heya fellas
currently working on criskelo's latest rom and was wondering...
is this something we all have or is it due to the rom ?
whenever i send a picture as an mms... (directly from the cam app after the pic is taken or from the gallery)... the mms size is hardly 20-30kb's (i know there's a provider limit of 300-400kb per mms/ well atleast with Etisalat here in the U.A.E)
on original roms... does compression in mms work the pic down the same way ( to very small sizes ) ?
sending mms when looking at details is a bad idea >_< but when u have 100 free mms a month that doesn't count in the data package u simply have to use it...
i know i could email the picture to maintain full clarity but on a tight data plan, thats a lot of mb's >_<
so could ya'll help me out and tell me if the original roms compress as much as other custom roms? or maybe even make a list to compare how the compression differs... thanx in advance ^_^
Has that custom rom got a modded MMMS ??
jje
Stock ROM is the same. I use handcent now which leaves the image far less compressed (typically 200-400kbyte), but it doesn't use the orientation info in the photo and so you can get photos sent sideways (portrait orientation photos). So now portrait I use standard messaging, landscape I use handcent.
@JJEgan
as much as iv been around the modding part of android, i hardly seen anyone mess with this feature when it comes to mms compression of pictures...
@tonymy01
thanx for the info tony, i guess i'll have to change to a diff sms app and try out my options, altho i like the original one but gotta find something that works ^_^
Anyone got actual fix?
I just moved to ICS and have experienced this issue. Before on GB it was just fine (arround 300kb)... but now it's sadness(15kb)...

I want to send my MMS ALWAYS with the HIGHEST priority to shorten the delays between Actual sending and Actual reception
for some reasons, my recipients receive my MMS with a variable delay, sometimes hours !!! This can't be acceptable !!
With other phones, I had the setting to chose among 3 priorities, and when I choosed "highest", the MMS delivery was fast as expected
with the SG2, no settings of this kind appear to be available....SG2 seems to ignore it...
Network providers system do consider this parameter, so there should be a setting somewhere in the SG2 .... can't seem to find it, can't find any info about anyone caring about this VERY interesting priority option....
Anyone help ?
I believe for sure is must be part of MMS.APK....
Is there a MOD available, standalone or in a custom ROM ? or An App that can offer a way to set this priority before sending ?
Help much appreciated !!!
NO !!!
Can it be that I am the only one in the world who cares about speed delivery of my MMS SMS or Emails ?
Or is it that 2012 has already begun and there's nobody to listen ....
even if you dont have answers to my question, feel free to express that you feel the same, I'll feel less alone ....
thanks

try to check your APN setting for mms. that may be the problem. i have no such a issue at all. check your network stats and recheck your APN if its correct.
Well, Thank you for your answer,
But I dont find any setting under APN setting menu for MMS, none with any setting regarding MMS priority.... Maybe though it's not an issue,
maybe the SG2 is already sending MMS with highest priority ....???
But as I've seen the setting in my previous nokia phones, I believe it's possible to choose...
If the setting exists as a basic GSM function, then why the I9100 doesn't offer the possibility to tweak it....hummm ???
I believe the setting is hidden from the UI on the current roms... Hope that someone on the dev side will soon find a solution....
This is my 2 cents request.... LOL
I found an app or 2 on the market that seem to implement this feature, but cant remember the names by now, didnt test them....
But I'm looking for what we deserve : a solution embedded natively in the UI
Hi every one
I'm on galaxy s3 and hate the fact that it auto converts the SMS to mms when character exceeds 480.
And there is no option to disable this perk..
I don't want to use 3rd party apps like gosms and handcent for the simple fact that they don't support motion gestures like dialing the contact when phone is held to face.
I know there are various ROMs with this option...I am looking for a stand alone zip file that could be installed through recovery.
For the record I'm on XXALF2 ODEXED ...please help me find this app I'm sure there are a lot more people looking for this simple but necessary option..
Guess there is no much hack...although there are some cooked ROMs with this functionality..
Anyhow, mods u may close this thread

Hi Iris,
Sorry to hear about this. I know it probably doesn't help much now, but if you just want to send Long SMS messages (over 3 SMS) you can use BigSMS. It doesn't support any of the gestures and stuff, but that isn't really the point. Most people type their message in the stock app then copy it to BigSMS and send. Not a perfect fix, just a solution.
Thanks man
u wrote the app man..really doin the trick for occusional long sms

Hello all, just updated my to ATT/ICS last week and thought this feature was to be included in the 4.0? After searching here for a bit I can't find any info. Wondering is there a way to do this with out rooting the phone or running a different launcher. TIA

that feature is available on Google's version of ICS, which is AOSP, but also in AOKP/CM9, I have AoCP from The Collective Team and I have full screen caller id, if you're running stock , well that's AT&T/Samsung's fault for not adding it to their dialer, you can try this app out and see if you like it, I don't think you need root for it or anything else. good luck

Hey thanks roloracer, this is kinda a no brainer Att Ics? Coming from a windows phone and boy that feature looks just great. Every day I'm getting closer to the ROOT of the matter. Thanks again.
Related question, but backwards.
How would you disable this feature?
Looked through all the options I can find in CM9 (h0tw1r3, not the official CM9) and can't find anything about it.
I don't have contact pictures for 75% of my contacts, and the ones I do have are seemingly tiny images that look terrible on the Note full screen.

the moment someone woudl sync with google .. there server saves the pics very samll so it woudl look bad for everyoneanyway.. thatfeature has been present on htc devices for a long time and i had a mod on my previous samsung phone rom to allow big pictures full res ,but you woudl have to NOT sync google contacts automaticallly and save them to vcard on your phone so you can reload the full res pictures , this issue has been on going since the first android device go look at google 's error reports youll see tht threads is thousands of pages ppl com:laugh::laugh::laughlaining .
@DAGr8*;
thanks for info ..........yes I was wondering , if there is a way to do this eg > lower the resolution of pic ( thus able to add bigger size for display on Ausoem note screen)
will that maybe solve this issue?
<< this feature was one of Major reasons why I went from ICS stock to another ROM from Xda forum>>
I find stock ICS from att =has several things lacking and a MAJOR DISSPOINTMENT
>> thanks in adnace > love your mods and work !
Cheers
I was just wondering if there was any way to increase the max size for MMS or just get rid of it all together. 1200 KB isn't that much when a standard picture with the rear camera is 1.6 MB. I don't send too many MMS messages but it would be nice to not have my photos compressed when I do send them. I haven't tried looking at the apk yet to see if it can be edited in there or not yet cause I'm hoping there might be a way to avoid that or maybe someone out there who already thought of this and has an easy fix for it.
Hello,
I think I've tried just about every Rom in the forum and currently on MOAR_S5_Port v5 10-26-14 just because everything works perfect, can force roam and I'm a fan of the Moars setting options. Kit Kat Killer was hard to let go to as well. Anyways I tried Sacs_N4-N3_NEW_12-17-14_V3 yesterday & noticed in the comments you can send a video AS IS rather then the compression kicking in which makes it fuzzy and less quality.. I gave it a shot but couldnt get my messaging to work to send it, (probably because I'm on OC5 insteak of NK4 or NH7), so used email instead. To my surprise sending it via email worked! It does shrink it to send but keeps quality. Couldnt believe it. I know Iphone users dont have this issue but I guess I'm a Android fanboy..
The short version of my question is:
IS there an APK or zip available to flash the compression file similar to whats used in Sacs_N4-N3_NEW_12-17-14_V3 ROM? I'm not sure if any of the s6 roms do this since I didnt try but feel free to let me know. I hate having to upload videos to drop box just to send a video to people. I want to just be able to send as is, (if its short at least).
Thanks!
