Hi all....
Yes, there are loads of threads on this, but it appears my own specific problem isn't mentioned anywhere and I'm hoping someone can help.
The normal 'update.zip' way or rooting (official) 2.3.3 just doesn't work on my Ace - I get the following error:
Applying Multi-CSC
Can't access to '/system/csc/h3g/system'
Installation aborted
I think it may be something to do with the three mobile firmware, but can't be sure - is there any way of rooting this so I can use Titanium Backup?
TIA

Yes, it is, and have also tried renaming it as suggested a couple of other places - very frustrating!
You're on stock recovery ? If yes , flash CWM and try again .

Hi,
Im on 3 and I rooted sucessfully (and unrooted) if you look on the android foums website in the galaxy ace section - look for a post uk gingerbread 3 network out today then read through there u should find out how.
It wont let me post a link on here!
Note the comment about the error.
Worked for me

The last time I tried CWM on my last Ace it totally bricked it! Not compatible, so reluctant to go down that road again unless I know for sure it won't brick it. I was lucky enough to get the bricked one swapped out as faulty as it was less than a week old.....
EDIT: Actually, it was ROM Manager that bricked the phone, but I'm wary of anything with the 'ClockWorkMod' name attached to it!

I'll go find the thread, thanks.....
EDIT: Found it, but although my own errors as described in my 1st post, it definitely isn't rooted after it.... no root privileges for Titanium or anything else when trying to run them.....
Does anyone know if there's a compatible CWM for the Ace? I mean one that doesn't brick it when you select 'Backup' from the CWM menu!!

No joy - I did get CWM installed, and did a backup but still can't root the stupid thing. CWM gives less info on the problem than Samsung recovery....

I think I'll just have to give up as it appears no one else has this problem so it's not likely to be solved.... at least it never got bricked this time...
I actually downloaded the update.zip again and tried..... different error in CWM, but much more info this time......
I think your only way to root is to flash a custom ROM .

Ta - what custom ROM's are available, is there a list anywhere? Is there anything actually better than 2.3.3?
I guess since I can't use TB I'd need to reinstall all my apps again if I flashed a custom ROM!! *Groan*
you can try cf-root by ketut.kumajaya
Tried VillanROM (three times) but no keyboard - seems like a common problem with it. Don't think I fancy the cf-root. Too many files available at the bottom of the post and don't know which one to use, plus many pages of problems with it, so I think I'll pass.....
I too own an SGA (2.3.3) on 3 and rooted it using this zip:
http://db.tt/6YsR3WVM
I selected "install zip from sdcard" instead of "install update from sdcard".
Worked first time for me. Hope that helps =)

Tis' OK - I put 2.3.4 on it, then CodeROM v2, so it's now rooted anyway.... at last!!
Thanks to all.

Seriously, the whole rooting proccess on 7500 takes about 30 seconds. You need to do exactly what's outlined in this thread.

1. Download this Root.zip file to your tablet and move it to root directory of tablet storage. (you can also download on comp. then transfer to tablet)
2. Reboot tab and go into recovery mode and apply the root.zip you just downloaded.
3. Then reboot
rooted already
For CWM
1. After rooting download and install Rom Manager from market.
2. open Rom Manager app and have it install clockwork Mod to your device, you should see your device listed within Rom manager.
3. Done.

It doesn't wipe any data, it simply installs root. If you need CWM you need to do the "For CWM" steps.

Root on 7500
Hi! I want to be sure of something before doing it...
I want to become root on my 7500 I can't afford to lose any thing on it (apps, data, settings...) because it's not my tab.
So by downloading the RETAIL 3G [GTP7500] root.zip, and going into recovery mode to install the zip, will I lose something or not? Someone said in this post that no data is wiped, but in there:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171089
They say that install a rom in going to wipe all the apps... and I feel like it's what we do here since we are in the recovery mode.
Anyway, thanks for any precisions.

This has been answered several times in this thread.
Installing a custom recovery and installing Superuser does not cause you to lose data. You'll end up with a rooted, but still stock, tablet. All of your data will still be there unless you do something else, like installing a custom ROM.
Download cwm recovery.md5 from droidbasement
Do some odin, install superuser.

Hey there everybody,
I'm new on the forums and i just got my samsung i5500 a few days ago, it came with 2.2 froyo by default.
Considering i have loads of questions I'll try to be brief, I'm trying to get cyanogenmod on my phone but the tutorial i found there seemed to be quite lacking in detail considering this is my first time using android, so my questions are:
1. what exactly do i need to do/install on my phone before trying to get the cyanogenmod on there ? ( in the respective order please)
2. do i need to root my phone ?
3. when i tried to root my phone using universal androot 1.6.2 beta 5 i got an error "Failed ! No ~~~ Fu goo ~~~" why am i getting this error and how do i fix it ? (the log says access denied in several places)
4. do i need to install odin on my pc to install clockwork mod considering i don't have the clockwork mod ? if yes, where do i get odin from and do i need a specific odin for my galaxy 5 ?
5. do i need the rom manager ?
6. where do i get cyanogen mod files ?
7. how do i do a wipe data/factory reset ?
8. do i need to install 2.3.7 gingerbread before installing the mod ? if so, how ?
Please excuse my noobish questions but i'm completely new at this and terrified of damaging my phone, thanks for your time and attention.

1. Install 'clockworkmod recovery'
2. Yes
3. Did that for me, but pressing the root button again, before shutting app, worked
4. No, you can install clockworkmod through the app 'ROM Manager' found in the market, be sure to click our phone model though!
5. For installing clockworkmod, and if you get premium, downloading the latest version of cyanogen
6. Through premium app 'ROM Manager', or go to the rom manager website and find the files on there.
7. You have that option when you are booted into recovery mode (used for installing roms)
8. If I understood your question right, cyanogen rom is gingerbread 2.3.7 so installing that is all you have to do
I was exactly the same as you when I first did it, kept asking questions and was nervous, but if you follow the instructions, you can't go wrong

Do you have the latest version of it? Or,
have you tried any other apps? E.g 'z4root' or 'superoneclickroot'
4. When did you try it? Its only recently been added. And I would root first, just to make sure that's not stopping it
6. I havnt personally used it, but id ask that in the dedicated cyanogen port thread in development, they'll be able to help you more
7. Through rom manager, after you have installed the clockworkmod

1. what exactly do i need to do/install on my phone before trying to get the cyanogenmod on there ? ( in the respective order please) Root your phone using Universal Androot- might take a few tries- just keep trying, flash your phone with Clockwork Mod v4 via Odin (or Rom Manager), put the 3 latest CM7 files on your devices SD card, go into recovery mode on your device, then install the files in the specific order (Follow the simple instructions on the official I5500 CM7 thread located under the Development section of our phones forum)
2. do i need to root my phone ? Yes
3. when i tried to root my phone using universal androot 1.6.2 beta 5 i got an error "Failed ! No ~~~ Fu goo ~~~" why am i getting this error and how do i fix it ? (the log says access denied in several places) Just keep trying, it'll work eventually.

I used Odin to flash Clockworkmod on my phone but I think you can do it via Rom Manager now, not too sure but the ODIN method was pretty simple, plug your phone into computer, put your phone into download mode and follow the 'One Package' method and then start the process.
5. do i need the rom manager ? I didn't need Rom Manager when I flashed CM7 to my phone, but CM7 automatically puts RomManager on your device.
6. where do i get cyanogen mod files ? Check out the official CM7 I5500 thread.
7. how do i do a wipe data/factory reset ? Go into recovery mode and click wipe data.

If your phone is loaded with Froyo 2.2.2 you will have to downgrade to 2.2.1 as the exploit used by superoneclick ect to allow root access was fixed in the latest Froyo release. Just follow the threads for upgrading. Good luck!

Dude ..... you seem to be in real deep crap here....... PM me....... looks like u need some help.
Dont worry, once you get up-to-date on this stuff, you'll be quite confident bout it.
Trust me-we were all the same when we started out.
Hello, I'm currently trying to root my T-Mobile (UK) S2 using Odin. It is using ICS 4.0.3
My original kernel is XXBVLPB. I've downloaded the CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXX_LPB-v5.2-CWM5 insecure kernel which is the one I keep trying to use.
All goes well in Odin, and it says pass.
Unfortunately, when the phone reboots, it goes to the first splash screen with the yellow triangle and powers off.
Any attempt to switch it back on produces the same result.
Am I missing something blatantly obvious?
I'm a relative noob, so please go easy on me. I've searched the forums quite thoroughly beforehand but to no avail.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Fred.
Should not be doing that, get the official kernel and flash back using Odinand see If it boots.

If, so, how did you go about it and which software did you use?
I have done many searches and have not come up with a definitive answer.
Many thanks.

You realise that method explicitly says "Choose apply update from external storage.", right? In other words, you need a microSD card. If you get past that part (stock recovery) and are indeed in CWM recovery, make sure you're using the correct "install zip from x".
I'm not familiar with your particular ROM, but someone mentioned a random Italian ROM had a full /system partition, making rooting not entirely straight forward. This was my response to him: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25479898#post25479898

I'm not familiar with your particular ROM, but someone mentioned a random Italian ROM had a full /system partition, making rooting not entirely straight forward. This was my response to him: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25479898#post25479898

I was in CWM, it just won't see ANY zip folders that are on my SD card :S
I also tried CF Insecure method...This too did not work....Just booted to first splash screen with yellow triangle and powered off.
This build is a toughie it seems....Challenge remains
You seem to have ignored the most important part of the thread I linked, about /system being full (well, that and just flashing an unbranded ROM). Can you check how much free space is in /system? (easiest noob friendly way would be to install Titanium Backup which should function without root to display "System ROM" free space at the bottom of the main screen).

If CF-root is failing to boot, and the other method for rooting isn't showing you any zips on the SD card, make you're sure you've tried both "install zip from" options (yes, there are two, which I mentioned earlier) from the alternative option to root.
If you've exhausted all of those, other options are running adb logcat while booting CF-root to see what's crashing, flashing alternative, rooted ICS kernels, or flashing a different stock ROM.
DONE IT!!

My word....After a long and mainly fruitless couple of days, I've FINALLY ROOTED!!
This is the one that worked for me: http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s2-i9100-icsandroid-4-0/
So it appears that the insecure kernels I was using were not compatible, even though they were a letter for letter match!.
I'd like to offer many thanks to all those who helped me on here!! Also big thanks to the guys at GalaxyS2root.com
What would be the best place to post this link for all the T-Mobile UK users who might be interested in doing the same?
Link kernel is just a copy of Chainfires kernel from the CFRoot post .

I must add, that if you use this method, the kernel prevents you from accessing apps on the SD card....This has been fixed with THIS: http://download.chainfire.eu/152/[email protected] <span class=
SOLVED!
Done and dusted!
So i still cant get my phone rooted.
I have searches all over this forum and find many threads. I have tried many of them and nothing works. For normal people like me mutch of the words and explanations developers give are to complex to understand. I hardly know what a bootloader is, or a cmw file. And even a harder time finding out where and whitch files to download.
Is there not anybody out there who can give a step by step walktrough with links to what to download and how to use it for my kind of version.
I just want to root my darn phone to let Cyanogenmod take it over and make it happy again Any Mod suggestion would be great to.
Ps: i easly rooted and use Cyanogenmod 10 on my Galaxy Tab 2 so i'm not totally retarded
You rooted a galaxy but dont know what cmw is?
Anyway, all instructions are found in the sticky threads. More especially, read the second sticky thread in that section. All instructions ahve been given in exact detail there...
If you are usnsure what the words mean I suggest you read up on them as if you dont know what to do you can damage your phone.
As i said i'm kina a noob. And instead of just confusing me more why don't you or anybody else just try to link me to a guide that works.. As i said i have tried many of the guides in sticky treads and some links there are dead and others dont work.
I have updated to latest ICS and heard that i should be carefull so i dont brick my phon..as the reason i try to get help here. I found a easy guide for my tab where there was a walktrough wit links to the software i needed to downmload and use. And that is what i need here too.
So instead of complaining about how unknowledge i am cant i just get some help instead???
If you would tell us what you tried and where you stuck, maybe someone could help you.
Sticky thread in general section have valid links, as far as I know.

Y dont u unlock bootloader or install CWM and get CM9 or CM10 installed instead of rooting and then flashing CM?
By the way CWM helps u to easily flash ROMS and take nandroid backups and restore them.
So i can Just unlock bootloader and use av rom without rotting at all? This would be great because i only wanted to root it to use rom's on it.
Feel like a kid with a new toy now. Gona run home and try it asap
Some ROM's(like CM,AOKP,AOSP...) require custom kernel.
Some ROM's(mostly, stock based) can work on locked bootloader.
Most(99%) of ROM's are already prerooted.
To install any custom rom, you need CWM, to get CWM you ether need to have root and after that install CWM, or you can flash custom kernel with (in 99% of them) already included CWM.
So for us mortals the problem is still on. Tried to open the bootloader with sony's own tool, but when i turn of my phone and connect usb to get to bootloader it does not findt any drivers.. Even though i downloaded it.
I just want C-mod 10 on my phone and that's it. So how do i flash the custom kernel when i ned cmw to even get it rooted? Sorry but i guess i'm a big noob at this.
Are you on XP?
if yes,
Try to install the drivers on Safe Mode and Plug your mobile while pressing Menu key.
It will install the drivers.
I'm on Windows 7. Acording to the tutorials i found when i plug my phone to usb there should come up a message that says "could not install drivers, and from there i can find them manually.. But no such message comes up and there is nothing in device manager either.
I'm totally lost here. Have tried to root my phone before so maby some old drivers are the reason for this?

So i finally got my phones bootloader unlocked. i used this link to get it done. http://xperiadev.wordpress.com/guidelines-xperia/unlock-bootloader/
So now is the question what next to get my cyanogenmod on my phone.. Am a little scared because i heard that the version i hvae can easily be bricked.
Any ideas.?
Just install custom rom using cwm and dont forget to backup first your current rom using cwm. Later if got any problem and u can just restore it back.

Hello all
I have searched all over but have not found any similar problems.
I rooted my phone and installed CWM and would like to install a custom rom that exists for Gingerbread 2.3.6 (I flashed back to stock OS), I have found the rom that I seem to like a lot (Atomic rom) however when I put the .zip file into my external sd and use rom manager to install the rom it turns off, then the phone boots back up... Any ideas about what is happening? Maybe I do not have everything rom manager needs?
I am definitely not ready to flash the new rom using odin, unless you put the .zip file into PDA section and hit "Start" when the phone is in download mode... from the forums I read it is not as easy as installing the stock OS
Thanks in advance!

you leave so many questions unanswered here. you have provided some information here, but not the vital info and the last part is very confusing.
im sorry, I know you are new here, but you lead me to ask some very generic questions....................
are you in the right forum for the right phone? this is for the Note1
I only ask this because I cant even find any GB ROMS for this phone. the Note 1 has been updated to official JB. I would and I am sure you would hate to flash wrong files to wrong phone and wind up with a BRICK.
I am not trying to make it sound as if you don't even know what phone you have, but you would not be the first to flash wrong and kill your phone.
may I suggest you read up in the "Super Everything Thread", which is in the General Forum. you will find exactly that, EVERYTHING, there. Odin is no big deal and super easy to use. also most don't even use CWM or ROM MANAGER anymore. TWRP is now the RECOVERY of choice and much more user friendly.
there are also many YOUTUBE tutorals that can walk you through. but first, lets make sure you are in the right place.
your phone is a ???????? NOTE 1
you carrier is ?????? att, tmo, ver, sprint
it is presently running ??????? GB, ICS, JB
good luck and let us know if we help

Sorry about that... I have the Samsung Galaxy Note i717 for AT&T and I am running Gingerbread 2.3.6
I thought that if a rom could run on GB it could run on any phone that has GB but your response has lead me to know that it also depends on what phone I'm running, so thanks!
I'll go and double check to see if the rom I tried to install was for the note... I guess I'm lucky I didn't brick my phone when I tried flashing the other 2 rome xD... Gonna count my blessings tonight lol

don't need to apologize to me for anything. the more information the better. not only are there so many phones out there, there are variations of those phones that have gotten people in trouble.
you have the North American version
International version
Korean version
different internals and wont all take same ROM. just be careful my friend.

I am looking into this rom, looks pretty interesting. Flashing the "AT&T fix" though, do I put that on my SD card also?
Update: For some reason I can not install rome
I am not sure what I am doing wrong because I have Rom manager do everything when I put the .zip file on my SD card and the phone restarts like normal, I even tried doing it manually in cwm recovery. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. And this rom I know for sure is meant for GB and the i717.
Any suggestions? Thanks again
You mean it's a gb rom meant for the i717 galaxy note....... I think you may be a little mixed up on what a rom is and what your actually doing...... Explain in detail what exact steps your doing when your flashing the rom so someone can help you.

I appreciate your patience
Step 1: I put the downloaded .zip rom (saurom) into my external sd card in a special folder I named Roms
Step 2: I fire up Rom manager and go to "Install ROM from SD Card"
Step 3: Go to folder containing the Saurom .zip file and select it
Step 4: Make sure "Backup Existing Rom" and "Wipe Data and Cache" are selected
Step 5: Hit "Reboot And Install"
The phone will then turn off and restart like normal, I check but the rom did not install. I honestly have no idea how I'm screwing up lol

You have to understand this as well, the ROMS do not install in conjunction or within the current Stock ROM. They replace them. So as stated above you have to make sure you have CWM or TWRP installed and boot directly to the custom recovery. Then wipe your data/system/cache/dalvik and after all of that install the ROM of choice.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525341
The very first thing listed in this topic is how to install Saurom. No where does it say to try and do it through ROM Manager.
Maybe that is where your hiccup is coming from?
No further instructions needed good luck and happy flashing

Alright so I forgot that I had to wipe the data/system / cache / dalvik
But even when I tried that just now and went into installing the .zip file it said that the installation failed, is it because cwm was removed when I wiped the device?

haha, only problem is that the rom hit an error anyways so I'm still lost at what I am doing wrong...
Another question, when I reset all of the settings and stuff before I flash the rom, wouldn't that get rid of titanium back up? then how would I restore my apps and data?
Yes you are right... But first stick your phone in the freezer for 2hrs...then microwave it for 3 mins... It will cause your recovery to reconstruct and see your internal storage enabling developer options to be on... Then hit the rom installer button.
