Most cm7-like rom? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys, my new S2 arrives next week. What's the best, fastest, cleanest rooted ROM?
Used all sorts on my Desire and settled on Cm7. Hate Miui.
What's out there? Needs to be very stable and have decent battery life too and 100% functional.
Also not heard much off app and data 2 sd. Are these no longer needed given the galaxy has more internal storage?
Suggestions?

ummm..why not cm7?

Yea if you are settled on CM7 then the nightlies apparently work fine here. They don't have a "stable" yet but I always used the nightlies on my Nexus S and had little to no issues.
I too hate MIUI so if you have tastes like me maybe give VillianROM a try. That's what I'm going to try out first when my sgs2 comes next week.

I had sort of similar needs
1. CM is not fully stable and fn for everyones needs. However i occasionally try it. I am sure in the coming weeks it will be very stable.
2. I now use gingermod rom by luca. Very much like asop rom , but the best thing is that he has made samsung apps into invidual packages. So u can install the things u need.
eg: samsung drive is such a useful thing.

Thanks guys. I'll go cm7 when officially released I guess. In the.meantime will checkout your suggestions.

I used cm7 on my nexus one, however i prefer rooted and modified stock on my sgs s2.

Thanks. Do I need to worry about a2sd/d2sd with the Galaxy S2? It was essential on the Desire - I had a 750mb ext 3 partition to use for apps. Do I need to do this on the S2?

you will have about 1.5GB in your SGSII

Cm7 is good, only problems are fm radio doesn't work, and bluetooth audio doesn't work, and file transfers are slow.

Cheers. Unfortunately every one of those is a dealbreaker! Looking like gingermod will be first to go on there...

[Q] New to Thunderbolt, what ROM??

I am coming over from Tmobile...I have had the Nexus 1, G2, Mytouch4g, and G2x all rooted with custom roms. I see the Thunderbold has a ton of Gingerbread ROMS...Any advice?? Pro's/Con's???
wow, guess there is not that many Thunderbolt folks here....Over in the G2x forums Q's get answered pretty quick...
You're not getting responses because there are a zillion threads like this already. Just read the rom features, look at the screenshots & pick one. If it fits your style, stick with it. If not, try another. Your first step should be deciding if you want Sense or no Sense, then go from there.

I don't run GB because of the buggyness of it, but you GBRemix seems to be a good choice.

then you might want to go a froyo route. Das BAMF remix is very popular. I'm running the stripped (non-sense) version right now.
Then go with a Froyo-based rom. More battery & less bugs

Also not heard much about app2sd and data2sd. Necessary on the galaxy or is there enough internal storage for it not to be a problem? I use *lots* of apps...

Thinking about ics

Its been awhile since I have browsed the sgs2 forums and I stop in and notice ics is all over here. So I'm thinking of upgrading my girls s2 to 4.0 and I want opinions and stability and function of the current roms.
I'm leaning towards aokp or cm9. I have cm9 on my note and a500 so I'm fond of it obviously.
Coming from gb rooted w/ cwm full wipe and good to go I assume? I ask because in the n7k forum the leaked kernals suck and there were all these stupid methods for going from gb to ics...
Anyway thanks.

Yup full wipe. I am not running either of those ROM's so cant comment on them. I have been following Task's AOKP thread. That may be the next one I try.
If you'd like to try a Samsung based rom, give ShoStock2 a try. It's the best I've ever tried.

Ultimatum and SHOstock are excellent. AOKP is pretty sweet too.

ICS is well worth the upgrade
I've been running CM9 since the first nightly. I love it. Haven't had any issues.

I've been running aokp for a few weeks and love it so far. It has been pretty stable and fast as hell. I'm sure things are even better in the latest build, but I haven't flashed yet.
Its like when GB became available and everyone was still on Froyo- once you open the desert and have a taste, your likely not gonna go back. And now that video recording is fixed- its all gravy baby
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
Definitely go with AOKP, it's stable, fast, full of features, and rocks great battery life.
The only benefit of the Samsung ICS is MHL.

If MHL is a must, i think you're stuck with TW for now. My final choice was between aokp and cm9. Check the support/discussion threads, big difference...
No need for MHL I just want a stable ics rom for her because her miui rom is buggy as heck.
Thanks guys ill keep watching the dev section. For me aokp and cm9 are really similar so it just comes down to battery life and stability which is different for each person.

Aokp all the way baby, super stable and awesome battery. Way better than gb
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA
I've been using shoshock lastest gingerbread build. it's great. I'm waiting for a while.
Running AOKP and it's running great.
Just flash Siyah's kernel and go for dual boot to check both Samsung and AOKP/CM9 roms together.
I've been running CM9 since the first nightly. I love it. My phone feels brand new and I don't feel like upgrade it, except I want LTE.
Thanks everyone. I flashed aokp for the extra settings and customization. Its been super stable so far and battery is good but will be better once it settles. Might try siyah might not???
Anyone recommend a Better modem? Have you been getting batter with gb ones or ics ones.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
I'd go with CM9 nightlies simply because it's supported by ROM Manager which makes it ridiculously easy to flash new updates, which come very fast by the way...plus it's CM9. Good luck.
Cm9 is nice I use it on my tablet and note but lacks some features I know my girl requires.

I tested the latest LD3 but decided to change back to LC5, it is faster than the old modems and seems more stable in my area. I have been running AOKP for a while and love it.
I am enjoying CM9. Lots of Entropy involvement. Good team working on it.

ROM recommendation

Hey galaxy s2 community! Just a quick question for you guys and gals. I'm ready to flash a ROM on my phone and I think I've narrowed it down to ether aokp or shostock2. I'd like to stick to ics now that the i777 has official ics (more stable and better features) so I think I may wait like a month. I'm looking for something fast (I like showing off my quadrant scores to my HTC fan boy friends) and stable, a good battery life would be great=). Can you help me choose between aokp and shostock2? And don't turn this into a war guys=) we all know they're both amazing ROMs, I just want to know which has better battery life and stability, speed is a nice bonus=) thanks!
I come from a captivate with darkyrom if that tells anyone what kind of ROM I like=)

+1 this is a vs thread which is no bueno.
We cant choose for u. Just flash them both and see what u like. Each rom suits each persons needs differently.

In! (Again)
(⊙_⊙)
You could dual boot them using the siyah kernel. If you choose to do that download the version WITH mic swap, and try them both without flashing back and forth.
try both and see which works best for you.
As noted... no ROM fits everyone.. try a few, and see which works best for YOU.

[Q] Which rom for best battery life and stability?

Hey guys I just purchased this one for my mother who is new to smart phones. I want to ask which rom is best for battery life and is stable? I searched on this forum and people were saying ICS Passion but that was a year or two ago and I saw that it is no longer supported. It was be awesome if you guys could recommend me a rom since my mom isn't much of a flash-a-holic so I don't want to flash each and every rom to test it for a day or two.
Thanks for the help.
*As compared to stock.
Since she's new to smartphones, I'd suggest a Froyo ROM. They have great battery life and simple to use interface. I can't say specifically which Froyo is better because I have JB. (Which I don't recommend for newbies.)
Well unfortunately the problem is almost every ROM is no longer coming out with new builds because they have moved on to new things. This means that they are all working on 4.2.1. Yet cm10 and hellybean are both very stable 4.1 ROMs. This is what I am running at the moment
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
I have a hard time believing someone actually recommended Passion.
I would go with either bionix (froyo) cm7 stable build or cm10. Don't flash a ICS ROM, you run the risk of EU bug.

Which is kind of a shame because ICS zen was of the best ROMs I've ever used... Agreed to the rest
Amen, ICZen is/was the bah-bah-zee!
