Taking too much time to charge - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently my gs2 is taking too much time to charge up. Yesterday from 10% to 85% took abt 5 to 6 hours. Previously it would do it to 100% in abt 3 hours.
Anyone else having this problem?

are you using it while charging?
i always turn of my s2 when charging, and it always takes me ~3h from about 15 to 100%

If you overcharge several times you will frye the battery. If you got root try BatteryCalibration http://market.android.com/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration

Mine has never taken more than 3 hours from 0% to 100%, sounds like you need to calibrate the battery.

mine used to be like that but now for last three charges its taking that long.
How do you calibrate the battery?

Didnt think it was required as the batterystats.bin is regenerated at 100% charge.... I was told to calibrate by charging full while on then switch off and charge again to full, then on to full then use normally

How do you charge battery.. using charger or using USB port on computer? By some rule, if device sense data connection on USB it switch to 500maH charging levels. If there is not any data connection, it will charge as much as it can.

I use the main charger, very rarely i charge my phone using usb port.
today it took 4 hours to charge from 15% to 60%. then i disconnected it and downloaded a battery widget from the market and connected it again to the charger and it took abt 1.5h to 2h to charge from 55% to 100%. at the moments it looks ok. i will see how it goes on my next charge.

[Q] Battery discharging.

Hi,
My battery seems to discharge while charging. It will never reach full charged(100%). When it hit 94% or so, it will start to discharge. Both charging thru USB or wall plug give the same result. Anyone encounter such problem and found a solution? Please share with me.
If i remember correctly the battery should charge to 100% then discharge itself to 90% then recharge so you don't overload it
Maybe it was discharging to 94% when you saw it

+1. It's normal.

Nope, that is definitely not the case. It was charging right infront of me, it never reach 96% let alone 100%.
The strange thing is that sometime it does charge to 100% and the green LED went off. This occurrence is like once in every 10 charges or so.
I had the same problem, I returnedit to my carrier and they gave meanother one. This one doesn't have that problem but mine has WiFi and Bluetooth issues now. I suggest you talk to your carrier

[Q] Battery Charge time

Guys my SGS2 is taking around 4+ hrs to charge from around 5% left. Is this normal.?
Yep takes 4 hours here too

What's the rated output on the wall charger?
I think this is by design as the phone already gets extremely hot when pushing the CPU (gaming etc).
I believe this can eventually be changed with custom rom/kernel.

5v @ 0.7A, by the looks of it this is normal.
thanks for responce peps. Never had a phone that took so long to charge.! Normally about an hour which is why i thought i may have had a problem with the handset.!
S2 stock Optus KE2 with it remained turned on with wifi, email checking etc using Energizer XP8000 battery as power source for charge went from 24% reminaing to 100% charged in ~2hrs. S2 internally seems to limit it to <700mah charge rate.
Find a Iphone4 charger or something similar it will give you 5v @ 1.0A, charges quite a bit faster, I use that at work then the slow .7 at home.
my XP8000 charges at 1000mah but S2 will limit it to 700mah
I think you could charge the battery alone in a dock. There it should load with the full 5V and 1ah..

Ah forgot about that. But it's kind of pain removing that battery cover.

Anywhere you can back this up? I seem to have faster results using a 1.0 vs .7, showing that it is getting more power.
It's been mentioned a few times across various forums. But i'm just going by my experience.
It also takes me around 4 hours to fully charge from below 5% battery. However, if I turn the phone off whilst it charges, goes slightly quicker. Obviously.
Hi,
I think the recharging time is quiet normal for such a phone (and battery).
I had to charge the battery of a friend's phone these days with my notebook.
And it took some hours from 30%. (HTC DHD)
About the same for my SGSII.
I think thats normal.
what would we do without electricity?
Dead phone that is fully discharged battery phone off stock charger to 100%
sub 3 hours .
jje
Changed handset yesterday. today charged new phone from 5% and it took 3hrs 4mins. So it looks like i may have had either a dodgy charger or batt.
I am charging with supplied charger(5V / 0.7A) ...
During the charging I turn off my phone but the charging time is still 3-4h -.-

[Q] Battery Fully Charged Notifications?

Does Galaxy Ace shows a notification when battery is fully charged ? Yesterday I got a new Ace, I kept it for charging for around 3-4hrs.. The battery indicator shows the battery full, but notification on the homescreen(when its locked) showed its charging..
How am I suppose to understand its fully charged..?
Yes, normally a notification should appear when the battery is fully charged!
How much hours does it take to fully charge if the battery is around 5%?
The battery isn't fully charged until you don't get a notification (both sound and green icon on the top-left corner). That's even if you see the indicator showing 100%
Wow..my battery is still blue.. in the right hand corner.. How long does it takes to fully charge?
Depending on ROM / mods, your battery icon may look different. But a notification should show up after around 3 hours.

Well that depends, wether you're charging via USB or the wall-charger (I don't really know the name of that thing xD )
USB charging requires more time, I've tried and it took me about 4-5 hours to full charge the phone.
Tapatalked from my Noirette III
Ok..Last nite... I charged for 3-4 hrs.. but didnt get any notification..maybe I will try it today..Is it ok to leave it on charge over-nite? Maybe 6-7 hrs after a full deplete..?
Have you tried to reflash your ROM? There's maybe something wrong within the kernel.
And about charging overnight... I doubt that's a safe thing to do..
Used to charge my old phone overnight everytime and now it's battery depleted within 4 hours after a full charge.
Tapatalked from my Noirette III
well, certainly not on froyo. probably only ginger has it in-built-i get it on galaxy s (ginger) but not on Ace (froyo).
Hey!
You can charge it over night. And it shows notification in home screen CHARGED!
CHEERS!
@rhadrio I havent re flashed it..just got it yesterday.
I guess the battery nowadays have no -ve effect, if we over charge them.. ? Any one can confirm this?

Of course its NOT good, if you OVER CHARGE it every time. And for correcting battery stats, you need to calibrate it(you must be ROOTED, before use BATTERY CALIBRATOR[free from MARKET]). But still I suggest to use it(BATTERY CALIBRATOR) only if you get too fastley drain you battery(I mean, if you see that you battery getting worst or similar).
CHEERS!
I haven't rooted it yet. I will charge it overnite today & lets see if its works better tomorrow..
Batteries now have built-in overcharging prevention. No worries.
XDA ♥
Well.. I kept it over nite.. In the morning I saw a notification on the phone as "Charged", but I am not sure how many hours did it take to charge it.
I dont know about battery issue aftr overnight charging.....but i used to charge my 5800 overnight daily, i used 2 and hlf years but nothing happend to batry or batry back up...
and if u charge yor ACE with AC charger it will take min 4 hours as our chargers are 0.7A
and if u charge with USB ur cell will get completly charged in half time compared to AC charger

...nope! usb is 500 mA (0.5 A) max - in best case, depending on mode etc. so AC charger is faster as it's 0.7 A. max 3-4 hrs here on ac.

Battery drains out from 10% to 1%(OFF) in a minute

Battery drains out from 10% to 1% and (OFF) in a minute, yes one minute...
Any one has the same problem?, is this normal?.
I noticed it does not happen every time, what could possibly cause the problem?.
Thanks
Hello,
You should try recalibrate your battery. To do that :
- Discharge your phone and let it turns off itself
- Power it on and wait that it switches off
- Charge your phone when it's off during 8 hours
Good luck !
and after you fully load your battery go into recovery and wipe the battery stats and charge it up again

I've seen a similar behaviour on many other Android devices. IMHO you can consider 10% Battery as almost Zero - you just shouldn't let it run that low.
I have noticed one thing, when phone is charched with charger battery life time is around 5 days.
When i charge phone over computer, two and half day is max of battery duration??
Anyone else noticed that?

It's always been the case, using the wall socket will give better battery life compared to using the pc.

Same thing for the car adapter. Weird phenomenon that cannot be explained from a scientific point of view, but it's my own experience.
Havn't noticed that with my neo, however I never have my phone below 20% for too long, have a charger in my travel bag, 1 in the car and 1 at home, always a cable to plug in nearby.

This is probably because USB port in PC is limited to 5 volts and that means that the charging will be slower and not so efficien.t probably same thing with car adapter.

PC usb = 500mA & 5V
Wall charger = 1A & 5V
Some PC motherboards had specially made some USBs ports for charging. There is output ~800mA. Read your pc manual.
There is differents.

Time the Note II takes to recharge

How long should our Note II take to recharge from 0% to 100%? Problem with practically all Android phones is that it just takes way too long to recharge. Last night I plugged my Note at about 1AM, depleted all the way down. When I woke up at 7AM, it was still at 70%. Does that sound about right for everyone? I understand that we have a huge battery capacity but the limitation with the microUSB port is definitely there.
no something is not right...my device recharges in 2.5hrs from below 10% to 100%
You using an outlet or CPU?
if CPU, are you directly connecting to a USB port or a hub?
My cpu charges so slowly compared to an outlet.
I'm plugged into the wall using the provided OEM charger.

You tried different outlets?
I would turn the phone off, try dif outlet, try charging it, see if it is any better.
If no, probably something hardware related.
if yes, probably something you have installed then i would just restart from stock.
It takes me about 2-3 hours with the oem charger.

I've been having this problem too, and I can't really pin it down. I'm using the charger that comes with the S3,which is only rated at 1amp so I know that's the biggest factor. However, sometimes it charges to full in a few hours, other times after a night on the charger it will have only made it to 60% or so. The real stumper is that it only tends to drain about 1-2% an hour in deep sleep, so it's not like it's draining faster than the charger can keep up. It seems completely random. I'm ordering a 2amp charger to see if it helps, im sure it will, but I'm just confused by the random nature of this.
Yea something is definitely wrong. Mine charges in about 2.5 hours from near 0%. Try a different outlet

I use the cable the phone came with and I can go from 2% battery life to 100% in about 3 hours. Hella fast, luv it.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
Yeah about 2-3 hours is my usual charge time from 20% to 0% range respectively.
I still can't help but feel that that is somehow slow though. Can't tell, it's been so long since I had a small battery I don't know what a fast charge is nowadays.
Going from zero is way different than going from 1% the battery tries to protect itself so it trickle charges for a while. Honestly going from 10-100 should not take more than three hours probably closer to two

Mine seems like it takes about 2 hours maybe even less from 15%

not sure if this helps, but do you have light manager installed? I had an issue when I first downloaded it and set it up, that night when I went to charge it it would charge VERY SLOW...I finally isolated the issue to light manager....I uninstalled it and reinstalled and it has been fine ever since. The Note 2 for me now charges faster than any device I have ever had.

Hi,
This is what I have found. Sometimes when the microusb end is plugged into the phone that the phone charges at usb rate instead of ac which is wall outlet. I only have this problem with a standard usb cable in the car. Will change it soon but. What you can do after you plug in the microusb into the phone goto settings then battery and see how the phone sees the charging its getting. It will say either usb or ac. Ac is full charge rate usb is much slower since usb like off a pc or laptop has a lower output to your phone.
If you see it takes more than 3 hours to charge your phone and it says ac in settings then you definitely have a problem with either the charger, usb cable or phone.
Thanks,
Bryan
If you're using the cable and charger that came with the phone, you have a problem. Based on what you reported, I'd say you're using a 1A or less charger.
