I just rooted the HTC flyer and want to flash recovery but it asks to confirm the type of phone i have. Which type do i select to work with the flyer?
You need to modify the settings file of ROM Manager first in order to get it to recognize your device, according to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16702482&postcount=6
I did the following link that you posted i changed the setting file to read flyer and overwrited the existing setting file in clockworks but it still gives me that list to select which phone i have

Now that we have a CWM image that works with the Flyer, has anyone started working with @koush to get our CWM image on the Rom Manager list?
I would like to be able to use Rom Manager, but it requires CWM to be installed by the app.
Honestly I think he should support multiple recoveries. Why only cwm?

Express/Flyer Rom Manager Workaround
I have the View (Express) and I used a little workaround until its recovery is listed. I copied and edited the .settings file from my 3d's clockworkmod directory changing the detected_device from "shooter" to "express". Then, I overwrote the original .settings file in my View's clockworkmod directory with the edited one, rebooted and Rom Manager recognizes recovery and allows me to peform all functions except Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. I've pasted the contents of that file below and I've also included a zipped copy. Try changing "express" to "flyer" and see how it goes.
{"paypal_transaction_id":"","is_clockworkmod":true ,"current_recovery_version":"3.0.0.5","detected_de vice":"express","flash_recovery":"","readonly_reco very":false,"recovery_timestamp":1312091378056,"re boot_recovery":""}
Awesome mate!
Could you patch that also for the flyer, then I could add the patched version to my rom? (I have so many things to do..)
That would be great

Works great with my Flyer 3G/Wifi. I just started a backup using Rom Manager - Very nice.
I used your .settings file and modified "express" to read "flyer" as you suggested. I simply replaced the existing .settings file in /sdcard/clockworkmod with the new one attached.
Cheers!
Please disregard this post.
strange as i have just installed rom manager onto my flyer and clicked reboot into recovery and it did this just fine, no work around needed.
is this needed for backing up etc as i already did this in the recovery menu not via rom manager

You may or may not need it, but it's fixed these problems for some: When selecting "Download ROM", "Check for ROM Updates", "Install from QR Code", "Manage and Restore Backups", "Backup Current ROM", "Partition SD Card", or "All ClockworkMod Recoveries" most people encounter the error "You must have ClockworkMod Recovery installed before continuing! Install the recovery through ROM Manager first". When "Install ROM from SD Card" is selected a warning is displayed "Flashing an update package on a recovery other than ClockworkMod Recovery may not work properly. Proceed?
Yeah it restarts to recovery fine but in Tom manager it didn't allow to backup or manage until I changed settings
In ROM Manager, press menu, then 'manual flash override'
Hey guys,
After almost three hours of googling and frustration, I cannot find an answer to my question.
I have a Galaxy S 4G, rooted using Superoneclick (confirmed by having wireless tether and superuser)
I installed Rom Manager, got the clockworkflash version for my phone, and started a reboot into recovery mode.
...
when I got to recovery mode, I see a little android and a exclamation mark. There was an error with installation saying something like "signature not verified"
All I want to do is replace the dialer graphics for my phone.
And that requires some flashing.
I tried an alternate method where I used Root Explorer, trying to replace the old dialer file with a new one. However, I am unable to modify the permissions in the system folder. Whenever I change the permission, it reverts back to the regular settings. I cannot rewrite any file in the system folder.
So how do I get recovery mode to work on my phone,
and how do I modify system file permissions to make them re-writable?
Hey so I'm attempting to re-root my Nexus S 4G (now at stock 4.0.4), but when I reboot, it says I'm rooted....however when I try to reboot back into recovery, it goes to stock recovery. I'm not too sure, but I'm wondering if they put the safety feature from 2.3.1 back in the 4.0.4......
P.S.- I'm also havingtrouble getting ROM Manager to work (because Clockwork doesn't exhist in the recovery...I'm guessing)
There is a file that you have to delete using a file manager...I think it is in the recovery folder called "set on boot". Let me check around and see if I can get the exact location and name.
Edit: Here you go. http://www.theandroidsoul.com/install-touch-based-clockworkmod-cwm-recovery-on-galaxy-nexus/
Step 1 shows the file to delete. That file automatically pushes you to the stock recovery.
The problem is SuperUser isn't responding as "rooted" I don't have the permission to Mount R/W.....I'm not sure where to go from here...
Even though clockwork ROM Manager is installed,
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.rommanager
When I try to run it - it says: "you must have ClockwordMod Recovery installed before continuing! Install the recovery thropugh ROM Manager first"
Normally you would just download it but how is this done on a phone without internet connection, can I download the .apk file somewhere then move it to phone? Android phones are Motorola Cliq and CliqXT.

ClockworkMod recovery is not an application (.apk file). It's an image file. You can get the images here: http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager.
Thank you. How do you install the capability to run the image recovery process by simply running it from the ClockwordMod App, not by manually rebooting?
In other words, on a phone with internet access, you simply "Install the recovery thropugh ROM Manager first".
But how do you install it manually without internet access. How do you install the image file you linked to?

See here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Motorola_Cliq:_Full_Update_Guide and follow the "Installing a Custom Recovery Image" section. Change the names as needed.
I'm not sure we understand each other so let me try to clarify and by the way thanks for your help:
Goal:
1. From within running CynogenMod launch ROM Manager >
2. Manage and Restore Backups >
3. Select exiting backup > Restore > OK
It automatically reboots and does its thing.
So now, if you have a phone on which ROM Manager is not installed, you install it and launch it from already running CyanogenMod *however* you get this message:
"you must have ClockwordMod Recovery installed"
It then simply downloads something and from then on you are able to use the ROM Manager to restore existing backups not by custom rebooting but by simply running it from within a running CyanogenMod.
Isn't the image file you linked to for custom booting into the restore environment from which you run the restore? I am trying to "run" the restore by simply lunching the ROM Manager which then itself reboots and runs the restore automatically.
What is it exactly that is installed when you get this message so that I can install it on a phone without an internet connection.
I know how to custom boot by holding the button etc. I just want to not custom boot and have it launch automatically by simply using a shortcut and launching the restore process which itself reboots and does its thing.

The image I linked to is the "thing" Rom Manager downloads when it gives that message (if you have an internet connection). Flashing that file and linking it to Rom Manager will remove that error.
Got it.
Selecting Flash ClockworkMod Recovery from ROM manager to try to use the img file you linked to results in an "error while downloading from server. Please make sure that you have a stable internet connection..."
So that does not work for the thread topic, which is doing this w/o internet connection.
Will try the Android SDK Tools method.
0. The Cliq XT is known as Zeppelin.
1. Install Motorola USB drivers:
http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-...tware_and_Drivers/USB-and-PC-Charging-Drivers
2. Install Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE): http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/
3. Get Android SDK zip: http://developer.android.com/sdk/
4. Unzip it and start SDK Manager.exe and download Android SDK Tools.
5. Get ClockworkMod Recovery, for example:
http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-4.0.0.5-zeppelin.img
Copy recovery-clockwork-4.0.0.5-zeppelin.img to
Android SDK folder android-sdk-windows\platform-tools
7. Phone Settings > Applications > Unknown sources (select green check mark to activate it)
Settings > Applications > Development > Enable USB Debugging
Make sure the phone is rooted. Check if Superuser icon is in the drawer menu.
*** Connect the phone to computer but DO NOT enable USB Drive ***
8. Use DOS to navigate to the android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory
for example, if the folder location is C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools
then in type this in DOS:
c:
cd android-sdk-windows\platform-tools
adb shell
su
***You must press on Allow on the phone when prompted***
cd /sdcard/
flash_image recovery recovery-clockwork-4.0.0.5-zeppelin.img
For this to work you will need to be rooted with twrp installed.
This is for people who are on the stock rom or a rom without init.d support.
1. Download the wp_mod.ko file from @flar2's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701816
and copy it over to your SD card (either internal or external)
2. Boot into twrp
3. Select the "Mount" option on the main menu and tick system
4. Go back to the main menu and then go into the "Advanced" option. There will be a "File Manager" option
5. Navigate to the folder you saved the .ko file in and copy it (just touch the file and it will bring up the menu)
6. now navigate to /system/lib/modules and copy the file there by hitting the "select" button on the bottom right.
7. Navigate to /system/lib/modules and insure the file is there. Now touch it to bring up the menu. select "Chmod" option and enter in 644
8. reboot the device
9. Once booted fully open up Terminal emulator and type:
su
insmod /system/lib/modules/wp_mod.ko
10. Once that's done open up a file manager app with root access and mount as r/w and navigate to /system/etc and look for the file install-recovery.sh
11. edit the file using a text editor, adding the line insmod /system/lib/modules/wp_mod.ko towards the bottom of the file
12. reboot and enjoy r/w on boot without running the command every time
13. profit
is this like being s-off, without being actually s-off
Not entirely, you will be able to make changes to system files while booted but you won't be able to flash fastboot zips like s-off
Or you could flash this kernel.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705074
And yes it does work on stock

that will only work to repair writing to SD CARD. This fix is for writing to the system.
Personally... If you can get s off.. I would do so. Makes life easier in the long run.

the .ko file is in the correct directory and install-recovery.sh is correctly modified.

First off, please don't quote the whole top post when its a long guide like this. I know its the default to quote the post when you reply. So just delete it, before you submit your post. We don't need the thread cluttered up with multiple reposts of what is already in the top post.
The mod makes very specific changes to the kernel, so I would say there is most likely no way in heck this will work on an M7, and might even damage it.

Ok... Sorry and thanks
HTC M8 and rw fix
Still unable to get this to work,I followed your detailed instructions and wp_mod.ko is in correct directory with correct permission and install-recovery.sh is modified correctly.
However after final rebott (several in fact) /system is still r/o
I took a TRWP backup before I started so I restored and followed your instructions again , still same result, should this work immediately or will it take several reboots before it is operative? Other discussions on this and other sites indicate the latter.

Whichever Sense file corresponds to your Android build in Settings>About>Software.
If you are on the stock ROM, I'm guessing 4.4.2, since I do not believe 4.4.3 has rolled out to T-Mobile yet.
As usual, I would make a nandroid before flashing anything.
