Does the Free WIFI HotSpot require a custom ROM or does it just take rooting? Second questions is it possibly to Root the Sprint version yet?

this is exactly the question i need answered. i have rooted my phone, however i dont have hotspot access. i have also downloaded clockworkmod on my phone. how do i get the hotspot access? please help.

Hi. I'm a beginner of this tethering.
What I wanted to do was to install custom rom for froyo to my verizon samsung fascinate and use as personal hotspot.
I tried to understand/find how to do so but there are lots of look-a-likes in the forum.

sounds like your entire post was asking how to root...
as far as tethering goes, you do it at your own risk, but you can download Barnacle wifi tether, or whatever app of your choice. i use that one with my nook color

Well you lose the service from Carrier/Maker, but you can always UnRoot.
Get Community Rom by Adrynalyne, I believe that's the only ROM w/ 3G Hotspot glitch.
Hi, I have an x10, When i try to use it as a wifi hotspot my laptop will connect, but with no internet access. and while the hotspot is on the internet will not work on the x10 either.
Barnacle comes up with some sort of intializing error.
The phone is rooted and running 2.3.3.
Any help getting the hotspot working would be great, thanks.

try troubleshooting the problems
i can give you another option though.... you could install fxp125 cm7.2 i am using it and wifi hotspot works like a charm.....

I have tried an external app, as mentioned in my original post. (Barnacle)
not really wanting to flash a new rom, as its an x10i and dont want to lose any functionality.
but if it was the only way i would flash another rom.

it was on another network before we got the phone though, would that make a difference?
so, is there a fully working rom i can flash, doesnt need to be special. just a full reflash of the same android version with working everything.

Saferoot is your best bet.
Can't unlock bootloader
Knox Warranty Void flag is just that. It's a flag to let people know you did something Samsung did not want you to do (ie install a custom BL) and now your warranty is void.

Is there a way to do like a full back before ... like take a image of the device so it can be restored.
What's the best Rom ... Really looking to be able to wifi teather so when I ma at my lake house I can get internet on my laptop... Any Rom better at teather of is that just a app thing

To back up, install Safestrap recovery. Then you can take a nandroid of your stock phone that you can restore later.
I tether my phone on a stock ROM using the built in hotspot. WiFi tethering is free if you're not on an unlimited plan.
If you are on an unlimited data plan, then you just have to pay for it.
There are people who have figured out how to defraud VZ and tether on an unlimited plan, however.
This might b sort of a nuub question. I am currently using a Verizon note 2 on tmobile. unsure if the phone is unlocked I got it from a friend when I broke my gn3. All I did was insert my dime card and it worked had to change the apn to get data working bit everything works. When I turn on the phone I do get the pop up saying I'm using an un recognized Sim.
So on to my question. I want to root the phone should I use verizon roms and rooting methods apropreate to Verizon or should I u tmobile. Any help would b appreciated

Since you're using a Verizon Note2 SCH-I605, then you should stick with rooting methods/Roms for this specific device. Otherwise, I'm thinking you'll end up bricking the phone. You should be able to change the APN again just like you're doing now after you root and flash a custom ROM.
Also, if you're not familiar with the Note2, then spend time reading the Q&A and Development threads... especially the stickies. There are different rooting methods for different build versions. Android version 4.1.2 is the last build version for this phone where you can unlock the bootloader (with the CASUAL program). If you're still on 4.1.2, then don't update the phone to factory stock 4.3 or 4.4.2...because you'll permanently lock the bootloader. If you are on still 4.1.2 and you want to try out 4.3 or 4.4.2 ROM'S, there are ones in the development section that you can flash through custom recovery that won't lock the bootloader.
If it's on factory stock 4.3, you can use saferoot to root it, then use safestrap for custom touchwiz ROM'S. If you're on factory stock 4.4.2, you can root with ghettoroot, but no custom roms yet.

I have Samsung galaxy alpha g850a AT&T. My device is rooted. after rooting with King Root I deleted Tethering provision apk to enable WiFi Hotspot. I didn't made backup for that. Now I need that apk in nodded form, so that I can enable WiFi Hotspot. I'm not satisfy with Foxfi/Pdanet. If someone have modded apk or the original Tethering Provision apk kindly share. I'll be grateful for that favor.

I used Kingroot.
I tried to use the link to the version of Kingroot you posted via mega and it's encrypted - how about you help me get root so I can do some experimenting with this and help you
