[Q] Few Question on SGS2 white... Need answers buying in few hours.. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am planning to get White SGS2... looks sexy... but few questions come in my mind
1) is it sim unlockable like black one? I am getting a UK locked one so I have to factory unlock it.
2) All custom roms like villian etc etc can be flashed on white one too.. right? I really dont wanna miss any custom rom..
need answer quickly.. buying it in few hours..

It's exactly the same hardware as the black version, so you can ignore the colour when looking to root, unlock & flash.

hey thanks... I am getting it but its a non refundable deal... I dont want to get stuck on a Locked set with no custom roms...
Must be damn sure... I saw some review on Android market about white one not unlocking with Sim unlocker by chainfire3d

please tell me too if I unlock it whilst its usong 2.3.3 and I flash a CFW or flash an updated 2.3.4 or 2.3.5.. will this Relock the sgs2 or it will remain unlocked forever?

Unlocked is unlocked. As for it not unlocking with the Chainfire app, I've not heard of that and have seen people on here say they have used it. I bet the person who had a problem wasn't rooted.

thanks once again... I am gettng my hands on white one. I had actually two options.. either to get a black or white but some stupid reviewer said white is different and wont utilize custom roms of black one.. that really scared me...
so unlocking is permanent... thats great news...

haha thanks.. hope that TOY was not referring to White color...
the white color looks sexy but really I am concerned that after 2-3 months it will get that brownish dust like color.. Black seems more scratch resistant...
Anyone using white gs2 can comment on it?

I recently got one from O2 and was advised that only PAYG phones are locked. All contract phones from O2 come unlocked. I checked mine with a Vodafone sim and sure enough it worked.
Mines white but I've only had it for 5 days so no colour issues. Assuming its in a pouch or decent case I can't see there being any issues.

Of course not mate. They're just toys, not necessities.

Sorry guys I went there and didn't like the GS2...... It was really not impressive for the price tag... No offence to gs2 users...
got the Sensation instead... I m happy with it but its not very good at places where there is low network signal and battery dies damn too quick... Nonstop 4 hrs wifi ney browsing have me only 4.5 hrs only... I have to charge it twice daily...

There is no difference between black and white X01HT - only the color.
Only the challange that White's virginity yet have to be taken makes them different...

There IS NO DIFFERENCE from black and white x01ht! But, there is new series, "March Edition" x01ht, now with white option...
It's same phone with refreshed OS ROM and new radio-bootloader! This radio-bootloader is probably the reason why it can't be unlocked yet...

This issue plaque some batch of febuary 2007 manufactured.
so I guess that the new xo1ht, April release, can be flashed to English! And the radio too? Is it that you can't unlock it?

i'm kinda new at this whole thing too, but if i understand correctly, yes, you can flash an english ROM if first you flash Olipro's Hard-SPL to bypass the CID check (no need for permanent Super-CID)... but as for the latest X01HT's radio, there's nothing that can be done to alter this at the moment, so the phone can't be sim unlocked.
so english, yes. radio, no. sim-unlock, no.
i just got my X01HT a few days ago too with softbank's dreaded 1.14.01.10 radio and hoping for some breakthrough with that soon.
it's a pain in the ass living Japan sometimes. There's nothing for us English speakers. So if you can't flash the radio, can you still use the phone?

a pain indeed it can be. i love complaining about it! yes, you can still use the phone. i'm managing with mine. i haven't decided to switch over to an english OS or do any tampering with it until i'm completely clear on what voids the warranty and what doesn't. but even without all the fun cool hacking stuff, i must say i really like the phone. so far, i'm satisfied. and with the potential of unlocking, i can only guess it will get better.
keep me posted! I bricked my one and have sent it back to softbank to get fixed. That was a Dec 2nd phone. Don't ask me what I did wrong but I wonder if they'll upgrade it when they're fixing it. That's why I'm asking these questions. I'll let you know next week when I get it back!

[Q] Black into White

Hello,
Today, I am not happy. 2.1 is delayed yaddy yaddy ya.
But I am stuck with the phone until mid-2012 so I may as well get what I want from it.
Sadly I was stuck with T-Mobile when I got the phone and due to this I have the "Sensuous Black" version of the phone.
I did really want the white one so does anyone know were I can get OEM white casing from? Or even a bricked White Xperia X10
(I will probably see a lot of white xperia's on ebay within the next... hour but they will still probably be overpriced even when no one wants them haha)
Thanks in advance.

I think that is the tope bit I am talking about, after looking at a disassembly guide

White vs. Brushed back, better chance to find unlocked w/ white?

I assume the difference between the two backs is purely cosmetic. Seems the white ones were made first? Would there be a better chance of finding a white back unlocked vs a brushed one?
Thanks
I have the Grey one that I just bought 2 days ago from Staples. 16 GB and it is unlocked.
locked or unlocked doesnt really matter, since you can flash and kernel ect with locked bootloader tab
what else do you need ?!
Hello,
Just a question, ... how do you know if Gtab 10.1 is lock or unlock ?

When booting up the screen shows Galaxy Tab 10.1 and at the very bottom center of the screen there's an image of an unlocked lock. If the bootloader IS locked you will not see any lock when booting.
In my experiences, the 16gb gray tab I got first from Best Buy had a locked bootloader. An identical model of the same color i bought on eBay WAS unlocked. I bought the one from Best Buy only because i was too impatient to wait on the eBay one to come in the mail. I never planned on keeping both since i got the one on eBay $50 cheaper. And when i discovered the unlocked bootloader I was even happier. So the one from Best Buy went back the next day after i flashed my CWM backup from it to the other one.
Do we need to unlock the bootloader to run roms
I got both white 32GB and black 16GB from BestBuy and they are both unlocked.
I understand that both can be rooted and CWM can be used and they will work the same, but of course I would love to get one that is unlocked. Why? I have no real reason, just because.
Do I want to go through the hassle of returning it? Probably not, but I have 12 more days to decide and to see if anything is actually wrong with it. Like I said in a previous thread, my luck I would return a perfect one that is locked for a not so perfect locked or if I am lucky an unlocked one that has problems.
My 16gb silver back is from Staples and its locked, man I wish they pulled a different box for me!

No, you just root (takes 2min) and load a ROM with Rom Manager for example.

basically a ROM contains the OS of a device, it may be more or less modified...

You have to get lucky to get an unlocked tab. So maybe try cregs list or something were they know their tab is unlocked if u want 1 that bad. Otherwise just root ur locked tab.
so once it is rooted, it is unlocked? i rooted mine the minute i got home.
What is the difference this is my first android tablet and you can flash even if its locked. I found mibe is unlocked and its brushed

Nope, totally different things. Rooted means you (and programs you permit) can run as the "superuser" (aka "su") in unix-speak, allowing you access to certain otherwise unavailable system functions such as the ability to mount the system folders on your device and make changes to them.

The bootloader is the code that runs when your device is first powered, even before it runs the normal OS, recovery, or anything else. It's like the BIOS on a PC. The bootloader can also apply update files to the system. This can include custom ROMs and system updates. If the bootloader is locked, however, this function is unavailable to the user.
Fortunately for you folks with locked bootloaders, there are other ways to flash our Tabs, such as ODIN and nvflash. They essentially do the same thing, i.e., allow you apply updates to your system including custom ROMs. So there's probably no big difference for owners of locked devices as long as the updates and ROMs they want to use are made available in the appropriate format by the devs.
I feel like my brushed metallic tab is heavier than the white one I had? Am I insane or anyone else think this?
Basically I bought one from BB because I was too impatient to wait a week until I ordered one off amazon with giftcards for ALOT cheaper.
after I returned the white tab (with extreme ease actually, no questions asked about the used tab) and opened the brushed metallic, I SWEAR and even now holding it that it is heavier.
Im probably crazy, because Im sure it has to be made of the same materials.
Also both my white and brushed tabs were both locked.

I had both a white and a metal Tab at the same time. They weigh the same.
Perhaps your metal Tab has more GBs? Greater number of installed programs? More music loaded? These would all cause it to be heavier, of course.

[Q] Currently unlockable bootloaders

For us with currently unlockable bootloaders (branded phones), will removing the sim-lock give us the option to unlock the bootloader?
No
That was a definitive answer. Strange, cause I know people with unlockable bootloaders in their Arcs and Rays have managed to unlock them.

Slightly worried about getting the phone from Rogers here. Hopefully the Sony store will have a working unit so I can enter the command into the dialer to see if I can easily unlock it or not.

Currently there is no way to root without unlocking the bootloader, it will probably come at some point, but not now .
There is no drawback to unlocking your bootloader though, as they will still probably accept your device for warranty, unless you fry your phone with overclocking and such.
But yea, branded phones cant be unlocked at this moment, or well, they haven't figured it out yet. So if you are branded you can't even unlock your bootloader...yet . Give it time, everything will be figured out in time .

I am under the impression that selling it in the Canadian Sony store means it will not be branded for any carrier, since they'll be offering the phone unlocked. Probably even if they offer it on contract with a carrier like Rogers, it would still be unlocked, but just subsidized with your contract plan.
edit: They did say that the phone is exclusively with the Sony Store in Canada, so you can't get it straight from Rogers anyways, so no worries!
If there is brand in rogers, I am pretty sure they will lock the bootloader just like they did in xperia arc
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
Bought mine from the sony store locked to rogers. I can confirm that the bootloader are in fact locked. Bought mine at launch early tuesday morning.(12th)
They currently only sell XpS's locked to rogers. They unfortunately don't sell the unbranded version(/unlocked). They were also surprised by this fact apparently.
BTW the rogers bloatware that came with the device is annoying as hell. If you're going to buy on frim the Sony store in canada. Debranding would be the first thing I would suggest to do. Seeing as rooting or custom roming is out of the question.

Have to admit that i'm a little disappointed i got my phone as soon as it was released on my neywork.
That was before the information came to light, that branded fw's have their bootloaders locked.
Had i known that BEFORE i took the plunge, i would have upgraded via a third party mobile phone shop.
I am even more disappointed to see custom roms and tweaks coming out, only to find myself unable to go anywhere near them. Grrrr!
I have de-branded my Xps but i still have the bloat-crap on it. Which is now filling the ten whole spaces in my main menu.
I have been checking on here everyday hoping for a root solution and also on the omnius and setool sites but still i am without a solution :-( and my biggest concern of all is...
As most the devs and rom chefs have unlocked bootloaders, that means hardly anyone (if anyone) will be working on a solution. Double :-(

I hear you bro
Don't worry, it will come
I have faith in this community that something will be figured out. A few weeks ago it wasn't even possible to flash custom kernels and such, and they managed to figure it out. Now that things are flowing nicely, the rom developers have started working on making things again, and maybe there's more things being looked into in terms of rooting.
I've been here since my X1 and the community hasn't let me down yet, I'm confident they will find a way to get a root, and probably (given the speed even a tester CM9 came out) before ICS.
I guess you might have wait for those paid software like setool .... It will be like the same case like xperia arc. Rogers or any branded phone do not allow bootloader unlock.

My XS was locked to Orange UK 10 minutes back. Bootloader unlockable - No.
Got the code from Orange and phone unlocked to any network now.
Imagine my surprise when I saw this: Bootloader unlockable - Yes
Talk about double bonus
Too bad the phone is going to Sony on Monday for the yellow screen issue.

Interesting... I'm a bit skeptical though...

Yeah, I can't take the plunge and use this phone as my daily driver. Not with Timescape (or whatever you call the Sony UI). I want to be able to use AOSP apps. What I hate is when the UI elements creep over when you're using an app (stuff like checkboxes) and it just makes the overall experience feel inconsistant.
I have since buying the phone debranded it and flashed the singpore rom, and it does a good job at eliminating bloatware, but I want to go in deeper and install CM9 whenever that's ready.
The phone does have what looks like the test point connections, I wanted to mess around with them but I didn't have the proper screws to remove the battery cover. Anyone know what the size of the screws are so I can get a screwdriver that fits?

If you could have done the test point process, I'm sure it would already be posted here. It's quite possible there will be some type of testpoint exploit in the future.. But as of now not the case. I wouldnt suggest messing around inside your phone unless your ready to void your warrenty and at least somewhat know what your doing.
Who knows you could be some secret dev-ninja-genius. ...but then again your asking about screwdriver sizes instead of just eyeballing it like most people would do, so I very much doubt that bro.
Just my 2 cents.

I know you were just trying to be mindfull of what happens to my phone and stuff, but if I "eyeballed" the size what good would it do if I don't have a small enough bit to fit the screw? I was able to remove the frearson screws but am missing the torx.
A test point method is still possible (maybe) but the reason that there are no posts about it is that the software used (Omnius, SEtools, etc) is not yet compatible with the XS.
Im toooo interested too, my phone has bootloader blocked for my phone company, so I cant get root or do anything
Im waiting, I hope too much they find a solution soon !

Hey guys so I got my phone today brand new and when I hold it at an angle it looks like there are about 8 spots on the screen that are nothing but white regardless of the background. Idk too much about screens but I'm sure its NOT supposed to be like this. I didn't get a warranty for the phone yet, but I was wondering if there was any suggestions for what I should do. I haven't even had this phone for a day yet

well depends on were you bought the phone...
if at Verizon, bring it back to Verizon.
even if you bought the phone from Verizon online, phone, store, etc. you are covered by Verizon.
If you bought it outside Verizon, then you need to check if there's a return on that like ebay, some buyers will give like a 3 day return or something like that, if that's the case make sure you get a new one.
Either way wherever you bought the phone you need to talk to them..
This phone hasn't popped up with many problems (yet) .
The Rezound would heat up on me and many other things, but the inc4 is very solid IMO
hope you get yourself a fresh one
Thanks boss I'll check with best buy tomorrow they have a 30 day return policy
