Android 2.3.7 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So... Besides the NFC wallet thing, what other new stuff and bugfixes are there in the new Android versiom? Anybody know?
(I mean, I know that there's a ton of new little features and bugfixes in every point release, that only developers tend to know and find out about.)
You think we can expect some upgrades to it, or will HTC&co go straight to 4.0?

I first read about it on ,Engadget, I think it was. It's hardly a secret dude

Now Android 4.0 is coming.

I hope its legit to! I see Android advancing alot in the near future. Can't wait to see all the goodies coming. I sure wish I got into Android a long time ago, but gotta start some where I guess.

Hello OP, indeed happy to be at 2.3.7
I follow the changelog around CM7 which can be found at:

[Q] ICS The sourcecode, WHEN?

Hello!
I got very excited when I saw yesterdays presentation of android 4.0 too.
But it keeps me wondering when we'll see the sourcecode being published.
So my question is does anyone have any idea whatsoever about when we can expect the android 4.0 sourcecode?
How did that go with gingerbread, how long did it take for them to release the sourcecode of that?
Thnks!
most likely around the same time as galaxy nexus is released
IIRC 2.3 source code release was about two weeks after the 2.3 release.

Great thanks for the infos.
: )
you can expect to see devs working feverishly to get rooted recovery zips posted as soon as there is a proper dump, as well....so at least you may be able to use bare-bones vanilla ICS soon If you've got a nexus you'll have it almost immediately!
yep iam trying to repo sync it but nothing is happening yet....
too bad i really wanted to build it today.
7:24AM Well, he said that they'll open-source it "a couple of weeks" after it lands on the Galaxy Nexus in November, so shortly after that. Probably before Christmas, if we had to guess.

Will the Gtab 10.1 run ICS?

The title says it all. Will the Gtab 10.1 run ICS?
At some point yes.

One would think so considering how new it is and it's pretty much the flagship of Samsung's tablet line. But that's just my humble opinion (and lets face it: my hope as well.)
Only wish though that Sammy wouldn't skin it with it's horrible looking overlay!!! Guess I might as well wait for CM9 or another ROM to come out that's vanilla ICS.
The answer is "absolutely, yes." The only real question is "when will google release the source code."...
Yeah, we want all the source. I love my Samsung - Tab and SGS I9000

SGS2 to get ICS Jan 2012?

Take this with a pinch of salt as it's far from official but:
Gaurav Hasabnis, an industry analyst and contributing editor of Fonearena.com posted on Twitter: “Something gonna come in Jan 2012. #sgs2 users gonna rejoice!”, followed by a second tweet: “Soon Mali400 gonna be in full use.”
The mentioned Mali 400 is the name of the GPU on the Samsung Galaxy S II. Rumors states Ice Cream Sandwich will utilize the the full potential of high-end smartphones better than previous Android OS, which leads us to believe that the ICS will be making its way to the Galaxy S2.

If they won't release it officially, I'm sure we'll get a custom rom with 4.0 running as soon as the Galaxy Nexus is launched But good news, anyway!
Just think. If it's January 'officially,' then it could be December (or earlier) for us!
That's a great news. Though I think we'll get ICS unofficially before that. Anyone?

Didn't Samsung drop development of 2.3.4 as they started 2.3.5
I still haven't got any official updates from 2.3.3 on a SIM free handset here in the UK.
Samsung UK have also tweeted that there is no time frame for getting ICS on the SGSII (read in to that what you want)
Think custom roms will be the only way forwards on ICS for some time.
Well that announcement is about Official release, NOT unofficial one. 70% users use Official ROM and like them, existing use this and that. Without a Stock ROM there won't be any Custom ROMs? Would there be?
Count me in those 70%.
We'll sure have some custom rom runnig ICS before the official one but I wonder what they'll do about touchwizz...
Looking forward to it

look at dalingrin's twitter for updates.
If you're wondering about ICS on the touchpad...look at dalingrin's twitter posts.
If you're looking for CM9, all i know is they've released a pre-alpha version of the launcher from CM9 for Devices with ICS....how far that puts them down the line to finishing it? I do not know but i'm waiting too (impatiently)
Here is the official source of CM news:

I would imagine any general news on CM9 will be all over once its out. I saw the news on the launcher in at least 3 different sites within hours of the announcement.

I like how that was worded, it is truly rough. Phone versions of android do work on tablets but its clearly wrong.

Agreed Leo and Scott are doing a great job at developing cm7/MIUI to work on a tablet as best it can.. But it is almost a lost cause since ics is already on a lot of devices....
I'm sure modifying a kanged ROM is a lot easier than making a port/SDK ROM as a lot of the drivers have to be made from scratch... I've given up on android on the TP till ICS. When that happens ill donate a handsome reward to the team that does it.. till then... WebOS will have to do... As I only use it for media/web I'm good for now... I have a EVO 3d for apps and such that android excels in...

@dalingrin I know you don't give ETAs on anything, but is the ICS build anywhere close to GB Alpha 1? Thanks.
@dalingrin:
@SyncV2 Primary issues are GPU rendering under some circumstances and video playback. Hope to finally get back to working on it tonight.

Confirmed Jelly Bean update and ETA for SGPT111US/S!

So I emailed Sony today asking if there was any new information available concerning an Android Jelly Bean 4.1/4.2 update for the original Sony Tablet S, model number SPGPT111US/S, and they replied with this: "I'm glad to inform you that the Android 4.1, Jelly Bean Update is scheduled for release in the second week of Feb 2013. The update will be available very soon and you will be notified with the notifier in the Tablet." If you don't believe me, email them yourself, and I can upload a screenshot if you would like. But I do swear that this is the response I received, and while I wish the update would come sooner, I'm very glad we Tablet S owners finally have A) An actual confirmation that we will be receiving JB for sure and B) A somewhat concrete release date. February seems so far away...
Cheers!

For starters it is not the 4th **** up of ICS
Also it is something NEW
February is a considerably long distance away when you consider when JB first came out.
In my view, it was a revolution in android software. Google Now, Project Butter, its enough to make any device sell.
Wonder if this is the same as the XXperia Tab that was promised in 2012.

Please try not to spoil the joyus mood here. If you dont like people squeaking information regarding jb updates then dont enter threads such as this one. Whats good aboyt something new? It might have a new kernel or something we can work around to unlock the boot loader or have a work recovery with adb function orsome eye candies or better stuufs. Btw i tried an unofficial 4.1 on galaxy ace and it was hell a lot more better and fluid than 4.0
Well, in russian 4pda news about JB for SPGT11* was posted in september or early, but thanks, now we know the date.
The only thing that spoils my mood about this thing - obviously sony will include new recovery in JB update, and it's no good for users who wants to have an ability to flash their tablets with some tools like AiO... And I pretty sure that release of JB for my SPGT114RU/S (16+3G) will come with some kind of delays... Eh, never mind.
I hope this comes to the UK.

Lol what's your deal man? In my opinion Jelly Bean has been the most important update to Android yet, as it brings Android up to the smoothness level of iOS and also matches Siri with Google now. "I doubt its gonna bring anything amazing to yhe table why are ppl so obsessed with updates": First of all, do you know anything about Jelly Bean? Yeah. It brings A LOT to the table. And secondly, I am not obsessed with updates. However, I do like having the latest version of Android. If you're one of those people that can feel fine about being stuck in Android 2.3, then all the more power to you. But I'm just not that way, and there's nothing wrong with that. Besides, why are you replying to this thread if you don't care? Seems like you've got too much time on your hands.
Having used the nexus s and now on a galaxy nexus, I can testify to how great an improvement jb is over ics. Much smoother and a good sized improvement in battery life, even when using generic AOSP builds. I do hope Sony gives 4.2a thought though... there's lots of tablet only features that would be a good fit for this device, particularly while the nexus 10 remains hard to get.
