Okay, I just got the Evo 3D and I'm toying around with it. I like the phone and the fact that it does 3D pretty well... unfortunately 3D at full 5MP would be nice as well as a 3D perspective home screen. Is there a hack available for Full Resolution 3D pics? Is there a hack for a true 3D perspective home screen?
Not yet. It's been discussed, but for now it's on the maybe list.

Camera wise yeah, but for the 3D perspective home screen, someone made a hack for that on androidcentral's forum. I clicked the link but it didn't work. It was in the the Freevo ROME thread of the Evo 3D sub-forum.

Oh my bad, I misunderstood. I thought you meant real 3d, like parallax barrier activated. It's in a bunch of ROMs, but I wouldn't have the faintest clue on if it could just be installed. I find it annoying though.
The ROM I'm using, XRON, has it. It's a good ROM if you wanna flash it.

In most ROMs it is the "display" section of the settings on your phone. If you check a bunch of threads, there might be a seperate mod for that.

Anyone know why HTC changed their minds from the "industry standard" JPS (JPEG Stereo, as the optimus 3D uses) to MPO?
I know the LG phone supports both formats for viewing, but HTC are not responding to my questions these days about the Evo 3D so I don't know if it supports both formats or just the more limited mpo

They told me the camera will shoot in JPS format, then when phones start appearing it uses MPO, I was wondering why the move away from the industry standard so close to launch.
I also never said it didn't support JPS, I was saying I've asked them if it does but have not had a response.

The AOSP ROMs are notoriously bad about getting 'special' features like camera and GPS working like stock. I'm not sure why there is so much faith in devs doing impossible stuff with the hardware.

Why not I've seen devs do amazing work that completely alters the phone in ways you wouldn't imagine would have been possible.

Untrue. People who just produce ROMs based off of Shipped HTC ROMs won't be adding any functionality in at all. Sorry to break it to you. Actual modders may infact tackle adding functionality into the phone which ROM chefs will undoubtedly put in their own ROMs.

I'm sorry i should have worded it different. I know we got people working on the 3d. It's a beast I love it. But having a 2nd 3d device out by HTC should broaden the apps released in the market and even apps by HTC. More movies, maybe even netflix support, maybe official 3d HTC widgets, Games?(gameloft has a few,and then......). If that article is correct it would be 7 inch 3d monster

Don't be sorry...the problem is that 3d is a new technology on the phone...how many apps can you develop for it for 3d only? The flyer is no different...if you strip out the 3d....the 3vo is still a formidable phone. The main developers I see will be on roms...kernels and system apps..modders will do the themes and landscape of design...there is a huge potential for this phone...the flyer...I think it is cool and nice...but until 3d becomes mainstream....most of the development will be done on the rest of the areas..be it phone or tablet...

LOL....she dev'ed for the OG EVO.....she. made up some sweet themes for the kingdom port.....she's also made a few skins for us here.....she's learnng as she goes....I think she's gonna be a good asset to us here.....prettty stoked about it all!!

I haven't had the opportunity to tinker with it yet, but can't Netflix be ran on pretty much any android device if you change the build.prop info to show the device as a samsung... Or even a HTC Evo 4G? Again, I don't have it in hand, but I would imagine that would work through ES file with temp root...?

The same 4G's netflix apk has been working on the 3vo since day 1. Now the market version offically supports the evo 3d.
It doesnt matter but.. you cant change the build prop file without perm root because you have to reboot the phone for it to take effect.

I can't agree with you more. Never been on such a quiet section before. It is so dead. I feel that it won't get much better as the phone seems to be just a little outdated already. Luckily the stock Rom is good enough for my personal usage. I still love this phone though. Just the features and the way it feels/built is simply awesome.

This phone is quite unknown (sadly)...there is little to no advertising for it. Everyone who saw my evo 3d said "wow, your phone is awesome! Which one is it? I've never seen it before!" If more people knew about it's existance, we would probably have more devs..
The bright side: because of it being unknown, It's a special device. Unlike the iPhone... Everybody knows and a lot of people have the iPhone. I like people asking me to see my phone, hold my phone, make pics with my phone, play a 3D game with it, and so on ;p.

True, that is good. However I still rather have more development, like cyanogenmod which is there for cmda now but not for gsm
As much as I love sense, I just like a standard AOSP look. Wanting to root it once those custom kernels come out and install another Rom. Want to block all those unnecessary ads with a custom host file as well. Removal of some bloatware would be a plus. I'm in no rush though as long as it comes. With our specs, the phone can last us another year

I don't mind too much. I'd rather wait until everything is more stable anyway. Perhaps I'm spoiled coming off a Captivate, but with that phone, if I screwed up, it was super easy to go back to stock, not to mention the thing practically rooted and unlocked itself. Ton of ROMs, Kernels, Radios, etc.
Since I'm not especially knowledgable about flashing, customer kernels, etc. I'd rather wait a while anyway until there's a lot of solid documentation. It's getting there, but I'd imagine once the custom Kernels come out is when the real fun begins.

My cousin has it and honestly our dev section is way way better. Right now I'm using kushdeck's rom as a daily... they have a wip with no downloadable. I don't even know what works. Or how far they are...
This is the same as the skyrocket dev section.. but here its worse.
They are mostly stock with some themes... and the themes are just color changes...

Yeah I agree. I use both the evo 3d and ep4g. I like the evo 3d dev section so much stuff to choose from. Every week I use a different rom changing themes throughout the week. My friends think my phone is the coolest compared to their iphones

Here's another problem. Complaints about Sense. If someone doesn't like Sense, why buy a phone that has it out of the box, and can't be removed without waiting for a developer to do it for you?
I'm a huge fan of Sense, and I look forward to getting 3.5, or 4.0, depending on what HTC brings to the table with the release of ICS.

I agree. If it was as easy to port Sense to a phone without it, then it is to get rid of it from a phone that already has it, there would be a lot of people using Sense on phones like the Galaxy series. It's amusing, really.

had a sgs2 for about 2 weeks... hated it. and from that experience i have decided i will never buy another samsung product again.
they will have an official ICS release from sammy in about 13 months. because that's how long it takes samsung to get off their ass with any kind of support. look at the epic and the gingerbread update. 6 months behind the evo 4G

I wouldn't mind a galaxy nexus. But I know I would get tired over it.. after a while. Then what will I flash? A gb colored ics?
With the evo 3d I can put sense on for a while..... but I'm keeping pics for a long time... live it
The sgs2s aren't bad but I hate that they made them 4.3 and kept the same resolution and aspect ratio... I hate how pixelated and how wide it looks. Do like the samoled especially the blacks. But its a hate love relationship because colors look good but they aren't correct. Compare the gray or stainless steel color the speed test app has on an sgs2 and the evo 3d... you'll see the colors, sharpness and aspect ratio..

The smoothness of everything, the look that's different from android and customizable, and I love the launcher. I hate when things are ordered alphabetically, things get moved around each time you install an app. With miui everything stays in place, and it's easier for me to get to an app since I usually remember the location of said app. Plus apps that I install and forget about later are easier for me to notice on miui as opposed to other roms.
I just started running this rom. I like it, im using dark ice them tho, and as long as i can find away to get sprint voice mail app to work i think i will use this rom for a while.

I most like the smoothness, nothing else compares. 2nd favorite is battery life. And 3rd part favorite would be the customization.

I have never gotten a headache from 3d on my phone or tv. I love it.
me either but i don't really care for the 3d that much at all it was cool for like the first 2 months then haven't really used it much since
The 3d is pointless on these phones. I stopped using it cus the cam would crash and 4G was never going to happen. It's an awesome ROM though. I just used launcherpro over it and got amazing benchmarks with it. My favorite thing is that its very functional. Seems like the UI always surprised me when i would find something is right where i want it to be in logical places.
