Ok, I'm an old fart coming over to Android from an old Palm Treo 700p. I need a good memo app similar to the one on the 700p. I've looked at the market and lots of free/cheap apps available. Anyone have any advice as to which one or ones to try first?
Thanks
Jackie

Feel free to tag that 'Thanks' button at any time there bro ... lol ... surely, that is NOT why I help peeps, but it does look great & makes me feel oh so special
hope you like EVRNOTE ... I did notice it was 3.5mb in size but it is just one of those apps I just accept it as it is, b/c it is such a great app !! I really like the voice recorded note-taking, the voice-managed functions, the syncing ... well, I have already said it all .... lmk what you think. I am sure there are great Memo apps well under the 3.5 mb size, but -again- I think you'll find its worth it !

I prefer Springpad over Evernote, although I haven't used Evernote in a while. Springpad is a great note taker/to do list maker/orginizational tool/etc and it is one of the few things that helps me stay organized.

Looks like a real winnner at first glance ... its SO EASY to go awhile w/o seeing many of the endless amounts of other relevant tools out there waiting to be found & then, simply by word of mouth, It is the 'new bad-ass app' that no one knew about > and leaves everyone wondering what they've been doing w/o it !!!
I was never a big fan of the ALL green/lackluster UI of EVERNOTE, but was easily won over by its many uses & adaptability .... I already like the UI of SP .... gonna run em side by side & see which I prefer.
>Not to mention SP is about 2mb smaller than EVERNOTE ... thats a + ...
Downloaded those programs and they are very feature rich programs but a little overkill for what I wanted. My son uses XM Notepad which looks more like what I wanted. Only problem is that I would like to move all my notes over from my Treo 700p and it does not have an import feature.

I saw a youtube video today of this app - and I really liked that you could draw with it.

I'm not sure if there is any other app like this or not, but I have the APK file. When I try to install, it just says "Application Not Installed" presumably because some signature doesn't match up with it not being a Flyer tablet. Anybody know any way around this?
There is no app called tab notes that might work for you.
A little help please?
I'm a total noob here but I have the same exact question (although for the lenovo thinkpad tablet, not the SGS 10.1). I got the apk for the notes app but I got the same error message when trying to install. I really hope there's a way around this because Lenovo's included app isn't all that great and nothing on the market works as well. I also really want to sideload the HTC Flyer PDF viewer because it allows much easier highlighting and annotation with many fewer steps than ezPDF or Repligo.
Have you tried the Foxit app for pdf annotations? It's the best, IMO (and it's free on the Foxit site).
Wow thanks! I didn't even know that existed. It's definitely a big improvement on the other pdf readers in terms of ease of markup but the pen input definitely needs improvement - it's very jaggedy, but its in beta anyway so maybe they'll work on that.
Excellent, but where do i get the pen from?have anyone buy stylus for tab10.1?

I have exactly same question, did anyone have any luck with this. I don't mind purchasing this application or even something like this, if it is available on the market.

Where did you get the apk file? Can you point me where I can get it? Or I can PM you with my dropbox folder if you still have it? Thanks.
Hi,
The Lenovo Android Tablet is released. It comes with the same n-trig digitizer technology as in the Flyer. It has apps with handwriting recognition such as VisionObjects Notes and maybe DocsToGo ( 5'30": http://androidcommunity.com/lenovo-thinkpad-tablet-hands-on-video-20110719/ ) which are quite handy.
It would be wonderful if our community can extract and port those apps to the Flyer (through ROM or apk). I am not in IT so I hope that the work can be done by someone here.
Cheers.
(I don't know whether the Development Forum is a correct one to post things like this. Mod please move the thread to other forums if necessary.)

Edit: I just took the notesmobile_len-oem.apk and notesmobile_len-data-de_DE.apk(for german language) from the dumb.
They installed fine on my GB 2.3.3 Flyer but once I'm starting the app it ays that this version of notes mobile is not compatible with my device.
Could someone simply check if it works on a HC flyer?
Edit2: Just removed the device check... However - it still crashes right after start - anyone who wants to try my version without device check? Maybe it is running on honeycomb.
cool software.hope can get it soon
I hope someone will do it, it seems great.
Well - like I said:
I can share the notesmobile apk to anyone who is running honeycomb on the flyer.
I eventually also removed the device check.
But since I haven't moved to honeycomb yet - I can't try. :-/

Please, do it! A lot of people have already moved to HC
Try the following:
1. Install Notesmobile_len_oem.apk
2. Install the language pack (eg notesmobile_len-data-en_GB.apk)
3. Put the two lib files in your "system/lib" folder if possible
4. Run the notesmobile application for the first time. --> If you get a "device not supported error" continue with 5.
5. Uninstall notesmobile (keep the language pack and lib files in place)
6. Install notesmobile_len-oem-signed.apk
7. Run the notesmobile app (this version should ignore the device check)
@Himmig, got FC on process com.visionobjects.notesmobile_len
I also got the same force close.
I wanna know can man use it on GB?

Anybody tried WritePad, and another one is PenReader? It seems to be a pretty decent handwriting recognition app. It works like a keyboard, so can be used in any app. I hope it will be even much better on the Flyer with Honeycomb.
Anybody using Flyhigh ROM has been succesful to run this application?
well the problem is the following;
1. The flyer has 2 x touch film layers which work on different voltage readings. However the main touchscreen has the ability to detect both voltges, and hence why it can trigger into notepad mode when the pen nibbles touches the screen.
2. The the application itself is designed to work on a different android framework... This would need to be modified to sense.framework as otherwise they just won't compile well together. You also have to modify the application source code to accept the pen voltages instead of fingers...
Unless you want to use fingers too? If so that is another bastard in itself to set up with the pencils interface.
I've tried with SBM to see if the pen could be modified to write with it etc, and but failed, and hence I believe we need afew development to work on this.

update your flyer to HC and buy writepad : you won't need to port this app anymore
Are people trying to get Notes Mobile to work or the handwriting recognition text input to work? Or both?
For those still getting force closes on Notes Mobile, I monitored logcat and found that you need to push the following into /system/lib/:
libMyScriptEngine.so, libMyScriptHWR.so, and libStylusCore.so
If you're running Himmig's modified apk, then it should be fine. If you're just using the apk straight from the system dump, then build.prop needs to spoof the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet.
I've been playing with Notes Mobile on my Flyer for a couple of days, and handwriting recognition is quite spiffy. As a note-taking app, I still like HTC Notes better since it syncs with Evernote and it's just integrated better. You could export to HTC Notes from Notes Mobile though.
I actually don't know if the handwriting IME is part of the system dump. Is it there?
Thanks for the input mate... I should have looked at logcat :-/
I'll try if it works and see if the modified apk is able to surpass the device check... however - could you post your build prop modifications?
Since I haven't submitted 8 posts yet, I can't post links to the app page on the market. To see the app, search for "LectureNotes" (all one word) in the market, and it will be the first to come up. If you search for "Lecture Notes" (2 words), it will be a little way down the list of apps.
I am a college student that purchased a transformer prime and an adonit jot pro to replace my laptop and to allow me to take hand-written notes. I have searched for almost month for a good note app, purchasing and installing around 15 note applications, and I have been disappointed by each one of them. LecutreNotes goes above and beyond all of my expectations - it is by far the best hand-writing note application on the market today!
It has everything you would expect from a hand-writing application, as well as the ability to easily select areas and cut/copy/delete them. There are a bunch of settings for changing the way you zoom and scroll while taking notes, as well as settings for paper height, width, type, line size, and line color. On top of that, there is also a very handy feature that keeps the screen from locking while the application is open.
If you are looking for an app to take notes with a stylus, this is the one to get.
OP spelled the name wrong
here
Just tried it and it sucked. Probably the worst that I have tried.
What did i spell incorrectly? (so i can fix it in the post)
thank you in advance!
I have no stylus, just finger.. but don't care for it all that much. I wish it had the ability to launch the camera from within the app, so for that it is extra steps. I personally still like the stock one a little more.

Thanks, theching14. I have tried LectureNotes and like it a lot! It works quite well with my JotPro stylus, and does not seem to have the "skips" when writing small looped letters that I experienced with other handwriting apps. I particularly like the scroll and zoom bars, the custom pens, and the ability to rope and move text.
It would be nice to be able to create folders and store notebooks within them. I will suggest that to the developer.

Has anyone compared this one to Quill? I was just about to buy Quill when I found this post.
Seems like a pretty solid app. Been using writepad stylus which has been fine and is fairly similar. But the ability to zoom is a pretty big plus for this app so may switch. Cutting and pasting is nice as well. Probably won't use it much, but for those few times it definitely would be nice.

I have tried Quill, and although it was pretty good, I found the main drawback being that there was no scroll bars. First you had to Zoom, then scroll the page, then un-Zoom. You could write in the zoomed in screen. Quill did have palm detection (can toggle this to appear on bottom of screen), while LecureNotes currently does not.
Quill did not appear to have any "highlighter" pens that would not overwrite existing writing. I like to be able to highlight previously written content.
I've tried several Android handwriting apps, and they each have their pluses and minuses. I've been taking notes on their features, and plan on posting a write-up soon.
So far, my favorites are LectureNotes and Antipaper Notes.
Hi folks,
I am the author of LectureNotes, I was glad to read that the app is useful for you. Sorry for joining this forum and this thread so late, but I learned only very recently that there are couple of forum threads related to LectureNotes.
Note that I uploaded v1.12.2 today with a couple of minor additions, the most important one probably being the possibility to choose the directory where the app stores your notebooks.
Best regards,
Markus
Dears,
I use LectureNotes (=LN) with HTC Flyer and so far there's no better. No Quill, no Papyrus. Stock one is unfortunately worse than all... Go and buy the paid version along with LectureRecordings (it's also paid). It is far worth of each penny.
LN has a really wide setting range. You can change settings from a variety of choices. You can add layers, add image, add sound (with LectureRecordings which I immidiately installed), create custom pens, make highlight pens, add keyword and search, organize with folders, customeize the paper color, scheme etc everything...
It automatically recognizes the pen of HTC Flyer and it supports pressure sensitive. Set the pen buttons for different actions. Export PDF with vector graphics and full background.
If you have a active stylus tablet, just spare a few bucks to buy this LN +LR. You will never regret and will carry no notebook anymore...
Markus did really a good job, thanks many...

@hlimbu00: Most users recommend either the Adonit J-Prot or the Wacom Bamboo stylus, this is a bit a matter of taste.
I know most aren't as wild about this app as I am but I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find this app to work with ICS. I've tried Geo-Tagging as well as the Footprints app in the Market but it's not the same as the one that came stock with most HTC phones up until the LTE. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great. I can't believe HTC omitted this app. I even contacted them and they pointed me to the app in the Market that, to be frank, sucks! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
They also left out the HTC Notes app that's on the international One X. Not happy about that either.
The Notes app and Flashlight app are located in HTC Hub. However, I'm stuck without my Footprints. Oh well, time to whip something up. LoL
HTC Notes, Where is it located in the HTC Hub? I've looked all thru it.

Supernote works great. It is from the Transformer Prime, but it works on our phone too.
Someone posted it in this section recently I do believe. Search for it and check it out...
Update: I couldn't find the Footprints App but I've found something even better. It's called SpotMarker Pro in the market. I am working closely with the Dev of this app to get it set up to how Footprints was set up. I actually like it better than Footprints and now I don't have to root to get this app.
Thanks, I'm quite a fan of Footprints as well. Good to see another option.
Sent via Tapatalk on my EVO LTE
No problem. It's a great alternative for those that don't wanna root and still have the ability to document the places you've been. The good thing about Spotmarker is you can export your files as a kmz file and that's the same extension that Footprints uses so if you decide to root and tackle Footprints, you won't miss a beat.
Foursquare isn't the likely alternative?
I love it.
Sent from my EVO LTE
I wanted something like Footprints that doesn't rely on logging in on a website. I believe, and I could be wrong, but Foursquare is a web based program that requires you to be online for it to work properly and requires one to sign in. I'd rather not do that so that's why I said Spotmarker was excellent because it works just as well as Footprints, if not better.
Probably better, Footprints never made transporting the data a possibility so sadly you still lose it with every new HTC that had Footprints. So Spotmarker would be better in that respect I guess.
Me:
I turned to Foursquare to retain the data on the phones & PC with the ability to share.
