Found a new way to root eris: - Droid Eris General

I accidentally installed the unrooted 2.0 that leaked a few months back... because of that i was unable to root/install different roms....
I switched to a Motorola Droid 2 Global, but today i pulled out my old htc eris and started playing with it...
I tried the rooting tutorial on the forum here with no luck... then i ran across this:
theunlockr.___com/2010/09/22/how-to-root-the-htc-droid-eris-unrevoked-method
(remove underscores...stupid rules on this forum)
A free program that rooted my eris. I then successfully installed Evil Eris v4 and am playing with it now... not sure if it will work for everyone but it worked for me...
i couldnt post this in development because i dont have enough posts but i thought someone should know if it wasnt already on here....

as a side note, my softkeys are not lighting up now that i put the new rom on.... ill have to play with it more..

The unrevoked for Eris has been kinda sketchy. Some people get it to work, some don't. And as far as your soft key lights, evil Eris doesn't have working soft key lights.

have you tried universal androot? that is my preferred method, somewhat because it's so easy and reversible.

I got the one-click root app on the market. Worked fine for me. After that, whenever I wasn't sure that I was root (after a full wipe in prep for a new rom) I just reflashed rootme.zip that it installed on my card.

Im afraid of rooting Vibrant. I rooted my Mt3g with ease. But this.

I rooted the MT3G with ease. And the flashing of Roms and stuff is easy for Mt3g. But it seems hard for the Vibrant. I don't use abd or anything cause frankly. I don't know how. Can you guys maybe give me suggestions?

Read, understand, experiment. Ppl only get their troubles or "panic" because they dont have anything setup & dont know how to get them selves out it. If you dont want to learn our try to use the tools that are available then just wait till the one-click ROMS or CM comes out.
If you want to take the time to learn then I would suggest to head over to the vibrant "bible".
Easiest way is just to down load one click lag fix from market there is a root option there. Or it really was easy this oas my first android phone. Download the update filter put it in the internal sd and rebooted using hold vol + vol- and power. And installed from there no problem.
Just check out the stickied thread about vibrant tips and tricks

There is also a "One Click Lag Fix" that you can download here, it takes like 20 seconds to root this phone, you shouldn't be scared

I wondered about rooting too at first, but as it turns out it's very easy. I've read several comments on how easy it is to root the Vibrant compared to Android phones back in the olden days.
And if you want to flash a neat ROM, go check out Bionix.

I just got this phone 2 days ago (my first smartphone ever!) and I've flashed it probably 6 or 7 times now...
Important advice: Right now, once you've installed Clockwork ROM Manager, make a backup of your ROM! I really wish I'd done this, just a near-stock, untouched backup (yes every thread post starts with "make a backup!" but I was stupid)
Now for some encouragement: If I, with zero knowledge of Android/rooting/ROMs/build.prop files/Clockwork/adb/Odin before Sunday at 4 pm, managed to F with this phone as much as I have and not even come close to bricking it, you'll be *golden* just flashing it with a well-known ROM.
Flashing ROMs is super easy with Clockwork. It's like... 3 or 4 clicks easy.
Right now I'm running Bionix and really enjoying it. You might check it out while we all wait for Cyanogenmod to come out for Vibrant.
TL;DR: I've been pushing files, flashing broken ROMs, all sorts of fun stuff and my phone is still pluggin' away. I wouldn't worry too much about bricking. Just read the threads, search the Googles, and ask for help if you get really stuck. And backup.
Make sure you check out Eugene323's stuff as well. He puts out some incredible work.

I had more problems with my MT3G than I did with this phone. It took a day to root and rom the MT3G since I have the one with the head phone jack (stupid gold card crap).
Do what everyone has suggested. DL the One Click Lag Fix and touch the option to root. I'm running the Bionix 1.3 and it's good.

[Q] Dx2 Cant Root

Ok, i'm not a noob but i'm not the best at this stuff either. i have searched for the past 3 days. Got my DX2 the other day coming from a droid incredible. Day one of the incredible i had it rooted, then had it S-off not far after.
Day one with the dx, havent done much research. Get the phone, check for system updates, it says it has an update for 2.3.3. O yay, i don't have to wait to get gb on here. woohoo. DL it while at work since i shouldn't be playing on the phone anyway.
Get home. go online to try see what i have to do to get root so i can get some screen shots going and just all around get it back to the feel of having control of my phone. see a few ways of root, all of them saying to sbf back to 2.2. Well damn, wish i hadnt updated. Ok, lets try this sbf thing.
IDK why, but it won't let me sbf. Ive tried. Several times. No dice, always says failed.
Lets keep looking. O yay, a one click method for the ota GB?!?! woohoo!! i try it....try it several times. try it more times.....WTMFHELL!!???!!!?? i got nothing. i don't know why it wont let me root it...but it wont. if anyone has any advice, any tips...anything at all, i'm all ears. i've tried sbf, i've tried the adb commands but for some reason it won't let me use adb, says java isn't in the path, cant fix it. tried one click, different variations of one click. i got nothing
build number 4.5.1a-dtn-117-15
if anyone can help me i would greatly GREATLY APPRECIATE IT
sorry for the long wind
thanks for your time
-Typhoone
There is a one click root that i just used on a freinds phone and it worked great and you don't have to do any of that sbf'ing or anything...

go to market and download app called busybox installer, it will give you options to what version of busybox you want...select 1.18.2 and try to install.
Won't open. Can't run, may be because it doesn't have root rights

Maybe try to sbf to froyo 2.2 and then install P3's Rooted GB update, have you tried that?
it won't let me sbf, keep getting a failure every time i've tried.
does it try to sbf then fail? Does the phone show up in RSD?
Try a different sbf file maybe the one you have is corrupt.
WWW.k33pw1shen.WordPress.com I have all the files over there
Dx2RGB.E
The only reason I referred you there is someone commented on my page that they had tried a couple different things and mine was the only one that worked
Dx2RGB.E
tried it using a different sbf file and a different usb port on my comp and its in the process of makine me feel like it just may work.
just rebooted and
bootlooped. lol

thanks for your help, greatly appreciated.

i know i'm late, but are you sure you were on charging mode, i know its a bit out there but that could effect.... ALOT
Side note, none of the screen cap apps on the market work on the x2. I believe it's a tegra 2 issue.
Someone wrote an app called "Screen Grabber" for the Atrix that works perfectly on the x2.

My OptimusT wont Root.

I just got a new Optimus T in the mail today. EXACTLY identical to the Optimus T I had a week ago, that one I Rooted in 10 minutes with NO prior knowledge of this stuff with z4root and it worked fine. THIS device, however will NOT root
Z4root just closes ( not a fc though, just dissapears) two minutes into the process. None of the other ' one click simple roots like universal androot or easyroot they all just don't work after half a minute of thinking. I even got excited after I had successfully installed superoneclick. But even that program ended after 30 secs with a message that said FAIL (literally) WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??? Could it be the device itself? Could the manufacturer have patched the exploit?? please help me I can't be stuck with this matrix of the android community. My device must be unplugged!! Some be my Morpheus.

What version of Android is on your new phone? IIRC, my Optimus T shipped with 2.2.2. If you have Froyo 2.2.1 or 2.2.2, then use GingerBreak to root it.
ETA: Errr... I guess my phone shipped with 2.2 and I updated it to 2.2.1. Nevertheless, people with 2.2.1 or 2.2.2 should use Gingerbreak.
I had the same issue after the 2.2.2 update. I had to use Gingerbreak to root my old Optimus T
Alright thanks a whole lot guys I'm gonna give it a look see. I totally respect this community.

Just got tbolt, about to root, have a question

Ive been reading and searching, i have 2.11.605.0 installed on my phone from factory. Is there anything special, like downgrade or anything, that i need to do to run revolutionary?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I rooted with Revolutionary from .5 without a problem, so I don't think so - as far as I can tell you only need to worry about downgrading from .9 to root.
it's weird that your phone came with such an old firmware version installed...did it ever try to run any OTA upgrades?

Very nice. I'm still running the Incredible but will probably get a Tbolt this week. The Inc is in perfect condition but I'm looking for a larger screen and a front facing camera. Plus I can pick one up for $49. While the Bionic is nice and the GNex is the caddy, I'm just not going to spend that kind of money.
Thats how i felt, im very happy with this phone. Actually runnin the same rom by newt i had on dinc, mcrunny sense!

Incredible to TBolt
Hey Guys -
Got and rooted my TBolt on Thu 1/5.
It came w/ same (older?) software as Donny.
For grins, intellectual curiosity mostly, I chose to d/l and install OTA's, then root. When following the step-by-step guides @ the links below, easy as pie.
downgrade
http://www.thunderboltforums.com/forum/htc-thunderbolt-development/7218-how-downgrade-get-s-off-after-updating-latest-ota-2-11-605-9-a.html
then this to S-OFF, Recovery, and Superuser
http://www.thunderboltforums.com/forum/htc-thundebolt-hacking-guides/5259-rs-approved-revolutionary-5-minutes-less-root-without-data-loss.html
Only oddity was when running the exploit it seemed to hang on "Waiting for Device". I poked around a couple forums for advice, and tried toggling USB Debugging and off it went.
Running CM 7.1.1 - just like on Incredible - like this new device quite a bit!
Happy to help others via PM if they may have questions.
Kind regards.

Rooting Atrix 4g ?? PLEASE HELP!!

Hi
I want to root my atrix 4G again, I had it rooted on 2.3.4 Gingerbread but I upgraded the software when 2.3.6 (4.5.141 came out. When I was using 2.3.4 I had used Pete's Root Tools. Has there been an update to this app?? I don't want to use the command line way to root this version because I don't wanna brick my phone. Is there another way just like there was in 2.3.4 with Pete's Tools in the latest version 2.3.6?
Please help!
Thanks!!
Wait, you're worried about bricking your phone by using command line, but are happy to try a random app? That makes no sense at all...
All that rooting apps do is execute the same commands you'd be typing in. At least when you're doing it yourself you KNOW which commands you're issuing and whether they worked. If something does go wrong, you will be able to see where and why; as opposed to writing yet another "clicked a button, phone stopped working, WTF just happened!?" post.
PS, I don't think it is possible to brick the phone trying to root it.

You need to give more info, are you on ATT? or overseas?
Command line is MUCH safer than an app that you don't even know what it's doing.
I was sketched out myself doing it all and frankly have no idea if I did it the recommended way, but it worked, and was fairly easy.. For the command line stuff if you're nervous just look at like 3 or 4 different write ups... the commands will be basically all the same...
I read through like 3 and watched a couple youtube videos on it...
Although that's always been my biggest gripe about this place, there isn't ever just a clear cut simple explination or walk through of everything, it's like learning from a Greek, they make you figure it out as a method of teaching... which can be good or bad mainly bad IMO...
but I can't offer you clear instructions so good luck!
I agree. Many of the guides out there are not much help. That is why I made the guide linked below. If you can't follow it, you shouldn't be messing with your phone.

Definitely find a good guide and figure out how to do it with command line, I spent 2 hours messing with super one click (kept failing) then about 15 minutes later had it done with command line. searching it took about 3 seconds to find a link to a guide...
