Having problems with cyanogenmod CM7, very unreliable! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. Got the HTC Inspire 4G here with 7-07282011-NIGHTLY-DesireHD. It actually came with the phone. I like the root access, speed and tethering, but I am experiencing some MAJOR shortcomings with this ROM. Here is what the phone CAN'T do:
CAN'T sync with HTC Sync (not a HUGE deal)
CAN'T format an SD card (had to ask someone with a STOCK ROM to format it for me)
CAN'T stream my music (My playlists get deleted the minute I upload them to my SD card. I can do the .nomedia thing and open with JustPlaylists but that program falls on its face the minute I have the slightest network hiccup)
CAN'T MMS (although I am aware of the "workaround")
CAN'T clearly display contact pictures
Speakerphone is not much louder than simply not using it (this a hardware fault?)
I bought this to upgrade my HTC Tilt2 (I officially will NEVER buy another phone with Windows platform) but I feel like I have taken a major step backwards in technology. There are several threads out there from other users covering the same exact problems. Does the latest release fix these problems? I would like to stay with CM7 but not being able to copy my M3U playlists is a real deal breaker for me. I can't execute the simplest of tasks with a ROM that is supposed to be an upgrade to the phone.
I don't see any of these complaints in CoreDroid. Any constructive help out there as far as what I should do?

You could try flashing a new build of CM7. If that doesn't fix your problems (which it should), then just get a new rom.

you don't have a htc phone...

Bluetooth Profiles on Hero

Hi everybody.
I've read at a couple of places that the Hero does not include any sim / phonebook remote access profiles which means I cannot sync my contacts with my Parrot CK3100 car kit.
I'm wondering if anyone knows why HTC would have removed this profile from their build when it was working perfectly as part of the standard cupcake build.
And also whether it is likely that HTC will reinstate this profile through future updates?
Speculation or definite answers welcome!
I'm also having this problem, as well as getting the phone to automatically reconnect when the phone and handset find eachother. Any body any ideas?
Ask Google why they STILL haven't added a full BT stack. It's the same for both the HTC Dream and HTC Magic aswell. UNLESS you wander the way of the rooters ofcourse. Then you will be able to use all those nifty little tools only the rooters can use.
I think that Google is a little bit slow on this subject tbh. But then again I have no idea of what they prioritize either. Maybe they have a BT stack but they feel it has some serious security issues? ONLY Google knows. Well... a couple of XDA's hardcore hackers might know too... isn't Haykuro around somewhere?
I have rooted my phone (yesterday). Can anyone suggest any tools that may help with this? Appreciate any help anyone cab give!
no problems here
hello i have just got my hero and im still learning the in's and outs of the device as i have come from a WM device, but have loads of success so far.
I have a in car bluetooth system and i have no problems with connecting, and searching my sim card for contacts.
The problem i do have though is that it will not read my phone contacts just the sim.
Its not a big problem as i on a regular basis back up the phone memory to the sim anyway in case i have to switch phones.
Im not sure why you guys are having problems but im happy to help in anyway.
I haven't rooted my device as i see no reason to just yet its all stock, and runs like a dream.
I have a ford mondeo with the STD sony system in it if that helps, oh and it connects as soon as i get in the vehicle
I think I may have cracked this:
I stuck a random contact on my SIM card, the Parrot handsfree now finds all of the contacts on the phone, and automatically links to the phone when in proximity. Odd, but adding that contact seems to have unlocked remote sim access.
Give it a try!
same here ... added one contact onto my sim, then full access to contacts!
Works very well with the Land Rover Bluetooth PTI (designed by Nokia as it happens). Full contact list navigation on the stereo head unit.
I am having a similar issue with an in car BT head unit. I have a Pioneer DEH-P7100BT. I have had problems connecting the hero to this. It starts contacts download and stops at contact number 14 for some reason. I have tried to delete the 14th contact but still gets stuck at 14. I have all my contacts backed up on the sim as well.
It is also proving to be an issue automatically connecting to the head unit when I get into the car. I resolve that by switching the BT off and then on again, then it connects OK. Not ideal.
The wifey has an Iphone 3GS and that connects to the unit every single time. No connection issues at all.
The BT Audio option works a charm with both the Hero and the 3GS. I usually play Last FM and Imeem over 3G and stream via BT to the head unit, pretty cool over all, if only I could sort out the connection issues with the HERO.
I just got the hero a couple of days ago, and although I am loving it, I really cant stand the lag in absolutely everything. I am having problems even accepting calls sometimes as it realises I have just clicked the receive call button after 10 seconds or so.

Mine does it the opposite way - reads the phone memory and not the sim memory. It's taken me 2 days to complete changing the profiles of people so far as I couldn't figure out why active sync wasn't working.

The other party can't hear me clearly. No high-frequency

Hello everyone. We got 5 phones during the holidays from Microsoft retail store in LA. Right after we put our sim cards and start using our phones all of us realized that other party can't hear us clearly (as an example when I use my AT&T Tilt 2 other party can hear me way better). Looks like the microphone cuts all high-frequency sounds. Either it's a microphone problem (could be defected batch) or some other settings. We've already checked all possible settings with no success. Does anybody else having the same problem?
Other than that phone is really awesome!
OS version: 7.10.7720.68
Hardware version: 0002
Radio: 16.23.02.26_A_16.27.00.23U
Any suggestions?
Nobody else experiencing this problem?
Is it possible that something is wrong with this particular batch?
TITAN - Lousy Sound Quality - Other Party Can't Hear . . .
I also have most people I call tell me I sound all distorted, (Or occasionally worse.) When I have someone call from my phone to a land line, to me the receiving sound has a buzz, almost tinitus, frequency shifts, & sometimes pulsing of the signal. Don't know if this might be the microphone, transmission, or what, although it seems consistent to my Titan, Occurrs in many places . . .
I'm surprised that no one else (except you) seem bothered. I tried unchecking the signal boost / loudness check, but to no avail.
Any suggestions? How is the sound quality you others are getting? Hope it is just a bad unit that I can swap Friday, or else I'll go back to my HTC AT&T Tilt-2, (the titl-2 is a much inferior phone, but with decent sound.)
My gilfriend constantly complains that she cant hear me too well. I think its because the phone is pretty long and the mic is right on the bottom. She can hear me better when i put the bottom part closer to my mouth. Its quiet annoying. I dont think its call quality but just bad positioning of the mic by htc.
@artzznyzz Where did you buy your phone?
UPDATE on bad / inferior Titan Sound Recepton:
Following a suggestion, I un-set (TURNED OFF) my attentive phone 'flip for speaker' option, so as to NOT automaticially go to speaker only when turning phone over & setting it down for hand free use during a call. This seemed to help some. (But a drag as this was a very nice touch - Most of my usage is in office / for business)
Per 'Cubanaso', above, I am also being more attentive to not holding the phone at the top where the antena may be, and also holding it lower so as to speak nearer the microphone on the bottom edge of the phone. (Why the heck did HTC place the main voice microphone so far out of the line of normal user speach? Maybe an attempt to save $ & go with only one microphone for both normal handheld usage, and also for face down on the table hands free usage? It would seem better to have two good mics, and via software use one for main speach, and the other for noise cancelling input, depending upon orientation.)
(This specialized custom grip is a pain because of aviding so much 'verbotten' contact with the phone - Can't touch the top off/on switch, nor the camera button, nor cover the microphone, nor where the micro-USB charger is attached. Too many restrictions, until new habits are learned . . .)
Anyhow, some more minor improvement, but still inferior sound quality for the person being called (whether they are on their own other cell or landline.)
BALMADOR: I bought mine at the AT&T corporate store on Main St. in White Plains NY. The sales kid, and contract, both promised a 30 day return period.
I am surprised that, of the (presumably) thousands of Titans out there, there are so few complaints about sound quality. Maybe I / we just have the rare problem ? ? ?
Any other insight from HTC, Google, or other web sites, etc.??? (I already checked WPCentral.com, and nothing more there . . .)
There are a few other problems, although not as major as this:
- Some phone numbers within given contacts (entered in outlook 10/ exchange 10) do not display on the the Titan. Seems to be 'Car', and others . . .
- Want access to the file storage space to set up directory structure for downloaded files (like the windows subdirectory structure & access), rather than just dump them into a single place managed by the system, without any identifiers other than the file name.
- The sync & skydrive of files seems random &/or flakey - We do not have the time to debug this.
- The HTC / AT&T issue standard documentation is superficial. (Also there is no WIKI, or no easy to access WIKI yet on XDA Developers, or I can't find it . . . Suggestions ? ? ?)
- Finally, Office Mobile seems generally flakey. For example, - Seems impossible to read & edit any file formats prior to office 2010, - Very difficult in Excel to highlight and drag a several cells, - can't figure out how to copy & paste reliably, etc., etc. . . .
Summary - I want to like & keep the Titan (another unit) so I am still inclined to try an exchange, or return the phone. Does anyone else have any further suggetions? (Maybe wait & try the Lumina 800 some day - What system will that be on, Verizon or AT&T ? ? ?)
Thanks, Art
not a rare problem
I was constantly told that I sounded "muffled" or "like I was underwater".
....I took my phone to be replaced for a new device....I guess I'll see how it goes.

If you have already exchanged it, can you tell if your new phone doesn't have this problem?

I'm considering this as well as my titan is muffled on caller's end on about half of the calls to an unacceptable level.
Please update us on the results of a swap
Update re Sound Issue - Exchanged Unit : - )
Total fustration, so yesterday I went back to the AT&T corporate store (where I had upgraded from the Titl-2 to the Titan) and traded the Titan in for a new unit.
The trade in transaction took an hour ++, because the staff, although very friendly, cooperative and sincere, had no experience with the Titan (and I have a lot on my phone.) The store did not have or was missing the bluetooth dongle needed for content transfer, etc, etc, etc . . . But we got it done, thanks to my Exchange for Outlook, and e-mail for a few business photos, etc.
Anyhow, after 24 hours, it seems to be night and day on the sound issue - Extremely good, (except in very noisy environments); very loud both ends, better / tolerable connections in a few fringe areas where I had trouble with old Titl-2, No complaints on early test calls, etc, etc. I'll update y'all after several more days of experience . . .
So, Status Quo:
- My Titan is a very good phone (only) and decent electronic rolodex, with pretty good mapping / traffic / gps.
But:
- Lots of nagging ??software?? issues, some mentioned in prior post above. These problems seem like quality control programming bugs which should not have gotten through, and should be easy to fix. (Hope so as I really like this phone for my heavy business use!) More to follow.
HELP:
- How about a WIKI page for the Titan P139100 to organize the list of defects needing improvement, and most important, to supplement the superficial HTC / AT&T documentation, user guides? (lots of these problems may be mere lack of information & training for us users . . .)
I've tried to set up the WIKI page, with no luck. Maybe one of you with more experience can either get it started, or private message me with a little guidance . . .
Thanks
Arthur

I appreciate your feedback and it is encouraging to know that another handset might fix my issue (call quality) with the device. thanks! Think I might try to swap out for another unit when my local store gets more in
OTOH, I don't understand your transfer issues. Do you not have all of your photos and music synced with Zune? also do you have a live account where all of your contacts and calendar is saved?
I don't use Exchange server so maybe it's different but I walked into a store and swapped devices last week (Focus S) and stood there and reset (wiped out) my phone, typed my live account on the new device and walked out of there with all of my contacts calendars and email on the new phone instantly. plugged it into Zune when I got home and had photos and music back as well.
Went online to Windowsphone.com and clicked on all the apps I had previously installed and they too were put back on the phone
For everybody who having problem with the microphone.. I just spoke to HTC Hardware Department. They even not aware of this problem. Please call them and let them know. So at lease they will add this to the known issue list. Their phone # is: (866) 449-8358
For what it's worth, I just got my phone this past weekend. I've only had a few calls so far and no complaints from anyone. I have asked everyone I talked to if they could hear me okay and there was no problem.
I bought mine from a large retailer which hopefully means they go through a lot of Titans and I got a good one.
I did play a video from GoPro today and when I max'd the volume, it was distorted and had static. Haven't had the problem with other vid's so I am assuming it was the vid and not the speaker on the phone.
Decent phone. I was about to blow up when I realized that Outlook Sync was gone but after playing with it for a few hours, I was able to get the Windows Live connector to do it's thing for me. Not 100% happy but pretty close.
Same problem here
I have the same problem. I love the titan, but I have to fix this issue (or return the phone) for the sake of my relationship and work.
It seems as if the noise cancellation software is dumbing down the highs of my voice (it sounds like I am underwater). I haven't experience this problem when using Tango to video chat. I've also read that the problem doesn't exist while recording a video. Just a heads up, people have been posting about this issue in the wpcentral forums. I'm new to the forum, so I can't post links.
Here are the links to WPCentral forum:
http://forums.wpcentral.com/titan/184444.htm
http://forums.wpcentral.com/titan/184445.htm
I've also posted in this HTC forum:
http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/windows-phone/f/174/t/14751.aspx
Please put your comments as well. We need HTC's attention to this problem. Now we almost sure that it's not a mic problem (thanks to TANGO). Somehow dialer/phone software (noise cancellation or coding or any other filtering) and may be camera's part are not performing as needed on some units. And it should be fixed or patched.
Just a thought that might help with diagnosing the problem. I have a wired hands free headset (don't like any of the bluetooth devices from inexpensive to way over priced) and if you think it's the microphone or software for noise reduction is the problem, I bet you could try a wired headset and see it the trouble persists. If so, I would go get a replacement phone.
Just a thought.
Can someone who doesn't experiencing a "muffled" effect send me a private message with his phone # so we can make a couple test calls? That way we can really compare and make a better statement.
I've bought a titan for my wife, and had these same mic issues, she sounds muffled, recessed, underwater, got her a plantronics 975, and call quality went from bad, to terific.
Something is definately up with the mic/software on these things. I got the UK version from Clove.
I've since bought a second device for myself, and call quality is horrible, lots of chopping out, bad signal, bad reception. I was later told by my service provider, its a problem with their HSPA network, and the TITAN was not tested on it and may not be properly supported, i swithced off the 3g radio and sure enough all my problems went away, perfect call quality and reception, but no 4g? Sucks. They say they need to do patches on their network before the phone will work properly. But that seems to be a spereate issues, the mic stuff defiantely needs to be addressed. or we all use bluetooth!

Maybe I should factor in my location to the lack of problems with my phones audio quality. I live in the Dallas area, home of AT&T, and it's possible the network has been upgraded here and when I travel outside of this area, the quality will suffer as many of you have reported. This could be why some are not having troubles and others are.

[Q] I wanna buy a tablet s but have a few questions

hey,everybody.
I am going to buy a sony tablet s1 in China, but here I have a few questions.
1. sb told me that tablet s has a very bad wifi signal, even worse than HTC HD2. is that ture?
2.Google news says that in the lastest upgrade to angdroid 4.0, the sd card could be used as the external storege like other tablet.Really?
3.I am now in China, many people say that the Tablet S Chinese Version reduce a lot of functions.I wonder if I can flash the US rom to recovery them?
thx~~!!
I can only reply to Q1 here.
I've just got the S1 and I don't know why so many people are moaning about the Wifi.
The thing that it does is when put onto standy it swtiches off wifi and when you awaken it again you get a couple of seconds delay before reconnecting. Sometimes you get it taking longer, but that is very rarely.
Wifi signal is also nice and strong in my house, much better than my Nexus S wifi signal.
Cheers.
what Warren_Orange said is absolutely right. No issue to wifi. Tablet S can connect back the wifi very easily and fast after the screen black out.
answer to your no 2 q, we can access to sd card music/video using the default players after ICS upgrade.
Agreed with other users on Q1: I've rarely had any problems with my WiFi so I'm not sure what other users are complaining about.
Q2: That's the case. The original 3.2-based ROM did not include this fully as the external SD card was mounted at /mnt/sdcard2 and could only be accessed by third-party apps. With the ICS upgrade, it is now accessible via the stock apps.
Q3: I can't be certain, but this should be possible. Condi's all-in-one tool includes a region change function, which would then allow you to install that new region's ROM updates. Unless the hardware is different, it shouldn't be a problem.

Any SIII Hardware Issues?

I hate to ask this but after returning my HTC One X back and while waiting for a refund which I don't even know if I'll ever get, I better ask this question before doing the same mistake again. Well, I returned my HOX because GPS was unusable. Not just on my phone, basically HOX doesn't really have GPS. It only has it as a decorative feature but there is no way you can use it for navigation. Such issue definitely can't be fixed with a software fix so I decided to return it and see forward to SG SIII.
What I wanted to ask is, are there any serious hardware issues with SIII as well that should stop me from buying it? I don't mean issues like instability (or network errors) with S-Voice and similar things that could be solved in the near future with software updates. I mean real hardware issues like the one I described above that make you believe they won't ever be fixed because it's impossible.
Now I come from HTC only background so I may miss some things from Samsung. I therefore need to ask the following simple questions as well:
- Does Samsung offer a sync software similar to HTC Sync? (That will allow you to sync with Outlook)
- Is the SGSIII fully rootable (with S-OFF bootloader)
- 2-way call recording works (is there a kernel hack or does it work/not by default)?
- Anyone used iGo navigation with success?
Those are my requirements so if it fulfills them and there are no issues, that's enough for me to buy this phone.
Thanks
Just like to join in as I am wondering the same things, for the same reasons. Except I'd say GPs absolutely does work in the One X, so I suspect you had the antenna disconnection problem. Mine was in for repair 4 times for this (WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS) and on the 5th incident I asked for a refund. HTC have actually said this is a known problem they can now fix.
Otherwise, just like to watch this thread while I also wait for a refund..
All the problems I've noticed are all software related and heard no real complaints about hardware except for some occasional whining about design and the back cover being a bit fragile, and the GPS is by far the best I've ever used for lock speed and indoor/blocked reception.
So far I've had 0 hardware issues. You seem like GPS functioning well is what you are wondering as well? I have the Navigon app and have used it with data turned off and GPS+data and both work great I was a bit worried coming from the S2 as I found it's GPS to be spotty at best.

Fully rootable but not with HTC tools .

iGO works just perfect for me.
Hi
I returned 4 HOX'S for various problems, so I got the galaxy s3, had it for 4 weeks and had no issues, fantastic phone, I use endomondo all the time again no issues with GPS. In the last 8 months I've had 9 different phones to try and find the right one and this is a keeper.
Hope it helps....
I recently "defected" from HTC to this, my first Samsung.
I would like to address the question about Sync'ing with Outlook.
The wretched application provided by HTC for this purpose always annoyed me. It had the nasty habit of modifying contact details and appointments in Outlook even though I had carefully set it not to touch them.
The equivalent program for Samsung (KIES) is not perfect, but it Sync'ed my Outlook contacts perfectly with no undesirable side-effects.
I'm really glad I switched to the GS3.
For such a leading-edge product that has not been released very long, there are surprisingly few bugs. GPS is the best I've ever seen (and I've seen a few!)

LG V60 (AT&T) Music Issues

Hi everyone and thanks in advance to anyone who can help me!
I hate to be one of those people who asks what might be stupid questions without having any technical expertise. But yeah, I'm pretty clueless and have never really gotten into the inner workings of smart phones. I never really required much from phones before, so I've never had any real issues that bugged me. Some setting-up-the-scenario info: Since I started seeing info about this phone, I was really intrigued - mainly because of its music capabilities, which is what supposedly sets it apart from the rest. I read and heard SO many good things about it, and I've never had a portable music player work as well as I thought it should. So I took the plunge without having the disposable cash to actually buy a new one. I got a "renewed" one from the big A, and even though it was advertised as a T-Mobile version (which is the carrier I use), I received the AT&T version. It works fine on T-Mobile so I'm ok with it despite the AT&T software on it. The phone works well and is in great condition. But this issue I'm having is frustrating me, and I don't think it's carrier-specific (though I know the different versions can have different limitations on what can be done with them).
Here is the issue, and some of what I've dealt with in trying to research and solve it... Whether using the headphone jack (with or without enabling the DAC) or using Bluetooth or the phone's built-in speakers, songs will skip, stutter, stop and start over, move on to another song and then go back to the previous song, then stop and play an entirely different song. Sometimes it will just put out a string of noise for a second like it's on super fast-forward at a painfully loud volume. Some songs will never play properly, which could be a corrupt file issue, but others will often be fine and only mess up occasionally. None of them seem to be immune to it. This is a problem I'd say 80-90% of the time.
I have a lot of music, and I have it all on an SD card. It's a recent, higher quality SD (Samsung or the like) that's 128 GB. I prefer it that way since I don't want to fill up the phone's storage space. I've seen some posts online about this kind of issue on other phones, but not much usable info. Searching here didn't bring any results. One person with a different phone found a fix by moving his music app to the SD card as well, but alas that doesn't seem to be possible with this phone as there seems to be no way to change the download location to the SD card and I can't move the app from the phone's location for it. I've seen info (for other phones) about using the phone to reformat the SD card as "internal storage" to bypass that, but this phone only formats an SD card to be usable for multiple devices and not as part of the phone's internal storage. I'm in the process of trying to copy all of the music files to the phone's internal storage to see if that helps, but it's far from ideal for me and it's taking forever. I will update if it makes a difference, but I really don't want to do it this way because I won't have room for anything else. I guess if anything it might clue me in to whether the card itself has problems, but I'm optimistically doubtful about that. And maybe once I have the files copied I can reformat the SD card with the phone again, retransfer the files and see if that helps. Also doubtful but maybe? Also, the phone will only transfer the files using the Google files app - not the LG files app. Kind of odd, but whatever.
Oh, and I don't have the dual screen, so that wouldn't be a factor in this (if it could have been).
My questions then are:
1. Has anyone dealt with or heard about this music playing problem, and have any ideas about fixing it?
2. Does anyone know how to change the download location on this phone to the SD card?
I'm super frustrated because I really want to like this phone, and so far other than having generally better sound and being a little faster and nicer to look at I was almost just as happy with the crappy old cheap Huawei I had before. Any help would be much appreciated!
It seems to be an audio player problem rather than a phone issue. Try black player, it works very well with all the V serie, had it on the V20, have it on my V60. And its one of the best and good lookin' player in theplay store. The basic version is free and is fully fonctionnal so you can try it and if it does not resolve your issue, desintall it.
Thanks for your reply. I'm not having any luck and I'm thinking it's either just a lousy phone despite all the great reviews out there, or maybe the AT&T version is what's lousy. I pulled out the SD card and loaded a bunch of music directly onto the phone and sill have the problem. I tried Black Player (which I like), and the problem happened on the first song I played and has happened quite a bit since then too. The files are a mix of formats, all higher-quality, and format doesn't seem to make a difference on whether the issues arise or not. Don't know what else to do.
