HTC Sense UI? - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Apologies in advance if this is the wrong thread...
So, I was wondering if anyone had successfully ported the HTC Sense UI to the SGA yet? I recently read a post from a group of developers attempting to port it to the other Galaxy phones and actually made headway with their project. They released an alpha version of their ROM but then abandoned the project soon after. I was intrigued all the same and followed up on the alpha but it is no longer available. It was also created solely for four Galaxy series phones (none of which were the Ace).
It would appear that porting the Sense UI has gone stale somewhat so I was just speculating as to whether or not any developers are still actively creating such a ROM(s). Also, I've tried the LP Sense UI and immediately liked it. However I would love the real thing.
Any feedback on this is greatly appreciated

You can theme your Ace like Sense Look here (my current Design)

I was asking the same thing before.
fla.sh is working on HTC Sense framework theme. For now I have launcher and widget. Lockscreen - widget locker with single 3x4 sense slider.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14516484&postcount=4
As for launcher search for version 1.5.0.3. It's the newest one.

Very nice theme you've got going on there
As I said, I had the LP Sense UI and it's fantastic...but it doesn't quite do it for me. I would love to actually have HTC Sense on my Ace (as opposed to a launcher/skin). Only time will tell though.
I was somewhat gutted that teamgalaxysense abandoned their efforts. It looked as though they were making great progress. Oh well *sigh*
I really do hope someone develops an HTC Sense UI ROM though. I will quite happily to donate to the hero that does

Is it legal to port HTC sense UI ? I mean HTC sense UI is heavily copyrighted. Cyanogenmod developers had tried it before to include in official cyanogenmod and got the stick from HTC. Anyone trying to port should ask permission of HTC. And besides HTC sense UI is a huge resource hog.

Not sure about the legality of porting the Sense UI. I would think that it would infringe on any copyrights that HTC had made but I don't think it would stop people porting it (contributing to torrent websites is very much illegal but it doesn't stop millions of people doing it).
If anyone has successfully done so, I would very much like to hear about it and whilst I'm not encouraging anyone to break the law, I'd be more than inclined to use a ROM if anyone had any luck creating one.
I understand what you're saying though. Porting it could create a lot of unwanted attention from HTC and ultimately the authorities...

i dont know about legality thingy of sense, but here on xda got bunchload of non htc device got sense rom ported to it. if htc that much copyright freak as apple, even those launchers that mimics its sense ui might got sue by them.

Touché
*fingers crossed* for Sense on the Ace...

Somebody get the Sense UI (new HD version on Fascinate please!!)

Some genius has got to port the new sense ui over to the fascinate PLEASE!!!!
OMG ... someone actually likes Sense ?
Why not buy HTC?
I would love HTC Sense on my fascniate too. I came from an incredible and I miss it but the screen on the fascinate is just to hard to give up. Once i installed launcherpro i realized I could make this phone do what I want.
I had sense 2.5 on my Omnia i920 adn wouldn't mind seeing the sense interface on this beast...... You think anyone would be up for the challenge?

Once we are able to compile a bootable kernel for our Fascinate and the 2.2 sourcecode becomes available, I will begin the porting of Sense with help of another dev who is doing the same thing for the Droid. But I will warn you, it will take awhile for it to happen due to the nature of Sense being so tightly integrated into the framework where the source code is not available.

Yeah, but I want to instead of just making a stripper ROM like everyone else and plus it will be fun. The biggest task is the Radio or RIL code because once that is done, everything will come naturally with patches. The good thing thou is we will be getting a lil help from the RIL master Vilord who originally made one for a WinMo port of Sense Android for the old HTC XV6900.

yeah im a huge fan of sense ui. I personally think stock android is bland looking. I love the speed of launcherpro.....but those fake sense ui widgets kill me.
the new sense ui is amazing people!!
I too love sense. I have the incredible now, my first sense phone, and I think it is the best phone I have ever had (Captivate, Droid X, Droid, Droid2, and allot more). I am considering returning it for the fascinate though, the screen is just too hard to type on with the incredible. The 4" fascinate screen should be just about perfect though. I am still leary after the horrible experience with the captivate on AT&T though. The fascinate has the best looking hardware out though. Would love to have the option to put sense on it.

fake? they work just as well, supported, and constantly updated by the developer.
The only thing I would take from the *new* sense is that 3 second boot up time. The rest of sense is UGH.
I can say that Sense is GREAT for people who just want a simple phone, its straight forward. Whenever a casual phone user asks for a recommendation, I recommend them an HTC phone or the iPhone.
I think the best bet is to use launcher pro plus and beautiful widgets. I imagine it won't be too long before someone makes a skin similar to the new sense look.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Samsung Fascinate + LauncherPro Plus + Beautiful Widgets = Epic Android awesomeness, no need for Sense UI. Note that I used to be a huge fan of Sense UI. It's just not worth it due to the ridiculous amount of system resources it takes. After loading a non-Sense (no pun intended) Froyo ROM on my Eris, and got a HUGE boost in battery life, I realized just how badly Sense UI was draining the system, and that's likely why the Incredible has such bad battery life too. And even before switching to Froyo, while still running stock Eclair with Sense, I switched to LauncherPro, and immediately got a boost in performance. You won't notice the lag on the Incredible, due to the fast processor, but I'm guessing it's still a CPU hog underneath, which drains the battery fast.
Funny how my last post got removed...haha dont tell me this forum is practicing censorship all because I have an opinion?
Mine was deleted also??? Hmm? I simply recomended a widget that replicates the Sense clock/weather widget. I didn't know that was a crime.

When was it posted? everything that was posted and uploaded around yesterday was deleted due to a failed xda system maintenance.
Highly doubt anything in this section gets moderated.
Okay. I didn't know that. The widget I suggested was Fancy Widget. It is identical to the HTC Sense clock/weather widget. This plus launcher pro plus does the trick for me.

Yea lets get moto blur ported over too. Lol jk no on blur. But seriously I would donate for the hd on the fascinate, hell I would donate for vanilla froyo!
Shameless bump. I'd love to see sense on my Fascinate. I've loved SenseUI for ever, just seems like the perfect configuration.

HTC makes Sense open-What about ports now?(Please,I ask you not to flame) :)

Hey guys,a couple of days ago(or was it yesterday?) I stumbled upon this article at Phonearena, which pretty much states that HTC is making Sense open source.First of all,I personally believe it's very nice of HTC to respect developers with their latest actions. But I chose to jump ship for Samsung's better hardware(My f*@%@$ng GS2 isn't here yet ).
So,my question to you guys is,could this help things for porting Sense to the SGS2?I think it would help very very much. The time and effort needed will probably be dramatically reduced,so more devs may choose to make Sense ports for other devices.UNLESS it only has to do with modifying Sense and cannot help us.
And I beg you guys,do not flame me.I just prefer Sense over TouchWiz or Vanilla Android.Don't tell me I should have gone for an HTC device if I wanted Sense, that's not this community's spirit.
Thanks in advance!
I highly doubt they are "opening" sense. To me it looks like they are making it easier to develop sense specific apps (3d api and magic pen api). So no help in porting sense.

They're opening it up, not making it open! Very different. They're going to give access to certain APIs to help better integrate with 3rd party applications. But they're not going to give their delicious, fattening and buttery (and not to mention ONLY) creation to keep people on HTC .
I honestly think it's a lot of eye candy, give me a good widget any day
Oh...So I suppose it won't help in any way?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
They are just opening it up so developers can write apps for their bloatware ui.
It will help developers/companies to make applications/widgets/whatever that run on Sense.
They are not making the source code of Sense available.
Sad... I also hoped this will help to port over Sense...

[Q] Honeycomb HTC sense

Anybody care to hazard a go at getting Honeycombed HTC Sense to the touchpad? now that the source code's been released
What port would they bring? The honeycomb Version from the evo view 4g?
Sense is to incorporated. Into the OS it would be more work than worth.. let along sense is a RAM hog.... it wouldn't be very fast
Sense is bad enough on the phones. Thank the phone Gods for CM7 sent to fix them.
Evo view 4g or the Jetstream one too since the jetstream has the same SoC as the touchpad
I asked about doing this before....people thought
I was crazy

well the ROM is there....the source is there....Honeycomb source is there aswell
we all know what htc are like when it comes to updates so i'm not expecting ICS till about february
I would pass on anything that is running sense.
However, honeycomb with TouchWiz UX from the Galaxy Tab would get me excited.
Honeycomb was finally open sourced when ICS was also released, but you still need to start from scratch. So, I doubt we will ever see honeycomb on the TouchPad, when an equal amount of work will give us ICS.
Plus, Sense was not open sourced. Sense is proprietary software owned by HTC, so any ports of Sense (and for the same reason TouchWiz from Samsung) would be borderline illegal at best. So, if it is done, I don't think it will be distributed or supported on XDA.
For the TouchPad we will have to rely on CyanogenMod, MIUI, or other cross platform builds (don't know of any).

And touch wiz. Is bust as useless... its a ui that looks like a kids toy phone... and useless features
I would also like to see this. I love the way sense looks on tablets. I Thought that Leoisright was going to try and do it, but he is doing a Xron version of CM7 right now, so i don't know if he gave it up, but he would be your best bet to ask to do this. Send him a PM and tell him that people do want this. Good luck.
ok before a fist fight breaks out lets just get things down to ground level lol....people prefer cm7 thats fine, doesn't mean bash the fact that it'd be nice to see sense on the touchpad lol
back to the point. if we can get enough people who'd like sense (i'll make a vote thing) then perhaps leo wouldn't mind having a look at this too
I thought that was more of a publicity stunt. I thought the arrangement was that people could alter and or enhance Sense, not freely take it to install on other devices. Sense is the only thing HTC has to differentiate itself.
Regardless, while sense is not for me, I agree more variety would be better for everyone. If it is possible, then I'm all for it, I just thought this was akin to the Windows 8 talk.

Sense or AOSP [Poll]

This thread is a continuation of the thread started by: eggydrums
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433526
eggydrums said:
Hello there!! I wanted to make this poll to see what the fellow users here in the Amaze forums prefer, Sense or AOSP.
On one hand, we have the original, pure, vanilla android interface. Simple, nothing so complicated and still, yet to come the Amaze, "the pure Google experience". There is no rom that is FULLY stock, with the exception of BeastMOD and SenseLess which are almost de-sensed completely.
And on the other, we have the long running Sense, courtesy of HTC. With lots of eye candy, lots of widgets, and an obsession with weather, Sense is very diverse and customizable. One of the latest versions of it, 3.0, is included with the Amaze, and most of the custom roms for it are Sense.
Many people, love sense, others hate it and prefer AOSP over it. So, its simple, choose your preferred interface, and leave a comment of you want xD

You know what I find is funny?
For devices like G1, MyTouch even Vibrant a bunch of people really want Sense.
Now that you have a device that has Sense out of the box nobody seems to want it.
Here's what I have to say about it: If you don't want it, don't buy it. I happen to be a large fan of the Sense UI. I don't care about how "bloated" it feels or anything like that.
I used to make themes for the devices that didn't have Sense to at least give it a "Sense" look and feel. People went out of their way to edit the Sense UI apps just to make them available for devices that don't come with it.
So now that we seem to have the perfect device to run Sense... you all want to get rid of it?
I don't get it. If you don't like Sense then why by a phone with it??? Someone please explain that to me.

Very valid point,
here's my view
I happen to like HTC since i loved my nexus one, and I bought this phone mainly for it's camera, nothing else is like it on T-mobile right now. I neither hate fan nor like it there are parts of it I like and parts I don't. I bought the SGSII first and hated it, I hated the screen resolution and how big it was...this phone just felt good...Sometimes even if you don't like sense, there are no other options, every individual wants something different and not all cellphones deliver everything in one package. I was initially waiting for the galaxy nexus and just got tired of waiting. I hated the pentile screen when I looked at it in the store (even If I ordered over seas) NO dedicated camera button, this is what I really wanted. I also wanted a 720p screen like the rezound, If I could I would get the rezound, but it doesn't have dedicated camera buttons and I want that. it has the same exact camera as the amaze. a 720p screen on a 4.3 inch screen which gives better dpi than the retina display...But I have no choice, I'm not going to pay 180 monthly just to get that phone...right now I pay 60 bucks on a shared plan and get unlimited everything with 5 gigs of unthrotled data. I also like this about android and like things about the iphone, I can't have it all in one package.
I use locker widget, and adw launcher and I'm happy with it...I do not hate the sense launcher, or the lockscreen, I just prefer my own customization. I love what they've done with their camera app. I like their calendar application. I like their parts of their contact and dialer app and hate parts of it.
I talk too much!!!

Peoples always wanted what they don't/can't have. Simple
I myself love to have a Sense Rom mainly due to its lock screen and weather widget and a few more stuff but also running ADW so I can switching back and forth every other week or so
Personally I think Sense based Rom give me more options. If tired of looking at Sense, switch to other launcher and apps or vice versa whereas ASOP based wouldn't let me have Sense stuff if I so desired
Just because a phone comes with Sense doesn't mean it's the main attraction of the device. Did people buy the Samsung Galaxy S2 for TouchWiz? I sure hope not. There are other features of a product that convince people to purchase it. Specs, look and feel, cost-efficiency, and availability all factor in and affect this. The Amaze happens to feel like a really premium product with high end specs to boast. It also happens to come with Sense.
I don't hate Sense, but I just find it to be too non-customizable and would always use a third party launcher like ADW Launcher or Go Launcher anyway, so Sense means little to me.

I sense garbage.
This is my second htc sense phone.
You like sense until you try something else for a while.. Then you can't stand it.
We all have our own opinions.. It's fine, but for me it's a nice eye candy developed system that I can not stand and can't wait for cm7, 9 or something else.
Also a reason why I have adw launcher.
Talking of CM I kinda missed it alot.
Many great features: crt built-in, toggle widgets on top of pull-down notification panel, brightness adjust by sliding the status bar ect ... And separate lock screen wallpaper
Too many customization Sense lack

No problem.
I like sense, I like AOSP, just depends on how I feel that day. With all the themes, Roms, tweaks and different launchers, we can pretty much do what we prefer on any given day. I still have a cliq lol running 2.3.4 gingerbread aosp, a HD2 running Sergios core cell rom, and my "NEW" Amaze stock, patiently waiting for new developement.
Sense has great eye-candy and great integrated apps which is my kind of thing. like the built in task manager, built in social media, built in music player. its all better than stock IMO. Stock gets boring to me for some reason
I personally have no problem with sense, it's just the size, I like using my system partition for apps, but I do like the facebook and tight music control integration!

3.0 in place of 4.0

Greetings
Would anyone know if a sense 3.0 ROM could be ported to work on the 4G LTE, I like themed ROM's and not much theming going on with 4.0's stubborn apk's and no m-10 yet either.
I kinda like 3.0 better anyway, not sure if anyone else share's the same sentiment.
Thanks
I like that it multitasked!

Theoretically.. maybe? I mean, I imagine it would be like porting a new version of Sense, but backwards. There would definitely be bugs in something like that.

Pretty much this. It's possible but there would be a boatload of bugs. That's considering anyone even wants to port it over.
Sense 4 theming will pick up as soon as we get m10 image decompiling. The Virtuous Team folks seem to have solved this (as evidenced by their Sense 4.0 Theme) so hopefully they will update their Studio tool with support so we can all decompile the images. Hang tight
The only "bad" thing with Sense 4 is multitasking other than that its a complete improvement over 3.
Sense 3.0 was so bloated.
It could probably be done, but I don't know any developers who are bothering going backwards.
Consider it like this. It would be equivalent to buying a Windows 7 PC with a free upgrade available to Windows 8 when it's released, then wiping it completely and putting Vista on it. I'm pretty sure it's never been attempted, but very much possible. It'd take a while to do, though.
Stop living in the past, man!
Sense 3.0 was a step in the right direction for HTC to show what type of desktop UI rendering a smartphone could do but the transitions, framerates and objects were poorly rendered. Anything sense 3.5 and above ironed that out so for quality sake I would stick with any Rom with those versions.
I see that one responder told me to stop living in the past lol. It's just a matter of preference, ICS really doesn't do much for me, in fact I prefer 3.0. I know it might be headache to do, but it's more of a heedache (at least at this point) to try to get a bunch of stubborn apk's to cooperate so that a guy can make a theme. The stock looking UI sucks.

Getting sense 3.0 would be just as buggy and a PITA as it is getting aosp/miui on this phone. It's a downgrade, but it's still ripping and hacking software that wasn't intended for the lte
