Hello. My xperia x10i is suffering from a constant reboot issue. It will randomly stop whenever I try to use the phone, even basic operations. When this happens, the phone will usually stop again sometime during bootup. It rarely makes it back to the swipe / login screen. And if it does, it usually stops again soon after I get to the main menu. At this point I usually connect the phone up to the charger and leave it for a few hours. After this time I can usually use the phone for a little bit.
The history of the phone is pretty simple: Way back in Sept 2010 when I first got the phone I think we were at Android 1.6. I rooted the phone at this point. Since then I've updated to version 2.0 and 2.1.
I've been experiencing the reboot issue ever since the 2.1 update.
About a month ago (on version 2.1) I attempted to have the phone repaired under warranty - to fix the reboot issue. SE sent back a note with the phone saying that the software had been tampered with and they weren't going to honor the warranty.
After this I updated to 2.3.3 but the reboot issue is still happening. Basically the phone is unusable. I have about 4 days until the one year warranty expires.
1) Is this reboot issue a known problem? Can I fix it myself?
2) How can I get my phone back to a warranty-able state? Yes I've searched extensive, and I have about 10 tabs worth of threads open. I'm confused though. I'm unsure if the things I'm being asked to do will result in a warranty-able phone.
Would appreciate some guidance and help.
Cheers

okay, inorder to be able to help you:
1. Try reflash firmware.
2. I think they record your IMEI / serial number when they find that you've tampereing with the software. Mostly likely they'll just send it back straight away.
3. Have you unlocked your bootloader?
1) Using which method? One of the many outlined here, or using the SE software? If it's the latter, I'm not sure it'll help as I've already moved from 2.1 to 2.3 and the reboot issue hasn't gone away.
2) Yeah, I think you could be right, but I've nothing to lose.
3) No, I have not and don't intend to within the scope of this particular issue. Perhaps I will if it's beneficial and can't get the reboot issue solved.
Thanks.

Use SEUS or PC Companion (Repair Option)!! will return your phone to stock!

hope you get you phone repaired under warranty!
Hello again.
I used the repair option in the SE PC Companion software to flash 2.3.3 on the phone again, however it must have gone wrong somewhere. When powered on, the phone would vibrate briefly as it should, but would then constantly vibrate a short while later. Then screen remained blank.
So I used Flashtool 3.0 and a generic 2.3.3 ftf ROM and flashed that onto the phone. This returned the phone to a working state. Unfortunately the reboot issue is still present.
I'd like to inform any Aussies reading this post that Optus, my carrier, and SE (Aus / NZ) have been particularly unhelpful.
I rang SE Support (in New Zealand) in an attempt to find out what they knew about the so called software tampering issue, but they insisted they knew nothing and that the service centres are merely "authorized service centres" and not part of the SE business. I was told to contact the service centre directly.
So, basically SE refused to help me work through the issue. Thanks for nothing.
I talked to Optus at length today and they agreed to help me find out what was going on - I was to expect a phone call later in the day. And you guessed it, I've not heard back from them...
I think, as soon as it's practical, I'll be switching to a Telstra plan and the Samsung SII. Optus and SE can just go away.

Hi.
I just got my p500 that went to repair( i bricked the phone) and they fixed it and updated to 2.2.2 but im having some issues.
The phone doesn't turn off the screen, even tough its set'd up to and i have to lock it in order to turn off the screen and sometimes just turn back on even without a text or call and i have to again lock it. Other problem is that the phone does not recognize that it's connected to the pc by usb.
I already tried do a reset by restoring the factory settings but it didn't solve anything.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I didn't want to sent it back to repair because it took a long time for they to fix it.
Thanks
All p500 tht was repaired by service hav this prob, I think its due to faulty motherboarf tht they using.
So that means that i will have to send it back =/ Theres really nothing i can do? I even thought it was all software related and if i flash the phone with the 2.2.2 room (im afraid that downgrading the room will brick the phone) but i don't know if this is possible to do with 2.2.2 and because i haven't found how to root this version.
I had the same problem too after get back my O1 from warranty, really feel disappointed with the service.
Anybody can help except sending back to that stupid service centre ?
Did yours took too long to? Mine took almost a month to get back from repair and it came with all this problems.
Im disapointed with the service too.
You should hav been careful in the first place.
Its a dead end now.
I don't see how its a dead end now.
I should have been careful at the first time while was trying different rooms with different methods and that's why the phone died. I sent it to repair and they replaced the motherboard from what i understood. So if it a new motherboard and i havent change anything since and im having these problems i don't see it as a dead end but as a responsibility from lg or the company that repaired the phone and my provider to repair ir. So maybe the first time since it was my fault it would be my responsibility , but they didn't question that and i didn't say anything. After they repair it but with a malfunctioning piece it's their responsibility to fix it. At least that is how i see it.
Im going to have to sent it back to warranty to repair and i hope it doesn't come with the same problems again.
Ok its not a dead end oO''
I understand ur rage... But I jst warning other users to take precautions while messing with the phone. Or they wud also qq over a bricked box..
Gudluck with the service..
Cheers.
Thanks.
I subscribe your adivce.
I have been thinking of reinstall the firmware(the original from lg) to see if it solves the problem, but im having a issue. I can't connect the phone to the computer(only transferring things to the sd card and install or open from there) and i don't know if i can root it with this version i have now, 2.2.2.
Does anyone know how can i do this with the android version and without connecting it to the pc?
PROBLEM SOLVED
I was planing on sending the phone to repair on monday, but at the time and with the phone here i didn't want to give up so i thought of rooting it and reinstalling the firmware, but nothing worked and the phone didn't recognize that it was connected to a computer. So i kept search other ways to reinstall the firmware and came across a website that talked about a "secret menu" code for the phones and i remembered that this phones must had one and that from there i could do something, i did. From there i did a factory reset and, unlike the ones i did before by going to settings-privacy, when the phone rebooted it told me right way that it was connected to the computer. I also tested the problem with the screen light and so far, so good.
So, if anyone else has this problem(sannielyk reportedly had) what i did was entering the "secret menu" code : 3845#*500# and did the factory reset from there.
Apparently it was a software problem or something that wasn't installed right by the lg service. But so far everything is good, and i hope it keeps that away.
Thanks for the help
Edit the title as [solved].
Goodjob bro.
Cheers.
Done.
Thanks
Thx a lot to griffin_1.
I tried ur "secret menu code" to reset the phone & it is really work , now problem solved.
No need to waste time back to the lg centre.
You're welcome. Glad i could help and that sending the phone to lg could be avoided in this situation.
Oh man you saved my life. I don't know how to thank you. Thanks, thanks, thanks a lot, it really worked.
Thanks griffin_1.
I had the same problem and i was going to send it back to LG service. but ive fixed it with the secret code . Thanks again.
hey people i did send my lg p500 to repair becouse something went wrong the change my mainboard and the ime well done , then i got the 2.2.1 as stock rom
good then i did upgrade to Noijins megatron then the problem starts sometimes
if i just use power amp and want to go to the facebook app the phone simply start blinking the buttons like u would overclock your phone.
then it just reboot from alone i think i got the problem 4 or 5 times a day and i simply start beliving that maybe the gprs or the module might be done for the internet.
so i think should i send it to the repair again ? i even try to flash my baseband
same error at the new roms.
i hope you can help me griffin
got the same trouble like u since lg change my motherboard.

Hi,
I bought a mini pro sk17i a week back. I updated the phone via pc companion to 2.3.4 (4.0.2.A.0.58). The phone was working fine, but after 2 days it started to reboot itself after a call. after 5 continuous reboot i reset the phone (erased all data), then it worked fine for 2 days. Today while i was shopping i made a call, then it started to reboot. One of the things i noticed was from that point any number i dialed was not showing in the call logs. i couldnt reset the data as i was busy shopping and kept the phone in ma pocket. Later i find the phone is switched off mode. I tried pressing power button but nothing happens. Took the battery out and re inserted the battery. did a reset and it started to work fine. When i took the battery out it was a lil hot (warm) and the phone was also warm (battery area).
Here are my questions;
1.Why did this happen.
2. The phone was a lil hot when i removed the battery, can any part inside the phone be damaged if it goes hot.
3. Is this because of hardware problem/Software problem.
(I did a full reflash using flashtool and the latest firmware, till now its working fine.. dunno if this will happen again)
seems like firmware problem to me.
take the phone to service center if haplens again.
but I guess its fixed now, tho I dont know the reason, might be something happened by updating
It happened again. I flashed back to 4.0.2.A.0.42. What could be the problem.

This might be due to any software you installing after flashing...
Try to remember what you do after flashing and uninstall that software
Else get global copy of .58 update and flash that .ftf packageby using flashtool...

Have you had this issue since flashing back to .42?
We will roll out a new software starting next week (.6x) mainly meant to improve the memory management to avoid reboots. Might be exactly what you need.
The roll out will start 12W02 but all phones won't get it at the same time so I cannot say for sure when your phone will get it.
Please post again and let me know when you got this so I know if it helped or not.

Hi Markus, Thanks for the response. As soon as i bought the phone i updated the firmware using pc companion. The flashing part went fine and the phone was working fine for 3 days, then it started reboots and turnoffs. I reinstalled the firmware and the same happened again. Then i observed this repeatedly happens when i finish call or lock the phone once it happens. i Also noticed the last called persons info is not stored in call log. But if u plug it for charging then the phone is fine. I rolled back to the previous .42 version. It was working fine for 4 days, yesterday after an hour of music playback (battery was around 44% or below) this happened again. i turned off the phone once it started restarting itself . then turned it on and cleaned the call logs. From that point its working fine without any shutdowns/restarts. Please help, i'm pretty sure that this is not a hardware issue. if the phone can run fine for 3 days without any probs..

me too when i use GPS or Wlan (.42 and .58 Firmware).
Thanks for the info.
I suggest you wait for the new update (.6x) which should hopefully be available for your phone very soon. If this won't fix the problem you have or if you don't feel like waiting for it (I cannot give an exact date when you will get it) you should contact a service center and have them examine the phone and do whatever necessary to get it working properly.
Repair routines varies a lot depending on market and local laws so you should give the local support a call and ask for some info about this if you choose to go with the service option.

Oops, double post.
HI there
I bouught a 2nd hand X10 Mini Pro for my daughter before Christmas and before I gave it to her I upgraded it to the latest Android 2.1 SE firmware using SEUS.
She loves the phone, size, keyboard etc but is encountering a really irritating problem where the phone will randomly switch off in her pocket or (occasionally) in mid phone call. Sometime it retsarts itself after this, sometime it will restart when she hits the power button and occasionally it will hang completely requiring a battery pull before it will come back on. The phone can go days at a time without restarting once and then restart 3 times in 5 mins.
Dear love her, she's not lost her temper with the phone once, and really wants to keep using it but a school friend has the X10 non-pro version and her's has never played up once.
Googling suggests this is not an unknown problem for users but turns up no clear solution.
My question(s) then are:
1. Anyone else encountered this problem?
2. Is it likely to be a hardware problem? (battery replacement likely to help?)
3. Would dropping back to Android 1.6 sort this? (reliability is more important than other considerations)
3. (Hopefully) Can someone suggest a custom Rom which solves this problem completely or helps minimise the number of restarts and gives her some renewed bragging rights over her increasingly smug school friend?
Any suggestions gratefully received.
thanks
Some people did encoutered similar problems with rebooting.
Hardware by itself might be failure, but can't confirm that, it's not always hardware fault.
You could try to take out a battery out temporarily and put it back.
Dropping to 1.6 isn't that useful, as it's older version and it will be less compatible with apps. Though, it should fix some problems, but I can't confirm that, so you shouldn't try it yet.
You can try MiniCM7Pro v21 Custom ROM by paul-xxx. However, you need to know how to Root your phone and how to install Recovery (ClockworkMod) and installing ROM itself, and additionally backup in some case. Note: It will void your warranty if you have one.
If you have warranty for second-hand phone (I actually have still valid warranty for mine), you should send it to their repair service, but still backup everything.
However, before actual rooting, you should first try factory reset or if that doesn't help, then use Sony Ericsson Update Service or PC Companion to wipe your phone by completely resetting it. Note that you will lose all data with that (except SDcard, but backup should be recommended in any case), so you should backup everything first!
If it doesn't help, check around this X10 mini forum sticky threads just in case and don't do something if you aren't sure how to do it.
Hi
Recently my S2 just stopped reading my SIM when I was going to call someone. Since then it has refused to read my SIM, or any other SIM for that matter.
To fix this problem I've tried resetting the phone to factory settings (in 3 different ways ( hard-reset.com/samsung-i9100-galaxy-s2-hard-reset.html )) with no luck.
I've also tried installing alternative ROM's, but with the same result.
The phone was already rooted with an insecure kernel when this happened, so warranty is long gone.
Though, one thing I did realize was that even though I did hard-reset the phone several times, some of the settings on the phone remained untouched, like my locking pattern and a few other settings. Does this mean that hard-resetting the phone isn't really an actual hard-reset? If that's so, is there any way to properly 100% reset the phone?
In short; I'm running out of options on how to fix this. I refuse to believe it's hardware related, just because I'm stubborn like that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated (really).

You can refuse to believe in gravity too, but falling from high distances will still hurt.
If you tried more than one SIM in the phone and none work, but those same SIMs work in other phones, than more than likely, it is hardware related.
Did you check you imei?
078gregory brings up a good point. So if it's not missing IMEI info, THEN it's likely hardware.
Isn't it funny how everything suddenly works itself out once you cry out for help?
Today I've been trying around 10 different ROM's on the phone. Custom and stock. As one last attempt I gave a random ICS 4.0.3 march ROM a last try, and guess what. I got the SIM prompt. I can not believe it. So yeah, it's working now. I have no idea what caused it, but I believe the phone was stuck in flight mode somehow, and just needed an extra push to get out.
Either way, it's working like a charm now. Thanks for the replies though.

Hi people. I have the same problem Habitats decribes. Mi s2 is stuck in flightmode and cant get out! i have reset the phone in every kind of way but no succes. Now i read here on this forum that flashing my phone to ICS 4.0.3 can help solve the problem. I'm on 2.3.6 now. This flightmode thing happened al over sudden. I have done nothing strange with the phone. Its not rooted either. I was planning to go to a samsung servicepoint and let them check whats wrong. But now i read this thread and see that i can relate to this problem of Habitats. I think a also will try to flash ICS 4.0.3 and watch what happens. But theres another problem. KIES don't recognize my phone anymore so what can i do? Can someone please help me out? Thanks in advance
I'm having the exact same problem, could you please tell me which rom worked for you Habitats? Thanks in advance!
Update:Last tuesday i went to the vodafone store were they have a samsung service department also. I explained my problem to them but they don't seem to recognize the problem. Although i read that many people here at xda's and over the internet have similar issues with this phone.Strange! So they sent it to the repair centre. Yesterday i could see in the track and trace menu of the repair centre that my fone was ready and send back to the vodafone store. Status: Boardswap. So they swapped the whole board! Didn't know that the problem was that serious! So i hope i can pickup my galaxy s2 soon this coming week!! I can't wait!I'm on my old HTC Touch HD now. Its ok with the windows but on Android....Arggghh!! Whatsapp is a pain and more. Its so laggy!. I will give an update soon again!
Hey guys I'm new to the forum so go easy on my
So here's the story, last month when the .314 update came I was to impatient to wait until it got the over the air update so I dowloaded it from XDA flashed it using flash tools. I've done the many times before tomy z2 and also to my previous phones and everything went fine. But this time after around 20% of the flashing was complete the completion bar just got stuck there forever. I waited an hour but nothing seemed to be happening so knowing well that it'll brick my phone I unplugged it from the PC. After some googling I found out that there was a new version of flashtools available so I unisntalled my previous version and installed the new one and flashed the same ftf file again. This time to my relief the flashing went normal and my phone was successpfully updated. After a few hours of use my phone just randomly restarted. I didn't pay any attention to it but in the following days my phone started restarting at the most random times around 3-4 times a day. So obviously I knew that something has gone wrong. So I used my booted my phone into safe mode but the problem presisted, I tried doing a hard reset and then I use SUS to repair it but the problem was still there.I even flashed the singtel version of the same firmware version but even then the phone just randomly rebooted. There's nothing wrong with the sim because I switched the sim too (because some people kept insisting that the sim is to blame although I knew in my case that it wasn't) but as I expected the problem presisted. Now I'm at a loss as to what to do.I bought the phone from singapore but right now I don't live there so I can't claim warranty (even if I could).
So I turn to you, the experts in XDA it would be great help if you guys can guid me to a solution or atlesat tell me what the hell is actually wrong with the phone.
Ps: the restarts are entirely random. eg: I can play asphault for hours or shoot 4K for a long time without any problems but then I try texting someone and the phone restarts.

Telephony is actualy the phone part of a smart phone, its sim card slot to the app it self
Usualy when there is a problem with any one of those it will cause a phone to not function properly
In this case yours is one of them
Replacement or repair is needed ;D

I see. Unfortunately the country I live I'm in at the moment doesn't have a sony service centre or anything of the sort so I have to go back to Singapore to actually give it for repairs.
But how is it possible that I got a hardware damage just by a flashing error? I mean before that incident the phone worked just fine for 3 months and I've never dropped my phone or done anything to actually damage it physically.
