I recently rooted my gf's phone and installed IHO cm7.1 on there. Evrything went fine. I was teacher her how to use wifi tethering(with barnacle) and it would do everything right(get su permissions, etc.) And it said it was broadcasting, but I could not find the network at all. Not on my sidekick 4g, not on her wii, and not on my computer. so I tried doing tethering through the settings on the phone, and when I enabled it, the phone restarted. Any of you guys have the same problem? I read the optimus v didn't have tethering, but I thought that was just a software thing, not hardware.

It works fine on my phone. I am also using IHO (the purity x version though), but I don't have service, so idk if will do the same thing. I would try re-flashing the rom after doing a backup. It might have to do with the kernel, which you could just flash a new version of that.
Thanks for your help. I tried doing it from the settings again, and it worked . Problem solved!

I am rooted and using Cyanogen 7. Either yesterday or today I lost the ability to tether wirelessly to my ipad. I've tried Wifi Tether, Barnacle, and the wireless tether app that comes with CM7. I can find and connect on my ipad but it isn't actually working. Any ideas?

Just out of curiosity are you on 3g or 4g?

Same here. Looks like VZW finally blocked us. Frickin ridiculous...telling me what to do with my unlimited data plan!! Internets out at home too. :-(
Same here...
Ok, after messing with it for about an hour I got it working. I had wifi connected, then hit the tether button for the 99th time and it worked. So I tried USB tethering and that worked too...for 5 minutes.
It's working again finally after going back and forth between wifi and usb, but it's not very fast. Who knows at this point...
I got it to work by flashing to another ROM. Tethering worked without an issue. I tried to flashback to CM7 but it seemed like my backup was corrupted, it wouldn't install. Im not sure if the update has caused these problems. I know just enough about ROMS and developement stuff to get me into trouble.
Before you flash a stock Rom there is an app called tetherguard.apk make sure that app is no where to be found before flashing the Rom then any WiFi tether program will work.

Hello, all. I am wondering if anybody can help me resolve a issue with wifi tethering .. I can't for the life of me, get it to work.. I'm using HTC Droid Eris rooted (unknown source) on cricket network, I see no errors while I start up and it says sharing connection, but I can't see it on any devices! I've tried, barnicale, Google's code site, and just about every other tether app I could find! Is this an issue with cricket itself, cm7, or maybe kernel!? Please help! Thanks in advance

Did you find a solution? 2.0.7 doesn't work for me either. the wireless tether hasn't worked for me since i flashed 7.1 CyanogenMod.
I am using CM7 and Barnacle works for me but I have to press both start and associate. I also have troubles with wifi tether.
I've been using cm7 for months and barnacle and the wireless tether 2.0.7 both work normally for me. You try wiping everything reflashing then installing apps one at a time to see if that fixes your problem?

I stopped using 2.0.7 a long time ago. It was killing my battery even while it was plugged in. Currently I am using the 3.x beta series of Wireless Tether (I am currently using beta 6) with KhosFroyo v39 (am preparing to move away from this soon) via Verizon Wireless.
Check to make sure you can access data using a web browser. Also check to make sure you can connect to a wifi network. If you can't find wifi networks with the phone, your wifi antenna may be damaged.
When using tethering, make sure wi-fi is disabled first (tethering will start it automatically).
Then start up tethering after defining the Eris in the profile settings. Your devices shouldn't have any problems seeing it. I've had up to 3 laptops + an Xbox 360 connected all at once.
whats rom-version you have?
I am using cm7 and barnacle. I can't use any security and had to change the custom wifi adhoc setting to hero/Eris.

If you are trying to tether another device to your Eris, you need to make sure that the 2nd device can see "Adhoc" networks. You may need a different wpa_supplicant file on the 2nd device.
I'm running GSBv4.2 -CM7.1-11152011 with the Wireless Tether v2.0.2. I've used Barnacle on other ROMs also.
here i got this with a rom and it's worked on every rom i've ever flashed since i got it. copy both of em, use the the app with the green logo

Only tether suggestion that worked for me. Major props. Cm7 rom
Im using the Mac rom mr8 sr1 and I figured out the problem.. it was working the whole time, I jus was trying tether it to another android and a PSP.. and neither one of those support ad-hoc. So I flashed a wifi supplicant that lets the android connect to ad-hoc! I still havnt found a way to push the tether on an Eris into an infrastructure tether yet... so if anybody's seen that work, let me know.. I use both Samsung galaxy s and the eris.. it would be nice to have the Eris push out a normal AP, and not ad-hoc

Hey. Got an AT&T ATRIX 4G phone with Nottachtrix4G Rom. Long story short my Wifi doesn't seem to work anymore. I know my router is fine because I use my laptop everyday. I tried removing and re-adding the network. I also went into recovery and deleted the cache and stuff. The network connects fine, and gets an IP but I can't load anything like facebook, browser, radio, etc. Any suggestions besides full wipe? Thanks
PS: im a network / computer tech for my job, so im not a noob and know for a fact its not my network.

do you have MAC filter on your router?
Nope.
I will also add it worked fine a week ago. Then it just stopped working.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
you can try with another browser, or try to clean app data. Or just make new connection
Issue had to do with my router and wireless access point. Rebooted both and no issues since.

I am sure I have some kind of software issue that is embedded into the os somewhere. I have tried multiple factory wipes and the Wi-Fi will work for a few minutes then go to error when running on. I have a rooted photon running 2.3.5. Is it possible I can copy my wife's factory non-rooted photon recovery files to mine? Or can I run a custom recovery to fix whatever conflict I seem to be having?

If this is just happening at home try resetting your router.
It's happened to me and that fixed it.

Its not a router issue. I'm not as tech savvy as I was 15 years ago but I'm not a total dummy. When turning “On" Wi-Fi it shows error, it will not enable the radio. I've searched the forums and Google tried the FUMO.apk fix for the botched update. Tried numerous Wi-Fi fixers but they seem to only "fix" connection issues rather than radio issues. I upgraded to this phone so I don't mind flashing anything that may work on the photon. Just hoping to get pointed in the right direction.

Depending on your phone one of these posts might help.
2.3.5 locked is tricky.

My wifi doesn't work either - it just says Wi-Fi: error. I'm on MOFv2.0ish, not in the US, and I expected these problems to be taken care of either in the OTA or in the rooted ROM.
Can anyone recommend a way to get back to 2.3.4, keeping the unlocked bootloader and bypassing Sprint activation? I don't think it would be a good idea to install the bone-stock OS since it may want to do a Sprint activation on first boot.
I've also tried CM10.1 and the GSM didn't work. Any recommendations would be appreciated. If only the wifi worked this ROM would be great.
I have updated to Lollypop and rooted it. I have a Pioneer NEX4100 that runs Android Auto. It recognizes it and installs the app but it has a connection error.
Has anyone used the Note 3 with Android Auto?
Frustrated.

Did you try to "forget" the paired device, then re pair?

I did. I uninstalled and reinstalled. I tried my wifes HTC M8 and that didn't work either. Hope it is not the radio. Yours working fine?
Also upgraded firmware 1.3

I don't have auto, just trying to help with usual stuff. It sounds like an issue with the auto, not the phones. I'd maybe hard reset the auto if you can.

Fyi, I have this same issue on my T-Mo Note 3, I have tried multiple roms on the phone, and I have tried 6 other phones!!! I think the issue lies in the cars driver support for different devices.
The only phone I was able to get to work was an old Motorola Droid... Super obscure.
Friend of mine had the same issue updated the firmware on the radio fixed it
