Thanks - this is certainly useful for those in need of a stock ROM when one's custom ROM isn't working or perhaps it will "fix" the WiFi problems ??
From what I've seen thus far, this ROM is Froyo 2.2.2 - (newer than 2.2) just curious to know whether it's compatible & newer hardware with ITE touch screen, regardless of version #'s
For anyone that managed to flash it - are there any new Apps bundled since it should have full access to Google Market ? I downloaded it to my storage drive just in case - for future consideration, even though it doesn't have the language(s) that I need.
The Viewsonic website link is very useful and I spend time surfing and looking around - interesting, that, it seemed the Vpad7 is NOT yet available for retail sales in many countries - but that one can sign up for email alerts once it is out. (and, meanwhile - VS is also going to launch the Vpad7 x )
For all interested...
I received my exchange device back today!
(old one had faulty softkeys and got replaced)
The device no has HWVer 1.06 (previous 1.03)
The device has THIS firmware installed - it IS 2.2.2.
As for ITE compatibility - I think HWVer 1.06 is ITE, since the touchscreen is REAL multitouch and not as before gots distrubed when crossing the axes.

That's GREAT & sure you are very happy and hopefully pleased with it - wonder if they repaired or fixed it (swapped out "bad" parts, or simply exchanged it for a new or refurbished one as sometimes it's fast & easier.)
Looked like yours now has been updated/upgraded with ITE hardware - with newer verision of Froyo loaded. It also meant that several rooted custom ROMs including the overclocking kernel won't work ....
As reference info for others, "hummy15" in another post mentioned that her/his device has ITE as had trouble initially with flashing TJ's custom FM6 ROM, until the workaround - info were
My Phone:
Viewpad 7
Android 2.2.2
Baseband PR3.7_128
Kernel version Apps_2.6.32.9
Build number 4027_3_420
That should be the same stock/factory ROM just "discovered" & shared here.
The difference compared with mine (and it's HWVer 107) with ITE
Baseband PR3.7_125
Build number 5029_3_310
(And, from the FTM screen - SWVer=3.41)
Cheers !!
So far everything works.
Except the compass...
It has the same old bug that it gets decalibrated within a few minutes.
PS: It's a complete new device. Other IMEI, other hardware and so on.
hardware version 106 is ITE i have this also,
mine is also andriod 2.2.2
glad to know the compass issue is a universal thing not just cuz i rooted my device.
on the funny side, i actually used it as a phone today, yes thats right i held it against my ear while talking. how funny did i look ????

Hmm, is rooting directly related to the compass issue?
I always rooted my VPAD7 after receiving it...
For making phone calls & Google Voice, I've rather use a Bluetooth headset - it's much easier (and safer if driving - and, if I can figure out a secure & solid way to mount it solid inside the car as oversized GPS for navigation - with the screen saver disabled .... looking for the Car Mode apk that's on our smartphone but isn't on the Vpad7)
With a better quality (noise-cancelling is best) stereo corded headset - the sound is quite good, no Bose but it's good enough when we travel - it's easy to connect to any 3.5mm with a patch cord.
The compass/calibration aren't a problem for mine (HWver 107 with ITE) and it certainly isn't resetting or losing settings every few minutes - at least no popup about need to configure/calibrate or simply "losing" orientation.
I fine tuned all the related GPS settings and also run the GPS Status & Tool apps from the Market, so fresh positioning data are updated every 2 hours as needed.
As for using the Vpad7 in portrait mode once it started up, I'm using the VTL Launcher (link posted elsewhere in this (sub)forum - just "search") along with Widgetsoid from Market - which provided a lot more options to quickly access, change, turn off/on features as needed (i.e. reboot device) without going thru all the hidden menus (as if anyone will likely remember them) and this combination is making it less likely to swing or rotate 90 degree back to landscape mode or worst, turn upside down. Give it a try & easily uninstalled if you decided later that you don't want to use it.
Cheers !

Thank you kindly for (sharing) the link - d/l the "ScreenOn" apps - (edit: tested as working) "on the road" in NAV - just what I need to make it a true 7" portable GPS (hell, it sure will knock my old HTC Eris with its (small'ish) 3.2" touch screen or even the HTC Inc2 global that I'm planning to upgrade to with 4" screen running Google Maps. That might just permanently retired the yet to be replaced Garmin 4.3" GPS (it "quit working" for good) & one less gadget to take along on out-of-town trips with carryons.
The other annoying functionality about our VPad7 is when watching YouTube, the screen orientation will turn whichever ways it feel like, no matter what settings that I try to lock it in .... oh, well - limitations of all android devices, until someone comes along with a brighter idea (fix/patch)
Cheers !
stay tuned, im working on a mount atm, i have to make a phone call about it tomorrow, to see how much it will cost, it will be custom fabricated so should be secure. ill work out the screen connecting side when i have a suitable mount for it.
on the upside i used it for navigation and it was as good as my desire, i have yet to put it through my tracks to see how acurate it really is, but it kept to the road, only messing up twice when i accellerated hard on a roundabout, it took the wrong turn but corrected itself after a few 1/2 secs.
No problem, Letitride
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
Everything is working...
I have updated my VP7 by this. Unfortunately now the device is not able to make connection to internet thru SIM card. Phone call is working.

I was very very happy when I saw 2003SE last week and I tried every version of it, incl. chinese one, but now I give up becouse it's not stable "NOT STABLE AT ALL" right now my PPC is so death as a peace of rock and when it starts after 100 times of softreset then it's freezes after 10 seconds...
So I'm going to flash it with off. v1.7 + ROM 1.18 and I'll wait one more month and see whats happening then....
Thanks you guys for your hard work
There seems to be alot of different experiences depending on the version of bootloader you have. I have version 1.06 and SE works like a charm, except for ONE anoying bug.
It simply wont ring when someone calls me.
Other than that, im very satisfied.

Well my fren, that's called life. We should be able to feel the joy and accept the sad part when something turns hairwire. No high and low will definitely make you an extremely dull person.
Cheer up! Specify your problems clearly and i think all the SE supporters will definitely help you in anyway they possibly could.
Look at the bright side, a not stable PPC makes me occupied and keep on thinking to overcome the challenges ahead. Opps...sorry guys i think i'm abit overly here like doing a motivation course.....
Nevertheless, i just wanted to save a lost soul of SE to revive back his excitement before an official launch of WM2003SE.....

Ah!! now i see, its because i chosed to start wisbar advance automaticly.
When i removed that option, it WORKED!! THANX!!!!
Wisbar advance freezes the phone application on 2k3SE shame because it is a good program.
My extended ROM consists of GSFinder (freeware), MIDI561.sa, todayweather (freeware old version), Extended ROM unlocker by xda-developers, Cproghook, BT executable upgrade and CameraB10_Hima25_WWE.
Oh yeah and a licensed verion of TomTom3.
I threw everything else out as I dont use it.
My XDA2 now benchmarks at 1452 according sbp benchmark which according to their comparisons on the website is 2nd or 3rd fastest. 1 full charge see's 24-30 hrs use without a recharge on standby including the folowing settings: bluetooth of, average of 4-5 hrs spend email, telephone, sat nav and games with back light to minimum and switch of backlight after 2 min and unit of after 3 min .
My conclucion is that 2k3SE is stable however a lot of the software used by us is not wholely compatible yet as it is a new platform and until the vendors realise their software bugs it will make 2k3SE appear to be unstable!
just my £0.02
I can assure you that the 2.20.07.CHS, aka the chinese version i s stable just like 1.72 was in its time
yes maybe there are some problem relating to the software (wisbar, I had the same problem as you guys), but it is not the wm2003se fault, but the fault of the software houses realesing apps with no SE support.
So try to look at the good times we are having doing all that upgrade, downgrade stuff....
The T9 Intellipad, does NOT save words if you chose another language.
This is seriously not good on my device, since im from sweden.
Has anyone got any sollution to this problem?!...
you will need to get the latest new version for WIn2003 SE
cause most of the software/program design for win2003 only not SE yet
wait for new version for SE
then you dun have the problems
I m running my A.K.A chinese SE no error/problems with all my software/program
Now I figured out how to get rid of the wisbar adv problem.
I found it on the lakeridge soft forum.
There is a guy that uninstalled the caller_id app, and it solves the problem.
I personaly don't use the caller_id thing (picture of the caller) and I don't have any problems in removing it.
Maybe it helped
I recently bought a TyTNfor almost $900 including a 2 GB expansion card. Despite dozens of hours of trying to get it to work correctly, I find th TyTN almost intolerably buggy.
Specifically:
1) the phone loses connections frequently -- much worse than the Cingular 8125 or my old Treo 650.
2) numerous application programs either crash the device or do not run properly -- specifically, the Audible.com player, the the automated download feature or of Audible Air, most of the SPB utility applications, SBSH Weather (VGA Icons), SBSH Ilauncher and others.
3) the battery life absolutely sucks. I get less than eight hours of operation -- with very few telephone calls. I do have Microsoft push e-mail turned on. However, this ought to work -- for God's sake, or what's the point?
4) the screen/stylus requires re-alignment at least twice a daily..
Is there anyone out there who can help me and walk me through the installation of a new ROM, or some kind of update that makes this device work in a tolerable manner?
I would be very happy to pay you for your consulting time. Otherwise, I want to try to get HTC to take this buggy phone back for a full refund and I will go back to using my old Treo 650.
Many thanks for your attention and future help.
ROM version 1.18.255.3
ROM date 07/22/06
Radio Version 1.03.03.10
Once I hear that you have alignment problems, then, from what I hear you have bad luck since you have one of the firt TyTns out there. I heard that HTC replaces these units. It hapens to be a common problem on the early devices.
I have my MDA Vario II (a variation of a Hermes) and till now 4 days long extremely happy with everything.

Well, I am sorry you are having these problems. I don't think most of them are a Tytn problems in general.
1) First I have heard of this. I have had the Tytn for a month now and don't have that problem. I move in and out of a 3g area and whether on GSM or UMTS, call quality has been great (better than my Wizzard in fact). Maybe your problem is a SIM issue since this phone is not supported by your carrier where you others might be? I went and got a new SIM when I got mine so I don't know if that could be an issue or not.
2) I don't use many apps. I do use SBSH Weather v1.3.3 (regular icons) and it works well. No issues at all, updates just fine etc. I thought the VGA icons were for devices with a VGA screen (Universal for example). To the best of my knowledge the Wizzard, Tytn etc are not VGA devices so I don't think it helps to use the VGA icons, and who knows, maybe it could cause an issue on a non-VGA device. I have heard that SPB has issues. Slingplayer also works well for me, streaming video runs great.
3) I get ~3-4 days out of the battery if just used for calls, weather updates, and light browsing. Heavy UMTS browsing or streaming cuts that down significantly to 24-36 hours. I don't use push mail so don't know there, but there might be a config setting that is causing your device to get polled too frequently. I do know that one time I went into the phone menu and Band page to set Band to UMTS only. I forgot I did that, left a UMTS area and the phone went into constant network search mode instead of switching to GSM. That drained my battery in something less than 8 hrs.
4) I also don't have this problem. There are many reports of this problem though and the only fix I am aware of is a replacement.
Bottom line is I suspect you have a bad phone (reception and alignment issues) as well as setup issues or program conflicts causing your apps problems.
try to upgrade to the lastest rom!

I would love to take your money, but I think you should take it back and get something else. Maybe even a Treo. The reason I say this is because the TyTn is just not ready for Prime Time unless you are a power user or someone who doesn't feel the need to complain because it doesn't work properly. Power user go around these issues and figure out the problems.
This is no way an insult to you, it's just that if you can't deal with the problems, and you need to rely on a phone/pda, and email is very important to you maybe even go as low as to get a blackberry. In the meantime I personally would keep the TyTn and explore it and fully understand how it works. When you are ready to dive in and start using it as a "power user" then you will no longer need to worry about it's faults.
This is coming from 2 years of experience with the O2 Xda IIs. Which was the buggiest pocketpc phone that ever came out and today is one of the top, mainly due to the fact that once the ROM is hacked the development efforts go up considerably and you see increased productivity and usability.
But if you need the money, just get a refund.
Sorry about my blunt response, but I had a friend who I converted from a palm to a Blue Angel. He didn't like it so I got him into a wizard. He curse at it for a while, then he started loving it after a few weeks of using it. Now he would never go back to a Palm or a Treo or anything else. I got my TyTn only last week and have cursed it to hell and back several thousand times. But this is just the way it goes when you're one of the early adopters. Especially when the phone is not commercially available to the US and Canada.
Time heals all.
Fully agree with you axiom, the most sincere response you could have given him.
I also come from the BlueAngel and was one of the early adopters, now running helmi's 1.32 rom, that's why I truely understand what you mean
Thanks pof for backing me up. I am also still using my BlueAngel with with the 1.32 rom but primarily in my car for navigation. This way I don't have to spend another few hundred dollars on a Nav system. And it really bothers me when tomtom loads faster on my BlueAngel then it does on my TyTn, but then I am hopeful that the TyTn will prevail when the time is write and all our heads are in the right place.
As always, everyone is welcome to post their problems, concerns, and findings and I am always pushing people to hang in there because "I know" there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Thanks for all the thoughtful replys - but....
Perhaps this is a device that is a little too early for me. But I will not return it. I love the speed of the Cingular 3G network. And I am blown away by how well Exchange/Outlook push works. I would never go back to a Treo or to a Blackberry.
I was rather hoping someone may have an idea about an improved ROM. I did have a direct conversation with HTCEurope's tech support office. They said they were well aware of the problems with applications, especially with the Audible player. They wistfully referred to the folks in Taiwan creating a new ROM - any month now.
I hoped that one of you might feel that a beta Cingular or other ROM might fix some or all of my problems. And I hope that someone could talk me through the installation. I hope that is true.
Many thanks.

Oh please don't install the cingular beta ROM. Infact, as much I enjoyed using it for testing purposes, the last thing you want to do is start pushing ROMs. I am also waiting for a newer ROM, I was one of the first along with pof and others who installed the cingular roms and found some harsh truths, and some benefits. However, I went back to the dopod rom, with a radio update from the cingular rom. And this was a journey in possibly bricking my unit because going back from the cingular to one of the other roms is a chance and you need your original rom to go back.
If you must pursue upgrading your ROM, please keep a few things in mind:
1) And very important: If you don't know what you're doing, you could brick your unit.
2) A rom upgrade is only as good as the comments it has received from the users on this forum.
3) Most users who use the newest roms are, in most cases, advanced and understand that there will be problems.
4) Once you have started to upgrade your rom, you will be doing it all the time and be ready to reinstall your apps and settings.
If this is all ok to you and you have a back up phone, that you can use while you play with your TyTn, then go ahead and try the Dopod, Imate or TyTn rom. Look through the wiki and you will find all the information you need.
READ EVERYTHING FIRST, THEN START YOUR JOURNEY. The worst thing is having someone tell you "Do a search", or "RTFM", or "Read the wiki". People will respect you more and will be willing to help you more if your questions legit and the wiki can't help you out.
To start you off, I would suggest the Dopod ROM, with radio 1.16. This should take you about 1 hour to update. Then if you're not satisfied with this, then go to the TyTn or the IMate.
I hope this helps, and I have never seen anyone ask for money on here to help our fellow users and if they have, then shame on them. We are all here to learn and teach, this is what makes us a community of excellence.
I hope this helps you and many others on this board. Until the next rom, or hopefully the successful hack of the TyTn rom... Long live xda-developers!

So afaik the screen alignment can be sorted with an under warranty repair

Dear Prof, Asukal and especially Axiom:
I want to thank you for your responses. I took the plunge last night and upgraded the phone radio ROM to the Cingular 1.16 version using the instructions and files from Asukal.
There were moments of sheer terror. The ROM upload to the phone took hours. In fact, I went to sleep and let it continue through the night. But when I woke up, there was the predicted error message on the TyTN. Just as instructed, after a reset, everything worked perfectly. I will write this up more thoroughly in a day or two after I have a chance to really test the radio.
But thanks for giving me the courage to try the upgrade. I am also including a snippet from a message I received from HTC Support about the next ROM:
"There are no ROM updates available for the TyTN at present, although are actively working one to address various issue customers are experiencing.
We are expecting this to coincide with the Windows Mobile 5 AKU3 update."

ROM is version 1.18.255.3
Date:7/22/06
Radio: 1.16.00.00 (hurray)
Protocol: 32.53.7018H
ExROM: 1.18.255.106
I will give a full report on the radio tomorrow - not enough experience with it yet - and some very minor anomalies after the upgrade.
If you're experiencing shortened battery life, try changing the push email settings (active sync for the mail server) -- if you set it to other than "as they arrive" to an hour or so, for off-peak, it will really reduce the battery drain. Same with the settings for an POP3 email mailboxes -- change the polling interval to a longer duration. I've found that to be one of the biggest battery drains on my TyTN.
I've had a TyTN for more than 2 months and absolutely love it. Sold my k-jam (wizard) because I want the 3G if Cingular USA ever gets it working in my area. I've found the TyTN faster even on the EDGE network locally and better overall than my k-jam -- seems like the issues with the wizard have been largely addressed. Mind you I've never had the screen alignment problem so I can sympathize with those who do. I did switch my HTC ROM to the Imate ROM and I feel like the stability is better.
Slightly better

I think the Cingular 1.16 Radio ROM is just a bit better than the TyTN ROM that was native to my device. It seems very clear and it MAY hold the signal a bit better. My house is in a marginal area, switching constantly between GPRS and UMTS. That may make things difficult. My reception at home is clearer but about the same as my old Treo 650 in terms of maintaining a connection. The 8125 I had on trial from Cingular for a few weeks was better - but of course it had no UMTS.
Might be interesting for someone to do a hack which grabs GPRS during phone conversations in marginal areas and prevents going to UMTS during the call. ?????
I downloaded the fix4cat TyTN tweaker and set audio to "excellent." Not sure what that does, but excellent sounds good. I also enabled HSPDA, but that seems to do nothing.
Anyway I am happy.
The audible player still does not work worth beans (boohoo - their tech support is NO HELP AT ALL) and I had a really terrible experience with Chapura Pocket Mirror which I used successfully on the Treo for years. I need to synchronize public folders on my Exchange server. Any ideas? Chapura is brain dead, temporarily broke my device and made me spend hours recovering my programs and settings.
Finally - anyone ever able to get into a Cisco firewall and look at files on the company server with the VPN software in WM5??? I have tried using PPTP – no luck.
And really finally, thanks to everyone who helped. (Battery life better with push email off and TyTN magically stopped alignment drift completely and I am no longer a ROM virgin).

The story:
I just got a HD2 today, and to be honest I'm pissed.. I've been ripped off big time, the phone has a cracked screen(it said the description, but I expected something smaller), it has been taken apart and put back poorly(windows key isn't backlit anymore). Also, the LCD has 3 big white circles and the touchscreen sometimes doesn't work. Not to mention that the USB connection doesn't work(USB device not recognized), No usb modes work. Sorry about that but I had to write it, I have to let the angryness come out some way.. I demanded a refund, and he better give it to me.
OK, now about my question:
The phone has a french rom(original, not updated) and it's AZERTY keyboard. Since USB doesn't work and I can't flash updated rom without HSPL, I'm stuck with this ROM and without Android(2.04 radio (( ).
How do I change the keyboard to qwerty, in keyboard settings, there's no option to change the layout, just auto-correct and other things, but no layout option.
And I can transfer files to it, I have an X1 and I can use that to transfer files to the SD card...
Since the phone is knackered and you're demanding a refund anyway (and quite right too!!), why does it matter?
Pay a bit more and get a good condition one. If you have issues with a working phone then we can help you.

I don't think it matters if it's good or not, that's more of a software thing. Is there any cab or something to change the keyboard?
But you're returning it as damaged, so what do you care?
Seriously, from your description I wouldn't even bother turning that thing on!
A quick search (using the search) found this...

Hi,
I recently bought from a china website a star a2000 but the gps didn't worked so far, all other funcitons works fine but not the gps.
I entered in the factory mode by turning the phone pressing the buttons power + volume up. When I tested the gps I got the message gps failed! (-8).
The problem is that the phone never get the gps fix.
My colleague that bought the same phone bought the same device and when we tested the gps the issue was the same, gps failed! (-8)
We disassembled his device and in the back top of the phone where usually the devices have the gps hardware but there is nothing there.
If someone has faced an issue like this, or found an workaround, please share.

You must go outside, and wait aprox. 10 minutes. For me it worked!
Well Cristivsb, looks like you are the luck one that got the hardware inside your phone, mine a2000 so as my friend's a2000 have not gps hardware inside. I did a trip by car and put it in the console of the car with clear view of the sky, it took more than 2 hours to find satellites but nothing, that is the reason why my colleague openned his one and noticed the gps hardware was not there.
Does anyone has the same issue?
Thanks
Sorry to hear that. Can you please tell me, on the back of the phone package, it is written in English or in Chinese?
> aGPS settings > Select Profile = Google (not Nokia)
It depends which maufacturer you got it from. Looks like a lot of these Chinese manufacturers are cutting corners when putting these things together to either save money or to be able to sell them at a lower price.
There are some A2000's with capacitive screens instead of the resistive screens which is stated on the specs. And there are also some with larger capacities.
The GPS on my A2000 seems to work fine, just having some trouble with the wifi (it works, but only when it wants to) and the 3.5mm jack isn't giving stereo output.
A great phone nonetheless.
Do you mind saying where you got the phone from?
Well, I don't think it is good since mine is without god or capacitive screen. But the problem was the dealer, avoid to buy at chinabuye.com they don't care about customer complaints.
I fixed mine by replacing it by HTC Sensation, more expensive but really works.

I have the same problem!
My phone can't get an GPS fix. I tried it with the A-GPS Nokia server and the A-GPS Google server. I even tried 3rd party software.
Bought it one week ago from ebay, maybe the newer phones come without GPS hardware? I already contacted the seller, waiting for a response.
Star A2000
Hello everyone, i have Star A2000, it works great for me, wifi, gps etc are working... I want to ask is has anyone here know how to improve its performance especially in games? What about custom ROMS? Is it advisable to root this phone? i had read some articles that rooting can improve performance and battery life, can someone tell or teach me how or has someone done rooting A2000? is there a video tutorial about it??
Many thanks...
Nope, i've got a GPS receiver. But it's not very fast! A fake Sirfstar III gps module called: Sirf III. It's working
@jeymund.
I rooted my device today using: "Visionary-R14"
Use the search button on XDA and have fun.

EDIT: Ok, here is your link to download visionary: http://www.4shared.com/get/fJ_C7nEx/MoDaCo_Visionary_Plus_r14.html
1. Copy the file to the memory card of your mobile phone.
2. disconnect your phone from the PC.
3. Open file manager on your phone.
4. Go to your file and install it.
5. after installing, go to homecreen and open your menu.
6. Go to settings > applications > Development > and check "USB Debugging"
7. now again, go to homecreen and open your menu.
8. Open the visionary application in your menu.
9. Click on TEMP ROOT NOW and wait.. (Dont do anything)
10 after finishing, wait a few (10) seconds and click: "Attempt Permroot now" Now you'll see a massage. allow root acces, but within 8 seconds. (should take at least 30 sec's, but dont do anything!)
11. After auto-reboot, your phone is rooted.
is your phone also Star A2000? I'm afraid to do rooting because it might bricked the unit, what are the advantages or what have you noticed after you've rooted your A2000?
help plz
Hello, i have a qouestion, i got phone from chine, its look like replica of hTC,
i dont have any sw for him, i canot sync it with my computer because i dont have driver for usb
- i can say only that i have java , it is dual SIM mobile, 3MP kamera, FM, Bluetooth, wifii, touch screen,
on baterry and back case it writen that model is X9, but i search the web and there is no hTC model X9, i tray with chinaphonesuite, and a downloaded many driver but with no succes
so i need help plz, is there someone with similar problem !!!!!!??????
sorry for my bad english
I use Z4 for rooting A2000 and A1000 have had no problems, although some of the Mobile unlce tools (from china) do not see this as root, 99% of tools do like root explorer etc and I have had no problem - my only advice is make sure you always keep recovery or system partition working, never flash recovery then immediately install rom - always test check things out slowly so one partition can fix the other if needed.
Also the only difference between the A2000 and A1000 I know of is the touch screen A2k is resistive and A1k is capactive so the Roms will work on each other as far as I am aware but you need to keep your original kernel as that contains the driver for the touchscreen (the kernel is in the boot.ini file within the rom - so you can usually just swap the boo.ini over)

You need to go to a site i am not yet allowed to post a link to, to get software google m44 mobile uncle - use a translator to read about your x9 phone, you will need to create an account (hit use bugmenot.com) as it took me a long time to even manage to log in - you need to open one browser tab translated and one normal (so links can be clicked)
- Can an admin please remove my restrictions, I know I am new - but I know more about these phones than just about any other english speaking person I have met and can offer some supoort, roms and tools for the star a1000, a2000 and maybe shed light on the X8, A3000 and A5000. Thanks

Hi guys I have a fix for this - I am currently posting to get my level up before I make a thread covering everything I know on these phones, the roms the recovery, rooting and fixes - keep an eye out!
a2000.......in china.....why I've never heard this device......
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18046607#post18046607
improved performance?
i m planning to buy a china android phone. i read a review the A2000 has sluggish performance. does EVERYTHING works? does flashing new rom and other updates can improve its performance.
How can I take the 'Android Phone' cover off?
@ Eduardo Logan:
Please tell me how you were able to get the bottom back cover off. The one with "Android Phone" printed on it. I don't like to use a lot of force trying to pull things like this apart.
I need to take my phone apart because I have shattered the glass plate between touch digitizer and LCD...
{edit}
I found somewhere that my A2000 is similar to the A1000, but with resistive touchscreen.
This video: http://youtu.be/8fu8W3HQtSQ shows how to disassemble the A1000, but also the A2000.
{edit}
Mine also doesn't have a GPS chip, however there is already a reserved parking place for it .
The funny thing is that mine without GPS was actually more expensive than the A2000 with GPS, because the box (and Focalprice) states that it has an AMOLED screen. It really is just an ordinary LCD, so don't get fooled!
Another question: I can't seem to find a way to make a complete NAND backup, which I like to do before I start to play with the wonderful tools of Byteshertz:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18046607#post18046607
I already installed Titanium backup, but it seems to make a backup of the apps. The recovery menu only seems to allow me to restore, but not to save a backup...
How did you guys do it?
BTW: I used z4root to root the phone, which worked flawlessly, the second time...
Thanks in advance,
Hans
Hi,
just wanted to add to this thread
I just got a A2000 phone, paid 111$ USD including shipping to Canada
the screen is resistive, 800x480 (image is very nice, touch is like other resistive so not really the best but very usable once you get the feel for it)
GPS works, locked on position in seconds !
it has an antenna for some kind of TV function but all I get is static, I don't think it works with DVB but not sure
the dual sim function looks likes you have two lines on one phones, you even have separate reception quality meters
the back as a nice little flip stand so you can rest it upright on a table
it came with two batteries 3.7v 1500 mah, you have to remove the battery to change the SIMs or the microsd card which is VERY annoying
for the price it is an excellent phone, especially a business that needs smartphones to every employee
I purchased an android based car stereo a few months ago and am thinking about trying to cook a rom for it.
I am inexperienced in cooking, but am quite computer savy. Also am new to posting here, so if this is in the wrong area I apologize.
I know there isn't going to be much interest, but I thought maybe I would post some info here and see what I get. I think decks may be heading in this direction and some input would be great.
The only real downside so far to the unit is that it has a somewhat outdated os and boot time is that of a phone. So speeding up the boot time and upgrading the os would be top priority.
The deck is an Adayo AN6B01. Came stock with 2.2 froyo. I cannot post links being that I am new so here's the best I could do.
www * youtube * com/watch?v=fjz08DgQmb4
www * foryouge * com/en/products-show.asp?prid=AN6B0 Home Page for deck
I have acquired an update package from the manufacturer that can be found here

Built-in Navigation
Built-in Bluetooth (iPhone 3GS A2DP support)
DVD/VCD/CD/MP3/WMA/JPEG playback
DVD±R/DVD±RW/CD-R/RW /H.264/MPEG4 playback
4 channels × 45W MAX power output
Video Dual Zones
Multi band EQ
PLL tuner with 18FM/12AM presets
4.1 channels line-out: front, rear and subwoofer
PAL/NTSC/SECAM compatible
2× Video outputs
Rear camera input

Steering Wheel Control ready (Resistor type)
Looks pretty legit. Hope somebody helps out. I'll be in the market for a new stereo here soon.

Honestly, I like it.
When running it stock with no extra stuff installed the boot time is bearable.
I just can't help, but wanna upgrade it.
System info
Here are some screen shots from the system info
Other Names for this Unit
Just to aggregate the names that I found for this same unit over the web:
ADAYO AN6B01
AIKON AK-010A
OttoNavi K1
Nakamichi NMMC-1300
Rydeen DV621
HiTV iDroid 8000
There's a good review from Nils Schneider at (t * co/qC7uy8Lk)
On my tests Gingerbreak 1.1 or 1.2 are not able to root the unit
The unit is great, it has some minor issues on Reverse Camera Mask that I´d like to correct on Camera.apk, but seems that without root I'll not be able to reinstall the modified application.
Another issue is the 3G modem compatibility. It´s not any modem that works with it... a good reason to root the unit and check some logs...
From my experience with a similar unit from Dynavin, everything is peachy until you try to add in support for the touch screen drivers which are closed source - or at least were on my unit. This is the only thing that has halted previous attempts to upgrade to a newer version of android.

I have just ordered one of these units as a xmas prezzie from my wife..
the unit looks great , but being a rooted galaxy s3 user i am also very interested in being able to upgrade this unit
ill keep an eye on this forum and when i recieve my head unit , will post as much info as possible to try and help in any way i can
Good to see there is a thread about the radio. I wrote the review mentioned above some weeks ago.
How did you get this update to version 1.19? My dealer didn't inform me about any update. I'm just downloading and will try it out this weekend.
Hopefully I don't brick the unit, as my branding is Nakamichi.
Rooting the unit would be very nice.
I currently work on an app that listens to the iSteering events and translates them into regular media keys, a first test already succeeded.

I have a Huawei E160 here that works.
Hello Lyve,
I got my Nakamichi 1300 Android yesterday. I have made some program installations outside car and want to install it at Saturday. Do you have made the 1.19 update from K1 unit? Does it work and do you have found important chnages? Thanks for an answer.

Damn, so someone's already done it, eh? Making something like this has been on my mind for years now, and I guess I shouldn't be surprised it's already been made. I was thinking of using a nano-itx atom-based board and android on x86, but arm is so much better supported so that's good.
'Nuff about my idea, have you opened this unit up? Do you have the wifi adapter for it? I wonder if you can find any open ports by scanning that wifi adapter's IP. Maybe you could telnet to it lol. I see it has USB... do you have a USB serial dongle? There has to be some way to get an adb shell at least, I would think. I asked about opening it up because many embedded devices will have some headers on their mainboard for a serial or USB connection.
Cool stuff, let us know what else you find out about it and good luck.
Edit: I'm going to download the firmware update and see if I can find out anything from that... no promises though.
Hello tethrk,
WIFI adapter was included and works fine. I do not have opened the device because there are many warranty labels on it. I Paid 600€. When it gets defective, I do not want to have discussions with the dealer. I have no serial adapter for rooting the device, but I think this is a very interesting point. At the moment there is Android 2.2 on it. I found some apps who needs Android 4+ and can't run with 2.2. But anyway, I have installed yesterday in my car and it works really fine. One point is steering wheel control and hearing music when navigating. But I will try to make this working today. Google navigating and hearing music works, but Sygic and music not for example. Overall a nice expensive toy
Best regards
Andreas
Apparently that download contains a system image, but the filesystem used is ubifs. This means that I have to use some mtd hack to mount the image. Hopefully I can get to it tomorrow.

Hi,
I have checked the content from update 1.19. My files on device are the same date. So I have it installed in radio. I hope there comes a new update soon which I get from my dealer. Especially when the rear cam switched back and the radio traffic system switched back, I have some problems. Nomrally it should switch back to previous used source, but it does not. For example after traffic message has finished, it switch back to AUX2 but not to source I have heard before.

arriving tommorow
Well after a long nightmare getting mine through customs, it seems it will finally be in my possession tomorrow, although I am going to have to wait for an auto electrician to install it.
As said , im not into taking this unit apart due to the cost and import nightmare, however I am up for trying to help as much as i can to get this thing rooted and upgraded to JB if at all possible..
Help please

some news???
Hello everybody.
is there any news regarding the rooting of this device? I did realize that the hard reset (menu+back+power) did not work (as well as the reset button). Its hard to take the chances without having the possibility to restore the head unit to factory standards if something go wrong...
mine head unit is the AIKON AK-010a by the way.
The system seams really secured, there is no possibility even to change the dock apps. ;(
looking forward for some news.
everybody quit???
Hi guys,
lets put this thread back to live. I did find a way to receive the update data from the adayo an6b01.
Considering I do have an AIKON I would like to know how are my chances to brick the device going through the update.
I verify that some of my apks are "foryou" which are the same from the adayo.
Any tips?
Hi, I've had this unit for a few months now and I was able to root it using the z4root app that is available on the pay store. I haven't really done anything fancy except backup the files using titanium backup. I'm using the Adayo version by the way.
I too have just managed to root my device with z4 ...
I am currently working on a better launcher solution using " home simple " as a base and modifying it
Ill try and get some screens and post some stuff up tommorow...
Im really pleased this has rooted ok... now its time to mod the hell out of it
