When i unlock bootloader im losing drm content! can i watch youtube(youtube app), download from market, go to internet, view photos/videos in gallery, play music, use widgets after unlocinkg bootloader ?
Lost too
Hey, I have to admit I'm totally lost with this too. Did you ever get any results on what DRM actually does?
I understand its a copyright tool, but before I root I would like to know how lossing it will affect my phone. What apps (if any) won't work? Will I still be able to use the media player?
Thanks in advance
don't know many apps that use DRM, in fact i only know TrackID , anyway, with the test point method you don't loose DRM, just warranty, did it in my sk17i and it was working (trackid) just fine (now i'm on CM7 so i don't have it anymore) although i read someone complaining about loosing DRM with this method, so, can't say it's 100% safe and can't say how it would affect phone or apps performance since it worked for me. Hope it works for you too.

Do to recent events, and after many hours of searching without any useful result, I decided to try making a simple app which instantly deletes/wipes all the data (without any prompt or warning) on your phone (e.g. if your phone gets stolen or you get mugged and you had much sensitive data on it.), formats everything or even messes up the whole device (so the thief can't use it anymore).
But my question is, is something like this even possible?
1. Is it possible to initiate formatiing/wiping with the Android SDK or something else?
2. Is it possible to make an app which can't simply be deleted or still remains after flashing the device?
3.Is it possible to remotely "push" the app on your phone and execute it? (I'm thinking about installing it via the Google Play website and setting the trigger (?) for starting the app on every possible event to instantly delete everything??
4. I guess this needs at least Superuser-rights..?
5. Maybe "we" could start with just automatic and instant ext.-SD card fortmatting?
Another idea is to have two apps:
one which is installed and allowed by the superuser-thingy to execute the wipe
and another one which you can remotely download or "push" via web and doesn't need Superuser-rights, whichs triggers the first app to start wiping so the thief can't deny the superuser promt..
I think this would really help and would've helped me a lot because there are only a few apps like this but afaik they all need a SMS to be triggered but what if the thief takes out/swaps the SIM card?
In my opinion android would seriously need an app like this.
If ur device mfg is samsung Plz read about samsungdive ...i can remote lock .remote wipe .remote location of ur device ...... Search in google or xda samsungdive.com
Check ur setting >location and security .. Hare u find remote control

yea I know samsungdive but as far as I know it doesn't remain after flashing and I think you can't install if you have a custom rom.
A answer to one of those questions would be really cool (secret bump)
It is probably too early to be known, but I was wondering if anybody heard any information about whether the Z2 Tablet will be (fairly simply) rooted? I purchased a number of apps from the Play Store which require root (backup, file manager, time sync, etc) and would love to be able to use them when / if I switch from my Nexus 7.
Has anybody who had the previous generation of xperia tablet rooted theirs? Is the Z2 expected to be similar?
Thanks!
Jeremie
edit: apologies for the title dyslexic miss-spelling... not enough sleep last night
At first, and only if you bought your device sim unlocked from factory, you will have to unlock the bootloader using Sony service here: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com
Then you will be able to root using fastboot, but this way you loose Bravia Engine, X-reality, and DRM keys for Sony's music services, not a big problem.
We will have to wait, and nobody knows how much, to have a working software exploit to root this devices without bootloader unlocking, hence keeping BE, X-Reality, DRM, etc.
Hi,
I am a android (nexus 5) user. I dont have much idea of how that works. But, given that it uses linux kernel, i thought its safe from antivirus(AV).
Now, my banking app has a tag up with a antivirus(barclays and kaspersky). The AV makes my wi-fi drop frequently.
Though my banking app suggest I should use the AV, do I really need that, given the fact that, I only install apps from play store (but I do surf internet a lot, see pics and pdf from net)
I am confused.
Some advice is needed

antivirus is not necessary but good to use as a internet user you should use it which protect you from unauthorise access and viruses
Hi everyone! This is my first post, but I have used the search tool already without success. I am just a user, not developer and quite noob regarding mobiles and security.
Situation
1. I've got hacked, total control (photos, emails, camera, contacts, whatsapp, screen etc) of my unrooted android phone (xiaomi redmi note 7).
It was a targetted attack, no manual app installed, no unsafe 3rd party apps allowed. Attackers only had my gmail account (linked to android) and telephone number. I know them personally, and they leaked personal information to people at work (who enjoy it between them but won't help me at all).
No high consumption of battery/data. Just leeching information, launching some apps eventually, and few interactions with the screen minimizing etc.
2. I Installed antimalware (e.g malwarebytes), antivirus (avg, esset etc). No positive results. I also installed "Noroot firewall" to control programs accessing internet, nothing strange.
3. I've changed emails(new), SIM + Telephone. Got hacked again. I suspect my own wifi was compromised.
Additionally, added 2 step verification to emails, changed passwords, encrypted the device etc. I have found no IP from them in the emails log, nor alert from gmail. Only once a session from Linux device (not mine). I believe they have accessed through the device.
4. I want to restore the device somehow and avoid getting hacked again.
One of the problems I face is taht that now I'm not in the same circle of people from which I gathered most of the info on the leaked information, so I can't get to know if the actions I am taking got rid of the hack, besides some punctual actions they may do (launch app etc). So I have to act quite paranoid and do the most secure action.
Question
1. Any idea on how they managed to do that? how can I prevent it or prove it? a reset would get rid of any proof, but I kinda prefer it if it is once and for all.
2. A hard reset only formats one partition (user data), so if there is a trojan located in /system it would be pointless. With an unrooted device I can only get rid of /cache and /data.
Should I install another ROM?(my phone has always been unrooted) which one? (restoring the stack ROM would probably be pointless if the vulnerability is due to android...
3. Is there any other measure I could take?
I'd appreciate any help.
Thank you!
In short : X10, UK, Android 13 - thanks, no thanks!
0 actual improvements as per discussed to some degree on Nokia "support forum".
Silly bloatware "features" added, but nothing what would be useful.
Have tried 50 apps of different kinds, enabling permissions (+ "developer mode"), yet still haven't found any that would record other person's voice, even thus is being transmitted via speaker or loudspeaker (heard).
Turns out down to legality issue, where's google has decided to undertake... 4'th party "responsibility, (3'rd would be Nokia), (1'st would be myself) and 2'nd party in it is the person who is to be it warned or not being recorded. Utter nonsense!
Looks like I cannot even downgrade back to neither Android 12 or 11 and custom ROM is the only option without any guarantees it'll work...
Deal breaker, and if I'll fail to find a fix or "jail-break this "feature"" will mean me binning my X10 for the older phone WITHOUT restrictions for recording, as google got scared of legality in CONTROLLING features and abilities of what it deemed as "their business" in EU and UK.
Turns out the back-up I've created is locked too- can not access it to upload for someone to have a play on virtual machine.
Deleted disabled most of google "feature" apps- still absolute the same my phone, but NOT mine, as OS is so great, it takes care of everything, including any chance to change permisions or the way it is set up.
Disappointed is understatement.
If anyone has ANY ideas how to fix this problem- I'd love to hear or if anyone would find a working bootloader for me to upload back up files- I'd love ANY suggestions,
Thanks!

I'm pretty sure there's a Magisk module that helps you with that problem. Requires you to unlock your phone's bootloader, though, which requires you to wipe your data on the phone.
Right (wrong so far)
