[Q] {question} launchers and root - Motorola Photon 4G

Hi guys, I hope I am posting this correctly if not MODS can move or delete
I just got a mopho and installed launcher pro all is good
i was wondering if you can toggle between the "not blur" and launcher pro???
my nexus would ask which home page to launch if i did not select a default...
also another question I cant find a definite yes or no on
if i root will i lose 4g??? i really dont care about a locked bootloader just want root for the obvious reasons
thanks for all responses
TiNy

You need to download an application from the market called "moto home fix" to get the prompt to select a launcher.
And you will not lose 4G if you root. I know from experience.
Sent from my MoPho using the XDA Premium app

You can also get Home Switcher from the market and just move between them whenever.

You loose 4G with unlocking the bootloader, Root will keep your GGGG just fine

WOW you guys are awesome cant wait to get home and play mad scientist
thanks to all

Noob, help needed please.

hi, i just got my archos 70 today and i've read the threads around this forum and figured out that i cant remove apps(bloatware) that are in system/app because they are protected etc. i also figured out that the only way to have freedom with this device was through the custom rom in this forum but only installed through SDE. The only questions i've got are, is there any way to boot straight into SDE mode or straight into the custom rom rather than pressing power and -vol. 2 can i remove the bloatware through android commander or something similar. I'm just looking for something to remove these apps or have a clean rom because i seem to have dead links such as the manual, online registration etc
Do you mind if you loose your warranty?
Go through this thread, I think it will answer most of your questions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978492
thanks for your reply.no i don't mind about the warranty.i've read the thread but i didn't notice anywhere written about removing the apps or booting straight to urukdroid rom. root explorer doesn't remove any apps even titanium backup.
Are you REALLY sure that removing a few small apps is worth voiding your warranty??? Seriously?
You might want to think of other good reasons to root your device beyond that. Just a suggestion.

it doesn't have a warranty because the person that gave it to me bought it from someone and i couldn't register it because it was already registered with someone.i emailed archos and they said they couldn't do anything. but the useless apps really bug me and the fact that i've downloaded launcher pro and everytime i press home button it keeps asking which launcher i want to use.

Click the checkbox that says "always perform this action" and select Launcher Pro. Then it won't keep asking which launcher to use.

[Q] Disabling voice talk

I find the Voice Talk on my Samsung Galaxy S2 very annoying. It seems to load up even when I click the middle button once ...sometimes difficult to start it when I click the button twice...
Is there anyways, to disable to middle button to run the voice talk app... I hardly use it anyways.... of cos without rooting the phone.
Thanks

Me too, i'm trying to disable in setting but nothing can stop it. I know it can't stop if root but i don't want
Sorry Peeps, this has been asked in a similar thread a couple days ago

Any chance of doing this without having to edit "\android\internal\policy\impl\PhoneWindowManage" or use a theme?
Finally rooted my GalaxyS2 via DarkyROM HD ...and deleted the annoying Vlingo app along with other apps too. Brilliant.

Using XDA Premium over Resurrection Remix ICS, the Best Rom ever made
Anyone running ICS can easily remove voice talk (Vlingo) by installing go launcher from the market, go to apps drawer ,long press on voice talk, hit delete, Vlingo gone....uninstall go launcher..done! No rooting required.

Brilliant! I hate this app. I always seemed to double press Home by accident. I use Go Launcher anyway, and somehow didn't think to try uninstalling Voice Talk
yeah!

Stupid question, so don't get mad!?

Hey, I am retiring my note (went to Sprint and am rocking a rooted SGSIII now) and need a full tablet rom with all phone functions diabled. Reason being as I am gonna use it as an expensive media tablet for my 3 year old. Yeah, I know.
Anyhow, anyone out there with a rom that can accomplish this or anyone out there wanna back me a Jellybean (I love Butter, it goes good on almost anything) or ICS tablet rom for this beast? I would be much appreciative for such an endevor on your port (hehehehe I said port, not part)
George
Why not just take the sim out then you can't use any phone functions internet will still work with WiFi if you choose

use a launcher like apex that will let you hide apps then hide phone, mms and anything else you dont want your child messing with. you can also lock homescreen so cant change anything but you can still get access if need. cm roms will also let you disable menu key so they cant get into settings. you would just have to unlock desktop and add shortcut to get back to settings and renable when need to.

Agreed ....
At least this way you will still have wifi ...
And if you really want to get creative ...
Remove the junk you don't want from the rom ...
But it's "highly " unlikely that a dev will port a non functional tablet rom to this device, since we already have everything we need to run tablet mode on the note already ...g
Put it in Airplane mode and remove the sim card.

[Q] Why do you want root

Just curious what are other people's reasons for wanting root?
For me it's for wifi tether, ad free, use my backup pro to get some rooted features, get headphone icon to go away when plugged in and see some of the other features that big red took out. Pretty simple dude.
Pretty much for all the same reasons why everyone roots on all android platform phones... I'm assuming
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
I want root for command line access to system files, titanium backup, blocking ads, and for making the led notifcations stay on when the screen is on.
imagine your computer was locked down, you couldn't modify your os, if you wanted a certain feature you had to go buy a different computer that had that feature... how many computers would you need in order to get all of the features you wanted? or you could 'root' it and have just one computer but with all of the things you wanted on it... and remove the things you didn't want.
same concept, but on a phone instead of a desktop.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
to get rid of ads, debloat, flash a custom recovery, and flash roms...pretty much the whole reason xda exists.
I know the point of root. Think you missed the point. I asked why do YOU want root. Just seeing other people's similarities and differences

You can just disable the headphones icon. just disable its page buddy. It's under settings--->display----->page buddy---->uncheck earphones page.

But I kind of like the Page buddy. .... I'd like to keep it but get rid of that icon in the notification bar. With the sgs3 it was easy just had to freeze one thing
I got this phone for them multi-window and you can only multi-window a few apps as of right now.

I think you can do this without root.
I hate the Ongoing WiFi notification and I want to kill it when I have root. Plus ad blocking, native tethering, over clocks, adding my own apps to Multi-Window, turning off the stupid Install mode when I connect it to computer over USB, getting S-Planner back, etc.
I want to get the missing apps back for multiview, I want infinite scrolling on the home screen without having to use a different launcher, I want to take advantage of the extra controls with Tasker and Secure Settings, titanium backup, removing bloat ware, the usual
TB, de-bloat, have more apps compatible with multiwindow, directory bind for moving game data to ext card, get rid of the clutter on the status/notification bar, 180 rotation, change the dpi/tablet mode, change kernels...and just to feed my ROM flash addiction!

Well guys, we got root. So who's going to make us all these mods we want?
To get rid of junk and adware.
cause it is my damn phone
Sent via quantum entanglement or possibly my Note 2...for sure one of those.
I just like customizing my phone to do what I need it to do... it just turned into a hobby damn og droid started this expensive addiction

sometimes those awesome apk oni can install in rooted device.. :fingers-crossed:
Do we have a list of deletable apps yet?

Is it working for others?
Thanks
Thanks so much for the great video - really appreciate. I'm just stuck at knowing what software to use to access the fire with that black screen/green text. Can you let me know. Thanks! :good:

Thank you so much. All I need to do now is work out how to get read my Kindle book launch on the Go Launcher. I think that can only be done on the stock launcher?
Don't suppose anyone has any success with the Kindle Reading App on another launcher?
Thanks again - really appreciate it.

One last question re. Go Launcher on the Fire. Does anyone know how to add widgets to it. When I click Add and select system widgets, select the widget and then try and add it, it just keeps going to the system settings screen. Is there any option i've missed that says allow widgets?
Thanks again for the help - appreciate it.

I think it needs to be rooted for this unfortunately.
Can I just check your Amazon appstore is working OK? I bought an app from the Amazon website but when I go to the appstore to install it, its not working right. I can't access any of my purchased apps - whenever I select library either nothing happens or it goes back to the home screen

The library button is connected to Amazon's launcher so it will not work. But installing apps work fine for me

Hi
It looks like they are all working apart from the paid one. I will try and transfer it via the Amazon website to pc via usb. Thanks
Seems to be working now, Thanks
Just to update. It only seems to deliver free apps. I purchased an app and have sent to the kindle a few times but it's not showing

funny. I might look at it some tomorrow. I could make a hacked version of the common amazon app store. That could work.

Thanks - I would really appreciate that! Thanks again
I could not get the hacked appstore app working without it crashing unfortunately. I may look more later tho

Great. Thanks!
I tired this with Nova from Windows. After much fighting to get it to recognise the device as an ADB interface, I dropped into the shell and ran the command as suggested. It returned
Code:
Package amazon.kindle.otter new blocked state: true
but it still prompts for the launcher choice. Tried rebooting the Fire but no change.
EDIT: Idiot-mode engaged. I forgot the com.
Thanks again, and especially for the Google Apps hack.
