But how did they port it to HD2 and N1?

I dont know about the N1 an HD2 ports but i think they suffer from the same problems as the DHD port:
No phone
Very laggy
Loads of missaligned stuff on the screen
Loads of things just not working

They are ports of the SDK. Ports of the SDK are generally barely usable with lots of bugs. Also, it takes a tremendous amount of effort to iron out this bugs. This is one reason why there isn't a SDK port for sgs2. Its simply much easier to port it if the source code was available (which it isn't btw)

Sense HD?

Hi
I am only getting this phone because it is the best specification phone I haven't tried the touch Whizzo but HTC make the best software but not phones unfortunately
So I am asking will any1 be able to port sense HD?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Well I've made a Sense theme for CM7, so as soon as the Galaxy S2 gets CM7, which I'm sure will happen fast, you can use the theme on it... far easier than porting a sense rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11660869
edit: then again, you still won't have sense app enhancements and stuff, but something is better than nothing right?
why does everyone want this.. the phne is not even out yet.. if you really want sense go buy a htc phone ad quit whinning.
thanks for the theme,
and yeah i do have a htc phone but this samsung galaxy s 2 has the best specs than any htc phone so this phone combined with htc sense will be a beast!
Does any one think this can happen?

Sense is overrated.
Yes you should be able to use HTCs Sence UI because Exynos is using NEON whereas Tegra2 doesnt.
Depends which 1 phones 4 u supplies because there are to versions

Meh, I was never too fond of Sense. Using my friend's Inspire for a few minutes though, I found that it was nicer than all of the other stock launchers.
I didn't like not being able to edit the total number of screens though.
I too, am interested in this. It gives people options so why not port Sense over? I want to see whether they can port all those cool features over like flipping their phone over to silence a call or ringing louder in a bag.
What about sense 3.0 the sgs2 with the new sense will be amazing

No please not the disney version of sense.
Don't get me wrong, but those colors on the sensation....brrrr..... welcome to disney.
I would really love to see a Sense port but it will be very hard to port it... the only successful ports are for devices with identical specs - example Sense from Desire on Nexus One...
There was a port for the Galaxy S but it had too much things that don't work and were very hard to solve (as Sense and drivers are not open source)...
Loved sense on windows mobile especially combined with the white GTX theme on my hd2,
but can't say I'm a big fan of it on android. Weird, I know, or maybe not so weird,
since I like a minimal clean look better, not screens cluttered with widgets.
Am tied in between in getting a sensation or sgs2 hardware wise galaxy s 2 wins but HTC sense is far better than touch wiz that's why we need a port

I'd like to see a sense port. However only for the sake of having a bigger variety of roms to flash.
I found that when I had my Inspire that Sense was way to bloated for me. I gave it a fair shot but for now I prefer TW over Sense. But AOSP > Any carrier software.
I would just stick with TouchWiz or go for AOSP if possible. Sense looks cool and all, but a port is as easy as it seems. More so, theming will be the solution for time being.

It also would be impossible to fit a rom the size of the sense 3.5 or 3d on our system partition. Someone would have to cut it in half.

It's a SDK port, we allready have one of those, and it's terrible :/ Since the source for HC never was releasesed and it's aimed for tablets, it's useless on phones
Now I have another question...what's the different between sdk port and rom port?
Sent from my Hero using XDA
A ROM-port usually have all the functions implemented.
The SDK-ports are made for emulators, and therefore lots of stuff are missing from them
Thx for the answer

it is possible... theres somebody on the evo 3D doing it, same chipset so its not a far fetched idea.....whether we get a working version, who knows, we'll have to wait for the cm team like last time and they never do things without source, and if anybody wants to port it via SDK, good luck i guess cuz i dont think anybody tried SDK ports for ICS on the touchpad

don't be saying things down that road lol...you'll get alot of backlash like the e3d forums.....froyo to gingerbread wasn't a huge step but it took people a very long time. Lets just wait for source to be out next month it isnt a very long time. Then since the base framework is similar, it won't take that much longer then it should. I'm more interested in the PDK feature which gives basic source codes for the hardware side of things, exciting times

Porting anything from the SDK has always been horrible, its not that easy and even if it were that isn't to say it'll be any good.
Remember those SDK ports of Honeycomb...horrendous. There's a reason nobody bothered with an SDK port of ICS for the Touchpad...there terrible.
I'm fine with just waiting until source code is ready. Unlike the switch from GB to ICS on a tablet which was huge, JB isn't really groundbreaking. It has some nice new features but after playing around in the SDK for a while I didn't really see anything that I couldn't wait a few months for.

I understand it perfectly......it is a small step yes, but in the grand scheme of things when you get an SDK port, when has it always worked perfectly?? If we're testing proof of concept here i can understand but you people want jelly bean to use straight away and to tinker with it. Devs I think have lives and if someone wanted to do it, they would've done it by now cuz its already being booted (albeit black screen) on the one x. Instead of the frustration of porting something using SDK they'd rather wait for source, because then people will start complaining that "this doesn't work, that doesn't work" so on and so forth
Anyone else think it's weird how they went back to the phone layout for the nexus 7? Will it be that way on larger tablets? I'm not a huge fan of how notifications work on my touchpad but the controls may be hard to reach if they go with a phone layout.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I'd like to mess with SDK port. If a dev would do it. The port for one x has already been updated. They are really going at it...even if they know it wont ever fully work. Maybe they are just getting head start on development.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
its a waste of time. why would any dev spend their time on it,just to have to start over when the real source
comes out.
Why don't you ask the one x dev working on SDK port why he is deving it? Jb source will be out in 2 weeks.

People do it because they want to. Why should that affect others?

while the current tablet ui layout is mostly functional, its not very pretty and a bit disjointed when coming from a phone version of android. it also doesnt allow manufacturers to put physical buttons on a tablet without them being redundant, and is called fragmented when compared to the ios on the iphone to ipad. it wouldnt surprise me if they went with this design as their new tablet layout. and it probably wouldnt be as bad as you think. with future cm9 or aokp customizations, youll probably be able to adjust the positions of the nav bar however you want.

I've long thought that the tablet UI for large tablets makes a lot of sense as if straddles the ground between desktop and phone quite nicely. Google aren't making the Nexus 7 UI default for these tablets either, if you emulate a touchpad withe the sdk then you get the UI we have now. On my small A100 the layout is pretty poor, and of course the resolution isn't all that great either but it's so crowded. The Nexus 7 UI works out nicely for smaller screens I think

Yeah I tried a Galaxy tab 7 at the store yesterday and the ics tablet mode is a little tight. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad thing for a 7" tablet.

Does that mean that all the work that has been done so far to get a working camera and microphone on ICS for the TP will go to waste with a new firmware?

No, it shouldn't be a waste. ICS is 4.0.x, JB is 4.1.x and is a refined ICS. So all the progress should be able to migrate over.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S3

For the people who have already hacked their Samsung, how do you then compare it with a hacked HTC Desire in terms of using themes and using ROMToolbox and using other custom roms?

The Galaxy S3 has a ton of custom Rom options ranging from CM 10 and other AOSP ROMs to Touchwiz ROMs, you won't get any Sense ROMs (But I believe someone is working on a Sense port) like the HTC Desire. It also has good support for ROMToolbox theming in addition to this there are tons of amazing stand alone themes for the Galaxy S3.

Cheers mate. I am due a free upgrade next month and I wasn't sure if i should have the Samsung S3, or HTC Windows.
Also, I was thinking of downloading the utorrent app to my Desire, but on my windows PC i use UniversalTcpipPatch-X64.exe to change the default setting from 10 to 80. Is there something similar I can use for my Desire to speed up downloads?
