YES I SEARCHED!!! lol. and spent hours on this already!
- phone won't boot, sticks at the yellow triangle saying I-9500 (i have I777). i have previously been able to get into download mode, reflash kernal.tar, and then boot up for CWM access. i cannot access CWM now, only DL mode. and now kernal.tar (the same one used successfully before) fails.
i can connect with ODIN 1.85 at COM5. but last attempt to reboot it stuck again and now ODIN FAILS using the same process i used before with success.
i have tried other kernals in tar format using ODIN, no dice. if i try to boot now, i get the dreaded "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". Kies will not connect using all the lastest files & drivers, and it cannot troubleshoot the connection.
i need something i can use in ODIN to reset this and get into CWM. can anyone help? PLEASE? obviously i'm happy to provide more info if something would be helpful. TIA guys... man do i feel like a moron.

I sure hope this is a typo? Does it actually say I-9500?
You may need to flash the complete UCKH7 back to stock package including bootloaders. You don't say what got you into this problem. What did you flash, and could it have included bootloaders for a different phone?

i downloaded a Mystic ROM, but instead of downloading it via my laptop i used Tapatalk... i'm not sure that i was browsing the wrong forum.. but it's possible. what's done is done. never had any problem until now, oh well.
i never had the triangle until then. but now, or at least as of earlier today, i did. as i remember it, it said I-9500, but i can no longer boot, so i can't get there to verify. in ODIN, right now in DL mode, it says PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I777. but only in ODIN. will i need a jig for this? if so i have to act right away. it's just strange that i can get into ODIN like before and it connects, but now it fails with the same kernel files it succeeded with before. i would skip ODIN entirely, but the issues began with losing access to CWM, so that appeared to be my only option.
man i've been so careful until now. didn't even realize i was risking anything. ugh.
If Odin recognizes your phone, you should be able to flash the stock firmware. You don't need a jig (except for possibly reseting the flash counter) if you can still get into download mode using vol- & vol+ & plug in usb cable. Get the I777UCKH7-CL503881 Stock Binaries from the Download Repository. You can use the one-click downloader version for simplicity (or the .tar.md5 version in your copy of odin.)
Once you're stock, you'll need to root and install CWM recovery.
thanks very much y'all.

I'd be astonished if anyone here actually called you on the phone. You need to absorb some of the great material here, and get a basic understanding of the technology your phone uses, or you shouldn't be trying to flash firmware onto your phone.
That being said, this is not the first thread you have posted in, but here is as good a place as any. Please describe your problem in minute detail. Leave nothing out. If you are unable to use your phone currently, I will be glad to help you get it back to working.

Unfortunately, I likely won't be getting any new devices until the nexus comes out. My connection I used to have that allowed me to get devices out of contract for discounts no longer exists. So I wont be buying out of contract devices any time soon.
I refuse to beg for a dev device also.

Hi all,
Today I've tried to re-install Android 2.3.4 Kernel KG1 on Samsung Galaxy S2 because of some weird issues on my phone.
I just wan't to give my phone a clean up.
I'm still kinda new with Android.
I wan't it to install the 2.3.4 via Odin on my Galaxy s2, unfortunately it failed.
I get this particular message on my screen.
(Big) Phone..(Yellow Triangle with Explenation mark)..Computer screen.
Underneath it sais,
''Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again''
It doesn't detect my phone on Kies even though I've already installed Samsung's USB drivers.
I need help with this, does somebody knows the solution.
Sidenote, I can still access Download Mode
Kind regards.
*** (UPDATE)*** I've installed the stock KG1 kernel again via Donwload mode, The (Firmware fail logo and message) is gone only now my phone is stuck at the bootup with a yellow triangle and explenation mark underneath the Samsung Galaxy SII boot logo and it won't boot up. (I cant acces Recovery Mode but I still can enter Download mode

Because installing a new firmware Fails all the time.
I installed the same Firmware via Odin, but it won't go further. I see FACTORYFS (or something) wait for like 1 or 2 minutes till i see a glimpse of the green progress bar and BAM! out of nowhere it is telling me, FAIL (RED).
I really need a solution.

Simliar Issue
Hi,
I believe I have a similar issue. I just rooted for my first time using Odin and SuperOneclick. Everything seemed to go as planned, but now I can't connect to anything. I am wondering if this might be because I need to change another setting? I was searching the forums for a similar issue and this seems to be a hard search to find results for. Seems like most of the rooting has been done in the EU so far on this phone.
Issue: No service, No Data, Wifi Does not Work.

Perhaps installing a new firmware (Android 2.3.4 KG1) would solve this issue.
You got modem problems, and by installing a new firmware via Odin you will replace your current Firmware/Kernel with a brand new one.
I think this is the solution.
You should give it a try.

Thanks for the response =)
I went ahead and tried to install GT-I9100_XWKG1_insecure. Still no 3G, network service or Wifi.
I agree, I think its the firmware. I guess the next step is to figure out the exact firmware needed for the Sprint US version.
I might give a few more a try from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671
I may be way stupid, but I didn't think there even was an SGS2 on Sprint/CDMA? I wonder if you are flashing SGS2 FW on the new Epic 4G Touch (is that it's name?....the 4.5" one?)> I think that is verboten.
Actually, I think your right. They are calling it the "Samsung Galaxy S II, Epic 4G Touch." I guess it would make sense that the firmware for the similar versions might not work on this one. Crap. So now I have the wrong firmware installed, makes sense.
I have to catch a flight tomorrow afternoon. I might have to return it if I can't figure out what firmware to get. I am read posts where people say they are working on a version, but I still can't figure out what the original kernel version was.
Thanks for the reply.
Be careful. If you return it in that condition they might void your warranty because you flashed the FW. I would try posting in the correct forum for the Epic. I was just in the Epic forum and yes people are saying flashing SGS2 FW will brick the Epic. I think I read yesterday that the Epic isn't even flashable yet too??
Alright, so I had attempted to root my new AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH - i777 and succeeded, but had flashed an incorrect kernel so my phone is acting very strange. I can still use the phone and everything, but it will not let me get into download mode so that I can use ODIN to fix my phone completely with no errors. Then, I was thinking if I tried using this option in SuperSU which allowed me to unroot my phone, then maybe it'd fix the phone itself and correct the kernel. So now, I am stuck with an unrooted phone and cannot root it again because I cannot access download mode. I do have CWM, but I also ran into problems with that not being able to flash ANYTHING off my SD Card. Could someone please give some tips or tricks I could use to fix this?
p.s. I read somewhere about something relating to a jig? I am still relatively new to all of this so I don't know how I'd go with doing that without proper instruction.

How would I flash a different kernel? I can't do it through odin and I'm pretty sure CWM won't flash kernels. Plus, I'm not rooted anymore. So I'm not sure how I'd pull that one off.

Yeah because I ran into mobile odin after I found away to remove the root, hoping it would fix my phone. But that's where I kind of messed myself up. Would a jig be the only solution? Or is there another possible way? Could I do something through CWM?
EDIT: I cannot access CWM in any way since I am no longer rooted. I really screwed myself.
I understand that you are a little inexperienced, and I mean no disrespect, but what you are describing makes little or no sense. First do you have a Galaxy S2 I777? Next, what exactly are you doing to try to get into download mode? Next, how are you trying to access clockworkmod? Please be specific, and I hope you can get back to the conversation fairly soon, because I need to go to bed pretty soon. If not, I'll be here in the morning.

Well first off, to get into download mode I tried holding down both Vol. Up + Down and then plugging in the USB (with ODIN already up and running). Also, the phone was completely off when I do this. No matter how many times I try, which has been at least 30 times, it never works. also, I cannot acces CWM since I am no longer rooted, because I saw an option in an app called SuperSU that unroots your phone, but I had assumed that it would fix my problem. Apparently not.
No need to repeat yourself.
I've never heard of an I777 phone still able to boot and not able to enter download mode using the method you describe, unless somehow a secondary bootloader from another phone, say the I9100, got flashed onto it. Is there any possibility that the SuperSU flashed bootloader? Was that flashed in Odin? More details please.

Sorry, I should've made that part a bit clear. Yes, I am pretty sure I originally made a mistake of flashing the i9100 instead of i777. I went too fast into the process thinking I would know what to do, since I managed to root and install custom ROMs onto my old HTC Inspire 4G and my girlfriend's HTC Evo 4G. I realized HTC and Samsung are completely different, any phone at that, and I should be cautious from now on. And yes, I haven't seen a case like mine. My phone works fully functionally, I just cannot access download mode and since I am not rooted anymore, no longer have access to CWM. By the way, Im trying to get back to you as quick as possible so I can at least get a start by tonight before I myself goes to bed as well. ;P
OK. Looked up SuperSU app by chainfire. chainfire is a developer in the I9100 section. I don't see anything on his OP for the app that says it can be run on the I777. Didn't read in depth though. Need to take some time to study it to see exactly what it does. But on first look, it seems it could be involved in your problem.
Your phone can be recovered, but we have to know exactly what has happened to it in order to correct things.
Can you get into recovery mode using three buttons? vol+ vol- and Pwr.

Damn, I had sworn it said i777, because ever since I originally tried fixing all of this, I look out for i777 or not just to make sure I'm fooling with the right apps or kernels. And no, recovery mode won't work. Holding those buttons turns my phone off, with and without the USB cable plugged in. If I do it while the phone is off, it just boots up normally.
OK. You almost certainly have I9100 secondary bootloader, which governs button combination for download mode and recovery mode. I'm not sure if you can duplicate the I-9100 button combo on the I777, since in includes the hard home button which we don't have. You could maybe google it and see what you can find.
The other way to get into download mode that will work is a usb jig. Do you own one? If not, you can buy or make one. Buying one may delay fixing your phone by a few days. If you are handy, there are instructions for making a jig available by googling. Some links in one of my guides, too.
---------- Post added at 12:20 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:16 AM ----------
No, now that you say you flashed I9100 firmware, it probably means that SuperSU wasn't the problem. Doesn't matter now anyway. Just need to get your phone into download mode and flash back the full I777UCKH7 package including bootloaders that you can download from the Download Repository (link in my signature).

Alright, thanks for all the extra info. It really helped. My problem may not be fixed, but I even assumed I would need a jig. I guess I'll just order one online. Afterall, my phone still works. It is just bugged in an awkward way and I'd really love to root it, so I don't mind waiting a few days to get it going. Also, any recommendations on ROMs/kernels that I could maybe look into after all these problems are solved? Anyways, Thanks for everything!
EDIT: Also, whenever I get the jig, should I flash the bootloader or the stock kernel first? And another question, after this mess is fixed, is it okay to use a ICS ROM with a Gingerbread kernel and vice versa? Or should I find some guide about that? Lastly, I looked at the kernel that you were using out of curiosity and was wondering if TouchWiz or AOSP is better overall?.. I apologize for the explosion of questions, just so curious about all of this and want to know as much as I can.

Well I feel very stupid now. I have it all working, every last thing. I still plan on getting a jig to wipe the counter from the previous installations, but besides that, everything is perfect at this point. When I had originally tried adb I couldn't understand how to install it because it said there wasn't an adb directory, but I figured it all out. Thanks to both of you for the help. You guys are amazing!

I see you've already recovered the phone. I suggested that you flash the stock I777UCKH7 full distribution, which is under the heading I777UCKH7-CL503881 Stock Binaries in the Download Repository. That contains the bootloaders and everything else all in one package. I was then going to suggest that you follow my guide How to Flash Custom Binaries Without Ever Incrementing the Flash counter!! to root and install your custom rom.
For your other questions: You must have a Gingerbread kernel with Gingerbread and an ICS kernel with ICS. As far as what to flash onto your phone, that is a personal decision, and rom comparison threads get closed in this forum, and pretty much throughout xda. I like the rom I am currently using. It is an I9100 base modified for the I777 and uses the Apex launcher (not touchwiz). It comes with CherryPicker kernel, but even though I havn't changed my signature, I recently flashed Siyah kernel so that I can double boot AOKP and my regular rom. AOSP/AOKP roms are much closer to a straight Android experience. I'm just now trying it out for the first time. You just have to put something on your phone and try it out to see if you like it. If not, try something else.

I did follow your guide to doing it without incrementing the counter and now it works flawlessly. And I decided to test the ROM you were using and it is fabulous. Even though I do agree, Siyah is a better kernel. But isnt Siyah a Gingerbread kernel?

I have a rooted Australian Galaxy s iii i9300 running stock android 4.0.4 and Siyah Kernel V.1.5.3, both of which I flashed about 3 weeks ago.
My phone has been running perfectly, last night before going to bed I plugged my phone into the charger as usual. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary with it, I didn't alter any settings or install anything new and it has been weeks since I've flashed anything. I woke up this morning to see my phone stuck on the 'Galaxy S iii' logo screen as if it had automatically rebooted itself during the night and got stuck. I've tried removing the battery and turning it back on several times but it just keeps getting stuck on the logo screen. I can't enter clockwork recovery mod but I can still enter download mode.
Is my phone bricked?
How did this happen when I didn't even do anything?
What should I do?
Should I try re-flashing the stock ics rom?
Re-root
Try re-rooting it with Odin (from Download Mode), then you might be able to go into Recovery Mode.
Have you recently installed any app? Coz there must be a reason for this to happen.
If the above comment does not work, next step would be to order a jig to force it into download mode.

I can't even get into normal recovery mode, so I'm not sure re-rooting will help (I'll still give it a try though). Assuming it does work, what should I do once I get into Clockwork recovery?

That's what makes this so weird, I haven't installed any new apps over the last couple of days, I did install a few updates from the market yesterday or the day before but I don't remember which ones.

Did you flash the Stock Rom via Odin with 1 part file? You should try it with 3 part File Stock Rom and flash via Odin.

Thanks for the reply. Where can I find the 3 part file version of the stock Rom? Can you point me in the direction of a tutorial for flashing 3 part files with Odin? I'm only familiar with flashing a single tar file.
Seems as if this becomes a common problem, since this is like the 1001st thread about a S3 shutting down while on charge and not being able to reboot.

Really? I did a quick search before posting this, sorry for the repost. Did anyone come up with a solution in previous threads?
I've searched and searched but I still can't find the 3 file firmware. I don't even know what I'm looking for really. Can someone please link me to a 3 part Rom compatible with my phone?
While my search for similar problems before creating this thread yielded very few results, I have since found the other threads Ch0ka was referring to by searching 'There is no PIT partition'. It seems that if flashing a three part file and repartitioning with Odin doesn't work, the general consensus is that I'll have to send it to a service center for repair. Haven't I voided the warranty on my phone by rooting it? will they be able to tell I've rooted it or is it damaged beyond that point? I really can't afford to be paying for repairs right now.
I'm so upset, I still don't understand how my phone could just brick itself overnight! Could someone please give me some advice?

I have a quite similar problem. I thought it might be wise to post it here instead of making a new tread.
I in andvance apologise for my english.
Event that lead to my s3 constantly bootlooping
Entered Clockwork recovery mod.
Updated Kernel to Siyah from SD
Rebooted
Phone updated ( update i used to always click away, might be JB s3 update)
Now my phone boots, shows purple siyah picture, shows bootanimation, asks for simcard pin and reboots again.
this loop takes forever.
I cannot get into clockwork mod anymore.
I can get into download mode (down+home+power)
I am very scared that i ruined my phone :crying: :crying:
Is there hope that i can fix this? or like it is really low chance
rerooting didnt bring clockwork mod back.
installed clockwork mod via odin, but also didnt help.
I would really like to revert the (down+home+power) menu to pre root. because than factory reset is available.
is that possible? please help desperate person who is in need of working phone by tomorrow morning :crying: :crying:

Thanks for replying. My problem is that I don't know what to look for. How do I know which one has 3 files? Which one do I need? Sorry, I know this seems like a stupid question but I've never used a 3 part Rom before, I have no idea what I'm doing. Isn't it really important to use the right PIT file?

you have a serious problem on your end...either your computers have viruses or your not telling the whole story. the files work fine i have used them all. i would try installing a fresh copy of windows on your pc.

Use SirVilhelm's post for the Odin flashable and make sure you are using the Odin exe from Adam's bootloader unlock thread. Or flash Revision 3 instead of the full stock image. I borked my phone slightly and this worked.
Uncheck auto reboot, and after it finishes unplug and pull battery and wait for 10 seconds so it doesnt keep going back to odin.
Report back if it works at all

your getting corrupt downloads because of something on your end...That's the part your failing to understand... you keep saying "oh well that don't work for me"....ok but there must be a reason. What does this mean? You can use Odin for basically everything on this phone.
Well, you can't use it to make that worthless edge screen become something of value. You can't do that with Odin.
But Odin will do what you need. Power button, home button, and volume up button, all pushed at the same time, will give you the option to put the phone into Download mode and you can go Odin from there.

Had similar issue, with the Edge in this situation. There is no obvious "download" screen when this happens because all you will get is that message.
1 Ignore Kies, wont help you
2. download the stock firmware from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...alaxy-note-edge-stock-5-1-1-firmware-t3162245 (and thank the OP for posting it!)
3.Get Odin if dont have it already.
4. get phone to where it says "try again" and hook to computer
5. Flash the stock Rom via oden. Once you hit start in Odin you will, hopefully, see the download happen on the edge screen
I am assuming you know how to work Odin, if not, check out the several walk-throughs. The big thing is that, in this situation, error message screen IS the download screen at that point.

I'm a huge noobie with this, but what is the difference between a T-Lock and a Flash Lock? Also, there isn't anything to check besides the default and the flash options right? Thank you, my root didn't go all the way thru so I'm trying to revert it to the un-rooted version.

So, I put the file in the AP area and started it. Then I get a red button that says "fail". I'm using the model and service provider but I'm not sure whats wrong, The only thing that I think could be not allowing me to unroot my phone is the flash lock, unless, I need more files for the Bl, Cp, CSC..
