will it work with pre paid with same data speed? Will att throttle the data??
Yeah ive got it working on tge fifty dollar pre-paid plan....but i have slow data. Im about to test my speed now

Im getting roughly 500kbps down....

Hum.... I might go with the sprint version then.. I'll sell my AT&T version then.
Prepaid is capped at 500kb, unlike the medianet plan.
I am on the medianet plan. Unlimited everything dumbohone plan prepaid with the medianet data plan.
If im on medianet plan why am i still getting slow speeds?

Wait but you just said earlier your on the prepaid as in the gophone for 50$ unlimited. A 50$ gophone unlimited plan isn't the medianet plan at all.
Correct, what exactly do i need to achieve higher data? I thought i was on the right plan

You need to get a non-smartphone plan and ask for medianet with it. Also you will need an old dumbphone for the imei number to show att or do it by phone.

so, can some one explain the medinet plan vs gophone plan?? Whats the difference?
---------- Post added at 08:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:30 PM ----------
Or not....
Medianet plan is the the data plan for dumbphone. It's posted with a voice plan. It's 3g speed. Gophone is just prepaid with possible slower data speed.

so how does this work? How can I get my gs2 on this, and will it work like the 3g speeds I have now with no throttling? I might just keep my att gs2! Thanks
The medianet plan no longer exists. Anyone on it has been grandfathered. There's a couple of other unlimited 3G plans that have been grandfathered too. The new unlimited plan is data for non-Smartphones. It's only available on post-paid plans. It's $15 a month stand-alone or $10 a month when bundled with an unlimited messaging plan.
The GoPhone plan is $50 a month for unlimited talk, text, and data for non-smartphones. It's a prepaid plan and it doesn't allow you to roam off the AT&T network or add calling features to your plan.
Pre and post-paid plans are run through two totally different systems and are tracked and billed differently. People on post-paid unlimited plans have gotten up to 8MB down so access to fake-4G speeds are available. People have had different results based on which grandfathered plan they're on. I'm using a new data for non-Smartphone plan which I started when I got the SGS2 and am getting fake-4G speeds where offered.
The GoPhone plan is tracked differently and has different APNs. People have reported pretty poor download speeds. Additionally, monitoriing data use for prepaid customers is a lot easier and there's a strong chance excessive use will be flagged.
The majority of people here are on post-paid plans with only a handful on a GoPhone prepaid plan. You can always try GoPhone and set up a post-paid plan if it doesn't work out.

Anyone knows if we can keep the unlimited grandfathered data plan for LTE? I'm thinking about the skyrocket.

Customers can choose from tiered data plans starting as low as $15 per month. Existing smartphone customers do not have to make changes to their data plan.

Hey guys I just bout my Atrix the other day off contract and I got this text.... AT&T Free Msg: Did you know an eligible data plan is required for your 4G Smartphone? Pls call 611 to select a plan and establish your 4G data connection today and I have the unlimited data plan from forever ago. Am I safe?

I get the message once a week, as well as an email. It happens when you still have the unlimited plan. They can't make you change your plan. I would not worry.

I've read that they send you those messages and then they change your plan to data if you call them but if you don't they just keep sending you the message without doing actually changing your plan.
But I don't actually have AT&T so I'm just talking from word of mouth(or keyboard if you will...)

So if you call that number by mistake then they change it automatically or do you have to confirm it with them?

they probably want to switch you to the 4g plan, which has an unlimited data option for those grandfathered in.

Is this any better then my current unlimited plan? And are you sure they wouldn't try and swindle me and get rid of my unlimited plan
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
I had iPhone 3GS before and was grandfathered in. Wife was also grandfathered in. All you should have to do is tell them you do not want to lose your unlimited plan, and want to be grandfathered in and you should be set.
If you are unsure, call an AT&T store and ask them without giving your information. Also, make sure you go into a store to have the changes done. When I bought my phone they automatically put me on the 2GB plan and I spent 2 hours trying to get unlimited back, which I got after a manager authorized it.

with the 4g plan, it allows you to use the phone apn instead of just wap.cingular. using the phone apn, i get speeds of over 7mbps sometimes. using the wap one, i max out at 3.9 where i live. that's the only difference. they activate that apn for you

Call AT&T and ask. I would think so though, but you need to purchase a data plan I think. It's $25 for 1GB per month. The other data plans offered are too small to be of any use.

Nevermind...........I'll just hold your hand!

You could use it on Straight Talk for $45 a month with unlimited everything
Has anyone used simple mobile on a 717Note I am on CM9 and not unlocked yet but curious if anyone has been able to obtain the 4g speeds they offer for 60$ unlimited everything.
Just get T-mobile's monthly 4G $30/month plan. Unlimited text and web (5gbs at 4G) and 100 mins. You can't beat that.

3G?.. Lol, after 2 gb you are down to dial up speeds... You can't avoid that no matter which plan you choose on prepaid. Atleast on the tmo plan you have 5gb which is pretty epic.
If you want truly unlimited, you are stuck with Sprint contract plans. And they are only unlimited because they are slow as ****.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
You misread my post. I can find unlimited non capped 3g speeds anywhere. I wanted unlimited 4g. And how do I go about getting that tmobile plan? Prepaid? Can I use my old SGS4G sim card? And is there a free unlock option available yet?
I had simple mobile and let me tell u it was worse than wen i had cricket when they first emerged so ya stick with a real provider

I dont care about phone calls btw. I will be using Groove IP to make all my calls like I do now I just need a decent usable data connection.
How about H2O? I use it and get at least 1mb up and down. Sometimes I would get 2mb up and down. Its not as fast as everything out there but I do live in long island. Might be different in other places and you don't need to unlock your note. Just put in the similar card and download an app to configure data and SMS. And your good to go. $60 a month is better than $170 a month
Typed on my White Galaxy Note running ICS 4.0.4
Do yourself a favor and order the straight talk sim card....straight talk is att lil brother....my speeds at lowest are around 6mb down..... 1.5 or 2 up....excellent signal.....I love it.....straight talk is the way to go....and btw its 45 unlimited everything......

I'm getting a used Vibrant and i was planning on using it on AT&T, but since i have a go phone i was wondering if i could switch to the unlimited plan and get unlimited DATA since its not a AT&T branded phone? Thank you
Hoping someone could help me, thanks
I highly don't recommend this. You'd have to unlock your vibrant to even work with at&t, but even then, this doesn't sound like a good idea. Maybe try a captivate?

Actually, a non-AT&T phone has EVERYTHING to do with getting data. If you use an AT&T Android(like the Captivate), they won't let you access data. Data is blocked for AT&T smartphones on the $50 unlimited GoPhone plan.
So, if you want data on the $50 unlimited plan, you MUST use a non-AT&T phone. The Vibrant is a good choice. It supports the AT&T 3G bands.

just go with net10 or straighttalk...at&t bands, and unlimited everything for approx $45 a month.
I've bounced my vibrant around different at&t mvno's for a couple years now with no problems (short of the mvno's themselves...service/data has been stellar).
been with net10 for a few months now, and so far they've been the easiest and most professional mvno to deal with...their unlimited plan is actualIy better than their parent at&t's for regional use imo....highly recommend them if you are in an area with crappy tmo coverage (like me), or are just tired of tmo.
