Dalvik Cache and partition cache - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed the lite'ning Rom. Everything works fine, now I saw in an other forum that i have to wipe my dalvik cache and my partition cache after flashing the device. I saw that two days after I flashed it, and wiped those caches. Was that a mistake?
I hope you will help me with this noob question
Anil.

you have to wipe before flashing the ROM so you can make a fresh (bug free hopeffuly) start .Enter CWM - wipe(i wipe all) - than flash the new ROM (.zip)

Don't worry they rebuild themselves .

Steps for wiping (data/cache)

Im about to flash bionix-v 1.3.1. And im trying to be as thorough as i can without odining back to stock. Just wanted to double check what im doing is right.
I already backed everything up and disabled voodoo (just for safety). Then, i wiped dalvik cache. Next, do i wipe data/factory reset? Then after that, wipe cache partition? Then after that, flash new rom?
Vibrant, Bionix-v 1.3, Voodoo...
It's in the noob guide..
summary:
factory wipe
wipe data
wipe dalvik (advanced)
flash rom
wipe data
wipe dalvik
reboot
wait 10 minutes, reboot
sign into market, wait 5-10, reboot
restore apps, boom.
Mine is similar to above.
Recovery
Factory wipe
Flash rom
Wipe dalvic
Wipe cache
Fix permissions
Reboot
Wait 10-15
Reboot
Enjoy
This process greatly reduced bugs when flashing rom to rom

Kernel

Is that necessary to wipe dalvik cache while flashing kernel???
Sent from my LG-P500 using Tapatalk
no. well at least i dont. when i flash a kernel, i dont wipe anything (and i dont encounter any problems)
kernel has nothing todo with rom, so dont wipe needed, even wipe cache isnt needed.
only, if the kernel image have some apps included (maybe you install a small update instead a complete rom), than you have better to wipe cache and dalvik cache.
Actually I read somewhere that we need to wipe... so thanks for Andy n swtnsour..

Wipe Battery stats.
But no need for dalvik cache.

Im currently using ver1.0 Pro but cannot seem to download any other versions after that.
I tried even Infinitum Project, i cant seem to get it pass the start screen.(meaning before the boot animation). Similar when flashing RR ver1.1 onwards
I think i cannot go anywhere after android 4.0.4. I am only able to flash back to v1.0 (Android 4.0.3).

Infinatium project,
Full wipe
installed rom
installed gapps

In the roms in wich I got troubles with the start screen or rebooting its because the baseband (LPQ in my case) and I'm serching foward about these thing...

Apart from asking the dev i suggest a full wipe and clean flash may cure the usual Kernel Panic .

If you just relax for a minute , take a deep breath and start from the beginning. Listen to what people are telling you. Follow step by step from the beginning. Read what the developer says on flashing the rom and then it will work. Almost impossible not to get the rom working after that. It will all come together mate. Read a lot of posts. Good luck.

[Q] Confirming before updating

Hello. So i am on the Omega ROM v5.1 and wanted to confirm in regards to updating the same ROM or flashing a new ROM. After researching the site, I was able to get the information that:
1. Updating same ROM: All that is needed before installing via recovery is a cache wipe and a dalvik cache wipe right? For example updating to Omega v5.1 to v5.2.
2. Flashing different / new rom: You need to wipe cache and dalvik cache AND do a factory reset / data wipe.
Please let me know if I am correct in both 1. and 2. situations. Thank in advance for all your input!!
yes you are right that is what iv always done unless del recommends a full wipe . updating on omega you should be ok just wiping dalvik cache and battery stats iv always done it like that unless changing roms then wipdata factory reset is used as well good luck

[Q] Omega ROM flashes inquiry

Hi,
I was using stock firmware up until yesterday I flashed to v5.2 successfully. Everything is working fine. But I just have a question, I remember that after the flash, and the phone rebooted and I connected to my wifi...the phone automatically started to download and install all the 4 apps that i had personnally installed on the stock firmware all by itself ..
I'm asking because I see that there a v6.0 available and would like to flash that. But before I flash, do I need to do the following wipes?
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik Cache
If so, do I need to do this for between EVERY Omega flashes to ensure it goes smoothly? Thanks

You should only have to wipe cache and dalvik then flash the ROM. You'll be fine, I also always format cache and system in the mount and storage part of Cwm recovery BEFORE flashing the ROM, never had an issue.

No, full wipe is when you delete all user data as well.

Ok I found the definitions of what a full wipe and no wipe is:
Full Wipe Install means:
- Wipe Data / Factory Reset
- Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
- Format System partition
- Install
No Wipe Install means:
- Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
- Install
Just a question, in the FULL WIPE listed above, where would I find "Format System Partition?" I don't recall seeing that..which category do I enter to do it?
CWM recovery mounts and storage format system .

Thanks, is there any harm if I do a full wipe EverytimeI upgrade an Omega ROM? I just want to stick to one way of things to minimize any issues.
