[Q] Permanent White Screen at Startup - help! - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I've done a full search, but cannot find another thread on this - if I'm wrong then please accept my apologies!
Anyway - when I start my HD2 I get nothing - just a blank white screen. It's running stock WinMo 6.5, and nothing else.
My 1st thought - screen is borked. But no - hard reset and FlashRom screens are both fine. Tried a soft-reset, no joy. In desperation I tried a hard reset; the screen says complete - but computer says 'no'. Still the white screen of death!
To add insult to injury my micro USB port has stopped working and I have to use an external battery charger so there's no chance of being able to load a new ROM or anything.
Can anyone suggest anything?
Thanks!

Well, apart from the SD card flashing method.....

Ah, didn't know about that method - how'd I miss it?!
Right - time to do some more forum searching...
I will report back!

Huge issue ...

Guys,
I have been trying to find solution on forum, but it seems it will not be so easy ... My MDA1 shows only Wilkommen bei TMobile and soft version G32S54, R3.23.00, 3.16.45 and that is all It does not response on power or anything - it simply shows me Wilkommen or not (if power is unplugged and battery empty). You may see how it looks here: http://www.jester.it.pl/mda/MDA1.jpg I have only USB cable - so if there is any chance to solve this problem having only this cable - please show me the way.
What is the most important - my Active Sync does not see connection ((
Help ...
TIA

I think your ROM is corrupt. Try reflashing.
Instructions can be found here:

Stefan
Hi there,
Thanks for your help - right now I need to find appriopiate ROM Image and it should work...
BR,
B
It seems that I do not have ROM file ;((( and one I found does not work....
Any suggestions?
I will try to cook sth. and let you know
a problem I had
When I first tried to image my device, the usb flash mode using XDA tools didn't work. I think this was because I was using windows vista. Anyway this forced me to use the direct sd flash method, and thus I didn't get the instructions to cold reset my device after the flash, which does seem to make a difference. Have you tried that?
<edit>What do you mean it does not work? What happened exactly when you tried?</edit>
OK - first time did not work, because Hard reset did not worked My mistake ... after reset it seems fine - I made some cooking and I have nice ROM right now but... After another reset and after second upload Boot appears and Wallaby starts making tests. After last test made Diagnostics screen appears and to be honest I do not know what to do Hard reset just shuts down MDA and I cannot switch it on - I can start from the same begining - tests etc. I know I am really close to solve that ... and we will see.
Guys, thanks for your help

Blank bootloader...am I screwed?

I have searched and searched these forums and have seen several other people with this problem but no solution. I have also looked through the wiki to no avail, so if someone can give me an answer I would really appreciate it.
I have been able to get into the bootloader screen (the r-g-b white stripes) however there is NO text (no serial, no usb) on the screen and it is not recognized by any pc. Can't get any response from mtty.exe because it can't see the USB port. Have tried on multiple PC's...
Is there another way to resurrect this athena or is it DOA?
Thanks,
-Alex-

Yes...no joy.
Just stays on the tri-color screen with no indication that it is reading the card.
Thanks for the advice though!
Did you try resetting - camera button and reset button on the back (I think...) pressed together.
Forum search will tell you exactly...

Yes, tried the hard reset (camera + reset) the alternate reset (comm + camera + reset) and even the other reset (volume slider + camera + reset). And yes, I was pushing down firmly on the camera button.
Each reset brings me to the tri-color bootloader screen with NO text. No model number, no OS version, no "USB" / "Serial"....just the red-gree-blue-white stripes.
I have looked extensively at all the forums, used the google search for the site and combed the wiki with no luck.
So do you think it is a lost case?

Hello,
sorry for what's happening to you. Can you tell what led to this situation ? Were you trying to unlock your phone or just flashing a new rom ?

I was trying to load a new ROM but I assumed that I had to use the OliPro unlock first.
Got to the radio flash and that is where it crapped out.
Now that I have read a little more carefully it looks like I don't need to use the OliPro beyond the first step for the stateside unlocked 7501.
Thanks,
-Alex-
when your on bootloader ? does windows detect a usb generic device ?
Nope. Tried 3 different PCs. Shut down all the activesync processes. No luck. No detection that anything is cabled to the advantage.
I am thinking that it is warranty time.
Damn, I hate this....its just the principle of the thing...

Key rule to remember is to always make sure the Advantage is Fully charged. Try charinging it and reflashing it with the factory rom, located here. http://www.america.htc.com/download/RUU_Athena_HTC_US_2.19.453.4_105_1.47.51.00_Ship.exe. Keep us posted and let us know how it went
have you removed the sim and memory card
just checking basics
try that with a full charge and then enter bootloader and connect to usb
Thanks for all the help! I gave up and warrantied a new unit where I WAS successful in loading a new ROM.
I have learned several valuable lessons in the ROM upgrade process. This was on an advantage 7501, unlocked, USA version. I did the upgrade the process with the OliPro 3.0 unlocker, the PK Rom 3.0 and vista pro (32bit):
- Make sure that you have NOT customized your athena/advantage beyond the basic calibration and cut/paste walkthrough.
-Download ONLY THE MOST RECENT VERSION OF THE OLIPRO UNLOCKER. CHECK TWICE TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE THE LATEST.
-You MUST let step one of the Unlock complete. With the latest version this will make a bricked Advantage practically impossible.
-Go through step 2 & 3 even if you don't think you need this. It will upgrade the radio and give you peace of mind if you are updating to the PK rom.
-Don't panic if you complete step 1 and goof step 2/3. You can recover. But if you screw up the initial SPL unlock in step1...it is not going to be pretty.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for everyones advice!

[Q] Hd2 freezes at startup, what to do?

Yesterday i put my hd2 in my pocket without locking the screen. when i heard it surfing around the menues i took it back up and tried to take it back to homescreen. As many times before the phone refused to respond so i took out the battery. But when powering it back on the **** wont pass the htc startup-screen!
I have read around this forum quite alot now and i have done hard reset a million times, i have installed an original updated rom from htc`s site. When this didn`t work i installed hspl3, Artemis v270 NOR and RADIO_2.07.51.22_2. And it still wont start!
Im getting quite sick of experimenting, so i`d be really happy if any of you smartguys could help me

Flash a radio that does not have ".51" in the name. Flash a radio that has ".50" instead. ***Make sure the ".50" radio is 2.06+ (don't flash anything below 2.06.50.xx).
Okay, thanks for your reply But i still cant make it work, are you sure its the radio causing this problem? I`ve now tried RADIO_2.10.50.28_2 (this is the only one with "50" in it among the recomended radios in the artemis thread...) , RADIO_2.12.50.02_2 and the mentioned above RADIO_2.07.51.22_2.7z.
Should i just keep going?
One more thing. When 2.12 and 2.10 was installed, the phone restarted by its self after about 30-60 sec on htc bootscreen. if that means anything?

It's usually the radio that's the problem -- if your phone gets stuck on the bootscreen.
I'm not sure what else might be the problem.
Just in case, try this: Task 29, flash a .50 radio, flash a stock ROM (via USB), hard-reset.
If that fails, I don't know what else to say...
i tried the task 29 witout luck A couple more weird things though.. when i try to install a rom from the memory card, the bootloader doesn`t start the installation. I just says "serial". And Yes its formated with fat32 and im sure im doing it right. The other thing is that the phone starts by itself about 60sec after plugging in the charger.. i`m guessing this have to be a hardware problem. might be the usb connector as many seem to have problems with.
I`ve now put in a stock spl and will send it back for repair tomorrow.
Dammit, hspl i still there. Is the only way to remvoe it by using the sd-card? then i might be fu..ed regarding the warranty :S

I think so. Someone with more experience might be able to provide a more confident answer.
Are you sure you're renaming the ROM as "LEOIMG.nbh" (no quotes) and putting it in the root of the SD-card?

Hello dude!
Try using a microSD smaller than 8gb and formated with FAT32 (it's a known fact that 16gb microSD does not work for flashing.....).
If you want to remove the HSPL there is 2 ways:
1 - Flash a stockROM via SDcard, like you are trying to do.
OR
2 - Use the HSPL2 program to revert to the original SPL state.
If you could enter the bootloader, probably your phone does not need any special repairs.. Anyway.......
Try using a smaller SDcard to flash the radio and the ROM again. You could also try flashing via USB/PC.....
Do not forget to redownload the ROM, it could be a "bad download".
For more info take a look here:

maybe a fix

hello guys,
someone at htcedia posted this fixes:
1) Install you HSPL.
2) Install your cooked rom.
3) Upgrade your radio. (Leo_RADIO_2.10.50.26)
4) Do Hard reset. (Hold Vol up and down also end call button) then press (Red reset button under back cover next to battery)
Fixes Freezing on HTC bootup screen.
and for me, when i remove the micro sd card the phone bootup but when the micro sd card is in the phone it wont.
so try to remove the micro sd card then reset a hard or soft reset ur device, keep ur micro sd out until ur r completely loaded, then put ur sd card back in the phone.

[Q] Hangs on htc screen, have _not_ messed with ROM

Hi!
I have not messed with any ROM upgrades or anything since I got my phone half a year ago and it has worked fine all the way. But after restarting it today, it suddenly hangs in the "htc quietly brilliant" screen! All I can find on net about such problems start with: "After I flashed with ROM XXX...".
I know I could try a ROM flash, of course, but then I would loose all settings and stuff on the phone. And still be left with the feeling that it could pass out again at any time.
Is there any hope to get it resurrected? Has anyone else experienced this without having messed with ROM?
I have tried:
- checking the battery pins, they seem OK.
- loaded until the lamp was green.
- starting without the sim.
- soft reset.
Thanks for any hints!

Maybe not, since you removed the sd card and it didn't work, have you installed a cab (to internal memory) recently ? If yes then maybe it is the problem

I would imagine LCD failure, though I can't be quite sure. Could you include a picture of it?

The same problem with my GSM Evo 3d:/
What ROM, Radio, kernel are you using? LeeDroid V5.3 and LeeDroid V4.2.1-1.94GHz-KERNEL, radio - 10.59.9020.00_10.15.9020.06 in my case
http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/543/img20120225140835.jpg
I noticed that when I removed battery and tried to boot, in the beginning screen was black and then was LeeDroid's boot-sound and when phone is supposed to ask for my PIN code the rainbow-pixel screen appears.
Could anyone make step by step instruction how to reflash ROM? I cannot see anything so I need all information (like push vol down two times). I hope it might works

really... LCD Failure... how would i fix that... here are some pics. I am running this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1456793 on version 1.3.
so i will post pics, and do you think rogers would be able to fix this problem or would it cost a hell of alot of money?
I'm not convinced that it's LCD failure. LCD is working (in a strange way) and in my case touch is working as well. In my opinion it might be motherboard (or anything that controls LCD). I'm going to try changing radio, rom and kernel - maybe it will work. But I really need your help with the step by step guide I mentioned in my previous post.
ok, so what are you going to try and do, are you going to try and reflash a rom?
like i can try and give you instructions, but i need to know what you want to do.
EDIT: I have downloaded and tried to run the RUU for My rogers htc evo. it is installing the rom, stock radio, and what not. so when it is done i will update and post back if that worked or not.
UPDATE: Installing the new RUU did not work, the screen is still messed up im guessing its a hardware failure. im going to try to bring it into rogers and see if they will do anything to help me out.
Something new, now my screen is completely black (but i can hear that touchscreen and touch buttons are working).

My screen is once more pixelful
I don't want to start new topic so I'll ask here:
Could anyone please help me with going back to stock rom?
My LCD is still not functional so it'll be unusual guide.
1. I open cmd and run adb reboot bootloader command (with stock rom in PG86IMG.zip file)
2. Does phone starts in fastboot or bootloader? If fatboot I need to press power button right?
3. Now phone should check for PG86IMG.zip file, what should I press to accept flash?
4. Now few minutes for flash
5. And what button should I press to reboot?
Is there any easier way to flash stock rom without working LCD? with adb commands maybe? please help me guys

Your in diagnostic mode. Hold down the power button for 45 seconds then press the camera button twice it should reset the phone.
Diagnostic Mode, never herd about it. I tried both with phone on and off, no luck :/. Anyone has idea what it might be? (I'll post picture once more http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/543/img20120225140835.jpg)
PS
I managed to reinstall my shipped ROM, but screen is still f*cked up ;(.
Guys I have a problem. Is there any way to switch on USB debugging without working screen? I need to s-on my phone and I cannot use adb without USB debugging. My touch screen and touch buttons are working though so maybe someone could make screenshots how to switch it on? I'm on stock ROM now.
Or maybe there is other method to use step 5 of this tutorial without USB Debugging?
And one more question, If my phone doesn't connect with computer in bootloader/fastboot, does it means that I have s-on?
