TITANIUM BACK UP issue.. Need clarification. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I read the basic guide in the HTC section, and then skimmed through various threads as well..
but havent been able to get answers.
My current phone: S2 i777 (running SHOstock3 v1.7)
Old Phone: Motorola Atrix (running GB)
Titanum Backup version: Free (non pro)
I backed up my SMS from Moto Atrix.
TB shows 2 entries, both with same names: Messages 2.3.4
Both have red smiley icon next to them.
I exported the files to i777 S2 and tried to look up the concerned entries. Upon clicking Messages 2.3.4, it showed 2 options: App Only and App+Data
Now accidently i clicked upon App+Data instead of going back. TB started with the attempt and i did force closed the TB app.
The phone seems to be working fine atm.
1) Do i need to worry about anything ?
2) How to restore the SMS via the free TB version ?
(if i have missed out on the thread/discussion, do excuse me and link me up pls. I did tried to look up.)

I recommend using SMS Backup & Restore instead.

Yea. i looked up a few threads for this issue, and this sms backup app's name came up.
Thanks for confirming it :good:
Atm my main concern is that my phone's OS shouldnt have been altered/messed up by the failed sms backing up operation of Titanium Backup.
ATM it seems to be running fine and no forced closures experienced yet, but i dread something like a bootloop or other complications on rebooting or during extended usage of current session.
Any symptoms to lookout/check for the OS getting messed up ?
I was able to backup few apps successfully.. just this sms backing up has given me a scare.
Btw, i am running Shostock3 v1.7. Kernel is jeboo 1.1

The only thing that may happen is sms will close but I doubt that as you stopped it.

[Q] SMS backup restores with wrong time

Hi,
I have a rooted Moto Droid 2 Global with the stock rom and Android 2.2.
My device started acting strange and Verizon sent me another one, and I have been trying to back up my SMS from my old device to my new one (another D2G with stock rom and Android 2.2). I have a little under 5000 SMS messages on my device.
I've tried a number of applications to do backup, and they all have the same issue - when I do the SMS restore on the new device, they messages all appear at the time they were restored, instead of the original time sent/received. This creates a mess in threading as the messages appear in random order.
Has anyone had this problem or found a way to resolve it? If so, how?
P.S. I've got Titanium Backup, but I can't seem to find a way to get it to back up the SMS database.

After flashing using titanium backup

After I flashed the new rom I used titanium backup to restore my stuff like usual...however this time after I restore all my apps and system data the phone acted very unstable! I reflashed and now I am wondering if anyone knows what the file name is for my contacts and Sms messages? I really would like to get my contacts back up. Thanks for all the help!

Use google for your contacts, then a soon as you log into your gmail account it will sync them.
SMS may not be recoverable if you change Android versions (2.1 -> 2.2, 2.2 -> 2.2.1, etc)

Your sms's are gone unless you used an app called sms back up!

A good rule of thumb is to restore system data. Keep your contacts backed up with Google or on your SIM card and simply redo the rest once the new ROM has settled (10 minutes and a couple reboots).
There's a simple reason for this: If the author of your new ROM tweaked one of the system files that you're restoring, restoring from a backup could destabilize your ROM, or worse, send you into boot-loops.
3rd party apps (Angry Birds and the like) are usually safe, while System apps (SMS, Launcher settings) are unsafe often enough to want to avoid restoring them.
One other thing, you did not say which rom you changed to. If it was MIUI, then titanium does not fully work. You will have to restore one at a time on the non-system apps per the above post.

Here's what I'd do:
1. Restore the NANDROID you made before flashing the new rom
(or in case you didn't)
1. Flash the ROM you were previously on, and restore your titanium backup'd stuff
Next
2. Enable "sync contacts" with google (as suggested above)
3. If your Sms messages are restored, back them up as suggested above
Then
4. Flash your new rom
5. Enable "sync contacts" with google to get your contacts
6. Use the Sms restorer thingy mentioned above

[Q] process com.android.mms has stopped unexpectedly

Hi,
For the last 4 days or so whenever I flash a new ROM I keep getting this error @ random times, not even when I go to access the stock messaging app, sms stills works perfectly as well
After lots of research I have deleted the message.db, tried to do full wipes, factory resets and then flash Wanamlite Rom and there it comes back, tried other Roms as well same thing
I have a small suspicion it could be related to flashing different Siyah kernel's form 2.1 to 2.2 and now to 2.3
It just kinda seems to disappear after trying loads of things
....really frustrating.....any advice would be appreciated
What did you do after flashing a new rom or after a factory reset, did you restore anything from a previous backup at all?
All I would restore are my apps via Titanium but not system restores.
Don't think its that because I even get it when I restore to a perfectly good nandroid backup via CWM which never gave the issue but now suddenly does, even do full wipes before the restore as well.

simple solution
I also had a same problem.
I copied an old sms from SIM to Phone memory.
Then started the problem.
Then I installed the third party app "go sms pro"
and deleted the same old message from phone memory inbox.
Now the problem has solved and able to access the default indox.

[Q] Easy way to restore apps/user data after flashing ROM's?

I am new to HTC devices, coming from Motorola Droids. I have read a lot of the info here but still have a few noob questions. I am currently running RezROM 1.5 and like it a lot. But I would like to get the OTA update for the new radio and I would also like to check out some of the ICS ROM's.
So question is: Is there an easy way to restore user data and apps after flashing ROM's? Many of the ROM's I see suggest or require full wipe and often recommend not restoring anything. I have had problems restoring data (both on Motorola and HTC) with Titanium backup.
Thanks!

The apps part is easy. Backup your /data/app/ somewhere before changing ROMs. Then drop it everything back in /data/app/ afterward. All you're backing up though is the installed application, not the data. Data is not recommended across many ROMs so I don't even think about it.
I've tried a few ways... but ultimately. I just deal with resetting everything up the way I want.
I've used MyBackup. It does alright. Takes forever if you have a lot of SMS messages. And it doesn't exactly get all of your system settings either. I also had a problem where I factory reset, re-installed all my apps. and then ran MyBackup restore to get the home screens back in order and while it did, none of the app buttons worked. So I had to replace everything, but at least I knew where things belonged I guess...
Eitherway, haven't been that impressed with any of the backup/restore things as of yet. I'm feeling bold enough to say there isn't a SlamDunk solution out there that'll work for everyone, but the ones that do exist might do enough for you to be happy.
The best way I have found by far is to use the app "App Monster Pro".
You can have that app made a BU copy of the APK for all your installed apps to a folder on your storage card. Then, after a ROM flash you just go to that folder & click on whatever APK's you want installed for the new ROM & you get a completely clean new install of everything in no time.
That way it a little slower than a TI batch recover, but the difference is it works 100% right 100% of the time (something TI & My BU Pro NEVER do)
It doesn't restore text messages, but I never had any desire to do that anyway (it always cracked me up when I had my TouchPro 2 & people would post I just restored 4200 text messages to my new ROM & now my phone is freezing constantly when texting, what do I do??)
I just use ES File Explorer to backup my apps, as for data, for me, my critical data are my contacts, so I just sync those up with my google account.
I second AppMonster Pro for just apps. I love that as soon as you download an app it makes a backup of it so you never have to think about it. And when restoring it's easy on the eyes, unlike TiBU which I find I have to search around a lot before I find what I'm trying to restore. Still I use three back up systems - AppMonster Pro, MyBackup Pro and Titanium Backup Pro - just in case so if one fails I have others to turn to.

Not all apps restoring with TB

Hello everyone,
I just got my S3 yesterday and have already rooted it and attempted to use Titanium Backup (TB). I was able to successfully restored a couple of apps, but the bulk of my apps wont restore. When restoring I am not receiving any errors, and it appears as it is processing/restoring them correctly, but when it finishes it says (it does say Restore complete), the apps do not appear in my app draw and in TB they have a line struck through them (typically means that it sees the backup information but it is not installed on the phone).
Anyone have any ideas?
Im on Sprint 16gb S3 and am coming from rooted OG Evo. I use the Root method found here
Thanks for your time and help
Maybe they are not compatible with ICS?

Did you try rebooting your phone?
Thanks for the quick replies guys. I have tried rebooting my phone and still no luck. I came from CM9 on the EVO so there shouldnt be a problem with ICS (unless there is something that I dont know). Thanks though.
I did download one app and it was a lot of steps but was able to restore the data for that app. I am going to see if I can find the files for my sideloaded apps and restore the data that way.
If anyone else has any idea why this isnt working in the first place I would love to hear about it. thanks
Did you try manually restoring the apps? Titanium backup won't mix old data with a new version of the app or vice versa. If an app updated and you have old data backed up with the app, you would have to manually restore the app if I remember correctly.
Thanks. I tried but it wont let me manually restore them. When i click on the app, the option to manually restore is not there (it happens both when I have or havent manually downloaded the app). I can see that it still says that the current rom/phone is my Evo. So i am wondering if that has to do with it....just really strange. wondering what i did wrong.
Check out titanium backups website and Check the troubleshooting page. I think it talks about transfering apps from different phones.
