I only received my phone last weds and it was running 2.3.3 and I upgraded to 2.3.4 over the weekend then found out that 2.3.5 was out, I was just wondering can I upgrade without losing all my data and apps?
Also which is the safest way to upgrade and from what link?
I am on Orange UK tariff.
Thanks
Yeah you can just head to this thread

and download the KI3 one, make sure you download the package that says non-wipe and just flash it with odin and you should be good

You can do it if you're not rooted and I'm not sure about your warranty but I think i this doesn't do anything to it, not sure though. To make sure everything is ok you could use a usb jig to reset the binary counter to 0

Do you think it's worth upgrading to 2.3.5
The problem I had with my phone was the phone got very hot on the first day of using it and I read that 2.3.4 cooled the phone down, not sure if it's true or if 2.3.5 does anything to help

Users are pretty consistently reporting improved battery, better sound, speed.
I'm one of those. I'd say yes, do the upgrade, if any of those sound interesting to you. You could always flash back to another version if you don't like it.
Sorry but does anyone know which one I should download without rooting ande which wont wipe my data?

XXKI3
Android 2.3.5
This original (unmodified) Wipe Package with new bootloader has: PDA: XXKI3| Modem/phone: XXKI3| CSC: OXAKI3
Download: http://www.multiupload.com/NJV6PR87Y3
These packages have the new bootloader removed and repacked with the old ones so you can safely reset the binary counter with a Jig.
If you've already flashed a full package from elsewhere and cannot reset your binary counter using the Jig just flash this package in the PDA or Bootloader (Yes both will work) section of Odin to replace the bootloaders and then you can reset the counter:http://www.multiupload.com/LQQBRQVJUD

Is the frankenstein version the same, I cant see any difference?
Anything I should notice?
Glad you got it!!! (Did it work the way I hoped?)
You probably wont notice any visual changes as such.
Remember, you installed a no wipe version so you will still have the same theme (If you applied any), or wiill still look "Stock".
Changes, if any, maybe more on performance. Keep an eye on battery usage and maybe just general speed of the device.

I normally flash roms at 100% to avoid throwing off the battery calibration. Give it some time, drain the phone and charge it back to 100. It will slow down unless the reason is due to a rogue app.

And in odin I have ticked:
Re-partition
Auto reboot
F. Reset Time
Phone Bootloader Update... (This should update the bootloader, shouldent it??)

From what i have seen for flashing through ODIN, they always mention that re-partition should not be checked. Dont' know why but i guess probably that may have messed up something on the phone. Please google to find out what re-partition does.

Do you have backuped your /EFS folder or not?
We recived it in this condetion... It was already f***** when we started playing arround with it
well considering my un-flashed (freshly unboxed untouched after 2 day usage) S2 managed to lose its IMEI all by itself (showing exactly what you're being shown now), this is entirely a Samsung fault.
I gave it at a local service center and it took them a few days to repair it. They said they had to replace the motherboard and re-flash it (the original mobo wasnt taking flashes apparently).
Dont know if this helps ya.
First off: Stay faaar away from the "Repartition" tickbox.
Sounds like the EFS partition is messed up, without a (working) backup of it, there isn't much that can be done, I think.
Try flashing one of the _user_low stock ROMs (without repartition!) those contain pretty much every part that can/should be flashed.
Maybe this helps.
If not, send it in for repair.
Could you please give me a link to such a ROM ?

No, SuperOneClick doesn't work on a stock ROM, that's right.
Download Chainfire's CF-Root kernel for XXKG2 and flash it too.

But if it would be great if anyone knows which firmwares have pit file. Maybe I have made a mistake while re-partition my i9100 and now I want to re-partition it again by stock firmware, hopefully could file my imei back.
Ok so i've returned my phone to stock firmware, which is 02 branded KF3. Kies reads my phone as PDA:KF3 / PHONE:KE7 / CSC:KJ1 (FOP). It initially said KG2 for CSC but i've changed it thinking this was my problem.
Anyway enough blabbering. My problem is kies wont update, it says this version of the device cannot be updated. Any ideas what i need to do next?

Hi,
This might be a stupid question but which is the most stable GB stock ROM available out there as per your opinion? and what is the harm in installing a ROM with different CSC as to yours current?
Does doing a factory reset after installing a ROM, removes all the settings from your old ROM ? as in is it like a format on a PC?
Thanks in advance.

This is TOTALLY subjective, as you yourself stated with "as per your opinion", and usually starts a bunch of arguments. Which is why these threads tend to get closed. I expect this one to get closed shortly.

You probably won't get updates via Kies anymore, if you were ever able to in the first place.

A "factory reset" essentially restores the last ROM you flashed to how it was the moment you flashed it.
EDIT to add: to the above factory reset question... it does remove all user installed apps and data too though. So it is KIND OF like a PC format, but not exactly.

Hi thanks for the reply. No i don't want to start a long thread of debates what i meant was, is the latest GB 2.3.6 better and more stable than the 2.3.5? The reason i asked about the CSC was coz 2.3.6 is not available for my region so was wondering if it is more stable than 2.3.5 i would upgrade it!

I'm still on XXKI3, which is 2.3.5. It's perfectly stable for me. CSC only matters if you want releases through Kies. If you want to continue to receive Kies updates, then don't change anything. Otherwise, you can flash whatever CSC you want.

No. Kies updates are non-wipe, which means it won't touch the data partition, where your apps live.

.tar with code/PDA in the name is the PDA part of the firmware package

no need to worry, any FW package you download should contain these 3 files, to select from respective sections of the ODIN
or all these in a single TAR file to select from PDA.

You've for sure got an I9100, right?
USUALLY, full firmwares are all inclusive. So they will contain modem and CSC already. So you just put it into the PDA field in Odin and leave everything else alone.
You only put modem and CSC in if the package you put in PDA doesn't have them already, or you want to overwrite the ones that are already in a package.
Make sure you don't re-partition, or include a .PIT file unless you REALLY need to, the .PIT file is FOR SURE INTENDED FOR YOUR MODEL OF PHONE, and you know what you are doing. Flashing a .PIT file for a different model of phone will completely hard-brick your phone, and there won't be anything you can do to recover it yourself unless you get your own JTag box. Otherwise, it will have to go to Samsung or a service point that has JTag.

Hello xda-developers this it my first post, but it will be more and I will try to help you.
I have a SGS2, bought from Romania, but the CSC code is "XEF" which probably means that it was imported form France. Now I want to change my CSC in "HAT" or "COA" according to my country but I don't want to lose my warranty.
1) There is any method to do this?
2) If I will find the CSC files, flashing only this with Odin is possible and if yes I lose my warranty? I only flashed AIO or PDA,CSC,BOOT files in the mean time on my second phone,Samsung i5700, but never only one of those.
I tried with CSC Selector from Play and with Preconfig code, but my phone have no Multi-CSC, it have only "XEF".
My SGS2 informations:
PDA: I9100XWKJ2
PHONE: I9100XXKJ4
CSC I9100XEFKJ1
Thank you very much for your answers and sorry for my bad English
no need to change it unless you need something specific in that csc.

Just flash XWLP8 Frankenstein with Odin. Kies is a complete piece of crap. Uninstall it right now and just leave the samsung usb drivers.
The aforementioned package already includes everything you need... and it's official... and it's newer than the package you are planning to flash ; )

Go into settings->about phone and write down what you have now.
Worst case IF you ever really need to get warranty just flash this package...
End of story. The link I gave you gives you the newest official ICS rom, non-rooted. It doesn't increase the custom binary counter (that's how they check if you messed with your phone) and it is official. Just flash it.
Ok, I didn't know that I can put the phone into download mode and flash a new firmware without increase the counter, thx

The only thing that increases the counter is flashing specifically a kernel via Odin that is not signed by Samsung.
This is why flashing some ROMs won't necessarily increase the counter: If you flash a ROM that includes a kernel that is signed by Samsung, it will keep the counter at zero.

Should be fine. But the link isn't broken, per se. Just right-click it, and "save link as". That will save the .7z file to wherever you want.

That kernel is posted just in case you need it, if you flash a custom or insecure kernel, and want to flash back to stock. If you don't flash a custom of insecure kernel, you won't need it. Wouldn't hurt you to download it anyways though, again, just in case you need it later.
Ok, thank you ... And, only to be sure, this version will not count in download mode in case I have to sent the phone to sercice, no?

As I said above, it will not. The firmware has a kernel signed by Samsung in it.

When you go into Download mode, it will display a count if you have ever flashed a non-Samsung signed kernel. If you have never done so, it will not display a count at all.

You'll have to install CWM recovery to do this... which means flashing a kernel NOT signed by Samsung, which means increasing your counter.

EDIT:
It worked, thank you all
Hi everyone,
I’m new to this forum and not an expert in android but i really need your help so i’ll try to make this post the best i can. Last week I bought a galaxy s2 unlocked but unfortunately it was rooted and with a leaked rom of android 4.0.3 (XXLPH), I wanted to return it to stock so I followed this tutorial (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1650919) and also did this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22669088#post22669088) because my lockscreen wasn’t working. But now I am having some troubles:
-Sometimes (today was the third time this week) I lose service and mi imei doesn’t appear when I type *#06#, also it says base band “unknown” in settings but it’s strange because if I remove the battery and put it back again everything works fine again. Does this have to do with my EFS folder? Is there a way to check if it’s corrupted?
-When I connect it to the pc and open kies, it says:
“Your device’s current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies.
Current firmware version: PDA:LPZ / PHONE:LPH /CSC:LP5 (XXX)”
I thought it was the csc but I checked using *#272*IMEI# and it says “Sales Code: ARO” which I think it’s correct because I’m in Argentina, I also used a code to check the PCode (not this one *2767*4387264636# because it didn’t work, I can’t remember which one) and it said “PCode: NOT ACTIVE” do you think that’s the problem?
Also in settings my serial number shows “00000000” I don’t know if this is related but I’m trying to give you all the information I can.
Sorry if my English is not the best but I speak Spanish, I’m trying to do my best. Any help will be really appreciated!

Anyone? Please help!
Easy now.....
First off, you're up for some reading.
1- Brick bug.
2- Flashing (Odin / Mobile Odin).
3- Rooting.
4- EFS Folder.
Once you've done all that you can look for any of these Stock ROMs here.
When you are all done reading and you still wanna flash your device, let us know.
Saludos.

you can start by checking if you got the brick bug, since you are on 4.0.4, with got brickbug app.
If you have an insane chip, flash siyah kernel via odin / mobile odin.
What ROM you wanna flash?
Download hc ktool from store, so you can back up EFS folder.

Ok, so I installed the emmc brickbug app and it says I have an insane chip.
Now I have to root it like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719 so I can backup my EFS folder with hc ktool, is this correct? I don’t want to do anything stupid.
Should I also check the memory blocks with the brick bug app?
I would like to flash this rom
I9100UHLPS
Base Firmware: I9100UHLPS (4.0.3)
Region: South America
Country Argentina
Carrier: Unbranded
Build Date: 12 June 2012
Modem: UHLPG
CSC: AROLP4
Change List: 709483
Is it necessary to flash siyah kernel? I would like it to be 100% stock.
You have to flash siyah in order to avoid the brick bug.
Once you flash it you'll be off the hook and flash anything you want.
Don't you wanna try official jelly bean? Don't worry about you being in argentina, it'll work just fine.
You could flash siyah via mobile odin, no brick risk involved.
Sent from the little guy
Ok but what should i do first?
root and backup efs? or just flash siyah?
I don't know how to flash siyah with odin, can I do it with cmw recovery?
Sorry for all these questions but I'm really scared

Siyah will get you rooted, then you can go backing things up, like EFS.
Watch some youtube vids first, just type i9100 siyah.
After that, get back here and read a thing or two about flashing and stuff at the Q&A section and the guides posted above.
One more thing, enter *#06# in the dialer and see if the imei number matches the imei number below the battery.
Sent from the little guy
Yes, I entered *#06# and the imei number is the same as the one on the back of the battery.
All right I just flashed siyah kernel and did a backup of my EFS folder with hc kTool.
The brickbug check app keeps telling me I have an insane chip, is that ok?
A yellow triangle now appears when I turn on the phone, I guess I'll have to use the triangleaway app am I correct?
What's next?

You can go on and flash JB now
