[Q] Firmware fail. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Today I've tried to re-install Android 2.3.4 Kernel KG1 on Samsung Galaxy S2 because of some weird issues on my phone.
I just wan't to give my phone a clean up.
I'm still kinda new with Android.
I wan't it to install the 2.3.4 via Odin on my Galaxy s2, unfortunately it failed.
I get this particular message on my screen.
(Big) Phone..(Yellow Triangle with Explenation mark)..Computer screen.
Underneath it sais,
''Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again''
It doesn't detect my phone on Kies even though I've already installed Samsung's USB drivers.
I need help with this, does somebody knows the solution.
Sidenote, I can still access Download Mode
Kind regards.
*** (UPDATE)*** I've installed the stock KG1 kernel again via Donwload mode, The (Firmware fail logo and message) is gone only now my phone is stuck at the bootup with a yellow triangle and explenation mark underneath the Samsung Galaxy SII boot logo and it won't boot up. (I cant acces Recovery Mode but I still can enter Download mode

Because installing a new firmware Fails all the time.
I installed the same Firmware via Odin, but it won't go further. I see FACTORYFS (or something) wait for like 1 or 2 minutes till i see a glimpse of the green progress bar and BAM! out of nowhere it is telling me, FAIL (RED).
I really need a solution.

Are you using the Samsung data cable, have you tried different USB ports on the pc, have you tried a different PC

I really need some help out here people.

It didn't work.
There must be a solution because I'm still able to enter Download mode.
I just don't know where to look, I'm searching Google of etc but I just can't seem to find a solution.

Simliar Issue
Hi,
I believe I have a similar issue. I just rooted for my first time using Odin and SuperOneclick. Everything seemed to go as planned, but now I can't connect to anything. I am wondering if this might be because I need to change another setting? I was searching the forums for a similar issue and this seems to be a hard search to find results for. Seems like most of the rooting has been done in the EU so far on this phone.
Issue: No service, No Data, Wifi Does not Work.

Perhaps installing a new firmware (Android 2.3.4 KG1) would solve this issue.
You got modem problems, and by installing a new firmware via Odin you will replace your current Firmware/Kernel with a brand new one.
I think this is the solution.
You should give it a try.

Thanks for the response =)
I went ahead and tried to install GT-I9100_XWKG1_insecure. Still no 3G, network service or Wifi.
I agree, I think its the firmware. I guess the next step is to figure out the exact firmware needed for the Sprint US version.
I might give a few more a try from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671

I may be way stupid, but I didn't think there even was an SGS2 on Sprint/CDMA? I wonder if you are flashing SGS2 FW on the new Epic 4G Touch (is that it's name?....the 4.5" one?)> I think that is verboten.

Actually, I think your right. They are calling it the "Samsung Galaxy S II, Epic 4G Touch." I guess it would make sense that the firmware for the similar versions might not work on this one. Crap. So now I have the wrong firmware installed, makes sense.
I have to catch a flight tomorrow afternoon. I might have to return it if I can't figure out what firmware to get. I am read posts where people say they are working on a version, but I still can't figure out what the original kernel version was.
Thanks for the reply.

Be careful. If you return it in that condition they might void your warranty because you flashed the FW. I would try posting in the correct forum for the Epic. I was just in the Epic forum and yes people are saying flashing SGS2 FW will brick the Epic. I think I read yesterday that the Epic isn't even flashable yet too??

[Q] ODIN fails using set methods & files

YES I SEARCHED!!! lol. and spent hours on this already!
- phone won't boot, sticks at the yellow triangle saying I-9500 (i have I777). i have previously been able to get into download mode, reflash kernal.tar, and then boot up for CWM access. i cannot access CWM now, only DL mode. and now kernal.tar (the same one used successfully before) fails.
i can connect with ODIN 1.85 at COM5. but last attempt to reboot it stuck again and now ODIN FAILS using the same process i used before with success.
i have tried other kernals in tar format using ODIN, no dice. if i try to boot now, i get the dreaded "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". Kies will not connect using all the lastest files & drivers, and it cannot troubleshoot the connection.
i need something i can use in ODIN to reset this and get into CWM. can anyone help? PLEASE? obviously i'm happy to provide more info if something would be helpful. TIA guys... man do i feel like a moron.

I sure hope this is a typo? Does it actually say I-9500?
You may need to flash the complete UCKH7 back to stock package including bootloaders. You don't say what got you into this problem. What did you flash, and could it have included bootloaders for a different phone?

i downloaded a Mystic ROM, but instead of downloading it via my laptop i used Tapatalk... i'm not sure that i was browsing the wrong forum.. but it's possible. what's done is done. never had any problem until now, oh well.
i never had the triangle until then. but now, or at least as of earlier today, i did. as i remember it, it said I-9500, but i can no longer boot, so i can't get there to verify. in ODIN, right now in DL mode, it says PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I777. but only in ODIN. will i need a jig for this? if so i have to act right away. it's just strange that i can get into ODIN like before and it connects, but now it fails with the same kernel files it succeeded with before. i would skip ODIN entirely, but the issues began with losing access to CWM, so that appeared to be my only option.
man i've been so careful until now. didn't even realize i was risking anything. ugh.
If Odin recognizes your phone, you should be able to flash the stock firmware. You don't need a jig (except for possibly reseting the flash counter) if you can still get into download mode using vol- & vol+ & plug in usb cable. Get the I777UCKH7-CL503881 Stock Binaries from the Download Repository. You can use the one-click downloader version for simplicity (or the .tar.md5 version in your copy of odin.)
Once you're stock, you'll need to root and install CWM recovery.
thanks very much y'all.

I'd be astonished if anyone here actually called you on the phone. You need to absorb some of the great material here, and get a basic understanding of the technology your phone uses, or you shouldn't be trying to flash firmware onto your phone.
That being said, this is not the first thread you have posted in, but here is as good a place as any. Please describe your problem in minute detail. Leave nothing out. If you are unable to use your phone currently, I will be glad to help you get it back to working.

Unfortunately, I likely won't be getting any new devices until the nexus comes out. My connection I used to have that allowed me to get devices out of contract for discounts no longer exists. So I wont be buying out of contract devices any time soon.
I refuse to beg for a dev device also.

Galaxy S iii won't boot, stuck on logo screen, can't enter recovery.

I have a rooted Australian Galaxy s iii i9300 running stock android 4.0.4 and Siyah Kernel V.1.5.3, both of which I flashed about 3 weeks ago.
My phone has been running perfectly, last night before going to bed I plugged my phone into the charger as usual. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary with it, I didn't alter any settings or install anything new and it has been weeks since I've flashed anything. I woke up this morning to see my phone stuck on the 'Galaxy S iii' logo screen as if it had automatically rebooted itself during the night and got stuck. I've tried removing the battery and turning it back on several times but it just keeps getting stuck on the logo screen. I can't enter clockwork recovery mod but I can still enter download mode.
Is my phone bricked?
How did this happen when I didn't even do anything?
What should I do?
Should I try re-flashing the stock ics rom?
Re-root
Try re-rooting it with Odin (from Download Mode), then you might be able to go into Recovery Mode.
Have you recently installed any app? Coz there must be a reason for this to happen.
If the above comment does not work, next step would be to order a jig to force it into download mode.

I can't even get into normal recovery mode, so I'm not sure re-rooting will help (I'll still give it a try though). Assuming it does work, what should I do once I get into Clockwork recovery?

Thanks for the reply. Where can I find the 3 part file version of the stock Rom? Can you point me in the direction of a tutorial for flashing 3 part files with Odin? I'm only familiar with flashing a single tar file.
Seems as if this becomes a common problem, since this is like the 1001st thread about a S3 shutting down while on charge and not being able to reboot.

Really? I did a quick search before posting this, sorry for the repost. Did anyone come up with a solution in previous threads?
I've searched and searched but I still can't find the 3 file firmware. I don't even know what I'm looking for really. Can someone please link me to a 3 part Rom compatible with my phone?
While my search for similar problems before creating this thread yielded very few results, I have since found the other threads Ch0ka was referring to by searching 'There is no PIT partition'. It seems that if flashing a three part file and repartitioning with Odin doesn't work, the general consensus is that I'll have to send it to a service center for repair. Haven't I voided the warranty on my phone by rooting it? will they be able to tell I've rooted it or is it damaged beyond that point? I really can't afford to be paying for repairs right now.
I'm so upset, I still don't understand how my phone could just brick itself overnight! Could someone please give me some advice?

Thanks for replying. My problem is that I don't know what to look for. How do I know which one has 3 files? Which one do I need? Sorry, I know this seems like a stupid question but I've never used a 3 part Rom before, I have no idea what I'm doing. Isn't it really important to use the right PIT file?

I'm downloading the Bell one right now.
Its a zip file so I'm hoping I can install in TWRP, I hate doing the ODIN thing.

nope its a **.tar.md5 file, so I'm guessing it's for ODIN. or maybe installable through Kies ??

Install and use ODIN 3.07
Boot phone into download mode.. Hold volume down and power till it reboots release the power button but keep holding the down volume button till it goes into download mode. then push up volume.
plug in phone to usb, add the rom to the PDA tab in ODIN
click start.
Using unlocked Telus NOTE on the Rogers Network
Hi guys:
Just wondering if I should choose the Rogers image to install on my NOTE. I'm using a Telus NOTE on the Rogers network but it is weird to power it on, only to see the Telus logo pop up...
Do you think it would be okay if I installed the Rogers image on this Telus NOTE? Your help is appreciated!
Regards,
Installed this way (via Odin v3) any/all (including AT&T) will work with any of the modems on Rogers (APNs will differ) with vendor-specific bloatware being the difference.
Via Kies, you could only get the Telus image for your Telus Note.
Thanks... is there an easy way to get a list of the Rogers APNs in case I lose them for some reason. And could you please point me to the thread that explains how to use Odin to install the images? thanks!
All Canadian modems and flashable zip containing the Telus base, rooted & deodexed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1496
Sucks that there's no multi-view..... I thought something simliar happened with the Note 2, and eventually they pushed out multi-view?
Hmmm any ideas when they will push via OTA? I have an i717R (Rogers)
How's the battery life on the rogers build. Ics used to last me over a day. Now mine dies in 4 to 5 hours. When not using the phone it drains 10% an hour. Any idea why?

Look in your phone and compare to here (all Cdn APNs) - http://erictronik2012.blogspot.ca/2012/02/access-point-names-apn-setting-for-bell.html
Recovery mode is easier unless you really want the correct flash screen and then you would need to re-root etc after Odin

Not having any luck trying to use Kies to update the phone to JB 4.1. It has some issues seeing the phone to begin with, then when it does, it goes all the way, the green droid shows up on the phone in ODIN mode, but then it stays there forever followed by an error message on kies... Its almost like the PC can't see the phone anymore.
Anyone know what it could be? Also, I wanted to check, as I reported earlier I'm using a Telus Note SGH-I717D, is it okay for me to install the Rogers image on this (using ODIN). I'm just concerned that the Rogers model is the I717R. Please advise and also advise the procedure for doing this.
I tried using ODIN 3.07 but it didn't seem to like the phone, it would give me a FAIL message in red, when I hit start. Then I downloaded ODIN 1.85 which is apparently the version supported by the SGH-I717D... same thing... FAIL message. What could I be doing wrong?
Thanks!

Maybe a driver issue. I would try reloading the drivers.
Open up Kies (Normal mode), and towards the bottom there is a button for Troubleshooting Connection, or something like that. That should reload your drivers.
Thanks but I tried doing that... The connection to the phone is still kinda flaky (hit and miss... I connect, nothing happens, then I connect again and maybe it'll work)... Maybe I'll try a different pc. I've had connectivity problems with that pc and other devices too.

Install the Rogers image. They are the same hardware so you might as well make it match the carrier you're using.
I'd try a different PC - you don't want to Odin anything with a flakey connection to your device or you could brick it.
Recover method is way easier IMO.
You can put on any i717 Rom you want from any Cdn vendor, AT&T or Custom and it will work; Also all modems seem to work for me on Koodo/Telus.

The battery lfie on the rogers build is fairly nice. I got 7 hours and had 64% with 55minutes screen time on auto. After you install Jelly Bean if you are still having trouble, Check whats draining your battery in the stats. Also try recalibrating your battery (you need root). If you're still having problems your battery health might be very low, try buying a new one.

I need help [urgent] anything appreciated

I need some serious help. I have no idea what's going on. I was coming from CR se 3.1 to Jellybeans 20 so I decided to do a data wipe and clear everything and then my phone wouldn't turn on. I couldn't even access recovery. I gave up and decided to do a clean Odin restore with the root 66 stock system md5 and new pit file but I no longer have a recovery installed. I was going to do the casual root again but my phome will not connect to any computer. When I connect it just charges I don't get a new device found or anything. I tried connect it to another computer too and it just did the same thing. All I need is for my phone to connect to my computer so I can restore it to default, install a recovery/root, and install jelly beans. But nothing is corresponding with me. Please someone help me. I'm really desperate for some help right now. Please. I'm freaking out. I don't know what to do. Anything is appreciated. If there's any way you can pm me so we can chat that would be cool too. I'm just freaking out and have been for the past 4 hours.
When did you root your phone? If you originally used casual on the old baseband then flashed roms on the vramc3 modem you need to update casual to the one that unlocks the new modem. I don't see how you could've bricked the phone like that though. Does anything show up on the screen when you try to boot into recovery?
hmmm did you try doing a full odin back to stock and locked?

The modem has nothing to do with rooting, unlocking, or anything of that nature. I believe you are referring to the firmware version correct?

Sorry guess I don't understand the right names for all of it but yes, the different firmware versions then that casual is based on.

Need help fixing my phone after trying to root for the first time

I've got my old Galaxy s2 and decided to root it, cause if I brick it, It wouldn't matter much. After using Odin to put a kernal on it, it only goes to the startup screen with the warning triangle. I can get it to the CW recovery screen, but it doesn't do anything after making a selection. I'm now stuck and not sure what to do. I'm super new at this, if not obvious.
Odin flash your stock firmware and start again......

Where would I that?
You get the firmware from sammobile dot com Or samsung updates dot com.
Odin can be found on xda and the Samsung USB drivers can be found on here too.
You can get Odin and the drivers here.....

Most of the advice in that thread can be followed even if you don't have any problems with odin flashing.

Took me a little while to finally find a copy of the stock firmware. Flashed it, and now the phone boots up and says,
'gaudiuscc_bootimage.jpg' draw failed
If you flashed 4.0.4 don't try this, but have you tried booting into recovery to do the wipes?
http://i.imgur.com/rVnFwJM.jpg
It has Clock Work on it, but when I make a selection on the recovery screen it doesn't do anything. It goes to a black screen with the CW logo, where the new menu should be. If I hit the power button again it takes me back to the main menu. I can't even shutdown the phone from the recovery screen.
If you flashed a stock firmware then it won't have ClockworkMod recovery on it....
It should be Android 3e recovery.
http://i.imgur.com/rVnFwJM.jpg
I don't know why I thought that it still had Clock Work on it. I've got it to the recovery screen, and it won't let me make a selection. It makes it seem like the power button dosen't work, but if it didn't there would be no way to turn it on.
I don't know why that's happening either, but as a workaround you could try installing the correct PhilZ recovery....They come as zip or tar files....so you can use the tar file with odin.
PhilZ is a touch based recovery, so you don't need to rely on using the buttons.

Flash the full stock firmware of your Galaxy S2. Make sure that you wipe the data too. You can get the stock firmware from Sammobile.com. Make sure that you flash the stock kernel too.

Make sure to flash 4.1.2 too.

Alright, so now the recovery works, even if it wasn't touch enabled. So now I think I'm at the point at which I first tried to root it a while back. I think I installed some wrong firmware. It's the Alltel model (and maybe also the US cellular model), but the AT&T intro plays then freezes. Can I just install a different ROM on it?
What is your Model Number? GT-I9100,GT-I9100G, or what?

Then you should flash the firmware that is only for that model number.

I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Every download link is dead or just not there anymore.
And would I flash it the same way I have with the recovery stuff?
Hmmm dead download links for the Galaxy S2? Sorry but I can't help you if there is no more download link for your stock firmware.

Have you fixed it??
If not have a read of this and see if it helps:- Go to Galaxy SII General forum Find This:- [GUIDE] Fix an unflashable or soft bricked GSII (I9100G/M/P/T VERSION INCLUDED) By Phistachio.
I could not find an exact match of my phone for firmware and in the end went for the country /region and local service provider. I guess I got lucky! Once you get JB or ICS running you can load a recovery like TWRP and then "Progress" to your choice of custom ROMs.
