[Q] Screen Issue - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

after using the phone for like couple of days and before even rooting i am having there strange kinda shades on the screen... afterwards i rooted it to check if its the rom issue.. but even afterwards it stayed the way as before....
please let me know if its hardware issue and i should get it replaced (i am certain of it.. still hoping for a solution from the geniuses here.. )

That does not seem to be normal, but it looks like u took pics of the screen, a screesnhot from the phone itself would surely eliminate weather its a software issue or a screen issue, my guess is, if it's a hardware issue, the screenshot should not have that issue

Root won't help all that has done is void your warranty .
Factory reset as first step .
Then report back.

[Q] Has your SGSII ever turned off on its own? Please add to the poll :)

Just trying to build some statistics as to how common this turning off problem is.
--------------------
PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE ANSWERING:
1) Obviously this is regarding the phone turning off on its own when its not due an empty battery.
2) Only answer with "no" if you've been using the phone for at least a week. If you've been using it for less and it hasnt turned off, answer with "No - but had it for less than a week".
--------------------
I just want to know before I send my phone to Amazon for replacement.
I've had it 8 days, so I clicked the 2nd "no". If I saw any hardware fault in a new device I'd immediately get onto the supplier for a replacement. Unless there's software at fault here (unlikely, but obviously possible) then I can't see the problem simply going away.
Hope you get it sorted mate.
Nope. Had the phone since may 6.

No. Never unless the battrey is empty.

Touchwood, never and I've had the phone a few weeks now.
Had this problem last year with my new Desire, but returned it to HTC and they replaced the mobo without any problems.
Yep had it nearly 4 weeks and its went twice. Not in the last week or so though.

Everyone runs different apps and settings on their phones. Unless there's a specific hardware problem there's going be tons of variables to consider for those having reboot issues. I've had mine for six weeks and its never done anything wonky.
I returned my 1st one as it turned off a few times a day. Replacement has been fine.

Does reboot count as a yes?
I clicked yes but I am not 100% sure if this happened to me or not. Allow me to explain...
I was carrying it in my hand walking and I happened to look at the screen and it was showing the Samsung GT-i9100 splash screen seemingly for no apparent reason. When it went away it just went right back to where it was (no media card reading or anything).
It was strange to say the least but I have not seen it happen again since then and that was about a week ago and I have had the device for approx. 3 weeks now.
Does this sound like the same issue?

Oh sorry i forgot to mention this. No, reboots don't count as they're probably a software problem which can be fixed maybe with a new ROM or update or wtvr (i'm probably going to install another ROM eventually). And i'm not sure how a replacement will help with that, since I already have the KE7 firmware installed.
Just complete turn offs, cuz it might be a hardware problem, which can be solved by a replacement.
Thanks for the responses guys. Keep it up
Hmm, well i'm not really sure of anything, but that looks like a reboot to me. It might be that it turned off and you accidentally held the power button and turned it on, but since there was no card reading or anything, i think it's the "fast reboot" problem i've seen some people with on the forums. I hope it doesn't happen again

[Q] little help

i come from sgs2 , 2 days ago i bought evo3D, and i didnt root or change something from stock version , and now my phone keep restarting , i guess from what i know from my sgs2 framework doesnt work or its buggy ..
anyone have any explonation
(sorry about my english )
Make sure the matter is completely in place... On mine there was a small enough space between the pins and terminals to cause reboots so I shoved a card behind the battery and no more reboots
If you have not rooted anything if it's not a hardware issue like thatguy11285 suggests. I would try a factory reset and see if there was some type of software that was causing the issue. Maybe a specific app? Who knows. But that should cover hardware and software related issues.

Probably a defective device. I had a similar problem. I exchanged my original Evo 3D with a new one within 15 days of purchase. The new one works fine.
Try and boot into safe mode and see if it keeps rebooting if it does I'd guess a replacement is needed.

unroot and revert to stock problems.

Hi,
How do I 100% revert to stock ??
I can flash a stock rom via Odin and lock the bootloader. if I do those 2 things .. is my tablet 100% stock again??
I'm having some problems which I believe are not really custom rom related.. So I wanna check by putting it 100% back to stock first.. and if those problems still exist RMA the poor thing..

Hello,
I had my tab sent out for repair (screen came loose), and got it back with bootloader unlocked....
But yes you can flash stock and send it in for repair.
Whats the problem if i may ask

The screen is all messed up .. when I turn the device on .. colors are a bit fuzzy.
But after a few minutes .. lines starts to go through my screen and later on there is nothing I can see except running lines and dots running to the screen in different collors..
Strange thing is .. it also does this on the splash screen, battery charging screen, clockwork and even the bootloader screen :S...
Like my tegra2 chip is fried :S ...
I remember seeing something like this back on my 8800m geforce card .. Turned out then, that the gpu chip's soldering was just bad and it needed to reflow.. Back then it was an issue with the type of soldering nvidia used, the whole serie suffered from it..
But first off all.. I guess Nvidia learnt from that.. Second of all .. I haven't really come across others with this problem on the p7100 :S ..
Strange thing is ... I haven't really changed anything on my tab the last few weeks. I'm not overclocking..
The last few days I did notice some pixels of weird colors on my wallpaper, but I figured it was just a bug in the livewallpaper which I installed a day before (skyrim live wallpaper from the tegra market)
I dunno what happened of what exactly causes this .. but it does really sting :S..
Try flashing (stock) rom, maybe that will fix your problems.
But by the sound of it it doesnt look like a rom problem....

Indeed thats what I figured...
Other then locking bootloader and flashing stock.. is there any other way samsung could see my device was rooted??
The thing is.. I don't overclock because the device is fast enough and I prefer battery time over extra performance. But .. if the tegra chip is somehow fried.. Samsung could blame rooting.. Which is understandable .. therefor I don't want them to jump to false conclusions.

It's either a software or hardware problem. Do a wipe first. If that doesn't solve the problem, it's likely to be a hardware problem. Contact the support service, they'll fix your problem.
This really is the wrong section to put this thread into... A moderator would probably move it. It is in no way related to development - it's a hardware issue, I'd say.
Anyway, I suggest you make another video, maybe longer . We need more details... Only 2 touches were wrong, if you ask me... or at least that's what I figure from the video...
graphic and touch screen glitches
sometimes, reboot + clear cache & dalvik works, but that was graphic glitches
are you using Go-Locker or some other lock-screen crap
Try to calibrate your screen but i think the problem is not the software, i think is the screen. If i was in your place i try at least to change the kernel and rom.
I started this after replacing the touch screen. But that's because I put it wrong.

what? You started this?
To the OP if you tried everything that was mentioned above and found no change, then it is definitely a hardware issue and you should call a rep from HTC or sprint, or your carrier.
i was exact the same problem as you. this line of dead pixels is spreading more and more. in time is this line spreading more and more to the hightes level and in the end no touch is working. send to the service and pay for the replace.
Ok guys .. Thanks a lot for trying to give a help... Now .. I am pretty sure that it's a hardware problem
I've also gotten this problem lately, but i'm thinking its a software related problem since the problem seems to vanish if i just lock/unlock the screen again.
Will try a wipe

Try using a diffrent charger if your using a non stock charger also after a full wipe also try the calibration option located in display settings. You could also try a different kernel as well.

Galaxy S III Not responding

Hi everyone,
i don't know if someone already encountered this but sometimes my GS3 does not respond when i try to wake him up. (it's not turned off just standby). The screen stays black en nothing works. One time the screen did woke up but i couldn't unlock it because the touchscreen didnt work. It could not be turned off and the buttons didn't do anything! The only way for me to get out of this was a battery pull!
I did not root or modify anything on this phone because i like the stock samsung TW for the first time .
Did anyone else have this problem? And how did u solve this? Thank u.
Possibly due to an app you have installed.

Thank u i didn't thought of that. Is their an easy way to find out wich app this could cause? I still find it very weird. If an app is not compatible than it just shouldnt install intead of breakin the phone right? XD
This happened me last night as well. Couldn't do anything other than turn the phone off, and when it came back on it was fine again.
Unrooted as well. Would like to find out how I can prevent this from happening again?
if you are not sure about the root cause of the problem better factory reset your mobile

Yes, if it happens again than i will try that. But i already sent the unit back from were i ordered it. They will send me a new one because its their policy to send a new one if something happens in 2 weeks.
So i will see if it still occurs with the new one otherwise its one of my apps. Than i will install only a few apps and see what causes it. If it doesnt occur one more thime than the unit was faulty. Ill keep u guys updated.

Did it happen once? My phone had it like 3 times so thats why i sent it back. But if it still occurs with my new phone than it must be one of the apps i got Luckily they got DOA policy. I asked if it includes ''the phone does not work as it should" and they said yes send it back u will get a new one yaay but now i have no phone
I had this. After a hard reset, multiple times, and configuring with no accounts (no samsaung account, no google, nothing), it still happened. I ended up returning the phone and I've not had a single problem since.
I think it was either faulty memory or a dodgy firmware flash (more likely). Either way, I didn't care to find out and now it's all good.
