[Q] Manual Data Programming for VZW on Fascinate - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I was running Community Rom on my Fascinate when one of my friends decided it would be cool to stick it in Korea Mode in the DialCode Hidden Menu. Since then my data connection has been non-existant. Verizon refuses to help me saying they don't know how to do manual data programming on devices (Three times). I unrooted it, restored 2.2 to still no avail. Is anyone able to help me restore my data connection with manual programming? I've searched and scoured the web, but still I find nothing. Thank you.

I would start from sticking your phone into your friends... ear...
Then asking him loud about new phone for you.
Frankly I do not know how to help you, but I have seen app called Nitrality which has bunch of hidden codes. I assume you can ask on their forum, because these people sure have to know it. Thought to run it you need to be rooted.

Have you tried to Odin a VZW ROM with pit, and repartition and full reboot after? Should get you back to English (American)
Then you just have to go through the process of flashing com ROM again.

I did Odin a VZW Android 2.2 rom w/pit back onto it, however I had re-partition unchecked. Would this make a difference? I have been trying to figure this out for nearly a month now and it's driving me crazy.

I believe when you Odin the pit file you should have repartition checked.

Doing that right now with Re-partition checked. We'll know in about 3 minutes.

No good. Still no mobile data connection. It seems like even though we're wiping the phone clean, the programming settings still remain the same. Any other suggestions?

Does anyone know where to find the values for data programming for VZW ? I think that's what this will come down to if all this hasn't done the trick.

Quick update: Flashed CM7 to the phone (why not at this point?) and my 3G data seems to connect, disconnect, connect, then disconnect again. Not sure if this would help, but it seems it's trying to do something.

Assuming u have tried *228 and option 1 to re-program your phone...if that doesn't work...I believe when you reset to factory settings via the settings / security or what ever menu it is...it reboots and asks for activation...I have only been able to clear out the phone to the activation screen by using that setting.
However, I have to mention, I played around with the hidden dial codes menus in TSM Parts once and accidentally clicked something I shouldn't and lost my data connection. No matter what I reset or flashed, I did not restore it. I called Verizon, they went through dial *228 option 1...turn phone on and off..etc...they asked for the software version...and sent me a replacement device....U have to be on the newest stock un-rooted rom when you call them (ED05)..any other version they will simply say that will have to update before they will help u.
Do not tell Verizon that u were playing with programming menus or custom roms as this breaks your contact agreement to modify your phone and they will say its your fault and will not help u at all. They may even charge you a fee or something or threaten to cancel you account if they find out you are "hacking" your phone. Verizon is becoming increasingly picky and strict on this issue...It's stupid I know, but its the hoops you have to go through...

Have you tried an ESN swap?
Turn your phone off, take an old phone and *228 option 1 and activate it. Wait about 5 minutes and then repeat the process the other way around (Turn off the old phone and reactivate your fascinate).
This worked for me when I played around in hells kitchen (hidden menu).
Hope it works

None of these things have worked. ESN swap used to work but it doesn't rewrite the phone's programming info. Sad to say, but it's time to retire my Fascinate. Unless someone wants to provide the values to manually enter into the programming menus, I suppose I'm SOL. Thanks for all your suggestions. I appreciate it.

Figured as much...only a replacement worked for me...but mine is still under warranty...learned my lesson...stay away from the Hidden menus... they are hidden for a reason...
Maybe time to convert the Fassy to a an android media player...the sound quality with this phone chipset is better than my $200 Cowon J3..especially with CM7/MIUI and the DSP manager app...rocking bass...and ...you can't beat the OLED screen...thats my new life for my fascinate when i eventually upgrade to a newer phone sometime..

I have to ask just to be sure: you're not just looking for the dial codes to get back into the hidden menu, are you?

Did some digging and found this
http://www.fanofandroid.com/2011/03/how-to-manually-program-samsung.html
MDN is your 10 digit phone number, MIN should be the same thing.
The SID on the other hand I am not certain on finding that. I have read that you can find it through debug mode if you can switch the device to analog mode but I don't think that will work for newer devices.
If someone is feeling friendly at your local cell shop they may be able to find it for you though.
Just trying to help out, hate to see someone have to ditch a good phone for something silly

Jazz, I have used the dial codes and direct access from the Rom thru TSM parts. I am not well enough versed in debugging with a computer.
Monster, these are instructions to activate a phone. It's the same as dialing *228. This is actually how we used to activate Sprint phones until they came out with the automatic programming. It however won't provision the data programming.

Oh well, not a pro by any means here just bored at work /troll lol
Can't do much else (no time to dev or theme) so I try to contribute something

No Data..?(3G,2G,Any G)

So.. I might be the only one experiencing this but i haven't had any data since i flashed asop newest rom... re-flashed, called vm, bought the new $199 phone, called again and they told me to wait 48 hrs..? Has anybody else experienced this dreadful b/s?
Thanks!
Did u have data before you flashed? Was your phone activated? What recovery are you using? If I recall correctly, in the ROM thread there are a few suggestions to getting it working again; such as going into emergency programming mode or something like that, as well as re-flashing the stock ROM, activating, then flashing.
Have you setup the APNs after flashing?
I use a tool called "APN backup and restore".
If the APN is already installed and not working, try switching to airplane mode and back.
If it is not installed, you will need to set it up either through you service provider or manually. (I don't know what your carrier is).

Lol well most everyone on here with the Optimus V will be on Virgin Mobile.
I had a problem like this - tried everything - reloaded old nand ... etc. A person on another board suggested installing a data switch app and turning it back on. I thought this was crazy but I did it (desperate) and it worked.
Sorry did not know that you have Optimus V. Any way most service providers have some way to send you the settings files. Some through a service request page online or an SMS no. To request the settings from.
I have seen a link on customer support of samsung the gives you manual settings for all networks around the world, I just can not find it now.

I did have data before i flashed.. called VM again and they sent me a 3G reset but that did nothing.. I'm using thnderc recovery and asop lastest rom, I will try a few things that where pointed out to me and update on my progress.. thanks for the feedback!
I'm having the same problem with my Optimus V, and looking on the interwebs it seems to be a known problem, that possibly affects all of Virgin mobile smart phones. I just end up going into settings and turning off/on the data connection. This always fixes it, until the next day or so when it happens again. Pretty frustrating. The LG forums even admit it's an issue and posted on this thread: LG forums about data issue but no actual fix as of yet.
And I'm actually still running stock on it, so it's not a custom ROM issue.

[Q] Can't use anything but wifi, please help!

I was playing with the *#*#4636#*#* menu in CMX and changed my band to Australia. I then lost all connectivity but wifi. I figured I'd just nandroid back to my fully functioning CMX - I was wrong. After restoring the nandroid, the phone still won't connect to anything but wifi.
I then saw this post and flashed meanbean to use the Sense dialer.
None of the instructions worked! When I try to ##786# reset all my data, the phone will do its thing and then boot back up into meanbean and ask me sign in to my accounts.
The DEVICE_PROVISIONED=1 doesn't exist in my build.prop as seen in this post so I can't use the simple method. :crying:
Any help is greatly appreciated. I only have wifi while I'm at work, so in 5 hours I'll be screwed.
EDIT: Almost fixed it! I nandroided back to CMX and tinkered with some more advanced settings. I figured I can't hurt anything more than I have. It's now connecting to the network and 3G, but says it needs activated. Finally, progress!

Thanks guys, I did get it fixed. Once I got some sort of connection reestablished I needed to activate the phone. I called Sprint customer service from my work phone and they refreshed all my data/connections. That allowed me to connect to the network, but not use it (if that makes any sense). I then downloaded the deodexed stock rooted JB ROM from here. After flashing that and booting into it, it said "hands free activation" and then starting updating the PRL before asking me to set up my accounts.
Hopefully my story helps anyone who gets caught up in this issue.
One more thing, upon reinstalling my cmx nandroid, I checked the build.prop file and it had the DEVICE_PROVISIONED=1
I changed it and that's how I got the phone to reconnect to the network (still no use of the signal though at that moment). That's when I flashed to the stock rooted ROM and everything was fine from there.

Wi-Fi Problem Please help!

I've had the same problem with a different device, and never found an answer.
In fact, I trade that phone (Evo 3D) for this S2 (i777).
Heres the thing, for some reason my phone refuses to work on the school's wifi. Its annoying. On my last phone, I thought that it was just that phone, but apparently its not. Now I'm having the same problem on my S2. I can get notifications every now and then but cant use the wifi at all. Sometimes, randomly throughout the day, I can get about 1 - 5 minutes out of it, but then it just stops working again.
I kinda think it has something to do with my Gmail being synced or something, I really have no clue. It has the word "freaking" in it. I just dont think its a coincidence that BOTH phones in a row have the exact same problem. I didnt have the problem with any iPhone I've ever had.
I really need wifi, and I dont wanna get a new phone, so I would appreciate it a lot if some knew what this is about.
It connects and everything. Says it has great signal. Just doesnt work.
Im running the stable CM9.1, straight from the Cyanogenmod website. So its their kernel and all that good stuff. Android 4.0.4.
I know the ROM isnt the problem cause every ROM I flashed on my Evo didnt help at all.
Anyway, any help or tips anyone can give would be great. Thanks!
By the way, the wifi works perfectly fine every where else. Home, College, friend's house. etc.
You need to verify your school does not require special network settings or a proxy.
If you can see the network and connect then its just a settings issue. Have you tried reverting to stock?

I can connect just fine, as normal. It just doesn't allow me internet access.
By stock, do you mean the stock ICS Touchwiz? No. But I guess its worth a try. The only reason I didnt see that as a solution is because on my last phone, I had the same problem whether I was running stock or not.
It sounds like you need a proxy address to access the Internet at your school. Talk to the administrators of the network.

They have proxies restricted from what I know. I dont know too much about proxies, but I tried using a few different proxy apps and none of them worked.
And it doesnt do this to other peoples' phones. Why is it just mine? My other phone was an HTC on Sprint. It just seems like a weird coincidence that both phones have the same problem, and they're two completely different devices. That's why I thought it had to do with Gmail, I know that sounds stupid, but its the only thing the two phones have in common.

Two different phones and same issue. Friends phones work but yours doesn't. You have a PICNIC issue.
Problem in chair not in computer (phone). Talk to the network admin or help desk. You're probably using a wrong setting or password. The admin should be able to help you by looking at the logs.

I get what you're saying, believe me, but I just dont see how its a wrong setting. Its default settings ( until I tinkered around trying to fix it). I assume all of my less-knowledgeable friend's phones are default settings too. So it just doesn't seem to make sense that the default settings on two of my phones are the wrong settings, while every other phone seems to have it right to begin with.
I get what your saying, but I cant just talk to our Tech Guy at our school. It just doesnt work like that at my school. Lol. Thats why I'm asking for help on here.
And I dont think the multiple ROMs I've tried have the wrong defaults also.
Then sit down with a friend and make sure EVERY setting Is the same. Make sure you are both running android and using the same browser. If they are on CM too that would be best.
It sounds like something is blocking you from accessing the Internet while on the schools network. I don't think we will be of much help.

I can try the thing with my friend. Im just really the only one in my group of friends that's into, and actually knows a lot about Android devices. So they dont seem like much help. Haha.
And I was hoping people could tell me some ideas I havent tried yet. I know Android, but I dont know much about wireless networks and all that.
I'd love to help more, but since only one wifi network doesn't work for you it has to be something with that network.

Do you need to log in to your school's network? If so, when you enter your login id, if there's a line for anonymous id too, add your login id there as well. In other words, you have to enter your login id twice. Once where it says "login id" and again for "anonymous id."
If that doesn't work, what would help here is more info about how you connect (WPS, WPA, etc.).

It doesn't require me to log in at all. It worked perfectly fine on my old iPhone without having to log in. And it never redirected me in the browser. I've tried everything I can think of.
Proxies (Dont work)
I've tried static IP.
Factory resetting to stock Android (Every time I restart my phone it works for like a minute.)
BUT, I think I came across something. I compared my settings to a friend's, and his phone showed a different IP address. I'm still not sure if it was the IP to his phone, or to the school. How do I find out which IP is which?
Can anyone explain why it works for a minute or two and then stops?
Have you tried going to: Settings->wifi->advanced (you get to advanced by clicking the menu button) to make sure that:
Keep wifi on during sleep: ALWAYS
Avoid poor connections: UNCHECKED
Frequency band: AUTO
Wifi Region: United States
You may want to uncheck wifi optimization.
Oh, one other thing: you aren't using any battery optimization apps are you? JuiceDefender etc? If so, follow their instructions for uninstalling and uninstall!
Beyond that, I haven't got a clue. And no, your IP address has nothing to do with it. It should be different from your friend's.

[Q] 3g problem for my htc evo v 4g/3d

Hello. Im having problems with my Evo. 3g data isnt working. virgin mobile refused to help me because the guy i was talking to is either untrained or an idiot. but anyways i just activated my phone again after it was cancelled. i didnt have it activated for over 5 months or so so it got cancelled and i was provided a new number. before i activated it on virgin mobile again i was thinking of going to metro pcs for their 40 dollar everything plan. but didnt because i was unsure. I did change settings in qpst to match the settings of metro pcs phone settings/data settings and when i changed my mind i tried to flash it back to virgin mobile i messed up a lil and had to do the ##786#, menu, reset thing, to get my virgin mobile original settings back, so now the phone is activated but data is messed up. it dosent load pages or work period. the 3g arrows flash every once in a while but then stop. and i am on meanrom v4.5. just flashed back from jellybean the liquidsmooth rom. i am not quite sure what the problem is but i think the data settings are incorrect. when i go into ##data# settings in data profile it shows ""[email protected] . it seems everything else is mostly correct as far as i know. so if anyone can help me at all with data settings or anything else i would be very appreciated.and yes i tried updating profile/prl stuff and nothing. but thank you for any help at all.
Do a google search for flashing phones to virgin mobile. Does not really matter what phone the flash instructions are for as long as it is an android phone. Then compare the settings to the ones you have on your phone and make any changes needed.
Oh and next time before you change anything with qpst make a backup. With qpst you can read all the info from your phone then back it up tk your pc. Then if you ever need to go back you just open the saved settings and flash them over.

Ya I did that and all of the posts I found have outdated information. I called virgin and they told me to wait 24 hours and the problem will be fixed and that my programming information was correct. I'm not sure if they were telling me the truth or not but I had this problem before and switching to profile 1 fixed everything. This time its not working because profile 0 and profile 1 are exactly the same. I don't know what to do at this point. I was hoping someone with an EVO 3d or EVO V 4g working on virgin mobile could connect to qpst and give me pictures of their exact settings minus their account information and esn/meid numbers whited out. Since VM won't help me the only thing I can do now is ask for help from someone else.
seems like my 3g is working now. i flashed back to liquid smooth kit kat. wierd because i have used meanrom before on my account. so i guess it was meanrom messing things up. thanks tho.

WIFI Calling

So I did a restore using the LG tool and I am missing the wifi calling app. I can't seem to get it at all from any source, I've read some discussions about it but haven't gotten anywhere with it.
Anyone have some advice ? Ive tried all the ## diag numbers and all of that to try to get the sprint software to load but it doesn't load the WIFI calling app or any other sprint apps.
Can someone maybe provide me with the APK ?
Hopefully this helps!

I am not sure how to make this stuff active..I've tried every procedure possible on this to get it enabled. ##RTN# and nothing no Sprint boot or shutdown or Sprint apps including the wifi calling.
I'm not sure if it's a blessing or now I can't use any of those features anymore.

I've used the tool 5 times to get back to stock (things I've tried that don't work, never with the build prop except the multi window) and not once has all the apps installed. I.e. wifi calling. You must know your msl. Once you know that you're golden. Restore back to stock. Don't bother with downloading or really setting up anything. Go to phone, dial ##rtn#. Option 2 i believe, put in your msl and bingo. It will restart have you sign in again and all that jazz and whalla. Wifi calling and all the other Sprint bs is back. Have any questions please ask.
