[Q] Help!!! - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had Trigger 3.1 ono my phone and wanted to go with nero 3 beta. When I installed Nero 3 beta my phone froze and was stuck on the logo nonstop. I used odin and reloaded the stock vibrant T959 software. My question is can I install a rom on the phone after using odin and fixing it, or do I have to root it and so on.
I bought the phone rooted so I don't quiet know how it was done and what was done to it.
Thanks in advance.

No you don't have to root it if you can keep a copy of cwr on your sd card and move it back into your phone storage when you lose it. People who flash roms usually only root their phone when they need to redownload cwr through the root required app.

So all I have to do is get into the recovery mode and choose to install from SD card and load for example bionix v. 1.3.1? By the way is Bionix v 1.3.1 a good rom? I'm looking for something that will be the most stable and won't drop calls or have problems with searching for signal.
Thanks!

[Q] Lookin' for some advice...my Vibrant is well...brickish

Hey everyone-
I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but if it has go ahead and send me a link to the proper page (I have searched myself). Now that's out of the way, here's my problem...After having bionix 1.6 installed on my vibrant, I decided that I would flash back to stock via odin and then flash eugene's vibrant_r3 rom. I forgot to disable voodoo before using odin, and I got an error reading (unable to clear data) after trying to flash the stock rom on my vibrant. So fast-forward a bit...I know have a phone that won't seem to flash successfully through odin, and the best I've been able to do so far is reinstall clockwork on my vibrant and flash an old bionix 1.2 rom, which keeps freezing, forceclosing, and just generally bugging-out. So basically it seems like my vibrant is a mess of a bunch of different unsuccesful flashes and reflashes, so what I want is a surefire way to odin back to stock and wipe any and all data currently on my phone (excluding my sim contacts of course)?

[Q] Flash Stock using Odin, phone boots fine, but stuck on black screen lights

Hello,
I tried to recovery my phone by using Odin3 to install the stock 2.1 vibrant rom. I am using the rom from the official sticky about fixing a bricked phone.
Odin3 1.0 did not work and it would always freeze on a process even after trying it over and over again at least 5 times. So, I changed to use Odin3 1.7 which I found a link to on xda. This one installed successfully and went through the whole process and my phone rebooted. When it rebooted I saw the Samsung Vibrant Screen, then the T-Mobile screen then the Galaxy S screen fine like normal. But once it got passed the S screen a black screen would come up and all the button lights stay lit up and nothing happens for hours. I tried installing the rom several times, tried different links to the offical JFD stock rom, but everytime I try to install the same thing would happen. What do you recommend I should do to fix this problem?
wipe cache partitin , factory reset in rrecovery ?
Yes, I did. I wiped cache and data, but it still is is still stuck at the black screen.
Your using the JFD.tar in PDA and 512.pit in PIT and Repartition is NOT checked?
Yes, I made sure it was not checked and It was checked automatically the first time and I didn't realize that odin checks that automatically, so I unchecked it and did it a second time. The phone still gets stuck at the black screen with light up buttons.
I am trying the Eugene's Unofficial Froyo rom right now because what initially bricked my phone was installing 2.2 from Kies and that failing. When that failed I unplugged the phone and got the computer to phone icon screen and could no longer boot, so I went to install the stock rom.
The problem I am having with Eugene's Unofficial Froyo rom I am having now is that I have 0 space for applications and cannot install applicants even after doing a wipe and factory reset. Does this have to do with accidently setting it to re-partition and if so, how can I fix the no application storage issue so that I can install applications?
Thanks
I was thinking he designed this ROM just specifically to help bricked vibrants...I think you just use it as a means to reflash another ROM or back to stock or whatever.
I did what you had phone ! PC.. last night to my wife's phone....left it on that screen and plugged into pc with ODIN open..it showed a COM port so I flashed it like that and it boots right up.
I wonder if it has anything to do with Voodoo? I had a Voodoo Lagfix installed prior to doing the upgrade to Froyo 2.2 using the official method. May be why it failed. so I decided to flash back to stock. When I flashed stock 2.1 the phone would boot up then show the Vibrant Screen then the T-Mobile intro then the Galaxy S intro but once it got passed that the screen would go black and the buttons would stay lit up. I flashed Eugene's unofficial 2.2 ROM (no longer posted on xda, but it is on his website). That booted up perfectly, but the problem was that I now had 0 application storages and apps could not be installed on internal memory (could still install apps on SD card, I used this to install Rom Manager to the SD Card to flash Clockwork Recovery just in case)
Today, I tried flashing the Stock 2.1 rom back onto it (Phone was currently running Eugene's rom), but I have the same result with the black screen and lit buttons.
I looked at the FAQ for removing Voodoo and added a folder named "disable lagfix" in the Voodoo folder on the internal SD card. I ran this, but the problem still persisted, so I decided to flash again to see if it would be fixed. Still the same thing occured.
If this is a Voodoo problem, is there another method for removing Voodoo that I could try? I need to make sure that it is restored to the default RFS file structure that came with the phone and flash stock 2.1
Hmmm...odin back to eugenes froyo & unmount ur internal sd & format...go ahead and remove ur microsd & sim also...& then try to odin just the. Tar for jfd no pit ...no repartition..try to use ka6 instead of a 2.1..

When you do the disable lagfix are you rebooting and letting it convert the filesystem back to rfs or are you just powering down and going to d/l mode and trying to ODIN? You need to reboot the phone and let Linda do her thing and power up, then power down etc etc..

Yes, I rebooted after applying the disable lagfix, but it booted normally and didn't seem like it was doing the Linda thing....I wasn't sure if it worked or not. How would I know if it is back to using the RFS system?
I tried different roms and I had no luck. The KA6 Rom that flashes via odin installs fine, but it goes to the Recovery Screen the E3 one I think, and when it tries to mount DATA and other partitions it fails to do so, and somethings fail to be wiped. It doesn't boot.
When I run the JFD odin, when it goes to recovery for the first time it has one error where it fails to wipe DATA. Not sure if these are the reasons why I am having problems though.
I formated all partitions including the internal sdcard. Still no luck.
So far the only ROM that I got working is Eugene's 2.2..but I can't install applications with that one.
I tried installing the Bionix V Rom via ClockWork Recovery, but once it begins to Copy Files it errors out with an Error on line 13 and copy's out an error log. I posted a response to the thread about this ROM. I redownloaded to ensure it wasn't corrupted.
*****If you need more information on the EXACT Rom I installed prior to the brick here is the thread to the rom I installed. Maybe that will help you help me more ******
This is the rom I had before attempting to upgrade to Froyo:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=791478
I installed the Stock Recovery version.
Edit: I know this rom above is a kernal mod. I did flash the stock Vibrant kernel prior to installing the JFD ROM from this link: http://www.justanotherdev.slackdev.com/kernel-vibrant-stock.tar.md5.tar
crap dude do yo uhit repartition when u flash ka6 ? if so dont do so if its only update , dont check partiton if you flash just an update , hit partitoon if u flash offical release .

When I install the JFD with or without repartition I get passed all the boot screens, but it screen goes black and buttons light up..Sorry if I am being a noob and missing something obvious...but I followed those instructions, and I did it multiple times as well.
FIXED!!!
I fixed it wohooo!!!! I flashed Eugene's Froyo that doesn't brick version then flash back to stock JFD and its working perfectly! Thanks XDA! Found out that a lot of people with this issue after having Voodoo installed and installing a different rom, and that this rom was made to fix the Voodoo brick. Funny thing is the Eugene's rom fails on recovery with errors in this case, but it still unbricks the phone lol
Ahhh see lagfix didnt disable..glad you got it working..
Thanks for your help. I now am using the Bionix-V Rom with the Dragon-Kernel Voodoo and let me tell you I love this phone even more now with this Rom. Loving the Gingerbread theme and it runs super fast. Stock is too slow for me lol Anyway, this is resolved no more offtopic posts lol...

prepping for custom roms

hi,
im trying to flash a custom rom onto my vibrant.
but i've got a question regarding the phone starting stage.
i got the phone from craigslist and it seems the phone is slightly modded:
-it's got a "overstock" logo when you first start up the phone.
-when i boot the phone using the pressing of two volume keys and power button, i get "clockworkmod recovery v2.5.1.3- voodoo lagfix" in red color.
What i want to ask is do I have to get rid of these mods first before i flash custom roms to prevent future problems? If so, how do i get rid of these mods?
if i dont have to get rid of these mods first, do i just follow this guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028
also, i can flash custom roms without rooting right?
thanks
the phone is already rooted for you, to verify you should see the superuser app in your app drawer. Its a skulled android head. You can install any custom rom that already had voodoo enabled without disabling it. If you like you can disable it by going to the voodoo option and disabling it on the next boot. I wouldn't worry about it because most of these current roms have voodoo. What rom were you planning to flash?
hi thanks for the reply.
but i don't think my phone was rooted cuz there was no superuser logo.
so i did root it using the superoneclick method.
however, im in trouble now cause i accidentally formatted the internal sd thinking that'd disable the voodoo lagfix. (the guy i bought it from said he applied the lag fix- i wanted to disable it cause i'm trying to flash the team whiskey 1.3.1 and the site guideline said it'd brick my phone unelss i disable the lagfix- stupid i know)
But i did the phone backup using the rom manager and i restored, but my pics are still not there?
am i screwed here or can i recover somehow the pics from my phone using the backup file?
thanks!

[Q] Need help getting a custom ROM, cant get passed E3 to use clockwork

Hi, Ok, so I am new at this and I have a samsung galaxy vibrant on tmobile...i got it and it was running eclair 2.1, I figured out how to root it and then upgraded to froyo 2.2. Now I am wanting to get either Bionix ROM or Nero V3. I have followed all the steps, got rommanager, did the flash clockworkmod recovery, dowloaded the zip file and put it in the root of my sd, but when i go to reboot, it wont run as clockwork, no matter how many times i try!
I read that it is because 2.2 has recovery e3 and i need e2...so it says t download a kernal that contains clockwork recovery but the problem is i cannot find one. I can find stuff all day long about the galaxy I9000 but nothing on the vibrant!
I have Odin and was wondering can I flash the rom straight to the phone?
My model number is SGH-T959, Kernel is 2.6.32.9, and build is FROYO.UVKB5.
Please help me, I really have no clue what I am doing, I just want my phone to run fast, get a nice looking theme for it, and not have to worry about it messing up and from what i have read the only way to that is to get a custom ROM and the only way to get themes is thru a custom ROM....
So if anyone can tell me how to go about getting my phone to recover using clockwork and any links i need to download the stuff I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!!!
Just bricked my phone i think!!!
Ok so i just followed all of the directions on this sight on how to do it, i backed up my apps with titanium then put my phone in download mode with odin and tried to flash the kernal for my phone to upgrade it and on odin it just said on the screen part, modem, it was green and nothing else happened so i unplugged it because it wouldnt reboot even after waiting a while (10min) and then the screen just showed a broken link between phone and comp and wouldnt change, so i looked at how to restore it with odin and did that and now it will go to the download screen again but nothing else! PLEASE HELP!!!!
follow this guide it will solve all your problems press the thanks button

[Q] Captivate to Fascinate. What do I need to know?

Ok guys, I have a captivate and I am super familiar with rooting/flashing/kernels/modems, etc... I just got my wife a fascinate and I was wondering if I could use the same method to flash ROM's as I do on the captivate. I already noticed that my jig also works for the fascinate. Here is my method...
1. Put desired ROM on SD card
2. Get into DL mode (Jig)
2. Flash a CWM compatible kernel with odin
3. Boot directly into recovery (wipe date/cache)
4. Install ROM
I hunted for some good videos but it seems the fascinate gets no love on youtube unlike the cappy.
Also I was wondering if someone could recommend a good stable froyo ROM for my wife's phone. She doesn't care about GB or anything like that, just want stability and to be snappy. From a fellow galaxy lover, Thanks in advance.
Actually there is a video on how to root the fascinate on youtube. Thats how I first learned. For froyo rom's I would look into geewiz or powerwashed ed05 1.2, you can flash the no kernal version then flash the stock ed05 kernal if you dont want voodoo. Both very stable daily driver roms per say. Although I am really starting to like this powerwashed eh09 rom by ccompos aswell. The tks kernal really woke the rom up. Only issue I have found is the flashlight app don't work and I thought data was crappy but today its been very good.

You've got it for the most part, you have to Odin cwr, and immediately boot into recovery by holding up, down, power
until you see the 2nd Samsung screen then release the power but continue to hole both volume buttons until you get into recovery, you have to flash a non stock kernel the first time or the factory kernel will over write recovery and you'll have to start over, but most roms lately will contain a kernel so no needed to install the kernel first...unless the OP specifies that it doesn't contain one
You can enter download mode by connecting the USB cable to PC, or wall charger and removing the battery and holding the volume down button until you see the DL screen...the jig for the fascinate is normally for worse case scenarios...so keep it around but hopefully you'll never use it for the fassy!
As long as you follow the directions from the OP for what ROM you decide to run ie: some roms may require a specific recovery to flash properly, or Odin flashing to revert back, or other instructions specific for that ROM...that said I haven't been on a tw based ROM in a while so I don't have a suggestion other than experimentation and reading through posts of a potential ROM choice.
Whichever you run i'm sure your wife will love it, and if not, there are plenty of choices.

Everything went good, but when I go to choose SD from zip it says "can't mount SD card" I cant seem to mount the internal SD either. Does it matter where exactly you put the ROM?
Yes ROM should go on the root of your sd not in a folder But that is mainly for easy finding... Which sd card are you using...capacity/brand?...which ROM are you going to? and which recovery are you using and how did you install recovery

I ended up flashing geewiz because you could fully flash it with odin. Maybe its because my phone isn't activated yet but I'm having some difficulty mounting the phones internal memory. I cant get past the screen where you first program the phone. I have a kingston 4gb card. I tried powerwashed and followed his instructions perfectly but I think I need to get the phone activated so I can actually tinker with the OS.
