[Q] Struggling with Root and Rom Procedures - Motorola Droid X2

I have had the X2 for roughly 3 months and am now at the point of wanting more from the phone. I have been attempting to root using gingerbreak, enabled debugging and have attempted root 3 times giving 15 minutes for the program to complete root each time. After each time would fail I would reboot the phone to give a fresh start and verify that I do not have superuser. Each time I am left with Gingerbreak continually stating that it is rooting and running exploit yet it never moves forward.. no reboot.
Ideas?
Second question: Can someone please lay out a clear path to applying a new rom on this phone. I previously used the Eris which while it was a pile it would root and rom in 5 steps all of which were clearly outlined in one Thread. Is there a thread like this that I am just not finding? It as I read through the forum it seems like this has gone rom a 5 step process to a 50 step process involving a home computer and 7 different programs.
Can someone clear this up for me?

If u are on android 2.3.3 u can't use gingerbreak. Gingerbreak only works for x2 on froyo(2.2.2)
U need to use petes one click method for rooting Motorola devices running gingerbread .

I am indeed on 2.3.3 I will give that a shot.
Any idea on the second question?

U will need the system recovery apk that was ported from the ATRIX for now to flash roms. Pretty much just download the zip for rom. Place zip on external sd card.
boot into bootstrap recovery((we have a REAL one on the way from koush but for now the ported world just fine u just NEED to be PLUGGED INTO THE WALL as if u r charging for recovery to come up)
Then go to install zip from sdcard. CHOOSE zip from sdcard. Press yes to install. BE VERY PATIENT. DO NOT UNPLUG PHONE UNTIL ALL DONE AND U CHOOSE REBOOT SYSTEM.
then again be very patient as it will take a while to load the new system while booting. I can sit at the bootanimation for a long time. DO NOT PULL THE BATTERY unless u wanna screw it up.
But before installing any roms first make your nandroid by going to backup/restore ams choosing backup. I always put it on my external sd card. This way if u don't like the rom u can go back to where u were before by choosing restore instead of backup.
And it's usually a great idea to wipe data/cache from recovery before flashing also.
Hope this helps.
---------- Post added at 08:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:04 PM ----------
I would also recommend looking around the droidforums.net x2 section for some info on flashing. There are a lot of stickies there but I like this site better. More active over here usually.
I don't know what info is in the development forum here but it may be helpful if it has been updated. I never looked at it really. Good luck. Stay informed. Don't.do anything u aren't sure of unless u wanna learn how to sbf(which u should learn anyways just in case...its fairly simple)

Edit: ignore.

NEW mytouch slide root

hi... this post is for those who wants to root the mytouch quickly and easily without even using a computer. these directions will be step by step, because i know how frustrating it is when someone gives a broken step expecting you to fill in the blanks.
note
im not responsible for what happens to your phone. i am simply showing you hope when all else fails. now lets get started.
ALL CREDIT GOES TO CLOCKWORK FOR HIS UNBELIEVABLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE ANDROID COMMUNITY. THANK YOU
first things first, you need a mytouch slide, your phone charging, rom manager free from the android market, universal androot which i will post the link below, and finally a custom rom from xda developers. pick anyone you like preferably cyanogen mod.
step 1. take the custom rom you downloaded from either your pc or from your phone: pc-> if you downloaded it off your pc, then you need to connect your phone to your pc and put the custom rom file on the root of your sd. you dont have to rename it, just leave as is. phone-> if you downloaded it off your phone, then i hope you heard of astro file manager from the market?! you need that to explore your sd card from your phone and find the custom rom on your downloads folder, and edit, move, to the root of your sd card. then paste.
step 2. now you need to get the universal androot apk from the link below. once you download it, make sure you put it anywhere on your phones sd card. once it's there, use astro once more to find that apk on your sd card and install it by clicking on it.
step 3 now all you need is rom manager free from the android market. i hope that you know how to find and install it.
now that you are all situated, the real part begins, and i will also explain why we are doing it this way along the process okay.
step 4 open up the universal androot apk on your phone and it should look pretty simple. the only thing you do here is make sure that root temporary(unroot after reboot) is checked. then hit root . you should get a sucess and the superuser apk showing up in your app drawer. if yes then proceed to step 5.
step 5 now that you have temporary root, this will give you permission to use root apks until reboot. luckily i found out that rom manager has the ability to flash clockwork recovery while your phone is still on. well this is what your going to do. open up rom manager, and the very top option is "flash Clockwork Recovery" hit this and it should install it. after that click on "install rom from sd card." find your custom rom that you put on here from before, and click on it, then check both boxes: backup existing rom, and wipe data and cache, and hit ok. now hit ok to go into recovery. if you get a superuser request at this point then congratulations, its working. allow it , and proceed to step 6 .
step 6 now your phone is restarting and should back up the system and start installing the custom rom. if for some reason it doesnt install right there, and takes you to clockwork recovery(blue words), then go to step 7. if not then step 8
step 7 if you are in clockwork recovery and dont know what the heck youre at, well in short, your at a screen where your allowed to install any rom meant for the mytouch slide including the 2.2 froyo. yay! navigation is simple if you know how. volume buttons are for navigation up and down, and the camera button on the right bottom is for selecting, while the power button at the top of the phone is to go back one. got it ? all you want to do is intall your custom rom if you havent yet. you might first want to do the wipe data/ factory reset, to make sure everything goes smoothly on your new rom. after that go back to the screen with all the options, and go to install zip for sdcard. then it is important to choose zip from sdcard, as i have no idea what the apply sdcard:update.zip will do to your phone. after you click choose update, you should be in a familiar area: your sdcard. find your custom rom and install it. it will work if its a complete and compatible rom for your phone. once done hit reboot system now and presto step 8.
step 8 ur done lol. enjoy your new rom. misc. if you ever want to go back into clockwork recovery, then go into your normal recovery by power + volume down while your phone is turned off. then hit recovery option. youll notice that you are at the normal recovery. push power+volume up for new set of options. theres an option call apply zip update. click on the and boom, you should pop up in clockwork recovery.
universal androot since i am a new user, i cannot post links but here is an attachment, and if your not signed in then you will find the program by going to 4shared.com and searching for UniversalAndroot-1.6.2-beta.apk uploaded by chrisjcj27. thanks and good luck

Followed your steps completely. After i get root and flash CW Recovery, I go to install the custom rom and make a Nandroid backup.........it restarts phone and take me to the phone with a question mark (i think thats what it was) and then reboots normally into the stock rom. It says its failing to installl the update package which im assuming is CW Recovery.

try repeating the steps again. and make sure that everything goes right along the way. the slightest error will make this a no go.
ill go back and re check everything. this worked for me 3 times over. gimme a sec. ill make this work. sorry for the inconvenience oh by the way. can anyone confirm that they have tried this on a mytouch that hasnt recieved the new ota update. this is the only phone i have tested it on. im not sure if it has anything to do with it.
Tried it about 6 times now. Even downloaded terminal to ensure i have root before carrying on. Its not letting the update.zip that Rom Manager installs on the SD card run at all. Its saying its not signed and then it fails?
Androot is only able to give us a temporary root, therefore the bootloader is still locked and it will not allow us to actually get into CW at all. Correct?

Read through the working root method here.
This method was developed by ChiefzReloaded, a dev we all know and love. He knows his stuff.
The one posted in this thread seems easier, but simply will not work.

Installing Custom Rom... A noob

Dear all,
I recently bought an LGP500 and im lovin it..!!!! Came across this forum and found that there are heaps of developments thats taking place in this platform! Really wanna thank each and everyone for their time and effort in trying to improvise on the OS.
I came across [UNOFFICIAL][ROM][stable:6.5.5,testing:6.6] CyanogenMod 7.1-RC1 (Android 2.3.4) and i really want to install it (or in that case, and good GB OS) over my froyo. I have been through a lot of threads on flashing and rooting, but im still very unclear about the whole process. Im not a computer geek, and all these jargon kinda make me feel like a bozo .
As a last resort, im trying out this thread. Would really appreciate if someone could spare some time and provide a simple walkthrough from - (a) backing up the original OS, (b) on through flashing and rooting, (c) to installing this custom ROM and (d) finally restoring it if needed for warranty purposes. Im pretty sure there are a lot of people like me who has difficulty in understanding all these processes and missing out some great developments.
I hope everyone understands this and wont consider this as one of those spam/duplicate threads, where the same Qs are repeated again and again...!
Thanks a lot for any support
Yes, the same Q's are repeated yet again. But I'm in a good mood today and I'll try not to give you much flak for it.
1. Root your phone, use z4root if android v2.2, use gingerbreak (both are apps) if on v2.2.1/2.2.2.
2. Install a custom recovery, of two kinds: AmonRa or ClockworkMod. Search for these threads.
3. Boot into recovery mode for backing up your current rom and installing a new one.
I hope this is a good summary. Before asking any further questions, check out the FAQ link in my signature.
Also read some stickies to enhance your knowledge. The_error has made a very good introduction thread on technical stuff.
In android, for using custom roms, first thing is to root. Then one has to install a recovery. Then make a nandroid backup from recovery. Then wipe everything from recovery and then flash your desired rom.
I suggest you do this:
1. Instal z4root app from market and Root your phone via it.
2. Install rom manager from market.
3. Install clockwork mod recovery via it.
Now you can go to recovery via rom manager or swith off and press and hold for about 15-30 seconds home+volume down+ power button.
Once you are in recovery, you are free to fly.
so which will be the most stable rom (no over clocking) for smooth usage, simple ui, internet and good video playback support. I herd there is problem with some roms not being able to play divx files.
I say rjtchn`s cm7 has the best battery I've had
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
I can't find either z4root or Gingerbreak in the market. Searching XDA Developers I see several versions of z4root floating around, but since my Optimus V is 2.2.1, I gather I should be using Gingerbreak anyway? Pointers to the correct APK appreciated. Otherwise if I should be going the ADB route, pointers to a thread that has working drivers for the O V linked would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
OK, to answer my own Question, latest version (that I have tested works) of Gingerbreak is at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
Now to figure out which kernel or rom to go with...
--deleted--
hey i am a noob and can't understand what to do with those softwares which are mentioned above, is there any step by step guide from starting to end??
any help would be highly appreciable
ok..i am a noob too.. so what all guys are saying is that, let me simplify:
There are basically 3 steps,
first, install a "gingerbreak" app, which is a apk (u can copy it ur mem.card and using file manager (its default in your stock android), u can install it from ur android after copying
secondly, install ROM Manager Free from Market and Install ClockworkMod Recovery from that app(dont fret about technical names..just do it), its easy as click and download
thirdly, download the Custom ROM like Mik's CM7 6.5.6 or something that pleases you and copy the necessary files posted in the Custom ROM'S page, all will be zip files...and restart the phone , By pressing vol.up+home+power button..u Will get to a different screen(that is recovery) , and make a nandroid backup as everyone says(all options are seen in the recovery) ...then clear cache..clean anything and everything..then install zip file from sd card...choose the Custom ROM and Restart (and lastly , forgot to tell you ,navigate by presssing volume keys and menu key as ok button)
..ok...maybe its not simple as it looks,,once you try..it will be easy as taking candy from a baby, thanks to all the guides and developers and all the ppl that supports it.
There are further step by step tutorials , if u search for it.. i was confused as hell too.. dont worry, U Will get the hang of it Noobz

you should really follow the instructions on the rom of your choice, but ill just give you the general scope of things:
1. root phone using one of the methods found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901247
2. after rooting, flash custom recovery:
http://androidforums.com/getitnowmarketing/221388-custom-recovery-optimus-one-p500-thunderg.html
3. download rom of your choice from the link in #1 and move it to the root of your sdcard (which is directory /sdcard)
(3.5 you can use titanium backup to backup your apps. the sdcard should stay untouched while you flash your phone but im pretty sure that your internal memory will be erased. i didnt do this and i lost all of my apps so i dont really know where this step should go but i think it belongs here. there should be a folder on your phone with those backed up apps. move that folder to your computer. i didnt do this so im not sure if this is how it goes, sorry. btw this is optional.)
4. boot into recovery (with your phone off, hold home+vol down+power)
5. make a nandroid backup
6. wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cache, wipe cache (follow the instructions on the rom that you chose)
7. flash (your rom name).zip
8. reboot phone (might take a while, thats normal)
the following is if you backed up your apps earlier:
9. move the folder with your apps backed up back to your phone in the exact same directory it was
10. restore it with titanium backup
someone please confirm this.
thanx guys

I am using rom manager and i dont even get the option of backing up roms...nor the ability to turn off protection on packages ect..
i just tried deleting the install-recovery.sh (rather i renamed it, so i could get it back. And still no cwm after restart? Any other ideas? Did i do something wrong there?
ok...so nothing that you guys suggested works...I have no idea how to get CWM to work fully....now i am stuck with the lame motoblur...yay..
Are you guys 1000% sure you're rooted?
1000%, i have super user app, and i run titanium backup. Everything gets granted root just fine that ask for it.
---------- Post added at 12:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:36 AM ----------
strange thing happened. I deleted Rom Manager application. I redownloaded it. It already detected that i was on latest clockwork recovery 5.0.2.0, but i went ahead and flashed it anyways. I then restarted with volume down. I picked "Android Recovery" and it worked just fine. Booted right into cwm!!!! every subsequent time - it doesn't boot into CWM (it boots into what must be motorola's recovery menu).
Wow! That's so odd! I'm glad you found a way to work it at least once though, even if you have to reinstall Rom Manager every time to work it, hopefully this thread is still on page 1 when the experts wake up!
But that is going to suck if i have to reinstall it everytime to use it. i feel like if I can't get into from startup it would be too risky to put any rom on my phone. If i got into a boot loop or something, it seems like i would be so screwed.
After that file has been removed, reflash CWM and it should work. At least that's what got me going.
That did it. Delete the file then reflashed. Awesome. Thanks Guys!
I'm just a noob, mobileweasel helped the most (too bad i'm limited to 5 thanks a day, it's 1:18am here and i've used them up already )
I haven't even got the phone yet but i'm still trying to learn about it and hopefully, help others along the way too See you around!
Well guys the most i can say on this one is, I had somewhat the same problem my first time around. Except mine said, failed to boot 2 starting rsd mode.
the problem that i was having was that i hadn't unlocked my bootloader, which i found that if you want the most recent rom builds, you need to have an unlocked bootloader. there is a sticky for it in the android development section. still should be first thread. says Pudding.
take a look at that. as i thought i had everything ready to go when i got my atrix. i was wrong but a couple of the atrix guru's got me set straight and working with recovery and roms within ten minutes.
any questions, go ahead and PM me and i will give you what help i can. the atrix was the first device to elude me especially since now instead of tefnars recovery we actually have a full working cwm.

Installing Beastmod

Go easy on me guys I tried looking for the answers for the last 3-4 hours. ;/
I already rooted my phone using this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310115
and unlocked the bootloaded as well using the htcdev website.
And I would like to install beastmod. I went through the faq and the whole bit but still have questions and still a tad bit confused. I even went online to google and search the forum.
I know this is the official thread for beast mod
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313017?referrerid=922386
I have unlocked the boot loader, do I need to flash the kernel still? This is where I am confuse.
I read the
"FAQ for the HTC Amaze 4G. Read Frequently Asked Questions before you post a question!"
and
"HTC AMAZE ROM Bible - Everything you need to know"
I'm coming from a Blackberry which I used for almost 6 years.
I'm just kinda stumped right now as far as steps I need to take if any prior to installing Beastmod. I have never installed a rom before but I figure I ask the questions above before attempting anything.
Forgive me if i'm wrong everyone, but i think the Kernel is already cooked into the ROM. So no need for flashing a kernel after flashing the ROM.
I too am new to the HTC Amaze. I'm coming from a Samsung Galaxy S2 and was also running BeastMod v4.0. And God is this a pain in the butt to root. Last HTC phone i had was a HTC TouchPro. WinMo6 ftl
Really? What made you go to the Amaze? I came in T Mobile store thinking I was going to walk out with the S2 but after 3 days I ended up leaving with the Amaze, just seemed like a better phone.
Have you installed beastmod on your phone going?
Oh i still have my SGS2, just got really bored with it dev wise. Too many Roms with pretty much the same things. BeastMod was really the only ROM that stood out. Just got my Amaze last night, so i haven't even been able to try to root it yet. I've been reading alot of tutorials, and it sounds fairly easy....just alot of steps than what i'm used to. But so far, i'm really liking the Amaze over the SGS2. Sense and the camera are a WIN!
As far as I can tell from reading the official BeastMod first post you do need to flash the kernel.
That message below is right in the change log.
"**FULL WIPE REQUIRED FOR v2.2.0 and Kernel Flash**
YES!
You must flash the Kernal with Kernal Flasher
We do not have S-off... Security Off
So Kernals can not be buried in the rom they have to be seperate. We do not anticipate S-off any time soon. Since bootoader is unlocked we can use ADB to push the kernal. VIOLA! for us mere mortals the mighty DEV have created a tool that does it for us!
I just want to help. I find it hard to believe you did not see this in like every Xboarder ROM thread there is! Follow instructions on front page of the ROMs. They are explicit.
Feel free to PM if you have issues though. Amaze is my first Android phone and I cut my teeth with it so I should be a good resource. Cheers
I still do not see that thread, I just looked. I;ve spent a few hours on this but still determined to do it.

How do you think I feel?
Alright so fact, need to flash kernel 1st.
Alright I found this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1328141
Which I assume its the correct one.
I am confused at number 4,
4. Place the boot.img that you want to be flashed in the Kernel-Here folder.
Which boot.img? The one thats included in beastmod?
and 5
5. Make sure adb is enabled on your phone via settings
adb?
You always flash the ROM first then the Kernel.

I don't know what you mean by that could you be more specific please?
Do you see on the BeastMod thread where you downloaded the ROM?
Underneath it, it says "Kernel for 2.2.0" that is the boot.img download it.
As for ADB under settings this is just referring to "USB debugging" turned on.
Put the boot.img in the "Kernel Here" folder which is in the "Kernal Flash Tool v3".
Then after run the flash.bat (windows) or flash.sh(mac) file in that tool folder.
That should do it.

And where are you still having problems?
That's what I thought but I wanted to make sure that what I needed to do, I was semi sure but I do not want to brick my phone by doing a step I was not suppose to.
ADB is a confusing term debugging makes a lot more sense and that is what I figured but I did not see any reference between adb and debugging mode.
So after following these steps, this will install beastmod?
I saved my contacts, sms, and call logs using a program called supa back up, they were saved on my sd card.
Anything else I need to know?
And thank yo for taking the time to fill in the gaps I really do appreciate and hopefully this thread will help anyone else that was confused as I was.
UPDATE
Does the phone need to be in any specific mode? I have it as Disk Drive and after running the bat I get a msg saying error device not found" and "waiting for device"

The boot.img is the kernel. Flashing it doesn't mean you have BeastMod.
You need to download BeastMod and flash it through recovery to get BeastMod on your phone.
Remember to wipe data, wipe dalvik and wipe cache.
After you flash the ROM then you flash the kernel using the tool.
Sometimes the kernel needs to flashed twice to fix any issues you might have after flashing a ROM and new kernel.
First boot takes longer and after first boot, once the phone settles, reboot again.
Your phone needs to be in "charge only" and not "disk drive" for ADB to recognize it.
do not worry about bricking your phone, you actually cant since there is no s-off yet + htc hasnt released much of the sources so pretty much ur phone is locked and cant brick it.
OK I did the flash.bat, phone restarted.
So in order to install the beastmod, do I copy the beastmod file I downloaded into the sdcard? Then reboot and install it through recover?
How do I wipe the data?

Yes. Copy the zip you downloaded on to your sdcard then reboot into recovery.
Volume down + power.
Once in recovery you should have options.
First do a backup.
Then look for the options to wipe data/factory reset.
Then usually wipe cache and wipe dalvik are under the "advanced" option.
I do believe you have a custom recovery so your options might be different.
Navigate around to find the options to wipe all your data.
After you wipe then you navigate to "apply update from sdcard" and then "choose zip from sdcard" select BeastMod and flash it.
You should be ready to go.
Sorry my instructions aren't specific as I haven't rooted my Amaze or flashed a custom ROM.
So I don't know what your recovery looks like.
I am going off my experience with 7 MT4Gs and 2 Sensations.
The steps should be pretty basic when flashing a ROM anyway.
I understand that for someone who is new at this reading the instructions might seem complicated at times.
I'm just trying my best to reword those instructions for you and put it steps you can understand.
Alright, final question, do I need to make a folder for the files that in the zip folder or do I just copy them to the sdcard2 directory as the way its shown when you un zip the beastmod.zip file?

Don't unzip it. Just place the entire thing on your sdcard.
If you're flashing the ROM through recovery you should not need to unzip it.
It's just placing it on your SDcard and flashing it.
ooooh
I will try it right now then.
OK
Off topic question, Cynogen is a mod like Beastmod correct?
UPDATE
Alright its been flashed yay it works lol. Do I need to flash the kernel again? I did it before, do i have to do it afterwards as well, you mention that earlier.
Boy it looks so different...... so the Sense theme is still there but just hidden in some sort of way? Will they ever disable the security on this phone or is that permanent?
Dude if the admin are smart they will PIN this thread. I am a computer guy I fix them for a living mod the etc and damm this was a pain in the ass. The information is there but its missing certain details and its scattered, I searched around and sort of has the jist of it but honestly they should make a faq on how to more or less how its detailed in this thread, would save a lot of time and effort.
This forum is so awesome! lol
This is going to need some getting use to....
Any advice on what to do next? lol Like I said this is the 1st time I've own a phone that is not a blackberry...

Need help fast, vibrant won't boot up after attempting to flash cyanogenmod 7

Please help, having bootloop with my vibrant while trying to install cyanogenmod 7. It doesn't make it to the arrow spinning around the android, and it resarts with the words "Vibrant" then "Galaxy S Cyanogen mod". I formatted all of the internal memory I could. Now, it just says "Vibrant" and won't reboot at all (When I was in the bootloop I was able to reboot into recovery but nothing else) I'm on my spare phone right now, and I'm in need of some help. I miss my phone. I want to use it. I am almost positive I did nothing wrong. I followed all of the instructions on the mods page. Was I supposed to install cm6 first? Was there a kernel I needed to flash first? (I was running voodoo lagfix) Help. Please. Fast. Anymore details you need to know I will answer.
NOTE: Admin please remove.
yeah just odin back to stock you should not flash anything while on voodoo unless its a rom with Voodoo enabled already...but your phone is fine are you familiar with odin and the 3 buttom combo and flashin back to stock?
I am what you call a "Super noob" I have no idea how to flash roms, use odin, etc. All I know how to do is root. Thanks for the reply btw I'm really freaking out... And yes, I am familiar with the 3 button combo to boot into recovery? Also, is the stock 2.1 or 2.2 because I had to update from 2.1 to 2.2 manually. Or.... Do you choose the stock... Will I still be rooted after flashing to stock?
no worries at all bro we all gotta start somewhere as far as your phone goes you need to download odin and some files as far as the combo goes for your phone the easy one to remember when using odin is just both volume buttons make sure your usb wire is plugged to the computer then when you open odin... while holding both volume buttons on your phone connect it and you should she a yellow triangle with android and should see COM4 or COM? make sure its reading your phone and then you want to check repartition because you need to format your system check this website out and send me a PM or post here to let me know but go to this website nice little guide and your choice to go back 2.1/2.2 easier to just goto 2.2 if you want cm7 http://team-passion.com/index.php/wiki/general/15-how-to-use-odin-for-vibrant
Thanks man. Ill try this later today. I have to sleep because I've been up all night trying to fix it. Didn't know it was this easy... I will report back to you any problems or if it worked. Its just hard because my internets not working and I'm having to use my spare phone to do all of this. Comcast is coming tomarrow to fix it.I guess I could use the mobile hotpot on my MyTouch slide. The only thing is that tmobiles 3g is crappy and slow -_-
either way you do it the files are not to big the biggest file would be the tar file which is the file that hold the rom and system ui and all patchs its like 170mb so that might take the longest but use dolphin browser on desktop mode that way you dont get any corrupted files but yes you will be fine if you get lost go into the Vibrant development and in the BIBLE there are more odin guides and links good luck mate you got this
---------- Post added at 06:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:55 AM ----------
also this right here is as simple as you can do it right here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441976LOOK FOR THE ODIN PART OF THIS ROM GUIDE AND you can flash this on odin and when you do you will be rooted and ready to do what you please from here remember the ROM BIBLE has some great guides for your user experience just search and read you will become more knowledgeable to all this
Hey man, I tried Odin, and its not going into download mode. Is stuck at this screen, like its gonna show the battery animation when its plugged in. its frozen. Please help. I think I found my problem. I don't think I wiped my davlik cache when I could, but I wiped my normal cache. Thoughts?
take out your battery your sd card and sim card for 5 min then put the battery back in try a different USB port from the back of your computer while plugging the phone into the computer make sure your holding both volume buttons and you should be good to go try that and report back .....or while the phone plugged in reinsert your battery while holding those 2 volume buttons it doesnt matter what you did or didnt wipe bro this option will bring you back to normal status and rooted if your using the ROM from Fishman bionix ...let me know
---------- Post added at 09:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:28 AM ----------
the Dalvik Cache is not nearly as important as you think...it mainly only wipes apps and certrain settings... things you may have set up etc... but wouldnt cause you to bootloop CM7 is tricky tho if its done wrong ....
---------- Post added at 09:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:31 AM ----------
i found this little guide for you if none of those steps worked try this one out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475 and here are the drivers just incase http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929 maybe it wasnt reading it
Thanks man! Its downloading right now. I tried a usb 3.0 slot and it worked just fine. Ill report back if it didn't work or any roms I get to check for compatibility issues. I really apprectiate your help man. Update: It works! I'm rooting it now and I'm gonna check out some roms.
Before you Odin and presuming that you are still stuck in a bootloop, try this. Boot back into recovery and then scroll down to Install from SD and find your CM7.zip and reinstall it. Then once it is done, it should reboot on it's own.
I think that you are only experiencing the CWR mismatch and if that is the case, there is no need for Odin. Don't forget that the first boot takes the longest bc the device has to rebuild the /dalvik-cache which takes some time.
Mod note: Make sure that you are not spamming the boards with this issue. All your other posts have been deleted by a Senior Mod.
Now that you are in the Vibrant section, you can post all your questions here but above all make sure you search. This phone is almost 3 years old and most of the problems have already been solved.
Edit:::
Well I did see this part. Glad it worked but I suugest you read a bunch as you are a self-proclaimed "Super Noob" and that can be bad sometimes. Glad you got it worked out though and welcome.

awesome! glad to help check out Fishmans threads he has some really stable and smooth stuff out there if your digging the froyo still that is take it easy
Odin isn't recognizing my phone after I rooted it... Any thoughts on what could've gone wrong? I'm doing everything right...
if odin does not find your phone always try a different USB port sometimes the usb ports can over work themselves and misread from all the usb syncing going on... try restarting your computer while using a different port what steps did you take when you odin back to stock what did you do from there if i may ask :?
how did you make out on those roms? everything all set ??
Sorry, I've been busy... I installed Cyanogen 7 and I might keep this for a while before flashing Cm10. If you can recommend any roms that go nicely with Cm7 please, do. My one problem is that Cm removes the swype keyboard D: I really appreciate the help man. Thanks.
