Cannot connect to wi-fi - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In my house we have a SGS Captivate and an SGS Fascinate. The captivate, my phone, is rooted and running serendipity vii and working just fine (with a few known bugs from serendipity but that's neither here nor there). The Fascinate is NOT rooted and running the stock android. The captivate connects to our wi-fi just fine. The fascinate, however, does not.
Symptoms: While it was originally able to connect just fine, it has since stopped connecting to the network. It seems to not want to remember our wep key; we enter it in, it says "finding ip," and then sticks there. Also, it doesn't save the wep key when we go and check. Another symptom, whether this is related i'm not sure, but when we are on the screen with the field to enter in the wep, it occasionally exits from that screen without us pressing anything.
Attempted treatments: Rebooting the phone, disconnecting, turning wi-fi on and off, turning router on and off, forgetting network.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Maybe try a factory reset/data wipe?

Your say its running stock Android..which one? ed01,ed05,ect?

[Q] WiFi on, connected, full strength and not sending anything.

So I have my Fascinate running CM7 with the Glitch Kernel, no OC, just for the stock UV, the problem I have is that I can connect to WiFi, everything seems fine and then a few minutes later everything stops loading, as if there was no connection. turning off WiFi and turning it back on helps about 80% of the time but still an issue, the reason this is so big is that at my house we have no reception at all, Verizon sent us a Network Extender but it simply does not work on any phone and I know for a fact that my Network is fine. (We have twin N600s one routing one access point) Additionally the issue is at the local college as well. Any help? Is there an issue with CM7 or the Glitch kernel?
I am having the exact same problem. For example, market will stick at "Loading..." while on wifi but when I turn wifi off, my 3g connection will load market fine. It's so weird because I have full wifi signal and it is definitely not my router. It didn't start until I flashed the glitch kernel. Has to be something there. Maybe there is a workaround?
Im running glitch v13 and wifi works great. sometimes after a reboot ill have to toggle it off/on...

I had that Market problem and it disappeared when I got a new router. A full reset/wipe of router may have fixed it also. Happened on 2 CM7 phones (Droid2 and Fascinate), but not a stock 2.3 Droid2.
On my CM7 Fascinate, I usually also have to toggle wifi after reboot.

Is wifi in webOS supposed to be buggy as well?

So I know wifi in android is buggy, this isn't a question about that.
My Touchpad won't connect to my wireless network at work. (in webOS or android) It always fails the IP configuration part. My android phone connects fine, and my laptop, and my iPad.
Kind of kills the usefulness of the tablet for me. Wondering if I should call up HP before my 90days are up.
Thanks in advance
I have had no issues with webOS 3.0.2 or 3.0.4 at work or home (and I run a number of access points at both locations). Always connects by itself everytime. Too early to tell with 3.0.5 but no issues so far.
Have you tried other routers? It could be just some issue with your router. Have you tried to manually assign an IP, I know you can in android.

It connects to my home network fine, just not the work one. Tried manually assigning an IP and that didn't work in either OS. Going to install the update to webOS and see if that fixes things.
As poster above mentioned, corporate/work networks seem to be the only thing that webOS MIGHT not play well with occasionally. I've gotten it to successfully connect to my work's 802.1x EAP network. It actually worked quite well, but then sometimes it stumbles a bit before connecting.
For the most part though, webOS wifi works just fine. Of course, this is because HP dev'd it with the drivers they have, that we DONT have, and most likely will never have.
Wifi now connects on both OS's after updating webOS to 3.05
Lol go figure

It hasn't before for you? I'm curious about your experience.
The deal with Wifi in android is multi-faceted:
1. Accessing the wifi options sometimes crashes the thing, and you have to force close the settings app and try again.
2. With Wifi on, the wifi menu can be quite sluggish
3. A lot of times, it wont even scan for networks. It just says disconnected for ages, or will eventually scan, then try to connect, but never get past "Acquiring IP address".
4. A lot of times it will randomly lose its connection, yet still indicate that it's connected just fine. A toggling of the wifi usually fixes this, but also starts you at square 1 with attempting to connect to an AP. For some people, this process can be a nightmare.
5. Some people simply cannot connected to their secured network at all. Period.
Are you experiencing any of these issues still?

Before update:
never had any problems with wifi at all, except it just wouldn't connect to either of my two networks at work in either OS. Neither OS could get past the IP config stage. Tried manually assigning IPs in both OS's but that accomplished nothing. Home 5ghz network zero issues.
After update:
Instant connection, no issues.

[Q] Unable to connect to home wifi?

It was fine until last night...
I woke up this morning to find that my atrix had lost connection with home wifi, provided by ATT.
I tried to go back on, but it failed, as if I had got the password wrong (phone says its gaining IP address, turns wifi on and off, does the same thing again)
I tried rebooting the phone, retyping the password, which were an useless attempt.
Wifi itself seems like its, fine, since my mother's phone(Captivate) is going fine with it.
I can also connect to other wifi networks,
so I cant exactly see where the problem is.
My atrix is running on ATT, 4.5.91, rooted.
Thanks for your help beforehand!

Did you try telling it to forget the connection, then set it up again?
Have you tried rebooting your modem and router?
Many connection issues are solved by a simple reboot of all hardware involved.

Problem with cm9 and wifi

Hi i went from stock ics on my ray to cm9 by followingnexact step by step guide provided by cm9. Used their kernel as well. Have never modded my phone before. Having a small problem with wifi though. After my phone has been asleep for a while, if i wake it up the wifi icon in status bar is no longer blue its a dark grey and i can no longer browse anything or use the internet. Ive tried rebooting. I did the whole wipe cache etc when installing cm9. In wifi settings in advanced ive also left the setting to "leave wifi on when sleep" checked. If i turn off and on the wifi connection the phone ofcourse is able to reconnect again the icon is blue and i can connect. It not jsut a one off thing its been happening since i isntalled the rom.
If i wakek from sleep a few minutes later i have no issue with wifi. Its only when its been sleep for a while do i have this issue.
Any solutions?
I have the exact same problem but for me it's even bigger, whenever i turn on wifi on my modem, i can connect to internet on my phone, but after awhile i lose my connection completely, on my phone and on my pc also, the only way to get it back is to reset my router and wait for like 5-10minutes...

If its also an issue with your. Pc then your issue might be also the router.
My other devices actually work fine in my case its oky this phone that has issues. Macbook iphone ipad nexus s no problems with those.
Same issue here. I can see available networks but unable to connect. There should be no problem with the wifi router as all my other devices work well and I have tried another router. Now I have to flash back to stock firmware.

Your issue seems more severe than mine. Mine actually connects and works, just that when it wakes from long sleep it wont work until i turn off and on wifi.
I get this problem too, but my problem even worse than yours. My wifi lose it's connection after a while, but the icon on status bar shows it's connected, running ping test, browse, even play store can't be accessed. I pinged the router and got unreachable.
And yeah, this problem occurs when I'm using all ICS based rom..
Anybody has any idea if this is a known problem, or if its just us few having thisissue?

I have same problem. I have SE xperia mini with CM9. WiFi worked fine until yesterday. Now phone can't connect to AP (full signal - try connect -> signal drops down), but sharing 3G internet over WiFi works fine. I cleared dalvik cache, but that didn't help.

[Q] Wifi and data on at the same time, limited internet.

Rooted stock ROM Verizon I605 running 4.1.2.
I was in Korea for the past 6 months and just got back the other day. Before I left, I never had any problems, but since returning, my wifi and data are on at the same time, and it's causing me problems. Here's what's going on:
If I just have mobile data on, everything works as it should. If I turn on Wifi, it will connect, but the data connection will also remain, and my internet speeds will become spotty. If I turn on mobile data and just try to use wifi, the Wifi icon appears (with the orange/green arrows indicating activity), but apps don't connect. Facebook automatically tells me "No Internet connection," Opera won't load pages, Google Talk can't sign in, etc. If I turn mobile data back on, things work again, albeit slowly.
The strange thing is if I turn on Airplane Mode and then turn it off, leaving data off, my wifi will work 100% normally. If I try to turn on mobile data again, I get the same issue.
While I was away, I replaced the SIM card so I could use my phone over there. I messed with some APN stuff thinking I would be able to get data on my phone in Korea, but that didn't work out so I returned my APN settings to default. I have a feeling that's the source of my problems, but I have no idea how to fix it. I tried restoring my APN settings to default through the settings, but that didn't fix it either.
Any help at all would be appreciated!
If it helps I have been seeing the same thing. I'm on CleanRom 3.5 (Verizon Rom base) and PB&J kernel. It seems to be hunting between them even when in strong wifi signal.
Interestingly enough it's not doing it right now.
I'll keep a closer eye on it now.

In my case, it's a constant problem (unless I manually go into airplane mode, like explained). It doesn't work sometimes and not work other times.
I'm trying to use wifi at home, so signal strength isn't an issue either.
