Linux Ext2FS 487.57 MB
and now i wish to upgrade to 4GB sdcard. How can i do it unambiguously?
From things i know, in Windows Mobile and Symbian systems, changing memory card does not make trouble. Also i think you should copy all your data to some folder on desktop, make Partition Copy of sdcard then start changing process (copying data).
I've changed 2GB card to 8GB card (soon to 16GB) and my android does not seem to notice that change. (just more free placoe)
You can also copy data from previous, insert new into android, let it meet your new sdcard, then put it out and copy rest of data..
This is what i did :
1. first partitioned the new sdcard from recovery
2. copied the contents by mounting usb storage.
up and going. thanks .
If you have a2sd ext partition you should make a nand backup on your 2gb card to backup ext partition, then you copy all contents to your 4gb card and restore nand.

[Q] Link2SD - Partitioning issues

Still looking for some insight and/or answers on this one...please help if u can!! Thanks!!
Phone details:
Metro PCS LGMS769
Android v 4.1.2
ROM LGMS769e (stock)
I have finally partitioned my SD card (16GB) successfully using MiniTool Partition Wizard tool. I created two FAT 32 partions (G=11.75GB DATA and *.=2.87 APPS). I had problems when creating an EXT2 partition...Link2SD wouldn't recognize it or mount the card.
Was able to successfully mount the card after creating 2 FAT32 partitions so I went with that for now. Several questions though...
1) I was unable to actually move to SDcard using "native App2SD method" with an error telling me that App2SD not supported by my device because it has a primary external storage which is emulated from the internal storage. Instead had to link the app in order to move its files to the card. What does this mean and why can't I physically move? Also, what is actually happening when I create links?
2) Apps appeared to be on the external card afterward when I went to System/storage and reviewed space usage. I could not, however tell whether they were on the DATA or the APPS partition from File Manager OR after taking the card out and looking at it from my PC. There were a couple of l directories created (LGBackup and LOST.DIR) but all appeared to be empty. WHY?
3) After dismounting and taking the card out to explore on PC and then putting card back in the phone it was remounted automatically however all apps are now taking up space on my internal drive and external storage is completely. Also, all my home screen widget configs are empty with all listed under "APPS" utility. Can anyone explain what's going on and how to correct?
THANKS!!

Dan,
I don't think Windows would recognize a Linux partition...which is what EXT is. That's why u can't move data to that partition at this time. MiniTool doesn't even SEE your EXT partition?? If that's the case how do u know it's an EXT partition in the first place? Perhaps u could post an image of the MiniTool screen? If it CAN see the partition I would delete it and recreate it with at least a portion being FAT32.

jakman: Because when I Partitioned my 32GB SD Card I was reading a XDA thread that said to Partition it using Ext4 as being the best Partition to use. When I look at Minitool it shows the Partitions that says Disk 8 read only ( Capacity 5.00GB for 1st partition and 24.72FGB for 2nd partition, used GB's then under File System Ext4 for both partitions, Type Primary both partitions, Status None. ). When I Hi-Light partition-1 it comes up on the left side with Actions and Wizards. Under Wizards the Choices are Copy Partition Wizard, Copy Disk Wizard, Partition Recovery Wizard. No other Choices the task bar at the top is grayed out. When I Hi-Light one of the other drives it adds a whole bunch of choices like Format Partition - Show Partition Properties and other actions that I can take Etc. I tried Partition Recovery Wizard it just tells me what files that can be recoverd. the Delete Icon is Missing. So there is no way i can delete the partitions and choose FAT 16/32 File System. When I first Partitioned the card Ext2, Ext3, Ext4, Fat 16, & Fat 32 were the File Systems offered. So do you Know of another Partition App that might enable me to Delete the partition and set the File System to Fat 32 thats FREE or doesn't Cost to Much as I'm on a fixed Income. Ive search the Forums but no body seems to have had this problem in the past or they found a solution else where and didn't post there Solution. Thanks I hope maybe you or some on else might know of a solution and help me as I don't want to have to buy another 32GB SD Card. Dan Mericle Sr danvidman
can you use minitool partition wizard to recovery your 32gb card? You can use the function Recovery Partition to scan card. have you set the partition to primary after change its files system? maybe this is main reason why it cant be recognized.

Non usable SD Card

I have just installed LOS 14.1 on my GTi9100. Before I started the install I partitioned my SD card with a 5GB Fat32 partition and a 3GB partition with no file type which my previous rooted system required to extend internal memory.
When Lineage installed it repartitioned the SD card and now I have a card with 6MB Fat32 partition and a 29GB partition of unknown type which cannot be used for external storage. I removed the card and tried to repartition using Mini Partition Tools but I cannot resize or change the 29GB partition.
As I have no external storage I cant install your fix for addons file or anything else. I cant use it for camera image storage either.
In TWRP if I select re-partition it says I will lose all data and I don't know if I should do that?
Don't know if this still is relevant. But yes, almost every storage issue (for example not accessible, not visible) I had in my past only got fixed by a full wipe. I don't know all those tools existing out there for data recovery, but if you have a more or less recent backup it isn't that painful to wipe everything.

internal memory partition - Titanium backup

Hello,
I am trying to partition the internal storage to have a safe partition that will hold titanium backup files while formatting data in twrp (my device is encrypted and for every update I have to format data).
Is there an app to format internal storage? (I found a lot for SD card but not for internal storage)
Thanks for the help
Hello, I think I found a solution, parted
https://iwf1.com/how-to-re-partitio...ll-options-included-change-size-fs-type-etc/2
I will try to split my 256 gig internal storage into a backup partition of let's say 10gig abd leave the other 246 for data.
Will try it over the weekend
