[Q] SMS backup restores with wrong time - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a rooted Moto Droid 2 Global with the stock rom and Android 2.2.
My device started acting strange and Verizon sent me another one, and I have been trying to back up my SMS from my old device to my new one (another D2G with stock rom and Android 2.2). I have a little under 5000 SMS messages on my device.
I've tried a number of applications to do backup, and they all have the same issue - when I do the SMS restore on the new device, they messages all appear at the time they were restored, instead of the original time sent/received. This creates a mess in threading as the messages appear in random order.
Has anyone had this problem or found a way to resolve it? If so, how?
P.S. I've got Titanium Backup, but I can't seem to find a way to get it to back up the SMS database.

TITANIUM BACK UP issue.. Need clarification.

I read the basic guide in the HTC section, and then skimmed through various threads as well..
but havent been able to get answers.
My current phone: S2 i777 (running SHOstock3 v1.7)
Old Phone: Motorola Atrix (running GB)
Titanum Backup version: Free (non pro)
I backed up my SMS from Moto Atrix.
TB shows 2 entries, both with same names: Messages 2.3.4
Both have red smiley icon next to them.
I exported the files to i777 S2 and tried to look up the concerned entries. Upon clicking Messages 2.3.4, it showed 2 options: App Only and App+Data
Now accidently i clicked upon App+Data instead of going back. TB started with the attempt and i did force closed the TB app.
The phone seems to be working fine atm.
1) Do i need to worry about anything ?
2) How to restore the SMS via the free TB version ?
(if i have missed out on the thread/discussion, do excuse me and link me up pls. I did tried to look up.)
I recommend using SMS Backup & Restore instead.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Yea. i looked up a few threads for this issue, and this sms backup app's name came up.
Thanks for confirming it :good:
Atm my main concern is that my phone's OS shouldnt have been altered/messed up by the failed sms backing up operation of Titanium Backup.
ATM it seems to be running fine and no forced closures experienced yet, but i dread something like a bootloop or other complications on rebooting or during extended usage of current session.
Any symptoms to lookout/check for the OS getting messed up ?
I was able to backup few apps successfully.. just this sms backing up has given me a scare.
Btw, i am running Shostock3 v1.7. Kernel is jeboo 1.1
The only thing that may happen is sms will close but I doubt that as you stopped it.

[Q] I can't restore call logs/SMS with TB.

I moved from pacman android 4.2 to pacman android 4.3.
TB did backups of call log and SMS via XML.
But when I tried to restore call log, nothing changes in the dialer app.
When I tried to restore SMS, I see all my old SMS for about a second before they all disappear again. I don't have the "prune old SMS" setting on, so all SMS should stay there forever.
Any help?
I tried it with 3 other restorer apps and none of them work either. I'm starting to think that the rom stores the data in a unique way that no standard rom uses? I don't know.

[Q] Restoring text messages from backup on 4.4?

I just rooted my phone to install the Google edition ROM but before I did I backed up my texts using Wondershare MobileGo. I've used this program to backup and restore messages, contacts, photos, etc. on my phone many times before and on previous phones and it has worked fine. But this time when I try to restore my messages they don't show up on my phone. To be specific, when I first do the restore the threads will show up under the contact name but there will be no messages when I open the thread. Soon after they just all disappear (only the restored messages, not any new ones). It seems like they're getting deleted as they're empty threads but that's just a guess. I thought it might have been a problem when doing the backup so I opened up the file (.sms file) in notepad and all the messages are there. I think it has something to do with Kit Kat but I've never encountered this problem before.
So does anyone know how I could restore my messages from the .sms file I was given from the backup or why the messages don't show up on my phone? Thanks!

[Q] Where are SMS stored?

I was on a build of CM12, but it started bugging out on me and then when I tried restarting my phone it was stuck on a boot loop, so I created a nandroid, then resorted an old back up. Does anyone know where the text messages are stored? I have important messages that I need to restore and make sure I don't lose.
Are the directories for text messages on stock different than cm12?
I'm afraid I can't answer your question, but the only way I've been able to restore text messages is to have backed them up with Titanium first. Titanium does have the option to extract data and restore from a nandroid, but I've never tried to restore SMS that way.
Perhaps this app could be of use: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...mNvbS5yaXRlc2hzYWh1LlNNU0JhY2t1cFJlc3RvcmUiXQ..

Restore older / overwritten viber back up

Hello guys,
My note 20 ultra crashed out of nowhere.
Trying to restore it's data to my previous smartphone, i accidentally made a new back up in viber.
This means that now if i try to restore my viber messages i get back the back that i just did.
It seems that the new back up overwitted the other one.
Is there any way of finding my older viber back ups? for example in google drive where they are stored?
Thanks in advance for your help
