I found that galaxy S2's volume using earphones (stock ) is very low when playing songs & movies ...
Also in call volume using the stock earphones is also very low . ( Volume is maxed )
The speaker volume seems to be comparitively louder than earphones but it is also not very loud .
I also own an iPhone 4 & made some tests ....
I used the stock samsung earphones on iPhone 4 , and volume for songs/movies was very loud , but the same earphones used on GS2 had a low volume .
Also , i used iPhone earphones on galaxy S2 , but they also were low .
I played an avi movie on iPhone , & the earphone max volume was very good .
But the same movie when played on GS2 , the max volume was very low ( when comparing it to the iPhone it was very low ).
Why is this so .??
Is it a harware limitation of SGS2 .? Does it have a bad audio chip .?
Or is it just a FW ( ROM ) issue , where volume is capped .??
Also are there any custom ROM's that have better volume than stock ROM's .??
You could try two apps.
For free, search XDA for Volume +.
Or as paid, AudioBoost, in Market.
Regards.
You could also search in the Q&A section multiple posts/fixes on this topic .

I've bought AudioBoost for S2, the volume is higher but the quality is not what I expected.
I prefer what I got with an iphone or at least GS i9000 with voodoo.
Some are reporting better sound on 2.3.5 update .
I dont know as my sound has always been as good as IPhone 4 .

Are you sure you've heard iPhone quite well ..
SGS2 is nowhere near my iPhone in terms of volume ....
Test once again SGS2 Sony MDR EX71 headphones
1812 mp3
Sound level 6 low on opening bars but after plenty loud enough .
Sound level 8 normal on opening bars after a bit to loud
Sound level 9 normal on opening bars after far to loud
Sound level 10 cannot use to loud .
Best setting sound level 7 .
Cannot cross reference to IPhone 4 as its gone for a few weeks .

I have to have the volum on 2-5. My friend got an Iphone 4 and my was a little louder than his.
so far no fix, sgs2 users tend to ignore this problem on the forums. You won't find a working solution, I've searched for days. Trail's gone cold and we're left with this problem. Samsung doesn't care to fix it either, and the userbase seems complacent.
Really disappointing, I have to ebay this phone.

I have used power amp., its good, but i think the stock earphone is not that good.
how does soundmagic pl 30 or pl21 compare to the stock?
i am looking for good and rich bass.
suggest me some nice ones (not so expensive)
I know this is not the section to ask questions about earphones but still couldnt resist.
I noticed a strange thing with my phone this week after charging the battery: Yesterday, I charged the battery fully and then used the phone for about 12 hours before I switched it off for the night. Today I started it and had it on for about seven hours. When I check battery usage, it showed only the current seven hours. It appears to have "forgotten" that it had been running throughout 12 hours yesterday.
I switched it off for about an hour today and started it up again to test and now the seven hours are there and it behaves normally. This I have noticed the last two times I charged the battery. The phone "forgets" the first post-charge use but goes on to work perfectly after that. I do not experience this as an issue directly because I think the battery life is very good and the phone works without problems, but I'm curious. Are there any of you Galaxy SII owners who noticed the same thing?
I find stock player +stock earphones excellent .
But i know nothing about music that requires extra treble or bass .
jje
I am using Sennheiser CX 400 II, I think they are pretty good for the price (of course there are better). Using Power Amp bass and treble.
when i plug in my stock earphones and press the menu and navigate (using launcher pro) there is a digital noise in each operation (ex scroll through menu makes a noise also returning to home page makes a noise)
is it the problem with firmware or phone? or is it completely normal?
however these are not audible when the music is playing at the background.
baseband version i9100ddke2 and build number is wxke8.
Sorry for asking so many questions, I am new to android.
Hope u guys dont mind., thanks in advance.

As long as you don't go with something like "OH GOD HELP MY PHONE WILL DIE!!!!How do I use the camera?PLEASE HELP!" no,we don't mind. You're cool till now.
Well, that is probably something with the magnetic shielding of the phone or the earphones. Are you holding the phone too close to the earphones?Electromagnetic waves affect the operation of speakers' magnets.Maybe try a different pair of earphones.
I would suggest AKG.They have some nice cheap models(Less than 10 euros) which are actually pretty good.I use a pair of those for when I'm on the go(I have some 70 euro AKGs at home ) and the sound is spot on.Rich bass too.
I'm used to an iPhone, this thing at max only goes to 2/3 of what an iPhone does, I've tried things like Volume+ and it doesn't do anything only make the music distorted and unlistenable not actually any louder. Now I appreciate I'm gonna get "I can't listen to it at full volume" replies, but I am saying its no where near the volume of an iPhone. Its ok in quiet environment but outside or at work any ambient noise is clearly heard over the top, its a real let down for me this and to be honest it can be smart to launch missiles but if I can't hear my music I couldn't care less what else it can do.
your doing it wrong
50% volume level fine indoors for me 70% outside .
A large number of same questions re the sound have been asked a search amongst them will find some sound improving tips .
jje
I'm running stock still and at around 70-80% volume with my iems, you already can't hear any ambient noise at all outside or in a train. Maybe try changing your headset for something else.
The earphones that came with this phone are pretty loud, even with ambient noise, if it's not loud enough for you, you may have hearing damage from listening to music loudly for long periods of time
I thought about the hearing damage but then how do we explain the ambient noise? The stock headphones are nasty, mine sound very muddy, I am using Sennheisers but doesn't make any difference.
Had the exact same issue on my Desire S previously.

I don't think this is the issue, sound quality is a different complaint from sound volume, your complaint thus far is about sound volume, and everyone who has replied thus far has said that this phone is pretty loud, I for one cannot listen to this phone at max volume with the stock headphones.
If your complaint is about SQ, then you should make that clear, so, if the volume is too low when maxed, you should maybe compare using another pair of ears or even better, another SGS2, if the issue is SQ, it has already been stated that this is a drawback when compared to the first SGS which had a superior sound processor
Alright I've seen countless threads here about how 'crap' the music quality is. I beg to differ. Go into the music settings, and put your equalizer to 'Rock'. Now if that doesn't make your music sound bloody brilliant then you need to get your ears checked - or maybe it's just me.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
On the contrary, if you think the sound level on the SGS2 is "bloody brilliant", you're probably coming off a very low base (iPod w/stock earbuds anyone ?).
Without using Louder or the app YahYoh posted on here a couple of weeks ago, the sound on the SGS2 lacks "oomph" for want of a better word. Using either of these apps improves this situation somewhat, but it's still nowhere near as good as pretty much every mp3 player on the market (even the cheap ones).
The actual quality of the sound is pretty reasonable, but many people will tell you the sound on the SGS was much better due to the Wolfson sound chip.
I disagree if my SGS2 is used with a sound level of 50% its fine 60% is far to loud .
I actually took the trouble to compare my SGS one with SGS two with exact same file and earphones . No real difference when tested on a high quality audio sample .Also tested against standard MP3 players . Tested all the varying hacks posted no difference .
There are a number of reasons as to why poor sound for some .
One some production runs look to have lower sound output .
Two possible;e likewise for stock headphones .
Three a lot of users are probably using poorly coded music
Four distorted bass seems to be a requirement of some users
Five obviously different users have different hearing
Six the biggest reason of all you are listing to crap music .

So whenever I use headphones with my 4X it has terrible static noise in the background. My 3X had the same problem and to fix it I applied this mod which made wonders for the sound quality both on the headphone jack and the speaker on the back.
I was just wondering if there is a similar mod for the 4X somewhere? I tried Divine Beats but it did not work and even if it did I'm not sure it would fix the static noise. I have tried installing Ainur Sauron and Ainur JamesDSP which does allow me to change the sound but either it can't remove the static or I don't understand how to do it.
are you on custom roms ? i had this issue on custom roms , all of them . it is good on miui . to fix this you can flash hifi mod from mods section . it fix the noise somewhat
I am on Slim, and I don’t have any such problem.

Yes I am on Lineage.
You will not fix it, atleast i never found solution. People which claims there is no noise have really bad hearing or terrible headphones. It's mostly audible at night with in-ear headphones, listetning to quiet stuff or audiobooks etc.. there is clear noise but if you listen to loud music ofc you wont hear it, i believe it's a problem with a ****ty audio processor. (i also had the same problem in my previous Xiaomi phone - mi4c)
Also it doesnt matter which ROM you are, it's the same on custom ROM's and MIUI.
try using this https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72135125&postcount=344

I'm not having any issues with sound and I'm on MIUI 9 Global Dev Rom. (At least until this 54hr wait to unlock Bootloader goes by) I'm using Poweramp Pro for music and MX Player Pro for videos. My hearing is average and considering that I had been a DJ for around 15 years I've got some pretty decent headphones ( Pioneer HDJ-2000MK2 & Technics RP-DJ1200) with no issues when it comes to sound..

Cool, now try with any in-ear headphones with volume on minimum listetning to audiobook or talk show for example. Not loud music that overrides all the noise & distortion.

Maybe your phone has a problem. Mine doesn't - and, apparently, neither does his. Nothing is wrong with my ears (I am a musician of over 35 years experience), and nothing is wrong with my in-ear headphones (I use them for recording, mixing and playback on 5 different devices). The sound on my RN4X is not that much different from those on two iPads and one iPod. In fact, it often sounds better. There is no point trying to convince us that we all have your problem, because we don't.
pretty sure its a problem on custom roms . i use in-ear headphones too and didnt had this problem on miui . but on custom roms there are noise .
btw flash this . it will fix it but there is still some little noise . best fix i could find .
Have you tried this.......

<-- this one gets it
It's a combination of several factors
you can make sound worse when raising stack-protector from "regular" to "strong"
the same applies by using weird kernel / gcc / toolchain optimizations that mess with code
mostly you can reduce that "white noise" or "hissing", murmor by lowing the AMP levels on headphones in mixer_paths.xml file
it certainly also is influenced by the audio processing libs (drivers) of the ROM & hardware - too much processing can make sound muddy, raise amp and increase white noise (e.g. background noise when listening to classic music recordings [non-digital music])
having headphohes with a somewhat higher impedance also helps
having a ****ty standard DAC can contribute to it
enabling the "high performance" mode on wcd9xxx chipsets certainly contributes to it - it might make output more "powerful" but that comes at cost of sound clarity (at least from my experience)
reducing that "white noise" of course comes at a cost:
the loudness is reduced and some details can be lost
a common and known approach (when having FauxSound in kernel) is to reduce AMP
@zacharias.maladroit yeah i figured it awhile ago, actually lowering headphone AMP is working surprisingly well to negate (or atleast minimize) the issue. FauxSound is a must have for me personally, i'd get rid of this phone without it to be honest.

is it FauxSound (the "original") or e.g. Franco's sound control
in any case: what kernel, ROM and what app to control sound AMP are you using ?
Good to know that this device has FauxSound available
Was sound quality bad on MIUI ?
I might be switching to this device since I really need battery "backup" (a long battery runtime), since listening to music with current flagship devices makes me anxious (battery dropping down rather quickly) and I need long battery runtime due to reading ebooks (skimming, researching, reading), browsing the web, etc.

Original FauxSound, currently running MiracleDROID with stock kernel and Franco Kernel Manager. But also big fan of OmniROM due to Delta Updates out of box and weekly builds.
Most stock kernels have cound control implemented from what i've noticed, if not i just flash Franco Kernel over. (that's probably franco's sound control)
Sound quality is not bad it's just the white noise / hissing, i listen to stuff at night mostly so it was super noticable at quiet parts, but overall it's not bad at all cant complain.
Honestly no regrets after buying this phone and using it for like a year, i have never seen that active XDA community for any phone, it's actually #1 in terms of activity on official LineageOS website which is crazy considering it was released not that long time ago. https://www.lineageoslog.com/statistics
If you are looking for great battery life then just go for it, it's actually insane few times i hit SoT of around 14 hours with 2-3 days uptime.. battery is probably the strongest side of Mido.
Here's my current battery life just to give you idea.
