Will the Gtab 10.1 run ICS? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The title says it all. Will the Gtab 10.1 run ICS?

At some point yes.
sent from Tapatalk App

One would think so considering how new it is and it's pretty much the flagship of Samsung's tablet line. But that's just my humble opinion (and lets face it: my hope as well.)
Only wish though that Sammy wouldn't skin it with it's horrible looking overlay!!! Guess I might as well wait for CM9 or another ROM to come out that's vanilla ICS.

The answer is "absolutely, yes." The only real question is "when will google release the source code."...

Yeah, we want all the source. I love my Samsung - Tab and SGS I9000

Android 2.3.7

So... Besides the NFC wallet thing, what other new stuff and bugfixes are there in the new Android versiom? Anybody know?
(I mean, I know that there's a ton of new little features and bugfixes in every point release, that only developers tend to know and find out about.)
You think we can expect some upgrades to it, or will HTC&co go straight to 4.0?

SGS2 to get ICS Jan 2012?

Take this with a pinch of salt as it's far from official but:
Gaurav Hasabnis, an industry analyst and contributing editor of Fonearena.com posted on Twitter: “Something gonna come in Jan 2012. #sgs2 users gonna rejoice!”, followed by a second tweet: “Soon Mali400 gonna be in full use.”
The mentioned Mali 400 is the name of the GPU on the Samsung Galaxy S II. Rumors states Ice Cream Sandwich will utilize the the full potential of high-end smartphones better than previous Android OS, which leads us to believe that the ICS will be making its way to the Galaxy S2.

Thank you for the heads up. Hope GS2 will not take a long time to upgrade like the Samsung did for Galaxy S.
seems to match up with this
http://www.lifeofandroid.com/news_detail/ice-cream-sandwich-to-debut-on-android-handsets-in-weeks/
The worldwide release of Android 4.0 will begin in time for Christmas with Google’s Nexus S smartphone meaning the new OS should be broadly available for all compatible handsets by early 2012.

They hvn't even released the 2.3.4 update in India.Jan 2012 s too early a date for us i guess .

If they won't release it officially, I'm sure we'll get a custom rom with 4.0 running as soon as the Galaxy Nexus is launched But good news, anyway!
Just think. If it's January 'officially,' then it could be December (or earlier) for us!
That's a great news. Though I think we'll get ICS unofficially before that. Anyone?

Didn't Samsung drop development of 2.3.4 as they started 2.3.5
I still haven't got any official updates from 2.3.3 on a SIM free handset here in the UK.
Samsung UK have also tweeted that there is no time frame for getting ICS on the SGSII (read in to that what you want)
Think custom roms will be the only way forwards on ICS for some time.
Well that announcement is about Official release, NOT unofficial one. 70% users use Official ROM and like them, existing use this and that. Without a Stock ROM there won't be any Custom ROMs? Would there be?
Count me in those 70%.
We'll sure have some custom rom runnig ICS before the official one but I wonder what they'll do about touchwizz...
Looking forward to it

look at dalingrin's twitter for updates.
If you're wondering about ICS on the touchpad...look at dalingrin's twitter posts.
If you're looking for CM9, all i know is they've released a pre-alpha version of the launcher from CM9 for Devices with ICS....how far that puts them down the line to finishing it? I do not know but i'm waiting too (impatiently)
Here is the official source of CM news:
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/
I would imagine any general news on CM9 will be all over once its out. I saw the news on the launcher in at least 3 different sites within hours of the announcement.

I like how that was worded, it is truly rough. Phone versions of android do work on tablets but its clearly wrong.

Agreed Leo and Scott are doing a great job at developing cm7/MIUI to work on a tablet as best it can.. But it is almost a lost cause since ics is already on a lot of devices....
I'm sure modifying a kanged ROM is a lot easier than making a port/SDK ROM as a lot of the drivers have to be made from scratch... I've given up on android on the TP till ICS. When that happens ill donate a handsome reward to the team that does it.. till then... WebOS will have to do... As I only use it for media/web I'm good for now... I have a EVO 3d for apps and such that android excels in...

@SyncV2 Primary issues are GPU rendering under some circumstances and video playback. Hope to finally get back to working on it tonight.

If nothing else this is all but official confirmation that there will be an official CM9 for the AT&T Note (albeit this was always likely) but it might also (but probably doesn't) hint that Cyanogen himself might help maintain it. (I bought my G2 for the specific reason that it was his daily driver at the time)
Edit: Looks like I was treed by 1 minute on this one

This was announced months ago on the cyanogenmod blog.
Order of operations (in true geek form, the pun was intended):
1) Exynos based systems would come first.
2) Next would be MSM86xx based systems...hence the skyrocket and our Note.
Old news is no news.
Thanks for the update, it's much appreciated to see that we're nearing a release. I'll be refreshing get.cm twice as hard now.

Regardless of the reason, I'll bet the first taker $20, it won't appear on cm nightly network for download, until Samsung has the i717 ICS kernel for download.

Awful how? I have tried two ICS roms and they bludgeoned GingerBread to death.
Performance is absolutely awful. I have been ready to return this thing a few times but I am trying to hold out until the kernel source is released to see if we can get any bump in performance. Scrolling is awful, period, on every rom I have tried. I am really hoping this isnt a snapdragon S3 issue, as were ****ed if so. Then the constant redraws, lag, app hangs, etc just make me want to switch back to WP7.
Have you tried the Unofficial rom? It is fast and clean and super stable.
It sounds to me like you have a bad Note. I had one and exchanged it. It took forever for screen transitions and the SPen was super laggy which made me originally wonder what Samsung was thinking. Until I went in for a different issue (the backlight bleed on the white notes) to swap it out with a black one.
Even the Hybrid is very fluid with all of its customizations.
yeah I ran TPC, unofficial ICS, and now dagr8s hybrid at 213 dpi. Tablet mode is awesome, but useless with all the lag. I have 3 home screens and maybe 7 widgets, and its painful to use at times. My Sensation 4g SMOKES this thing.

This is just one bad experiance.......the ics roms out right now are GOOD and smooth and fast. scrolling on my note is very smooth. you may have a bad note, or are just setting it up wrong. everyone has little tweaks they do that they think help the smoothness. so in the end what im trying to say it IS NOT THE ROMS......

It really shouldnt take them very long. google did a great job with jellybean. making it extremely compatible with all kinds of hardware. for ics we had to pull ~50 commits to frameworks from qcom to get display working. on jellybean...zero. it just works. no hacks required. google really outdid themselves this time. (also cudos to caf for releasing the display drivers same day!!) just took me 3 days to realize that yea they do work lol.
So in theory it shouldnt be too hard to get jellybean up and running on devices that have aosp 4.0. Correct?

Could be because I think that sense 3.6 is garbage and 40 is way better lighter and more responsive or at lest by me using it it seemed like that. But if they do decide to do that I thing they should bring sense 4.0 to all capable devices
