Is that necessary to wipe dalvik cache while flashing kernel???
Sent from my LG-P500 using Tapatalk
no. well at least i dont. when i flash a kernel, i dont wipe anything (and i dont encounter any problems)
kernel has nothing todo with rom, so dont wipe needed, even wipe cache isnt needed.
only, if the kernel image have some apps included (maybe you install a small update instead a complete rom), than you have better to wipe cache and dalvik cache.
Actually I read somewhere that we need to wipe... so thanks for Andy n swtnsour..

I installed the lite'ning Rom. Everything works fine, now I saw in an other forum that i have to wipe my dalvik cache and my partition cache after flashing the device. I saw that two days after I flashed it, and wiped those caches. Was that a mistake?
I hope you will help me with this noob question
Anil.
you have to wipe before flashing the ROM so you can make a fresh (bug free hopeffuly) start .Enter CWM - wipe(i wipe all) - than flash the new ROM (.zip)
Don't worry they rebuild themselves .

You need to wipe data. Wiping the system doesn't get rid of the data partition.
Try using super wipe?
wipe
yes you need to do a full wipe and use a super wipe tool and then flash rom
hey guys i wanted to know if i had to wipe everything when there is an update for a rom? or just wipe cache and dalvik?
thanks
It's a case-by-case thing. Sometimes you only need to wipe caches, but others you'll need to do a full wipe. Usually a ROM developer will note what you have to wipe when they post the update, so make sure to check.
You could always just do a nandroid and then try flashing after a cache wipe. If that doesn't work, you can either restore or do a full wipe and reflash the update.

I always factory reset. Wipe cache, then dalvik. Twice in that order. But you can get away with just wiping cache and dalvik. As most will tell you

Note that the MeanROM installation will wipe cache and dalvik cache for you, so no manual wiping is necessary actually.

No you dont have to wipe data/factory reset. you should wipe cache and dalvik cache though.
And what do you mean what should you do next?
You could use first a kernel cleaning script, take a look in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363738.
I have just flash the kernel after cleaning cache and Dalvik.
Thanks to you all that what i want to know

i know you are supposed to wipe the phone and clear the cache but what is the preferred order here.
reboot to recovery, wipe data, clear dalvik?
i appreciate the info
It doesn't really matter what order you wipe in. I always wipe system, cache and dalvik.

Thanks for the info
Wipe Data/Factory reset is all i do ...never had a problem. I think the Dalvik gets rebuilt after a factory reset so no need to clear it
and if I'm just updating from XXX.rom v3 to v4 I just install right over the top and don't wipe at all
