[Q] Are this Google apps ok to freeze? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone tell me what are google one time init, google partner setup, latin input tutorial used for? i know they are installed with google apps so it is safe to remove/Freeze them?

Google one time init I think has to do with promoting you to sign in to your Google account. Latin tutorial seems safe I don't think the partner one would be safe. The you could always backup and try

Call me an idiot...but I thought Google sync was obsolete with android, considering most of the devices are powered by Google! ....am I wrong....be nice !!
I will reiterate - Titanium Backup works great for restoring, in my case programs with data like Timeriffic.

You are wrong. Google sync is an android feature. It's one of the benefits to logging in with your gmail account when you setup a new ROM.

I've never been able to get Titanium Backup to backup and restore contacts...
You could just export your contacts to your SD card then import them back after you flash a new ROM. While in people, hit menu then export.

i haven't had much issue with this personally so i'm not 100% sure.
my best guess would be, perhaps you're able to manage your market account on their web site and remove the applications? http://market.android.com and login with the account linked on your device.
i know once you purchase an application, there never seems to be a remove option. although, if the application was free, removing it once, should keep it removed from your account.
i'm sure anybody with more experience will post up. hope that helps!
choose not to backup your apps with google when running the setup wizard
Ahh duuhh thanks guys

Can't purchase any apps in Google Play

Hey guys,
For about 5 months now, I've been unable to purchase any apps in Google Play. In fact, I can't even see paid apps, only free ones.
I've tried clearing the data and cache for Google Play. I've restored the device to factory settings using the volume down and power button several times. None of that has worked.
I've emailed Google about it, but they have been useless. The only way for me to get paid apps on my tablet is to purchase them on my phone and then download them on my tablet. Which isn't ideal as some apps are incompatible on my phone. And I've noticed there are a lot of apps incompatible with the Transformer Prime.
I live in the UK and the device is set to UK. Please can someone help, it's driving me mad!

Not a solution but you can also purchase apps on the google play web and push them to your tab.
I can't, when I go through the website, my tablet is greyed out and won't let me purchase apps on to it.
I can't even see paid apps on the website! What the hell is going on??

Create another google play account to purchase apps for your prime with?!
What about the apps I've purchased with my current Google account, can I still use them?

Things currently installed shouldnt stop working I would think.
At any rate, it was really a suggestion to narrow the problem down to the account, not your device. Then take that info to google and tell them to freaking fix it.
I'm sure you want to get your gmail etc... so you would have to switch accounts everytime you bought something. Not practical.
You could though say "Hey google, I made this new account named X, logged in with my prime and was able to add apps.
Ah, yes, that's a good idea. I will try that over the weekend. Thanks for the suggestion.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Well, I tried making another account but it's still not showing any paid apps. I'll send an email to Google, see if they can come up with a solution.
If anyone can think of anything else, please let me know.

[Q] Usability when running a custom rom without a google account

In the interests of security I want to operate my SGSII i9100 on a custom rom and without a google account. Now I still want a useful phone with apps so what are my options to find and install these apps and just how difficult is it. I've read about APK files for example... I'd like to know how user friendly this is to do given I'm new to rooting and will not have access to a google play account to install apps.
Thks
Why dont you just use your google account with custom rom?
Edit: there is no security issue on a custom ROM as far as I know

I just don't want association with google accounts given previous difficulties. To clarify; I'm interested to know how practically I can operate my SGSII when running a good custom rom (such as Cyanogenmod) without any google accounts. eg: how difficult will it be to add new applications manually.
Thks
Look dude, you seem to be a very paranoid or ill-informed person.
I have been using custom roms for years and never had a single problem with google accounts or security. If you're that concerned/paranoid then I would suggest not using a custom rom at all and staying with Sammy.
If you're asking how you can download paid apps without play store then that conversation is not allowed on XDA.
If you're that paranoid/concerned then stick with sammy roms or create a google account just for use on phone?
drug dealer alert better off getting a disposable. Way safer.

Hi guys
I was just wondering if we can make a full list of stock and bloat apps that are safe to freeze.
I know it is not so hard to know which ones to freeze but I think it is still useful!

You can freeze all these att junk...
I freaking love freezing AT&T's useless bloatware and a few days later I remove it. AT&T and DELL love to pack their devices with tones of **** I wonder who thinks this type of software is helpful. The reviews of the apps recommended by AT&T on Google Play are awful Nobody likes them.
I also removed LG keyboard, chrome and all the Google apps, I kept Gmail and Youtube though.
Does it have the same bloat as in 4.0.4?

That's what I thought.
That's not true I removed them all with root explore. All those on that list and more, just have to unlock with freegee first before deleting them.

You can remove them,at least that's what I do without any "side effects" I have been using Uninstaller Pro for years, there's pro (paid version) and the free one. Don't forget what whoamanwtf is saying and unlock with Freebee,in order for you to avoid surprises or the security error.
Be sure you are unlocked before you freeze/remove or you will get security error.

You can uninstall apps however they advice freezing over uninstalling because it has basically the same exact effect. However, with freezing, you can always unfreeze in case something is screwed up or you change your mind about an app or something.
as others said, if you are rooted and unlocked on stock jb, you can use titanium backup to uninstall all apps that have ATT in their name. i have done this and have no security errors or OS error popups.
