Notifications through speaker when headphones/BT connected - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone else have this problem? For example, while driving and connected to my A2DP headunit, if I get a message from WhatsApp, it'll play through the speaker on the phone and my car speakers. Or if my headphones are connected, the refresh noises from Twitter/Pulse news will also play through the speaker.

Can someone just check if this happens?

Not getting u properly

Well if you have your headphones connected, will some sounds on the phone still play though your speaker?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium

This is a REALLY simple test. Someone please, for the love of god, plug in your headphones and try to update Twitter or something. See if the noise plays through the speaker.

Wow, I'm amazed at how unhelpful some people can be.

After your last comment im pretty sure that less people will want to help. And its normal when you have something external hooked up wheteher bt or 3.5mm jack to external speakers for sound to play externally.
I voided my warranty and your mum.

I have the same issue. While I'm listening to songs, if I get a notification, or even if I take a picture on the stock camera, the shutter sound goes through the speakers. It's pretty annoying if you're listening to something loudly on a public place. Anybody know how to fix?

Hello Forum,
just get this thread back, because i need that feature
Lemme explain:
My Galaxy S2(XXLSJ leaked), is connected into JVC bluetooth car Audio device, which supports incoming notifications from phone.
In the past, with my old Nokia 5800 C6 ported, when i get a SMS, on the dual din screen of my JVC appears a message about new SMS received, and remais there until i read on the phone or touch on it into display.......
Is this feature be possible with a mod on a leaked XXLSJ Rom?
Thanks for helping and answering you Masters

Car Dock Question

When answering the phone while in the car dock the audio is routed to the internal speaker rather than through the audio output to the stereo. Anyone know how to fix this?

When you're on a call uncheck "speaker" and it should go thru the car speakers.
It does. But then the mic is muted so no one can hear you

I have 2 dumb questions as I spent the better part of the day yesterday looking. 1. Does it charge the photon when It's in car dock?
2. You mean I can play the music thru the speakers? How? it dock wired to stero?
Yes and yes. It charges while in the dock and the dock has a 3.5mm output cable.
See here.
Or if you have a bluetooth capable radio it will stream thru THAT>>>>

Well Bluetooth works while in the car dock but if you want to hear your music through the car speakers you have to turn Bluetooth off. Then when you get a call, you can't answer it without taking the phone out of the cradle because by the time you turn the Bluetooth back on and wait for it to connect, you've lost the call. Either I'm stupid and missing something or this is a really dumb design.

Exactly, I was almost better off using my old 3.5 to RF adapter because at least then I could answer the phone without having to pull it all apart.
Depends on the car stereo i guess.
I have my phone connected using the 3.5mm cable to my stereo and bluetooth is always connected. when i get a call (no matter what audio source i'm using ) the bluetooth with take over and let me answer through my stereo.
I have a Kenwood Exelon KDC-X995

go to your blue tooth settings and select your car head unit there you can edit how the phone acts when its connected then go to your incall settings and adjust those according to how you want it to work,,, I play music thru the bluetooth and it stops playing when a call comes thru the call is routed to the speakers in the car via bluetooth and I use the mic on the phone to talk,, after the call is ended it returns to playing music like normal,, if you have any further problems pm me!

my bluetooth and car dock work flawlessly together. i didn't even have to change settings. the stereo i installed does have a mic so that may be different than what some people are experiencing. it actually syncs my phonebook and tells me who is calling while stopping my music and playing a nice little ringtone through my speakers. highly suggest to anyone who is on the road alot and prefers not getting a ticket.
it's a SONY MEX-BT2900.
car dock + bluetooth streaming music = no wires, no hassles.
I have a Pioneer AVH-P5200BT DVD Player. Best Buy is installing it at 10:00AM tomorrow. I will let you know how it works at 11:00AM!
Sometimes my wife's stereo will not pick up BT calls (calls go to the phone, just no audio). And sometimes we realize the car is on (being warmed up or whatever) and get a call, but no audio since its being directed though the car stereo. If this sounds like what you are experiencing all you have to do is hit the bluetooth button from the incall screen. This will route it back to the phone.
There should be no reason to turn on and off BT.
OK Boys and Girls. My Pioneer AVH-P5200BT DVD Player is killing me. (This is a LONG learning process................) TeleNav for Navagation works perfect. I can play music from my playlist and still get directions. Phone works perfect and I have not gotten any complaints. Dialing the phone is easy.
I only have 2 complaints. One (and this is minor) I cannot watch or play DVD unless parking brake light is on. (I dont watch movies anyway) I cannot watch Movies on Photon if it's in the dock. (again, dont want to watch anyway. I was just playing)
Second, I cannot get my music to play thru Bluetooth no matter how hard I try. I turn it off/on, I pair it again and again. Funny thing though. I have BT Headphones, When I pair or look at them, I see Headphones. When I look at my stereo, (or my ear piece), I see a ear piece?
I really, really, really love the setup though. Everything is within easy reach and the way it tilts to me is entertainment delight! (I will take picture later!)
David
OK all, Pictures of my DVD Player Open and Closed with Car Dock below. You don't see my Photon for obvious reasons (I needed it to take the picture) but you get the idea. Also, If you notice its slanted to the left. That is for my easy use, but I can slant it the other way if passenger wants to change playlist and/or navigate directions somewhere. David
EDIT: My pictures failed to attach? Hum........
I don't think that you all understand the original question. The problem is NOT with bluetooth. The problem is that the internal microphone is muted when you shut off the speakerphone function. Therefore when the audio is routed through the aux jack while in a call people can't hear you
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
OK, It worked (I guess firewall at work blocked me?) Anyway, per the last member to post, I do not have that issue. System works as designed. David
Well, they apparently fixed this issue with the last update. So, it now works as it should.

Is it possible to disable auto mute?

My wife just picked up a new Galaxy Note on AT&T. We quickly discovered that when something is plugged into the headphone jack the phone mic is automatically muted. After discussing with Samsung regarding this they in fact have confirmed that because the device comes with headphones that have an inline mic the phone auto mutes when something is in the headphone jack.
So unlike our iPhone 4s when we are plugged into her cars AUX input for the purposes of listening to music we have to UNPLUG in order to take a call. Not mention if we have headphones in that don't have an inline mic we have to unplug the headphones to talk.
This seems EXTREMELY stupid to me. Is it at all possible to disable the auto mute. Samsung says no. I was told this is the place to go for a definitive answer.
its not being muted... its just in headphone mode thats the issue and idk why samsung does this its stupid. htc's handsets dont do this ither
Is there a way to make it NOT do that???
I know exactly the feature you are referring to. You might look for an app in the market, I don't know but I think the short answer is it needs to be built into the kernel. This probably won't happen until source for ICS is released and then a dev will include it in a build. Search the market for an app and tell us if you find something.

i dont think its a software issue i think its how it is actually wired inside the device. this also happened on the nexus s but not the first nexus by htc
That's weird, I was having Bluetooth connection problems and was using my aux port to stream Pandora and my phone range and I took the call and had it still hooked to my aux port and they could here me fine.
My Bluetooth was off this last time but I have done it a.couple times that I remember.
I'll try tomorrow again

AT&T Model = has EARPHONES with in-line pic ????
I got mine 3 weeks ago - new one , and the BOX was opened in frount of me @ ATT STORE ............... didnt have ANY EARPHONE!!!
So when I called the 800 Number > got told the same thing ( as whats on Website) .......... NO EARPHONE !!!
So I am using the earphone from my older INFUSE < works fine with inlinemic and NOPE dont get mute thingie) I have also tested with ZAGG BUDS; DR ONES - msot expensive ones - NONE OF THEM DO that 'mute' thingie - atlreast not on my NOTE (( rooted , unlocked and back to stock att though at the moment - ready for trade to s3))
So I suspect that the Earpiece here is not the correct one for phone
Mine came with beats earphones

Mine doesn't mute the mic when headphones or my car's aux cable is plugged in either. And headphones were removed from the AT&T release.
I talk on my phone in my car while aux cable plugged in all the time. I don't have mute problem at all. Not only aux cable but I use my Bose headphones without inline Mic and they work fine too.

Can't take calls on wired headphones?

Hello all,
I have the following issue on a GT-I9300, stock rom, not rooted on Orange Romania carrier:
listening to music on wired headphones Sennheiser ie8i, everything is ok, then when receiving a call I hear the caller for one second then the headphone icon disappears and the conversation is switched to phone and all I can do is to get the headphones out and put them back to have the conversation in my heaphones & headphones microphone.
Should I mention this heaphones have the standard iphone remote on wire and work flawlessly on my other phone (HTC One X).
I've tried to search the forum but didn't found anything similar, so bear with me please. Thank you!
Did you make sure the headphone is fully inserted into the headphone jack? Mine works perfectly after I pushrd it still the way in
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Yep, pushed all the way it goes... Needless to say that music I listen to its clean and powerful stereo. When call starts, I hear a second of the conversation, then headphone icon disappears form status bar and conversation is switched to phone. Even after that, if I push play again, the music starts in the phone speakers. I have to pull the headphones and insert again in order to work.
Its kind of disappointing, because I am more like a HTC guy and switched to S3 for the very reason of superior audio quality.

Hello,
I have the same problem (not evern hear the caller for sec) with my Sennheiser mm30i and Klipsch s4i, which both work fine on HTC desire and S2.
Kind regards,
Ron
it seems that for what it worth HTC android phones are more compatible with iphone type headphones than Samsung. I still hope that this is merely a software problem and some developer will look into it. I use now latest Omega (34).

Calls going through auxiliary rather than Blue tooth

is there anyway for me to answer calls on the gs3 via blue tooth while listening to music through auxiliary without it playing from my radio? I have the phone playing through my auxiliary while I drive and am also connected fr Blue tooth but when I answer my calls by tapping talk on bkueooth it plays through auxiliary and its a pain driving and unplugging my phone
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Nope. There are other threads about this. I wrote to Samsung on FB and my impression was that if enough people complain about it, they might fix it. Really dangerous in the car, as you have to unplug your cable to take a call on bluetooth.
I almost took my phone back because of this. The current work around is to use the Infuse 4G dock, which uses the USB port because the line out from that apparently plays nicely with Bluetooth. Or use a newer Bluetooth module that supports media streaming....

This is a ****ty decision on Samsung's part, major flaw in the design of the phone. The E4GT was the same way.
You MUST use a car mount, or bluetooth audio. I wonder if you can use an app to trick car mode, that may fix it.
I do that with the app Car Mode (though I just noticed that hd widgets allows you to make a car home widget short cut). It doesn't change anything. You can't just use speaker phone either. We've discovered the echo cancellation doesn't work because you have the headphone jack in use so it assumes you don't need echo cancellation. This would be funny if it wasn't so awful.

Yeah this is pretty lame, but afaik any aosp rom should fix this. I'm still waiting for cm9/10 to get a little more stable before I flash, but these should work properly.

[Q] During video chats, sound keeps going to ear speakers

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had this problem. While video chatting on the new hangout or skype, the sound keeps jumping from the phone speakers to the ear speakers. Needless to say this is a huge hassle as you keep the phone away from your ears when you're video chatting. The front ear speakers are significantly weaker than the back speakers and this makes it very difficult to hear.
Since this happens in 2 different apps, I'm thinking it's an s3 issue and not an app issue. For Google hangouts, you can choose to use back or front speakers. Reselecting the back speakers is a temporary fix. But then it will automatically jump back again... Very annoying since skype doesn't have a temporary fix like that.
Anyone else have this problem or a fix? Thanks in advanced!!
