I just got a new Optimus T in the mail today. EXACTLY identical to the Optimus T I had a week ago, that one I Rooted in 10 minutes with NO prior knowledge of this stuff with z4root and it worked fine. THIS device, however will NOT root
Z4root just closes ( not a fc though, just dissapears) two minutes into the process. None of the other ' one click simple roots like universal androot or easyroot they all just don't work after half a minute of thinking. I even got excited after I had successfully installed superoneclick. But even that program ended after 30 secs with a message that said FAIL (literally) WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??? Could it be the device itself? Could the manufacturer have patched the exploit?? please help me I can't be stuck with this matrix of the android community. My device must be unplugged!! Some be my Morpheus.

What version of Android is on your new phone? IIRC, my Optimus T shipped with 2.2.2. If you have Froyo 2.2.1 or 2.2.2, then use GingerBreak to root it.
ETA: Errr... I guess my phone shipped with 2.2 and I updated it to 2.2.1. Nevertheless, people with 2.2.1 or 2.2.2 should use Gingerbreak.
I had the same issue after the 2.2.2 update. I had to use Gingerbreak to root my old Optimus T
Alright thanks a whole lot guys I'm gonna give it a look see. I totally respect this community.

I accidentally installed the unrooted 2.0 that leaked a few months back... because of that i was unable to root/install different roms....
I switched to a Motorola Droid 2 Global, but today i pulled out my old htc eris and started playing with it...
I tried the rooting tutorial on the forum here with no luck... then i ran across this:
theunlockr.___com/2010/09/22/how-to-root-the-htc-droid-eris-unrevoked-method
(remove underscores...stupid rules on this forum)
A free program that rooted my eris. I then successfully installed Evil Eris v4 and am playing with it now... not sure if it will work for everyone but it worked for me...
i couldnt post this in development because i dont have enough posts but i thought someone should know if it wasnt already on here....
as a side note, my softkeys are not lighting up now that i put the new rom on.... ill have to play with it more..
The unrevoked for Eris has been kinda sketchy. Some people get it to work, some don't. And as far as your soft key lights, evil Eris doesn't have working soft key lights.

have you tried universal androot? that is my preferred method, somewhat because it's so easy and reversible.
I got the one-click root app on the market. Worked fine for me. After that, whenever I wasn't sure that I was root (after a full wipe in prep for a new rom) I just reflashed rootme.zip that it installed on my card.

You will need to root it again.
You will need to root, don't try finding "free" root program. I spent 3 hours looking for one. Finally went with Root Explorer, pay for app off the market, (which by the way is great app) to go from Steve's 1.8 to official Dell 2.2 340. Now that I am on 340 not a fan of it, standing by till Steve gets Honeycomb ROM developed and will go with that.
But the real question is after I went through the headache of getting 340, is do you really want to make the leap? (See my answer above)

Super manager is free and works if you have a rooted system.
Oneclickroot will root and sideload all of the roms I have tried.

what are you talking about? ROOT EXPLORER has nothing to do with ROOTING your device.
NO ONE HAS TO PAY FOR ROOT if you DID you should buy an iPhone.

I have the Fascinate and I love it.
But for the last few days I have tried many different roots, all work until I want to go into clockwork. What are the correct steps from step one to loading clockwork and load a rom, preferably miui. I had the og droid and was great at booting and loading rom's but the fascinate is throwing me for a loop.
Soo with that said I would like to make a request for anyone willing to do it, please show/tell me how to do this. I have seen posts on new roms, but not rooting updates and etc.

I believe power washed ed05 froyo has the latest market.
Ive been reading and searching, i have 2.11.605.0 installed on my phone from factory. Is there anything special, like downgrade or anything, that i need to do to run revolutionary?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I rooted with Revolutionary from .5 without a problem, so I don't think so - as far as I can tell you only need to worry about downgrading from .9 to root.
it's weird that your phone came with such an old firmware version installed...did it ever try to run any OTA upgrades?

Very nice. I'm still running the Incredible but will probably get a Tbolt this week. The Inc is in perfect condition but I'm looking for a larger screen and a front facing camera. Plus I can pick one up for $49. While the Bionic is nice and the GNex is the caddy, I'm just not going to spend that kind of money.
Thats how i felt, im very happy with this phone. Actually runnin the same rom by newt i had on dinc, mcrunny sense!

Incredible to TBolt
Hey Guys -
Got and rooted my TBolt on Thu 1/5.
It came w/ same (older?) software as Donny.
For grins, intellectual curiosity mostly, I chose to d/l and install OTA's, then root. When following the step-by-step guides @ the links below, easy as pie.
downgrade
http://www.thunderboltforums.com/forum/htc-thunderbolt-development/7218-how-downgrade-get-s-off-after-updating-latest-ota-2-11-605-9-a.html
then this to S-OFF, Recovery, and Superuser
http://www.thunderboltforums.com/forum/htc-thundebolt-hacking-guides/5259-rs-approved-revolutionary-5-minutes-less-root-without-data-loss.html
Only oddity was when running the exploit it seemed to hang on "Waiting for Device". I poked around a couple forums for advice, and tried toggling USB Debugging and off it went.
Running CM 7.1.1 - just like on Incredible - like this new device quite a bit!
Happy to help others via PM if they may have questions.
Kind regards.

Hi
I want to root my atrix 4G again, I had it rooted on 2.3.4 Gingerbread but I upgraded the software when 2.3.6 (4.5.141 came out. When I was using 2.3.4 I had used Pete's Root Tools. Has there been an update to this app?? I don't want to use the command line way to root this version because I don't wanna brick my phone. Is there another way just like there was in 2.3.4 with Pete's Tools in the latest version 2.3.6?
Please help!
Thanks!!
Wait, you're worried about bricking your phone by using command line, but are happy to try a random app? That makes no sense at all...
All that rooting apps do is execute the same commands you'd be typing in. At least when you're doing it yourself you KNOW which commands you're issuing and whether they worked. If something does go wrong, you will be able to see where and why; as opposed to writing yet another "clicked a button, phone stopped working, WTF just happened!?" post.
PS, I don't think it is possible to brick the phone trying to root it.

You need to give more info, are you on ATT? or overseas?
Command line is MUCH safer than an app that you don't even know what it's doing.
I was sketched out myself doing it all and frankly have no idea if I did it the recommended way, but it worked, and was fairly easy.. For the command line stuff if you're nervous just look at like 3 or 4 different write ups... the commands will be basically all the same...
I read through like 3 and watched a couple youtube videos on it...
Although that's always been my biggest gripe about this place, there isn't ever just a clear cut simple explination or walk through of everything, it's like learning from a Greek, they make you figure it out as a method of teaching... which can be good or bad mainly bad IMO...
but I can't offer you clear instructions so good luck!
I agree. Many of the guides out there are not much help. That is why I made the guide linked below. If you can't follow it, you shouldn't be messing with your phone.

There is a tool called super one click. It works the same as petes root tool. I agree with the above mentioned comments though. Learn to manually do it yourself.

It doesn't work on GB236. None of the automated scrips do. But I agree, doing it manually is a good learning experience.

Definitely find a good guide and figure out how to do it with command line, I spent 2 hours messing with super one click (kept failing) then about 15 minutes later had it done with command line. searching it took about 3 seconds to find a link to a guide...
