Issue after trying to root - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Not sure if this is the right place for this question.
I attempted to root my Galaxy S2. I downloaded Odin, a zimage file, superoneclick.
I ran Odin, flashed the zimage file. But then superoneclick refused to work so decided to not continue with the root.
However the phone has all sorts of issues. One being Kies refuses to work now
Whenever I plug in a USB cable and try and run Kies it says its not supported connection type.(i noticed since i tried to root, the phone doesn't go into Kies mode when on the home screen)
I've done a factory restore on the phone by pressing volume up, home and power and restored it all. But the problem still occurs.
I've tried to update the firmware but I cannot find it anywhere.
I'm on Virgin UK and there isn't anywhere a stock file.
Edit:
Whenever the phone switches on theres an exclamation mark warning sign on the bootlogo
Can I please have some help undoing what i've done? I just want the phone back to how it was

What zimage file? You're supposed to flash the cf-root kernel, and that's it.

RESOLVED.
I ensured Kies wasn't running. Then opened ODIN and used an Original PDA file(in my case XWKF3, can be found by dialling *#1234# on the phone), then restarting the phone in download mode, volume down + home + power. Flashed the new zImage for the original file. Everything now works perfectly!

[Q] SGS2 softbricked ?

First time poster, long time lurker.
After spending over 2 weeks reading thread after thread I'm more confused then when I first started !
Using CM7nightly#105, CWM installed as recovery (not sure if as a kernel as well or not ) I decided to use the fantastic SiyahKernal.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263838
I Set the govner to ### and then within CM7 settings I set the CPU OC upto 1600MHz, UC downto 100MHz
Once I turned the phone off and back on again, I am no longer able to get into recovery mode. Turning on normal I get the "Samsung GalaxyS2" logo with the Warning Triangle showing that I have broken warenty, but it freezes and same goes for having the phone off and plugging it into a power source (USB or AC) it just freezes and nothing happens.
BUT I am able to get into download mode, so I'm taking that as a good sign that my phone isn't 100% bricked.
Odin isn't reconizing it, and nether is Windows7 AT ALL ! (most likly an unrelated issue)
I'm so stuck on idea's rite now, also afraid to send it in for repairs because obviously I have broken the warenty and don't know were that would leed, another problem being that it's also on a plan so I would rather not have to go and buy a new one unless I don't tell them about the finer details. The battery is dead because I thought it would charge in download mode, it didn't.. but it does let me enter download mode when connect to a USB or AC it just comes up with the mesage "Battery Empty can't download" or something similar.
If I have missed a thread with someone else having the same issue please redirect me there, if anyone has ANY hints at all or anything I could to get my phone back into working order I would greatly welcomed and I'm sure there might be a way I could repay you for the effort
Thanks in advanced ! Need anymore questions please ask.
I'm not a 'noob' I have an understanding of the basics and how most of it works regarding flashing like that the SGS2 doesn't need a .PIT file because it's already in EXT4 format so I'm pretty sure it isn't a problem regarding that, I'm thinking it's the bootloader, even the kernel I've used. But I was able to use Heimdall to flash a stock kernel ( yes it does work for the SGS2 ) but nothing had changed.
Sorry for the imporopper spelling.
Charge phone with power off.
Ensure samsung kies is not running whilst using odin. Also check your pc task manager and kill anything to do with Kies.
Ensure the latest drivers are installed, try different usb ports, another pc with drivers installed
If you can manage to get the phone recognised by adb (and you know how to use it) you can flash kernel (including the cwm recovery). I saw a method posted by Hellcat somewhere. It might get your recovery going.

You said your not a noob, but are you vol up + home + power to enter recovery?

Yeah I'm only able to get into download-mode, recovery just does not happen at all.
I'm going to try a different machine now after installing the drivers, there is a VM tut on here I'm going to follow that uses VirtualBox, Heimdall on Ubuntu says it detects my phone so I'm going to try that way.
Charging the phone with the powerd off just gives me the empty battery picture with the loading circle in the middle but of course it just freezes and doesn't do anything.
Now trying the ADB/Odin on a clean machine with the latest drivers.
1) Get the right CF Kernel from the Chainfire kernel thread in the Android Original Development Thread. Extract the zip to get a TAR and extract the TAR to get a z-image file. Also download the corresponding original stock kernel from the Intratech thread in the same section.
2) Flash the TAR in PDA using Odin. Do not click repartition. This lets you boot with with functional Root and CWM.
3) If you want to get rid of the yellow triangle, then load the z-image file into /sdcard. Reboot into download mode and use Odin to flash the stock kernel (again in the PDA without repartition). After that, go to the CWM app, choose flash kernel and locate the zimage and proceed.
FYI: SiyahKernels good, but with CM7 if you are updating between nightlys, reflash the old nightly first to get rid of siyahkernel, update the nightly and then reflash Siyah Kernel again. Long way but theres no workabout.
Also kill kies processes while using Odin
hi
Hey Frequency,
were you able to resolve this?
I faced the same issue. But my problem was the battery got drained(i think)

[Q] YP-G70 2.2.2 stuck in boot loop

Hello there,
I was trying to flash Rj's Custom Kernel to my Glaaxy Player 5 which I had just rooted using SuperOneClick.
I went into download mode (Power+Volume-down+Back button) on my phone, opened up Odin and selected the tar file I downloaded as a PDA, Only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time were checked, nothing else was changed.
Clicked Start and the process appeared to go Successfully in Odin, when the phone was reset the Samsung Logo appeared for longer than usual, and my computer (which was still connected via USB) complained that the USB device was not recognised, then eventually the phone rebooted to the Samsung Logo and the process repeats itself ad infinitum.
The only thing I can do is get the phone back into Download Mode, and flash another rom, but I don't know what to try, can anyone please help me get my phone back to working order?
Cheers,
Blaiz0r.

Does your player have a mechanical home button because if it has a home button that is a light capacative and also if its capacitive you need entropeys kernel search on google

[Q] Bricked Android need assistance

I rooted my phone successfully, tweaked a couple roms successfully as well. The last rom I tweaked was I think something to do with init.d. After I tweaked the rom, I restarted my phone and bam... that $H1T stood stuck at the boot animation loop a.k.a BRICKED.
I downloaded odin and some tars, but before that I deleted partition erased in recovery mode holding up and power button. I went to download mode using down and power button. I failed 9 times using odin, and then eventually I got the box screen to display "PASS" with a green color. I restarted the phone and it had a different model lol. However my phone still did not get back to the way its suppose to start up. I tried using new files for ODIN, and everything seemed about right until it said: Wait about 2 minutes, it was the last step I think and I was actually waiting 15 minutes, so I got anxious and unplugged it and restarted my phone and it shows a different model instead of SPH-D710 it shows GT-19100 and goes straight into recovery mode.
All I can do is scroll up and down using volume buttons but I cant hit the (ok button) which is the (power button) to attempt the action I want. I have a boost mobile samsung galaxy S2. Also Odin, Kies and my Computer does not recognize my phone anymore through usb. I tried usb samsung drivers update, and I even tried a bunch of different versions of ODIN including a different computer. My downloads folder is literally packed with a whole bunch of tool aid kits for my phone lol. OH and by the way before I used odin I did end the process of Kies in the task manager so yup. I do not know what else to do, I tried different computers I think I am pretty much PHUCKED over now. Unless someone has another solution.
I do not understand why I cant enter nothing in recovery mode all of sudden, I can only move up or down. I can only go into either recovery mode or download mode. In recovery mode it says:
Deleting Cryption Meta Data
-- Copying media files...
Successfully copied meida files.
# MANUAL MODE #
-- Updating application...
Successfully updated application.
-- Appling Multi-CSC...
Successfully applied multi-CSC.
If it shows I9100 on the boot screen instead of SPH-D710 you've obviously used firmware for the I9100 on your device, and there's a fair possibility you'll be making a trip to a service centre.
Find stock SPH-D710 firmware, flash that with Odin. Where ? No idea, like most people here know almost nothing about this model; try the usual haunts - Samfirmware, AndroidFirmwares.Net, Samsung-updates.com, Google search),.

[Q] Galaxy s2 not booting after root...want to restore to original settings

I am new to rooting, today i tried my first root through Odin on my galaxy s2 I9100. I believe I downloaded the correct kernel after I checked it under 'about' on my phone etc, and I downloaded and installed the samsung drivers, as well as kies, however when I connected my phone to Odin after entering download mode, the 'ID:COM' was not yellow as it should be - (without knowing this was wrong) i continued with the root anyway and it eventually finished on 'reset'. Without really knowing what to do I disconnected my phone and tried resetting it, after which Odin displayed 'pass' however now when I try to reboot my phone it just displays the yellow triangle with the exclamation mark and will not boot at all. I can still enter download mode but simply cannot boot my phone.
If anyone knows where I have gone wrong and what I need to do to root my phone properly that would be of great help, if not please could someone suggest how I can completely restore the phone back to its previous settings (as it is not my phone!!!) I am not fussed about the root count or if it still displays the yellow triangle, i just want it to fully boot or even better be rooted.
What kernel did you use?
Do not worry. I have encounter same problem. what I have done is download original update from sammobile and by using odin 1.85 i have install it. so try it.

s5 SM-G900F rooting need help!

i attempted to try and root my phone so i went through the steps of downloading the CF auto root and using Odin with it. i loaded odin and added the .tar file to odin. booted my phone into download mode. what i found strange is the agreement screen is all is by the looks of it Chinese, i looked at it funny and carried on. i clicked start on odin and it went through the downloading. but when it got to rebooting i got stuck in the boot up screen with the text
RECOVERY BOOTING.....
RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING
Set warranty Bit: Recovery
and it just stays in this screen
from here on i am clueless of what to do
Sounds like you might have used the wrong version of CF Auto Root. You'll need to restore your device with the original firmware. If you are not sure what this is, you should be able to pull the battery then boot directly into recovery by powering on with Vol Up + Home + Power. The build should be labeled there. Then you should be able to find that here on XDA in the forum for your phone (check in General and in Development forums). If not there, then most likely sammobile.com will have it, but be warned, the downloads there are pretty slow. Once you grab the firmware, you might need to unzip it till you have the .tar or .tar.md5 file and put that into Odin in the AP slot and while your phone is plugged in in Download Mode, hit Start and it will restore your phone.
