Does the GB bootloader offer any advantage if I'm on MIUI 1.9.16? Can I flash thru odin with no problem?

I'm getting the Galaxy S 2. However, can I straightaway flash a custom ROM or do I need to unlock bootloader first???
It has an unlocked bootloader, thus you can install any custom ROM straightaway.
You can flash straight away, a ROM like Lite'ning will root your phone so no need to root before hand.
My new issues are completely different that my previous post, and I'm stuck at what to do at on final point.
I want to know if I should either
A: Install 2.3.4 stock rom and then unlock the bl, root, flash romracers, flash cm7
B: wipe via fastboot, retry installing 2.3.4 w/ unlocked bl/root
Just giving an overview of what I've done to this point
Flash SBF from 1.5.7 rooted gingerblur to 1.8.3 stock
Flash SBF from 1.8.3 stock to 4.5.91 w/ unlocked bl/root
activate root via adb
attempted to flash romracers via fastboot - failed
realize bl is still locked
reflash 4.5.91 w/ unlocked bl/root - same issue
tried to install cmw via rom recovery - failed to boot 2 error
reflash 4.5.91 w/ unlocked bl/root
install cmw for locked bl from another source - works, but only on reboot connected to a charger.
So from here I'm not sure whether to take option A or B, or a mix of both.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
i would go with Option A

To get official updates you need to relock your bootloader then repair via sus or pc companion.

if u want to flash via flashtool, you dont need to relock
but if ur using seus or pc companion u need to relock.

It will help you relock your bootloader..
And if you just want to get to a custom rom, you can flash using latest version of flashtools.. Simply download a firmware and flash it via flashtool and you are back to stock

Yes first thing you need to do is relock your bootloader. After re-locking it you can repair it via SUS or PC companion, then you will have stock Kernel and Rom.
Thanks! :good:
is it possible to install a stock rom
bootboader is unlocked, i am running a custom rom??
You can either find a rooted stock ROM, then just flash in CWM like a custom.
Or relock the bootloader, and run the correct RUU for your version.
Hy
I'm new to xperia, I want to flash custom rom on this device for my friend, need some help please
So I need to unlock bootloader to flash cwm? or cwm could be flashed without unlocking bootloader?
after that just flash custom rom from recovery?
because of very small amount of phone memory which rom have option to use memory card partition to use as internal memory.

No, you can flash CWM straightaway.
And don't forget, YOU CANNOT RUN CUSTOM KERNELS ON A LOCKED BOOTLOADER. YOU CAN ONLY RUN STOCK OR STOCK BASED ROMs.
say no to Drugs and ICS!

You can install CWM Recovery without unlocking bootloder but you have to root your phone first.
If you unlock your bootloader, you can flash any custom kernel which is built fir your device which will have CWM Recovery in it. i.e, you don't need to install CWM Recovery separately.
Once you have the CWM Recovery, you can install any custom ROM.
& don't worry, ROMs are built in large packages so that they're compatible with a number of devices. It doesn't mean that whole package will be copied as is to your root. Instead, you'll have some more free internal memory....

Happy Flashing!

tnx, so what do you recommend, unlock bootloader-----flash cwm-----and rom. Kernel and rom are in same file everything could be flashed from device, cwm ?
tnx again
First decide whether you want to unlock your bootloder or not. I recommend you to unlock your bootloder but it WILL void your warranty but you'll be able to do alot more than Locked Bootloder like using custom kernels & you'll be able to flash ANY available ROM built for your device.
So 2 options for you:
1. If you want Locked Bootloder:
Root Your Phone > Install CWM Recovery > Flash any stock based ROM using CWM Recovery.
2. If you want Unlocked Bootloder:
Unlock your Bootloder > Flash any Custom Kernel (Which is compatible with ROM you want to install) > Install the ROM using CWM Recovery.
